Anjali and Jitokeza had agreed to meet the following morning. She was a little excited, if only because it was something to do, and she felt a little...not important, but a little special. As friendly as she liked to be, she had never quite done something like this before. She wanted to chalk it up to the Jini-misemi being the first pride she had decided to join. The idea of spirits in all things, and 'spirit talkers' was intriguing. The fact that the swamps themselves were so fun to explore (if a little muddy) added on top of that.
So she waited in a sort-of designated area, knowing that her coat would be the easiest way to see her. She didn't stick out as much as some of the lions (and cubs!), but was unique in her own right.

It might have been a problem, once upon a time, getting up so early but now Jitokeza was a happy early riser. It was hard to sleep through the harassment of two cubs trying to get you up, so he had adjusted his sleeping patterns. He was up with the sun and then on his way to where he and Anjali had agreed to meet up for the morning. He could already hear some birds around the swamp, he was sure their bird-watching trip would be successful this time. Once he was close to the meeting spot, he could see Anjali waiting there for him. It was good he didn't have to wait but now he had to wonder how long she'd been waiting. "Good morning," he called, his pace slowing as he approached, "You're up early, I hope you haven't been waiting long!"

She turned her head a bit at hearing the greeting, pleased to see Jitokeza heading her way. "Hello!" she said in reply, her tail swishing behind her happily. She had been a little too excited about this, but she wouldn't admit it.
"No, I pretty much just got here myself," she reassured him. "I'm not always up this early, but I couldn't help myself. Another little adventure. Ready to go when you are!" She smiled at him, feeling a little cubbish, but who cared? This was fun.

"Alright," he said, not sure if she was being honest but if she wasn't she was being nice about it anyway so, all was well. It was a lovely morning, "You can already hear some birds out so there should be plenty around the little frog pond." And while everybody else slept, there wouldn't be anything to disturb the birds- or the frogs, they might even see more of those!
Optimistic, Jitokeza started walking along the path towards the frogs and the birds.

Anjali followed him, or stuck next to his side. She thought it would be rude to follow him, but she kept herself just a pace behind in case he paused or turned suddenly. She had a decent idea of where they were going, since she had been guided to and from the frog-filled sloppy pond. Hopefully she wouldn't slip again, that was never fun.
"Should we stay quiet around the birds?" she asked him, not sure if they would easily be spooked by voices or not. Sometimes birds were fearless, and others seemed to be scared of their own shadow. Much like any other species, but it was easier to notice brids, with the squawking and sometimes colourful feathers that just demanded attention.

He didn't mind that she stayed a step behind him but he did feel a little awkward. Then again, until she got used to finding her way around, it was probably more comfortable for her. As long as she stayed cheerful, he would be OK with that. It was nice doing something with just one other lion, not that he didn't like Baridi or her family, there were just a whole lot of them.
"Quiet is probably the safest way to go," he said thoughtfully, "If we want to hear the singing, anyway. We might find someone chatty, though, too. You never know."

"Singing?" He probably had mentioned that yesterday, but it hadn't really connected. She was more excited about having someone to hang out with, instead on inserting herself in other groups. It usually worked, but wasn't the best way to make friends. She was happy that her bold attempt to speak to him had turned out so well.
She smiled at him, glancing up at him. "I think either would be wonderful." These little adventures were fun, on top of being a great way to find out more about her new home. Knowing the dangers as well as the joys. "Because this is a lot of fun," she added on, "as well as a way of getting used to being a little dirty all the time."

"Quiet's probably best to start for either, but they're probably used to lions wandering by," he thought aloud, not entirely sure what the best way to go would be. Certainly they shouldn't run through like something was going on. They weren't being very loud anyway. Her comment about having fun made him smile.
"The only downside of going out in the morning is it hasn't warmed up much yet," he commented when she mentioned the dirt. The damp, squishy earth was also colder now that it was just starting a new day. But if you could handle it while it was cold, you were really all set.

Anjali nodded at his first comment, but she was distracted by his second one. She had to pause for a moment, lifting up a paw to examine it. Almost as if it was possible to see how cold it was. Hmmm..
"True," she heartily agreed. "It's bearable at the moment, but hopefully we won't have to get much more wet when we hit the little lake." That would be a lot more wet, and keep her a little cold. She'd manage! She really wanted to see these birds, she was getting more curious as they got closer.

Jitokeza looked up to the sky, considering how warm it might get before they got the lake but it wasn't looking hopeful. This would be cold and squishy but it wouldn't be warm until much later, it was the price they paid for getting up so early in the morning.
"Hopefully they're out," he said brightly, they sang most before they had chicks but then the chicks made a whole bunch of other noises so.. unless they'd moved, they should find something interesting.

Anjali nodded, hoping so too. She didn't think this was a waste of a trip, however. Not at all. Still, it would be an added bonus to actually see what they had come out here to see.
"I think I might hear something...." she said, her voice dropping as she strained to hear better. After a moment, it was apparent that there were a couple frogs still croaking, though they were faint. Probably finishing up their "song" before retiring for the day. "Orrr, not," she laughed.

Stopping and standing still, he listened for what Anjali heard, smiling at the sound of the frogs. It was a sure sign they were out quite early but it wasn't that bad a sound, either.
"Frogs, but we're getting closer, we should start hearing the birds," he said brightly, and he stepped carefully as the land became squishier as they round near the frog's pond. He decidedly didn't take the way directly beside it, hoping to avoid unnecessary cold. The soft, musical chirps of a small group of songbirds could faintly be heard as they came nearer and nearer their destination.

Anjali's ears swiveled forwards and back, catching all the different sounds in her ears. It was strange, sometimes the frogs and birds would almost be singing together, and then they would be all off. Not done on purpose, surely, but it was an interesting take on their noises.
She was feeling a little apprehensive now, hoping to not ruin any moments, especially with the birds. Jitokeza seemed to reassure her that everything would be fine, but as long as none of them flew away...

Having made this trip with two noisy juveniles before, Jitokeza was confident they wouldn't cause much disruption- so long as they didn't trip or slip or something silly. It happened sometimes but hopefully it wouldn't happen this time.
Through the trees, the frog pond seemed to be quiet and still in the early morning light but the sounds of frogs contradicted the image. The birds became more and more apparent the closer they came, their shadows fluttered through the leafy branches and the songs became louder.
"Hmm."

Anjali was wondering what was taking so long. She wasn't impatient, but it seemed to be taking longer to get there this time. Or was it all in her head? It probably could be, last time she was just amazed to have someone so willing to hang out with her right after meeting them. Most others liked to wait a day or two before meeting up again. She understood, she was a bit of a pistol at times.
She jolted a bit at his hum, glancing up at him with a curious look in her eyes. "Something wrong?" she asked quietly, wondering if maybe they were a bit too late.
