I need some critique on this drawing. I don't really care much about the body since that part was mostly rushed, so I'm looking more for critique on the head. Red lines are always appreciated ^-^ thanks

If you don't care about the body then there's not much here to realy critique.

The head shape is a little lopsided and the ears are too small and too low. Shows decent Technical skill but lacks almost all emotion. Would rather see a baddly drawn piece that contains alot of emotion than a very well drawn piece that contains none.

Nothing really stands out about it, just the standard "how to draw Manga" head seen everywhere.

Decent use of color, but the majority of the picture is the body so take some more time to draw it and make it stand out.

The character was meant to have little emotion. And to hear that it looks like a 'how to draw manga' head is disappointing >.< but it only shows that I need A LOT of work. And here I was thinking I had my own great style >.>'' thanks for pointing that out. Thanks for taking the time to reply ^-^ and this was all done in school so I didn't really have time to concentrate on details. But I'm also only 13, so I know I have a long way to go.

not only is it the standard "how to draw manga" head, but the standard "oh crap I suck with hands and arms...AHA lets tuck em' behind the back ^^" technique. (not meaning to be cruel, we all go through that phase =P)

now I will stop making fun and throw in something useful.

1. It appears that the 2 ears both attach in different spots of the head...in fact, it looks like 1 ear is an entirely different ear...less curve on top of the ear, and 1 has lobe attached 1 not...or at least that is the vibe I am getting.

2. one boob sags more than the other...nuff' said.

Keep working on stuff...I know head on shots are what most beginners start at, but are the toughest imo because it is often hard to make everything perfectly symmetrical. ex. ears, eyes, arms, boobs, whatever =P. and you often end up with a polio-stricken character =P.

practice different poses...even just LOOKING at different poses helps for me a lot...think when you look at a pose: "How do the arms bend to make that gesture? where are the shoulders positioned from this bend? etc. Also look at the shape of different parts when in different positions. I still stop and observe key points of interesting works I see even now...it always helps. After you look at enough poses and work in your head how things twist each way and such, you can start to draw them from your mind...first with assistance, then later without.

I find that if I look at about 50-100 different well-drawn pictures each day and observe the poses, eventually I get to know most standard poses (there are benchmarks; even if they aren't plain, they are often used frequently) and also I learn how to make my own poses even if I have never seen them based on information gained from other poses. Hope I helped and good luck ^^.
