Some words in Japanese that were borrowed from English and slightly modified so it's easier for the Japanese to speak them. There's a loooot more, those are only some that came into my mind. Actually, for a lot, and I mean A LOT of words the japanese also have they have English borrowed words, but they don't always use them.

ガラス - garasu - glass (also can refer to pane)
テーブル - teeburu - table
レストラン - resutoran - restaurant
トイレ - toire - toilet
ケーキ - keeki - cake
サラダ - sarada - salad
ジュース - juusu - juice
コーヒー - koohii - coffee
ビール - biiru - beer
チケット - chiketto - ticket
デパート - depaato - department store
コンビニ - konbini - convienient store
デート - deeto - date
パソコン - pasokon - personal computer
レンタカー - rentakaa - rent a car
エアコン - eakon - air conditioner
パスポート - pasupooto - passport
ラジオ - rajio - radio
テレビ - terebi - TV
リモコン - rimokon - remote control
バッテリー - batterii - battery
シャンプー - shanpuu - shampoo
アパート - apaato - apartment

The reason these words were adopted was because these objects where introduced tot them by europian explorers in the age exploration.

Just as a quick note, the Japanese borrow words from almost every country and language. Like Sohei said above, they were adopted because the Japanese just didn't/don't have a word for it. A few examples of non-English borrowed words are:

パン - the Portuguese word for bread. When the Portuguese came to Japan they introduced bread and therefore they use the Portuguese word, pan.
アルバイト - The German word for part-time job. This is a cultural phenomenon that the Japanese just didn't have before the Germans came because in the Japanese way, one will devote themselves to one line of work for all their life.
