The party was all set and rearing to go. The picnic tables, campfire, and food tables had all been set up in the grassy fields between the Durem Caves and the Durem Reclamation Hub. The area was lighted by the orange glow of the fire, the pale silvery light of the stars and moon, and the bobbing multicolored lights of what, from a distance, appeared to be fireflies.
Aaron sat one of the benches by the fire, roasting hot dogs and smoked sausage over the fire, a plate of uncooked meat on one side of him and a plate of cooked meat on the other. "Crap, not again!" the boy exclaimed before letting out an exasperated sigh as he put the blackened and burnt hotdogs on the plate. Judging by the plates contents, this had been the result of all his attempts. Hopefully, the next batch wouldn't burn?
Darcy was curled up on one of the benches, sleeping. The girl looked a bit different from the last time she'd hosted a social gathering. The young girl was definitely thinner than she'd been before, and obviously more fatigued. She curled up under her blanket, oblivious to the fact that the fact that the party was supposed to be starting any moment now. Oh, she'd wake up as people started to arrive, but for now, she'd catch up on her rest.
Jaella was sitting away from the tables and fire, sitting among the tall grasses. She hugged the little three-eyed toddler she held in her lap, pointing up at the stars. "Look, CantiCan, there's the Big Dipper! And over there's Orion's Belt!" the purple haired girl chirped, pointing out the constellations to her little bundle of joy.
Cantarella looked less than enthused. "Neh." was the only thing the little pale yellow toddler uttered, her little forked tongue flicking out. Judging by her brightly colored clothes, Jaella had dressed the poor little dear. Canta tried to squirm out of her mother's arms, brows furrowing at the teen. Couldn't she take a hint?

R.J. and her little horde of two were the first to show up it seemed. Imani, the one that was of the same basic race as Jae, looked about. She knew she had seen Jae once or twice before, but she never talked to her. It would have been nice if the picture on the invite was colored for her to make sure. It looked like the purple haired girl she saw at at least the Valentine's day party...wasn't it? She couldn't remember...
Chase, the blue and other colors Curio, stayed closer to his mother as Imani went ahead to look around. Ever since a rather realistic dream where a crazy girl nearly burned him alive, he had been rather quiet, and R.J. was really hoping that this little party thing would get him out of his solemn funk.
"Fireflies?" Imani questioned, pointing up at the blinking lights. R.J. had told her about them, but being born near Halloween, she had never actually seen them.
"I don't think so sweetie. They normally are just one color..." was the response.

Eve looked around in the arms of her grandfather, well her mother had said that about him. Louie had practically begged Ivy to let him escort her daughter to the party, but the assassin had agreed when he promised he wouldn't hurt anyone and would behave himself.
Eve had enjoyed the sight of the blonde vampire begging when he was so scary to others at times. She knew her mother had enjoyed it as even Eve thought Louie acted like a child in that.
However the vampire insisted on carrying her to the party, his reason being that he didn't want her to step on glass on the way there. Eve didn't understand, but at least he would put her down on the ground once they arrived.
The moment Louie sat her down, Eve started to wander around with Louie as a silent guardian.

Zee had smiled ruefully at the invitation he had recieved from Jaella. It seemed the teenaher needed writing lessons, not that he could blame her according to her age. English was quite a difficult language to learn, he knew that first hand. The dark elf had decided to go; he had no arguement with the girl, and he had promised to let her meet Leyla anyway. Carrying a medium sized brightly colored box in one arm, and an equally brightly colored Leyla in the other, the sight was decidedly odd. Or would have been, had it not been a birthday party.
Leyla was wearing a green and yellow sundress with two tiny pigtail-trees in her hair tied up with yellow ribbon. It seemed her father hadn't picked her outfit. "Do you think Jaella will like her present?" she asked.
"She'll love it," Howl assured his younger sister, stepping out from behind his father. He too, was carrying a brightly colored box. "Still wish Devin hadn't decided to get sick right before the party. He would have liked to come." Devin had unfortunately caught his cousins' cold. "Maybe we can take him a piece of cake after the party," he added.
Zee sighed, and turned to look at Howl. "Just make sure you don't get hit again," he said sternly. He didn't want Jaella's party to be ruined; she was much too nice. "There's Jaella," he pointed out, before handing his box to Howl. "I promised I'd introduce Leyla to her," he said, by explaination. Hoisting Leyla up onto his shoulder, he made his way over to her. "Hey Jae, happy birthday," he said with a smile. "This is Leyla," he added, before noticing that she too had a child with her. "Who's this? Is she yours?"

Aaron looked up, waving to the arriving guest. "Glad you could make it." he said, smiling. He overheard Imani's question, listening before waving to the bobbing and blinking lights. "Firefly sprites." he explained, rolling his eyes. "Annoying little buggers, I swear. They keep trying to steal the cupcakes." The boy chuckled, shaking his head. Silly little faerie-bug-things. "Hungry? We've got hot dogs and smoked sausage, and there's cake and cupcakes over on the table next to the chips."
Darcy stirred as people started to slowly arrive, but she didn't wake up. Why would she want to? She was having such an interesting dream...
Jae looked up at Zee, grinning. "Thank you, Mr. Zulpen!" she chirped before giving a little delighted squeal. "Hello there, Leyla!" she greeted, smiling brightly at the infant as she waved. She then stood up, holding her little girl out for them to see. "This is Cantarella. And yep, she's mine!" The last comment was accented by a hug and a giggle as she kissed her baby on the top of her bald head.
Cantarella hissed as the new people approached, eyes narrowing. She squirmed, trying to escape from the hug her mother had forced on her. Oh, if she wasn't so small, so help her.... Okay, so she wouldn't really do anything since she did love her mommy in a way, but that didn't mean she couldn't mentally threaten.

"FIREFLIES!" came the happy yell as Luvvie barreled up through the fields, tumbling over herself a time or two but always getting right back up, eager to chase the shining multi-colored lights that she thought were little bugs. "Fireflies~ Fireflies~ I'm gonna catch a FI-RE-FLY!"
Miri followed her at a more sedate pace, forgoing the fireflies to go over to Jaella, a small present resting in her hands. She peered at the people surrounding Jae - there was Howl, and she guessed others of his family. She waited behind them, not wanting to bother them or Jaella. She hoped the purple-haired girl would like her present though - she had made it herself.
Axel tried to free himself from his mother's hand, insisting that he didn't need her to hold onto him, he was really big, remember, he didn't need treated like a baby! Not that it mattered, Tish wasn't letting go of him no matter what. "It will just be a minute longer, Axel. No need to run away," she said, only to get an annoyed frown in response. Axel wanted to see if Demy were here, after all! Never mind that Tish held onto both him and the presents (aside from the one Miri held) and was having a hard time balancing both - he wasn't his brother, and if his brother wasn't here, then he at least wanted cupcakes!

Imani's tummy grumbled as if on cue. She looked about and saw the blackened hot dogs and sausages and...clapped. How did he know that she liked them crispy on the outside? She was quick to grab a bun and plopped a sausage right on it, one that didn't seem as hot of course. She took a big bite and grinned from ear to ear as she chewed.
"Just the way I likes um. Mama has to cook mine special cause she and Chase don't like um this way, thank you~" she said with a sing song voice, when her mouth wasn't stuffed with food.
R.J. had a feeling the boy would keep Imani entertained for now, so she took Chase over to the table to find him something to eat.
"Firefly sprites? How are they different from reg'lar fireflies? I never seen a firefly yet, so I dunno..." Imani inquired as she continued to munch.

Eve stopped as she remembered the picture she had done of Jaella from the last time she saw the girl, her memory was somewhat clear when it came to some people. Others were a different matter.
She turned to Louie and asked him to see where the gifts were supposed to be put. The blonde vampire nodded, going over to an orange-haired boy that seemed to be cooking food. He hoped that the boy knew where the gifts were to be. A thought did come to him to make sure Eve had something to eat before they went home later.
Ivy would maim him completely if her daughter came home staving and Louie rather favored his good looks over what the assassin would do to them.

"Hey Aaron?" Where do we put the presents?" Howl asked, making his way to the older boy, rather slowly as to not drop the boxes. "Is there an empty table?" He glanced around hopefully. He really wanted to talk to Jaella. It wasn't at all fair that he'd been stuck carrying the presents.
"Sure," Zee said with a smile. "Hi Cantarella," he greeted the infant. He silently wondered whether Jaella knew that her daughter was named after a poison. Oh well, Maybe Leyla could make friends with her. He carefully sat Leyla on the grass, before sitting down himself. He looked up at Jae and grinned. "Stargazing isn't something to miss in June, you know. I'm not going to sing, though."
"Hello, Jaella," Leyla greeted the teenager. "Happy birthday. Daddy says if I had waited to be born for a few more days, I could have been your birthday present. I don't think he would actually give me to you, though." Even the infant knew how possessive her father was of her. Not to say the infant wasn't possessive of her father, she was. Very. Golden eyes studied Jaella with intelligent curiousity. "I like you. You belong to Leyla."
Zee ignored his daughter. "Howl wants to see you," he said, gesturing to the wizard. "He says he wants to thank you for something. He wouldn't tell me why."

Jaella smiled, grinning and waving to Miri! "Glad to see you could come, Miriam!" she chirped, giggling before hugging the little girl with one arm, careful not to squish Canti. She smiled at Leyla, giggling. "That would have been awesomesauce! We could have had double-parties and double the fun!" The girl clapped her hands together, making a happy little sound. "I like you too!" she replied, not seeming to hear the second part. She looked back up at Zee, nodding. "Okies!" she chirped.
Darcy woke up, yawning and stretching. "Oh, people..." she mumbled, standing up to banish the stiffness from her legs. She glanced over at Tish, who seemed to be overwhelmed with kids and boxes. She walked over, holding her arms out. "Here. I can hold Axel while you deal with the presents." she offered, managing a small smile.
Aaron smiled at Imani, chuckling. "I'm glad you like them, Imani." he said, glad that someone appreciated his efforts. "If you want, I can toast some potato chips for you to go with them." He then paused, thinking. "Well, fireflies are little glowy bugs. Firefly sprites look like flying toddlers, but tiny. They glow, too."
Aaron looked over at Howl. Crap, they didn't have a table for the gifts! "Um... you can go give them to Jae." he suggested, smiling slightly. He then looked over the Eve and an adult he didn't recognize, waving in greeting.

Imani giggled and nodded. "That would be nice! Thanks!" she chirped before munching on her food some more, watching the flitting lights above them.
"Are they nice? Or do they keep away from people mostly? I know they like cupcakes, cause you said they've been trying to take them..."

Louie waved back, smiling as he now knew where to take Eve's gift for the birthday girl, but thought Eve should bring the picture to her friend herself.
He also planned on seeing about getting something for Eve to eat before she got too hungry.
After a few moments, he found Eve and handed her the container that held the picture to protect it. "Eve, bring the picture to her yourself."
Eve nodded and ran over to where Jaella was though she backed off a little when she saw that she was talking to another girl.

Leyla smiled. She always liked it when people allowed her to claim them. "You're very pretty. Howl has your presents, I helped pick them out," she added, with an edge of smugness to her tone. Just a little bit.
"Sounds good," Howl said with a smile and a nod. "Thanks Aaron!" It seemed the wizard had gotten over the grudge he had once held against the older boy. He made his way to Jaella carefully, making sure he didn't drop the boxes he was carrying. "Hey Jae," he said, when he'd finally made it to the teenager's side. "Happy birthday!" He paused, and set the boxes on the ground, before wrapping his arms around her. "Thank you," he muttered. "For helping me find Sophie."

Aaron smiled, looking over at the glittering sprites. "They're pretty nice." he said, shaking potato chips into a pan to crisp for the girl. "They're pretty friendly, not too shy. They'll fly right up to you if you let them." he explained, cooking the chips. "No prob, Howl." he said, looking over to the blonde wizard and offering a nod.
Jaella smiled, looking over to Eve and waving the young girl over. She then giggled, looking back to the infant. "Thank you! You're prettyfulls too!" she chirped. Her eyes widened at the presents; she didn't know birthdays entailed presents! Awesome! She hugged howl, smiling. "No prob!" she assured him, nodding.

"Hi, Leyla," Eve waved to her friend and nodding at Zee in greeting with the picture in hand. She walked over quietly, feeling shy and getting annoyed at the feeling.
She smiled and offered the container to her, "The gift's inside the container." The picture was of Jaella at the ball and Eve hoped she liked the picture though she hadn't gotten to work on a picture of Leyla as she was planning on doing a picture for each of her friend.
"Happy birthday."
