I did this once before thinking I was going to breeze through the game, and I did, but I ran into some serious problems when I reached Ultimica's Castle, since I missed out on all the stat increases that come along with GFs.
What is the highest level you've been early in the game?

It's not too hard when the enemies level up with you.

I cant remember how high, but it got me into trouble. sweatdrop It took me a while to realize why the game is "hard". xp
EDIT: I was crazy enough to raise some of Squall, Zell, and Selphie's stats to 255 with items and devour though. (devouring cactuars for luck is hell)
