Lake Lux is a large lake that takes water from the great waterfall that creates Mirage Pass and gives it to the Spirit River to be carried away. The ground around it is slightly damp, the air humid. The water is cool, but not freezing and quite clean.

Wolves and animals alike come to bask in the calm waters of the Lake, trusting a drink from here versus the raging Spirit River. The biodiversity is large as this is a neutral ground between the packs. Plants thrive and animals scurry about. The fringe of the forest serves as a soft wall contrary to the looming cliffs on the other side.

Pebbles surround most of the water, though there are spots where the shore is made up of dirt. Grass has claimed most of the land, but until the point where the earth to too waterlogged, only hardy plants survive any further.

User ImageAqua blue eyes carefully scanned the area in front of him. The male was crouched low to the ground, partially hidden in both the grass and the shadow of a nearby tree. He really wanted to avoid running into others, if he could help it, and so Asmodeus approached the side of the lake as slowly as possible. The young pup was thirsty - and hungry, despite having eaten that bird from before.

Thus here he was, attempting to lap up some of the water without being seen.

He heaved a sigh of relief when he felt the smooth surface of pebbles against his paws. Lifting himself into a sitting position, he settled himself - shifting into a comfortable seat - on the bank. Then, tail flicking in a pleased motion, he lowered his head and began lapping at the cool liquid, relishing the feel it it sliding down his throat.

Tafari's stomach growled and the pup growled back at it. He wasn't used to having to search for his food and water, seeing how he had spent most of his young life in a zoo. Just recently getting out of the prison Tafari made his way into the forest not knowing were else to go. The pup had a swagger in his step, even at such a young age, and his head and tail were held high. Tafari had no clue of what was in the forest so his ears remained forward, not listening to any surrounding sounds. He had a smirk on his face as he walked into a clearing. The maned wolf pup smelled the fresh scent of water so he trotted over to the lake. Not caring to look around he dipped his head and began to lap up the cool water. Only after Tafari was done drinking did he realize that there was another pup sitting on the far bank. He looked at the pup and his strange markings but didn't care to approach. A smirk settled itself on Tafari's face as he sat on his haunches, though, still holding himself in a 'I'm better than you' posture.

User ImageThe brown pup lapped at his maw as he lifted his head back up, relieved at the feeling of his thirst being quenched. With that done, he could concentrate fully on other things without his throat bothering him anymore. Granted, it was a temporary relief, as he would only become thirsty again later, but it was enough to last him.

However, the content buzz flowing through him quickly fled when he caught sight of something at the corner of his eye. Freezing, Asmodeus turned his gaze towards the rusty colored figure across the bank. His eye narrowed and he growled a little bit at the back of his throat. However, it came out as more of a scoff as he took in the pose the other pup was in. 'Overconfident, much?' Eying him, and mentally rolling his eyes at what he saw, he immediately decided on his next course of action.

Mody turned around so his back was to the other male, and leaned forward to lap at the water once more. If he just ignored the pup, maybe he'd leave him alone.

Tafari watched the other pup adn noticed how his coat pattern seemed to grow. It interested him but he smirked when the pup turned his back on him. Debating whether to go over Tafari quickly made up his mind. He swaggered over to the other side of the lake, is head and tail held high along with a smirk on his face. When he came closer to the other male instead of a usual greeting Tafari barked out. "What's a matter with you?" He trotted over infront of the other wolf. Even though the two pups were probably close in age Tafari was taller considering he was a maned wolf.

User ImageFor a second there, he was beginning to think it was working, but he was soon proven wrong when he heard paw steps trotting closer to him. His ears drooped as he let out an audible sigh of annoyance. Honestly, couldn't the other wolf see that he wanted to be left alone? Was that really too much to ask?

Deciding to continue with his course of action, Asmodeus stared down at the water, seemingly focused on the surface of it. His nose scrunched up when he could see the reflection of the rusty, tall being walk in front of him. He was tempted to simply blow off any attempts at conversation, but when the pup spoke, he couldn't help glancing up to stare incredulously at him.

Knee-jerk reaction prompted him to open his mouth.
"... 'Who the hell says 'a' instead of 'the'?"

Marie stepped out of the shade and looked at the two males with a sense of vague curiosity. She was still stressed out over the split and having to choose sides and although she had decided where she was going, it didn't make it any less taxing on the small pup. She watched the orange male with her deep amber gaze, watching him walk and noting, with some sense of distaste his Superiority Complex.

She didn't like wolves like that.

It annoyed her quite a bit, and while she knew some were just like that by nature it didn't change her annoyance.

She turned her gaze from the tall, long legged male to the other pup there.. She'd seen him before, she realized. Dark brown fur, markings that glowed. She'd given him a bird. Both of them looked thin and hungry. She thought about it and decided maybe it would behoove them to try a bit of hunting. Long legs would have speed advantage, the brown pup hid well, and she had some newly aqquired skills, maybe they would com in handy, but first, she needed to assess the situation.

She cleared her throat and stepped into their line of sight. "Excuse me, Longshanks." She said, brushing past the large male, ignoring the fact that he towered above her, as she was smaller than the other male. It was just in her blood. Her legs were long and thin, but she was small framed and delicate. A wolf of the Flyer pack, her appearance was not surprising tho she was smaller than the usual flyer.

She looked at Mody, then at the other. "You don't take a hint well, and you clearly can't read body language... you're arrogant and you don't pay attention to your surroundings..." she walked around the tall male slowly, observing him. "Well groomed, for the most part... light footed, and unlike any wolf I've seen. So, I'm starting to think you're not a natural forest dweller." her soft, silky voice was accusatory, but not unkind. Let that put a limp in his swagger, maybe a blow to his pride.

She looked at him for a moment more before saying, "Now, I can see that you're both hungry. I saw some rabbits and a doe with twins on my way here... I think we all have abilities and attributes that may be useful... So, if you want to eat, I can help you get food, but you're going to have to work together." As she said this, she looked at Mody, "You'll have to get over your dislike of being with others, just for awhile." and she turned to look at the orange one, "And you'll need to drop that Arrogant, better then everyone attitude of yours because you're going to have to listen to me if you want to eat." she said firmly.

Tafari heard the other pup's sigh. He laughed openly not caring to keep it in. "Apparently I say 'a' instead of 'the'." The maned wolf crossed his eyes mockingly. Tafari didn't notice that the female was there until she cleared her throat. He turned slowly facing her. 'What the hell is a longshank?' The pup thought to himself though he held his question. Tafari ignored the fae's comments and instead tilted his snout up higher, only bringing it down when Marie started to circle him. He spun around so he was facing her the whole time, even though he had lived in a zoo he knew enough not to turn your back on someone or something. "I'm not from around here." Tafari didn't care to share that he wasn't wild but he supposed if they directly asked he would tell them. At the mention of food the young wolf's ears perked up and he payed closer attention to what Marie was saying. His ears dropped lower when he found he had to work with that other male pup. He grimaced slightly but agreed, he was starving. "I'm Tafari." The maned wolf mumbled.

She saw the flicker of question in his eyes when she first spoke, and though he didn't speak it, she knew he must have wondered. She did have a tendency to say words few had heard. "I called you long legged... by the way." she said when she had stopped circling him and sat down to face the two. "And good that you have the instinct to watch your back... you'll do just fine... but your cocky attitude will get you into trouble with an Alpha if you ever join a pack." she warned. It wasn't rude, or harsh, just a softly spoken point to be made. She looked at Tafari a moment longer then offered a small, timid smile. "And I'm Marie... Welcome to Sernin..." she turned to look at the brown pup. "And what of you? Hungry enough to suffer my company a bit longer?" she asked, ears perked so the long tresses fell cutely around her face, her tail wagging slightly bhind her.

User ImageSo he had to admit that this new pup - or not so new, seeing as they had met before - won a few points in his book for the way she shot down his attitude. Though when she turned her attention to him, Mody grimaced at the thought of having to be around them any longer. Said facial expression turned into a scowl as he considered what she said, watching them talk as he did.

She was right in that they would have better luck getting food if they worked together. So when she turned back to him, he reluctantly nodded.
"Alright." He paused, before muttering out a hesitant, "I'm Asmodeus."

Marie nodded, "Okay, Tafari, Asmodeus, let's talk strategy. Tafari, you've got really long legs, so I'm guessing you're pretty fast, yeah? And Asmodeus, despite your glowing markings and handsome colors, you're really good at hiding... so my idea is this; I'll lead you to where I saw the den and I'll draw one of the rabbits out, if we're lucky, it'll be the older, bigger rabbit, he looks good... anyways, I will lure him out using a technique I picked up when observing them, then I'll block the den entrance so the rabbit can't get back in, then Tafari, you startle the rabbit and get it to run. Your legs should carry you quick enough that you should be able to keep pace with the older rabbit, then all you have to do is chase him to where Asmodeus will be hiding, and Asmodeus, when they get close enough, you can jump from your hiding place and pin the rabbit..." she didn't say who would make the kill. She had the skill to do it, but she wanted to leave it open to the males. "Do either of you want to end it's life? Do either of you wish to make the kill?"
PostPosted: Sun Aug 08, 2010 4:27 pm

User ImageAsmodeus' tail flicked back and forth as he listened to her plan. It was a sound idea, use their best attributes to get the results they wanted, and if it worked, they would have something to eat. He ignored the inward cringe he felt at the thought of dining around others. It wasn't smart to pass up the chance for food when it landed in front of you, especially when you did not live with a pack. So he mentally shook it off, while on the outside, he simply nodded once she had finished explaining.

When she got to the topic of making the kill, he shrugged indifferently. He didn't care either way who killed the rabbit, just so long as he got his share of the meal. Though he had a feeling that if they let Tafari do it, his ego might inflate more than necessary. At that thought, his nose scrunched up in distaste, but he chose not to say anything. Whether that was a wise choice on his part, he wasn't sure.

Tafari listened intently then recoiled. Sure he could run fast but kill a rabbit. . .what?! What were they talking about? He shook his head, "I'm not killing it." The pup said with ditaste. Tafari's posture relaxed into a more wolfie stance instead of the 'I'm better than you' posture. "I'll chase it but, . . ." He stopped mid sentence knowing if he wanted to survive out here he would have to kill something but the thought of taking somethings life unerved him. "I can try." Tafari said without an egotistical tone. One of the only times he wasn't sure of himself.

Marie looked at the orange male. "See? That's good, you're learning, and you're thinking about what you would be doing." A grasshopper leaped past them and she quickly pinned it beneath her paw. "This grasshopper is so much smaller than me, so frail, a little pressure could kill it... but it would have lost it's life for nothing, and that would be wrong..." she lifted her paw and watched the insect flee.

With a quick whistle a bird came from the tree tops and landed at her paws. "This bird, it comes to me when I call it, I could catch it and kill it now but it would not fill me, and I am not so hungry I am near death, so this bird's death would be in vain," she nudged the bird away and it flew to the tree tops again.

"The rabbit we are hunting will soothe the ache of hunger, will make us stronger... this rabbit will give it's life and we will further ours... so remember, when you kill the rabbit, make it quick, and make it painless. Take it by the head and twist so the neck breaks. Then, before you feed, thank the rabbit's spirit for giving you it's body, so it may be born again and live life anew." her words and views were strange for a pup, she was on the verge of growing, and her mind was expanding and learning...

User ImageAsmodeus blinked as he watched Marie talk about grasshoppers and birds, withholding a snort. Where on earth did she get these analogies? Although the bird trick was neat. True, she was right about it not really filling one's stomach, but it was a good technique to have if you ever really needed it. Of course, the only use he could think of was for food, but whatever.

He was also rather surprised that Tafari actually did not seem excited about making the kill. Call him callous, but he figured the kind of "glory" he got from it would be something he wanted. 'Hmph, well, go figure.'

Grunting as she finished explaining how to finish the rabbit, he looked around them, looking for the most likely place a rabbit might be. 'Hopefully we won't have to search very far for a rabbit hole,' he mused to himself.
