 "Mud?"
Aaaahhhh. The big male let out a satisfying groan as he sank into the cooling mud, stretching out his legs and soaking his belly and throat in the substance. It had been a long time since he had seen another wolf, and he pondered on these things as his eyes lazily fluttered and then shut completely.
It was true, Rochir fancied himself a lone wolf, but the truth was that he just hand't found a pack or friend to fit in with completely. His former mate, Ketei, had burned him badly.. literally! The scar over his heard throbbed sometimes when it became cold out, or when rain was fast approaching. Then that laughable female, Elayi, had used him in every way possible. He was happy that he had finally escaped her terrible nature.
But he was alone, and he didn't enjoy it all the time. The longing was stronger in him now for family, something he had really never had. He felt all at once that his time was growing short, and he wasn't sure what to do. "Maybe... head back towards where wolves actually live?" he wondered aloud to himself.
Finally he arose from the mud, thoroughly caked in it now. It was time to go forth and multiply, though he sincerely did hope to find true love before all of that.

The tip of the black and white scarf, somehow kept meticulously clean even after all this time around the neck of the red stained white wolf, billowed lightly in the gentle breeze. The owner of the scarf stared ahead of him, his feet frozen to the ground in horror at what he saw before him.
What stood only a dozen leaps away was a most hideous sight, one that made the lean wolf quiver in disgust and horror.
A wolf...., Leto thought to himself, A wolf covered in...., he shuddered from ears to tailtip, mud....
Already he wished he hadn't left the packlands, but the thought of being around a Kiion so enamored and distracted by mate and pups left him too severely lonely for him to remain. It was a loneliness he didn't understand, really. How could he feel so utterly alone when surrounded by a wonderful pack like Acropolis?
Heph and Dione had tried their hardest to keep him happy, but Kiion had all but forgotten him. Not on purpose, but...still.
Maybe after the pups were more grown, he would return, and recapture his best friend's attentions.
But now? He nearly turned tail and fled, to avoid any contact with the filthy wolf crawling from the mud wallow.

As he left the mudhole, Rochir spotted another wolf standing closer than he usually would have let happen without his knowing. Under normal circumstances he would have noticed, but he hadn't, and that was that.
He sprang forward, lightly for his size, and mentally shook himself. Be nice, it's time for a change. "Hey there stranger, the name's Rochir." he spoke, halting a bit under halfway from his original distance.
He would have come closer, but the white wolf appeared as though he were stained with blood, and while Rochir didn't smell blood, he certainly couldn't be sure if it was the life-flow of another wolf, or just some prey-beast.

"Leto," he murmured with a slight curl of his lip. Not a sign of aggression, because his ears were nearly flat to his skull in anxiety, but a sign of his utter fear of the wet, slimy, disgusting...dirt! that covered the other wolf.
He almost took a step back, almost, but he was braver than Kajahli. The lean male wouldn't look entirely like a coward.
"Um...why are you...so....dirty??" And he closed his eyes as he asked, as if the sight of the mud was enough to cause him pain.
Heph had once called him overly dramatic.

Hm, this petition for new change in him just had to occur as he was meeting a wolf who didn't seem all that thrilled to be speaking with him, was it... did he just exude hatred that badly, from acting terrible his whole life?
"Uh... oh! I dunno, I just really like... it?" he sputtered, no one had ever asked him before, but he had had an affinity for mud his whole life. He had just never pinpointed why. It was just... something he did. Maybe the day before he would have defiantly asked why Leto was so clean, but the realization struck him that most wolves kept themselves neat regularly.
He dipped his head apologetically, noticing that this wolf didn't seem to appreciate dirt and mud as much as he did, and honestly, Rochir didn't blame Leto. He was used to the fact that maybe some of his hobbies weren't so acceptable to anyone else.

He really couldn't wrap his head around the concept of liking anything dirty and twitched an ear, glancing behind the other wolf to the disturbed mud hole.
"I see..." Noticing the apologetic look, Leto suddenly felt very foolish. This wolf hadn't done anything wrong! It was only his own personal downfalls and eccentricities that were getting in the way.
Glancing more closely at the wolf, which he had at first avoided due to the mud clinging to him, Leto noticed that the male was big, although not as big as Kiion.
Being around Heph and Kiion, one grew to accept feeling very, very small, as the father and son loomed over any other wolf Leto had ever seen.
He shook his head to clear it, and focused on the here and now. I wonder what he looks like under the filth...
"Um..."
Suddenly, a noise broke what could have quickly turned into a very awkward moment. Ears turning to the sound, Leto glanced into the trees just as the young doe froze, the inexperienced animal having stumbled upon the wolves.
"I'm hungry," he said, his eyes never leaving the doe, but the words directed towards the dirty male. The two words held an unspoken Are you?

Rochir reminded himself not to shake off close to Leto. The rough-and-tumble male could be a gentleman when necessary, and there was no need to get an unwilling wolf dirty.
A smile crept over his face as he realized he was being -ahem- checked out, and let himself do the same. Leto was lean, it wasn't that he was small or looked small, but there was something about the wolf that struck Rochir as being sleek.
He was about to suggest they take a walk and find some water for him to clean off in, when he heard the sound as well. He stood stock-still, awaiting that crucial moment of chase, willing his stomach not to growl and give them away.
As Leto spoke, Rochir launched himself forward in chase, the unspoken answer to Leto's unspoken question.

Leto had to jump back to avoid being attacked by the mud that flew from the other wolf's fur as he dashed past, but the lean wolf quickly joined the chase.
He was fast if not terribly strong, and almost always had the task of running past the prey to cut it off so that the wolf behind it could move in for the kill. Doing that now, Leto ran as fast as his legs could carry him, flanking the doe from a distant before breezing right past her.
She panicked at seeing him at her side and almost veered, but then the white wolf was suddenly before her, ramming his shoulder into her chest, teeth latched around her throat.

Rochir was laughing as he ran, a sort of madness overtook him during the chase for food, for continued life on his part. He wasn't as fast as Leto, but he had stamina and weight.
He was happy when he saw what Leto was doing, flanking and cutting off were never his strong points, and when Leto stopped the deer almost cold in her tracks, he lept, landing on the rear of the animal, weighing her down before digging his teeth in to hold her.
Rochir didn't mind who delivered the killing blow, as long as he got to eat. When he felt the doe go limp underneath him, he let go. "We make a nice team." he grinned, some of his mud having rubbed off his face, showing off the orange of his fur.

Leto let the doe fall from his jaws, tongue lolling as he panted. Glancing up at Rochir as he spoke, the white wolf's eyes widened upon seeing the brilliant color of his fur.
Now he really wanted to see him without his mud overcoat...
"So it would seem. Nice job," Leto said between pants, shaking himself as adrenaline still zinged through him. He sniffed the tears at the dead animal's throat, licking a spot of oozing blood as his stomach rumbled. Glancing at Rochir again, he sat on his haunches, unsure what to do now.
As alpha, Heph would always eat first, followed by Dione, Athena, then Kiion. Leto was usually nearly last, and he didn't quite know the dominance of his hunting companion, and wasn't keen on finding out. He hated dominance fights...they were messy.
"Um," he shifted his paws, "you first?"

Rochir paused, feeling awkward. As a lone hunting with other lones, they had always just shared and made sure to keep out of each other's way. Teeth on your face which were meant for the kill was not a pleasant feeling.
He grinned as Leto seemed to get a bit calmer about the mud. Maybe it was adrenaline, but either way, it was nice.
He raised an eyebrow at the request. "No, no... " he stuttered a bit, before realizing that this wolf must be from a pack. They normally let their alphas and higher ranking eat first, right? Rochir was unsure - he had never belonged to a pack in his life.
"There's no need to wait; eat with me, not after me." he explained with a smile on his maw.

A surprised look flitted across Leto's face, but then he smiled hesitantly. "You won't bite me?" he said ruefully, remembering many a time when Athena had drawn blood not only from him, but even her brother Hephaestus. She had always had delusions about being the alpha.
"Sorry. I'm used to eating last. This is...new." His tail wagged and he grinned at the other wolf, pleasantly ignoring the mud caking Rochir. As long as the orange male didn't get him dirty....

The orange male laughed heartily. "Nope, won't bite ya." he winked, playfully, before tucking in to the rump of the doe. He listened to Leto's next words as he chewed on the meat he pulled from the animal.
"It's alright, pack wolf." he grinned slyly, not ever having been subjected to the rigors of a pack before. But it was odd, not knowing if anything you're doing is even acceptable to wolfkind anymore.
Ohwell. "So..." he smiled sheepishly, not sure what to say next, as they ate.

Leto pondered before digging into the shoulder, carefully tearing away the fur with the short teeth between his canines before he started ripping chunks of flesh off. He ate daintily; the fur was piled neatly beside the body, and not a speck of blood marred the white fur of his maw. Even so, he licked his chops often, making sure he wasn't making a mess of himself.
At the other wolf's word, Leto realized with a start that he had settled into an amicable silence. Swallowing what he had in his maw, he flicked his ears in embarrassment. "Sorry, my manners are lacking. Rochir..." Leto paused as he tasted the name on his tongue again, finding that it indeed was a pleasant sound. "I'm guessing pack life isn't your forte. Have you wandered alone for a while?"
Leto was a poor social wolf, leaving that to Kiion and Hephaestus, but he attempted here, hoping he wasn't asking something foolish or inappropriate.
