Nathan Darrow was pissed off. More than that. He was absolutely livid. The kicker was that if someone asked him why he was so wrathful he would never be able to tell them. How could he explain it, if even he didn't quite understand what was going on here?

His father, who didn't know he had a son, was in a coma that, Nathan was now convinced in some kind of self preservation effort, he would never wake up from. So what? So the man who abandoned them, kind of, would never know he impregnated some hooker seventeen years ago and then moved away with no way of finding him. So the man would never see the boy with hair and expressions so much like him, mannerisms that were somehow similar, or that the boy himself would never know what it was like to have a father.

It wasn't like he wasn't used to it by now. He hadn't had a father, and barely had a mother, all his life. And he turned out just fine.

Lifting up his paintball gun, he lowered his protective goggles, the thick kind that seemed better suited for a skiier on a mountain slope, he fired a long line of red across the front of a store. He shot out a window, too, just for kicks. No one seemed to be around, which wasn't anything new. Since coming to this city the place had been eerily calm. Save for cops and people that looked like they were out of a SWAT movie.

Nate just avoided them.

It was deep night, and he wasn't worried. A flashlight mounted to his paintball gun, the shots relatively quiet, he was all confidence, all the time. He fired another blast of shots, his backpack full of various colored pellets so he could reload. What better way to vent some pent up, teenage aggression then vandalizing the homes and businesses of innocent and complete strangers?

To say Scorpio was upset was an understatement. She hadn't gotten over getting her memories back, at least not entirely; she was still picking up bits and pieces of her life. Lives, she corrected herself mentally as she roamed the mostly deserted city.

Not only that, but several of the people she was connected to, bonded in ways she hadn't quite even begun to understand, were gone. She hadn't really spent time with them; not really. Well, no, that was a lie. She'd trained with them, and she'd known them, but she hadn't really spent time with them outside of that. She hadn't gotten to really get to know them and yet she'd felt their loss as deeply as if they'd been her siblings. Maybe they were, in a way. It was hard to describe, the general sense of loss that had filled her when she'd gotten the news. Devastation didn't even come close.

It had felt like a tiny piece of her her heart had fallen and shattered - a tiny piece she hadn't even known was there. And with each new death, a slightly bigger piece of her heart was chipped away and shattered. She'd cried until she'd had no more tears, and when the tears had refused to come, she'd simply sat and tried to make sense of it all.

There was sadly, no sense to be made of the situation, and so, out of need to do something familiar, she'd gone out to patrol. The robotic movements... the familiar rooftops had brought her solace. She stuck with what she knew, her eyes scanning the streets for movement as she moved from rooftop to rooftop. A large shadowy figure ran beside her, red eyes glowing in the dark, it's head moving from right to left as it attempted to detect something, anything that might be wrong.

However, after a good few minutes of patrol, it wasn't the hound that spotted something, but Scorpio herself. It was not a youma, and it was most certainly not a negaverse lieutenant, so she'd been more or less ready to resume her scan of the area when the boy lifted what looked like a paint gun from the near distance.

It wasn't really her job to interfere in this, was it? Something in the back of Scorpio's mind told her that this was just as important, and though the girl didn't particularly look like she wanted to deal with this... she dropped from the rooftop, landing gracefully on the ground just a few meters away from the boy, "I will have to ask you stop that," she said, then paused, "Please," as she said that, the large shadowy dog followed it's master and landed beside her, it's head raising up to sniff the air viciously.

Nathan looked up when he heard someone coming. Or rather, when he heard someone speak to him. He hadn't heard anyone approach, now that he thought about it. That was bad, because he was supposed to be paying attention so he could run from the cops, and normally he was pretty aware... or maybe all the cops he had run into had just been heavy footed? Either way, the voice surprised him.

He had no idea she hadn't approached, so much as dropped from the sky.

"You will, huh?" he said, turning to her but not putting his gun down. He had it aimed at her now, in fact, and he adjusted it in her sight to aim at her specifically. He looked up from the gun, however, when some kind of... black... demon? landed beside the girl, who was dressed strangely anyway.

Nathan stared in silence for a moment, then lifted his gun and fired at the dog.

"Jesus there's a monster behind you!" He yelped, struck suddenly by an impulse very much like his father might experience: he wanted to save her, in case the demon was, in fact, an evil thing from hell. Of course, it wasn't attacking her, but that was just a detail. "Get out of there!"

Slow.

She was slow. And Aries would have likely scowled at her and scolded for having slow reflexes, even in a situation such as this; to her shame, before she could do much of anything, the boy fired his gun at the shadowy figure beside her. Had that been a real gun, and had that have been aimed at her... well, things would have gotten a lot nastier than this.

As it was though, the paint shot straight past the dog; or rather, it went right through it, almost as if the creature weren't there. In fact, it didn't even turn to acknowledge Nathan. It kept it's head in held high, nostrils flaring and eyes fixed on some distant point. It looked like it was trying to find something or other, but was not catching the scent it was looking for.

The sound of the gun had kicked Scorpio into action, and she blinked out of whatever half baked daze she'd been in, mentally kicking herself before moving forward as fast as she could. She tried to take cold of the barrel of the gun, "Wait, wait! No, no, it's okay, really. It's not going to hurt you. Or me. It can't hurt anyone," she usually didn't like to say that; mostly because the dog's appearance usually offered a distraction. She often time used the openings it created with it's presence to attack, since her enemies were not always sure it wasn't capable of dealing damage, "Really," she said again, this time softer, "It's okay," and she didn't know if she was telling this to the boy, or herself.

Nathan looked baffled when the pellet went straight through the dog, and he looked at the girl in bafflement. She was holding on to his gun! And telling him... it was okay? That thing couldn't hurt anyone? Maybe not, since Nathan hadn't been able to hit it with the paint ball, but even so, who had a giant, evil looking shadow thing padding around with them?

He glared at her, tugging his paintball gun away from her. It was his most precious possession, and he could not bear it in any kind of danger. If she was planning on taking it from him, he wasn't going to let her.

"What the ******** is that, man?" he asked, looking at her in shock. His heart felt like it was in his throat, but he swallowed it down. He wasn't supposed to get this scared, about anything, and he tried to think that it was just a thrill, just a ride, something crazy. He'd been through worse, right? And with all the weird stuff going on in the city as of late this was probably... pretty tame by comparison.

Weren't there reports of monsters? Was she making them? Controlling them? She said it was okay, but why would she have that thing with her?

He couldn't stop wondering.

"Who the hell are you? You're no cop, so what? You're into protecting innocent buildings with your giant shadow dog?" He looked skeptical but, again, it wouldn't be the strangest thing he had heard recently.

In a tug-o-war, Scorpio would have likely won, given the fact she actually boasted supernatural strength, but... she didn't really want to take the thing away from him. She honestly just wanted him to stop aiming it at her and Fluffy. And no, she was not going to tell Aries she'd named it - in her defense, it was really hard to just call it 'my attack' or 'the hound'... Scorpio had felt it needed a name, even if it wasn't sentient at all.

When the boy tugged in attempt to release the gun from her grip, she let go of it, her head turning just a bit, so that she could see the shadowy being out the corner of her peripheral vision, while still keeping most of her attention on the boy, "That... is complicated to explain," she said, her other hand, which carried a magnifying glass, lifting up to scratch her head slightly. All in all, the girl did pretty much look like she'd popped out of a novel, what with her attire and the dog that followed her around.

"I... think I am going to tackle your questions one by one," she told him, "I am Soldier Scorpio," and she was so well aware how weird that sounded to anyone that didn't know what that meant, really, "I am not a cop... and no, technically I protect the people. The dog just helps me find the... 'bad guys'," the dog in question moved it's head again, apparently still searching, "It's gotten no scents today. I just sort of saw you while I was up there," she motioned to the building she'd drop from, "It's not safe in this place after dark and... I was curious as to what you were doing," upon a closer look, it looked like he might be either venting his frustration or simply trashing the place because he wanted to.

After a moment, the girl made a movement with her hand, and the dog dissolved into nothing, gone and out of sight, as if it'd never been there at all, "And you are?" a pause, "You know, I thought it was rude to ask for other people's names before offering your own."

Nate was surprised when she let go of the gun, finding that she was holding it a lot tighter than he had realized, and without her gripping it he suddenly stumbled backwards. He caught himself by putting his foot back, and he tried to look tough after he recovered his footing. Glaring at her, he waited for this complicated explanation of hers, not planning on going anywhere until he got it.

He kept the gun level, like he would use it on her if she made him. Because it could help him, really. Paint pellets. Scary. Her explanation made him drop his fear and get fairly insulted.

"Your shadow dog doesn't think I'm a bad guy? So people breaking into shops... they're not the kind of 'bad guys' you look for to stop? You're one of those terrorists in the paper, then? My dad's got newspaper clippings about you guys all over his apartment." It was true, Tony did, but he had been researching the good they had been doing, because he knew they were not terrorists of any kind. He dearly cared for a senshi, Virgo, like she was family. He had no idea, yet, that she had been taken from him while he was unconscious.

Nate didn't know any of that, though, only meeting Elke once.

When the dog vanished Nathan lifted his gun, thinking she was attacking him, or doing something weird. But it just disappeared, and he relaxed. Slightly. That was kind of cool. She was kind of cool. He wanted to see what else she could do.

"Oh. Uh," he was caught off guard, and he looked her over with his dark eyes skeptically. If he was going to get her to tell him more, or show him more, of what she could do he would have to be nice if she demanded it. "I'm Nathan. Nate. So, you have like, magic powers and s**t? Can you like, leap over a building in a single bound? Run faster than a speeding bullet?"

He lifted his gun again, aiming it at her.

"Could you dodge this if I fired it?"

"You... ramble a lot," it wasn't mean as an insult - it was just that in her opinion, the boy talked a lot. Not only that, but he tended to rush questions together, and it was making Scorpio think that he was much more nervous than he was trying to let on, "But no, you're not the type of Bad Guy it looks for. I was going to say that you're technically not a Bad Guy, from the start, but something was telling me you were going to be offended, so I didn't," the way she tilted her head to one side and regarded him seemed to voice that she was mildly amused by the fact he'd gotten offended regardless of what she hadn't said.

"What? Terrorist?" it was her turn to look offended, "I'm not a terrorist!" well, before, nothing had worked her up, but that claim sure did; the girl frowned and placed a hand on her hip. She would like to know whom had started that rumor so she could file a formal complaint!

And she was looking at him almost as curiously as he was looking back at her, "I uh.... no, not really. That's my power," the dog she meant - the rest of her powers were mostly physical, and even those needed training. Granted, Aries had made sure they all kept as fit as they possibly could, but it was still remarkably hard to train a body that wasn't all that used to combat, even if her mind apparently was. Scorpio sometimes felt like her mind and body refused to cooperate, "You can't frankly expect me to leap over a building. I'm not superman. And that would be no, to the bullet thing," her eyes went to the gun and then up to him again, giving him a look that practically shouted 'You can not be serious!'.

Against all her better senses and logical reasoning, the girl tilted her head and made a mild face, "I can try. But I would rather not," she was not in the moooooood... and yet she wasn't leaving. Because at the same time, this was distracting and she really did not wish to go home, back to her room, where she was sure the dark thoughts would find her with ease.

He was a distraction at least.

Nate flushed angrily when she told him he rambled. How rude! At least he had an excuse to be rude: he was a punk kid vandalizing a store. She acted so proper and polite, who was she to make fun of him?! Or maybe he was over reacting and she had just been pointing it out to him. Either way, he didn't like it, and he thought she should be a bit nicer to him.

Even if he wasn't being nice to her. That's just how it went.

"Well, maybe I'm not the bad guy you're looking for, but I'm still... I can still be bad!" He felt silly just saying it, and he hated feeling silly. He gripped his paintgun tighter, frowning bitterly. Almost petulantly. He was used to being the cool kid on the block, the one no one messed with: he didn't have his rep here, so no one treated him like he ought to be treated. He didn't like that, either.

"That's not a very impressive power, even if it looks cool," he said, re-aiming at her. He was sure she could dodge it. He did back up a few steps for her, though, without really thinking about it. That was kind of nice? It gave her more room to dodge. A couple steps worth, anyway, "you just appeared out of no where earlier: you've gotta have some skills."

She said she could try, so he took that as a yes even though she said she would rather not. That wasn't good enough to deter him, so he fired, eager to see if she could get out of the way of the paint pellet in time. If she could, he would totally have to get her to show him some of the other things she could do.
PostPosted: Fri Jun 11, 2010 8:30 pm

In Scorpio's defense... she didn't know she was being rude. She had this awful tendency to stick her foot in her mouth; she still did not understand why people did not enjoy hearing about the mating rituals her scorpions were undergoing while eating dinner. She thought it was fascinating!

His words made her frown, but it wasn't a scowl. In fact, for just a split second, the girl could have looked almost sad, "Why do you want to be bad?" she didn't think that was particularly productive in any sort of way. She also did not know why he felt the need to be 'bad' by paint balling the walls of that store, but she was willing to let it pass on the account that teenagers had it rough.

The gun was being aimed at her now, and Scorpio's eyes were trained on it as she listened to his words; she was expecting it to fire any moment now, and while the paint would not really hurt her, she didn't really want to get the uniform dirty. Mostly because she wasn't sure how that worked - would it regenerate itself once she powered down and back up again? Ehhh... she'd torn it up a couple of times fighting Youma, and it seemed to regenerate just fine, but she wasn't quite sure how paint stains worked in the grand scheme of things.

"No, but it is useful. It lets me track down my enemies and catch them. They can run, but they can't hide," a pause, "And no, not from nowhere. That's sort of physically impossible. I dropped from the building," no sooner did she stop talking, that the boy fired the gun, and Scorpio dodged to the left, mostly on reflex; her mind usually tended to work ahead of her in battles (even if this wasn't a battle). It knew what to do and had issued the order before she had time to really consciously process it.

Her dodge had consisted of her rolling to the side, and she was now looking up at him from a partially kneeling position, her gaze still calmly languid, "Quid pro quo then," she told him, "Why do you want to be bad?"

"That was awesome," Nate informed her, blinking. Had he just seen that right? She dodged a paintball shot, which were pretty damn fast. He knew he could never do it. Most people just had time to shrug their shoulders up in an effort to deflect some of the pain before they were hit in the stomach anyway. She was clear out of the way, in a whole different position.

Awesome.

"I don't want to be bad," he said vaguely, shaking his head. He lowered his gun, not pointing it at her anymore. "I just know I'm not being good. Like. I know I'm breaking rules, which would make other people see me as bad. I'm not doing it because it makes me bad, though." He was babbling again, but she had asked. And it was a complicated answer. He shook his head.

"Nevermind... wait, you jumped from the roof? Dude!" He looked up, surprised at it. She could drop down from that high, silently? Now that he wanted to do. A lot. "You gotta show me how to do that. Can you jump far? I want to see! You wanna go up there and jump some buildings?" He was already headed to the trashcan against the store, so he could climb up to the side pipe and get up on the roof. He had his gun over his back on a strand, and his goggles pushed up onto his head.

"Come on!"
PostPosted: Sat Jun 12, 2010 8:56 am

She kept her position, her body tense, still prepared for battle, for moving, for dodging; it was an automatic response for the most part. It wasn't until he lowered the gun that the girl relaxed back down entirely, finally slowly pushing herself up too her feet. In all honesty, she'd been lucky - she still had trouble turning her mind's orders into movements. She felt her body was clumsier than it had any right to be... and quite honestly the heels were of no help. She'd have liked many people try to do the things she did in those shoes without falling over at least a couple hundred times.

Brushing her skirt off, she focused her attention back on him, for some reason mildly embarrassed at his compliment. Not knowing how to answer it, she simply offered him an awkward smile. Wow, smiling. She'd been forgetting to do that, now a days. There were just so few things to smile about lately... that is she'd just stopped almost altogether. She found the simple action to be rather therapeutic.

"I think that's more naughty than bad," she said, and then flinched a bit, apologetic for her choice of words, offering him an awkward look - it was clear the girl wasn't all that good at filtering her thoughts before turning them to words. As far as she was concerned though, 'bad' was when someone yanked a starseed. 'Bad' was when someone killed another human being... it was when someone intentionally harmed another physically or mentally just for the hell of it and without any real reason.

This though? Well... this was naughty.

And she couldn't quite blame him for not following rules - she herself was breaking quite a few just by patrolling. Her parents thoughts she was safely in her room, studying or sleeping. Instead, she was out here. Her eyes flew up to the rooftop she'd jumped off from, and she tilted her head at him; It was just a two story building. Not that tall, by her standards, but she wasn't going to tell him that, "I really don't think that's a good idea," despite her words she moved to follow him, clasping her hands behind her back to watch him climb. After a few seconds though, she turned to look at the adjacent building; it had a fire escape stairway, and she thought that was the logical answer.

So thus, without making a sound, the Zodiac walked over to it and climbed her way up to the top, making the leap between buildings. If Nate had turned around, he'd have found her gone; just like the dog, maybe a mirage? Had she even been there at all or had she been an illusion?

But no, her head suddenly poked to peer over the side of the building he was climbing and she smiled at him, "You do it the hard way," she extended a hand and offered it to him.

Nathan glared at her, gripping the side rail of the building, when she called him naughty. He hadn't been called naughty since he was a baby, when people were condescending to him. But since she had just dodged that pellet so well he couldn't complain about her. She was awesome.

But he would only be patient for so long. If she continued to tease him, even accidentally, he would have to do something to get his pride back up.

He looked back at her to say something, but she was gone. Blinking, he scrambled up the rest of the way, hauling himself onto the roof. After a bit of a struggle, he slipped down again, having to leap back at the roof and try and scramble up one more time. He thought she had abandoned him, but then he saw her poke up from the roof, which nearly sent him falling.

"Hey!"

He sneered, half amused that she could get up so easily, half annoyed that she was doing better than him. He would show her! He didn't take her hand, hauling himself up and, with a profound effort, getting over the edge and onto the roof. He looked at her, dusting himself off proudly.

"Maybe I just don't like taking the easy way out," he said, a bit puffed. He looked around, then ran to one side of the building and looked over. It looked like a jump they could make, to another fire escape, and then climb up onto a higher roof.

He turned and grinned at her.

"Coming?" He asked, before taking a leap at the fire escape. He landed well enough, running up the metal ladders until he was on the roof, hoping to get there first.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 12, 2010 9:45 am

She was sorry! Really! She just couldn't help it; it was very hard for her to not say exactly what was going through her mind, and it often times got her into trouble. To her credit though, she was trying, he had to give her that.

Her smile widened just a notch when she surprised him. Granted, it'd almost sent him falling, but then again... she'd been prepared for that, and would have instantly shot her hand out to grab him had that happened. His sneer was met with a light shrug of her shoulders, retracting her hand back when he didn't take it, "If you say so," she personally thought it was cute, if not slightly endearing that he was trying so very hard.

In all honesty, Scorpio almost felt like she was cheating at this point. He did not boast enhanced... well, everything, and yet there he was, making a huge deal out of this. The past few months had made her feel like she'd aged several years on the spot, and strangely enough, she now felt like a child. What she was doing right now was not out of necessity, there were no responsibilities attached, and just that made her feel slightly refreshed. Huh, color her surprised.

She watched as he leapt the distance and tilted her head once more; for a normal civilian, he wasn't half bad. He wasn't half bad at all. Which was probably a bad thing, since she figured he used his abilities in sort of uhhh... counter productive ways, "Coming," and with that word, she too jumped. This time though, she wasn't as lucky, and she remembered instantly why she much rather jump from roof to roof, or from fire escape to roof. Never from roof to fire escape. You see, fire escaped tended to be built out of metal criss cross squares, and that made for really unstable landing ground when you were wearing high heels.

Scorpio wanted to know whom had been the genius that had designed these outfit. She was sure it'd been male, and that he had never tried to fight, run, or otherwise move around actively in one of these.

As it was though, when she landed on the fire escape, her heel got caught and the Zodiac lost her balance; that coupled with the fact she wasn't exactly the most elegant of people on her feet (yes, even despite her senshi abilities) had her slowly falling backwards, and she wasn't quite sure she was going to be able to reach the metal ladder to stabilize herself. She didn't scream, but instead made a surprised noise as he hand tried (and failed) to grab the ladder.

Nathan heard a heavy clang behind and below him, and he looked back down the fire escape, blinking. Had she fallen? Oh! She was in the process of it. He ran back down, thankfully not too much higher above her, and reached to catch her hand so she didn't tumble off. He understood that she had skills beyond him, but he still didn't want her to fall.

"Whoa!"

He managed to catch her before she fell back, thankful that she had been reaching for the ladder that he was now on. He sighed, relieved, and tugged her forward. He looked down to see what had happened and noticed her shoes. That was almost insulting. She could run around, leaping from roofs and surprising kids like him... in heels?

That just wasn't fair. Maybe he should have let her fall, to prove a point about responsible shoe wear, and not being awesome in things Nathan didn't understand how to walk in. He didn't let go of her, though, actually just hanging on to her hand absently.

"You okay? Didn't go hurting your dainty ankles in those fancy shoes? Boy, it's a good thing you put looks over convenience, or jumping roofs might be a nasty business." He grinned at her sharply, teasing, but having fun.
