Introduction

Welcome to Melethia's guide to team building. What this guide shall do is to give you tips to help with building a team for the Metagame. Sometimes team building can be a a difficult task. Even more so if you are new to it. I really hope that the tips will be useful to help.

(This topic will be locked until I finish this guide. And for somethings this may take a while.)

For Any Team

Tips for any team you build:

1. Try not to have too many sweepers and on the other hand don't have too many walls.

Sweepers are those that have a good amount of Attack, Special Attack, or both. They will also have good speed. They don't have the best of defenses.

Walls or Tanks are basically what the name implies. They have good defenses. They don't always have the best attack power or speed.

2. Pay attention to the following clauses

Uber Clause
Legendary Clause
Big 4(5) Clause
Species Clause

If these clause are around they will affect what pokemon you can use.

The Uber Clause means that any pokemon in Uber tier is banned in battle. This clause is VERY common in Metagame. So try to stick by this clause.

The Legendary Clause prevents the usage of Legendary Pokemon. This isn't a very common clause but sometimes it is used here in the guild.

The Big 4 Clause limits the number of Big 4 that can be used to 1. The Big 4 pokemon are Dragonite, Tyranitar, Metagross, and Salamence. Garchomp use to be part of this group, but since the move to Uber it's no longer needed to be in this clause. This clause can also be called the Big 5 Clause.

Species Clause prevents the number of pokemon you can use an evolutionary family to 1. Meaning you can't have 2 Infernapes on your team or in some cases have Gallade and Gardevoir on the same team the second case doesn't apply here in the guild. The Eeveelutions are the exception to the rule though.

3. Have a good lead pokemon

Your lead pokemon has to be a good part to your team.

Most leads are for setting Stealth Rock, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes.

Some leads are to counter the most common leads.

Some are suicide leads. They will have either Explosion or Destiny Bond with them. They are meant to take a pokemon from the other team with them.

Almost all leads will have Focus Sash as their item so that they have time to do what they are set to do.

For Standard Metagame Teams

1. Try not to have the 2 pokemon of the same type

2. Don't have more than 2 pokemon share a common weakness

Need help on figuring that out? Click this link: http://pokemon.marriland.com/diamond_pearl/team_builder/ This is a team builder. This will show type wise how good your team is. All you need to do is put in your pokemon. Just pokemon.

3. Don't always go for the most common pokemon. Get creative with your team

4. Movesets apply to this rule as well. Get creative with the movesets for your pokemon.

For Mono Type Teams

1. Cover your weakness the best you can. I will be giving suggestions for what pokemon can help you out for each type. Well all besides the dragon type since there are only 5 available Dragons in the game thus far that isn't blocked by uber clause. The guild does allow the dragon egg group for this case.

Note: Even if Latias was OU in Smogon I think the guild still considers Latias Uber.

2. If weather condition's help your type, use it. Here's what I mean.

Ground, Rock, Steel types, and pokemon with Sand Veil. aren't affect by Sandstorm. Sand Veil also raises evasion in a sandstorm.

Ice types and pokemon with Snow Cloak aren't affect by Hail. Snow Cloak also raises evasion in Hail.

Water attacks are multiplied by 1.5 in rain, but are multiplied by 0.5 in sunshine. Pokemon with Swift Swim have their speed multiplied by 1.5 in rain.

Fire attacked are multiplied by 1.5 in sunshine, but are multiplied bye 0.5 in rain. Pokemon with Chlorophyll have their speed multiplied by 1.5 in sunshine.
