Description: Located in an open-roof stadium is the ring where the first round fights will be taking place. The sound of wild cheering from the many fans that have congregated here fill the arena in a loud uproar as cameras zoom in on the action to broadcast the fights all over the world. The floor of the arena is a glossy hard floor with the logo of GTB painted in purple and pink upon the white sheen.

Field Measurements: The fighting area is a perfect circle with a 50 yard diameter. The walls that keep the fighters away from the spectators are raised up to ten feet.

Ten Count Boundary: The ten count begins whenever the fighter is knocked out of the bounds of the fighting area, such as into the spectator seats. The flying count out is also in effect, which means, if you stay above ground by your own will for more than ten seconds, you will be DQ'd.

Fight Ends: After 11:59 PM on Jun 21st. That means when it becomes Jun 22nd, fights are over.

Suddenly in the north-west area of the field there was a burst of crimson light, almost blinding, and the spectators had to shield their eyes. Leylines of brilliant white energy crackled in the air, there was a shimmer and then the light dissipated to reveal Viviana Merquise. The commander having beamed directly down from her Airship. After all, just because she'd entered in an exciting tournament didn't mean the business of her Ship and it's crew just ceased. It didn't mean she got to take a holiday. (Although there had been much debate with her superior as to shore leave and when exactly there was an appropriate time to take it. The answer had been Never. Viviana. There is never an appropriate time to take it.)

So now, Commander Merquise was performing a delicate juggling act between the duties of the ship and her duties to the competition. If nothing else, this whole production would be an experiment in time management.

The Lamia looked far from intimidating, standing at a meagre 5'2", one hand resting lazily upon the twisted hilt of a sabre. Her sapphire orbs scanned the field, they darted up to the crowd cheering in their bleachers. She raised her right hand in a salute. A small group of men in military uniform on the opposite side of the stadium hooted and hollered enthusiasticly.

"Rip him apart Commander!" One of them, a young Asian man by the name of Kim cried out with a broad grin.

Viviana chuckled, shaking her head slightly, her silver curls swaying gently with the movement.

While she waited for her opponent to make his appearance, she busied herself with unbuttoning her crimson officers coat and laying it by the wayside.

After the crowd was done cheering for the first competitor it had grown eerily silent. And from the south east a rumble could be heard. The rumble continued to grow in noise, until suddenly it stopped. Then threw the south east arena door there was a loud cry and a boot threw the door. The boot retracted as it was still clearly attached to a foot. And it shoved open as a small squadron of pirates invaded the audience. Many were armed to the teeth, and anyone close to them could tell they had started the morning drinking. However larceny was not their goal at least not at the moment. Many took seats in the audience and uncorked flasks and began cheering.

Mean while one apart from the rest, but closest to the entrance they had came through, a single man took out an oddly colored pipe. The owner of the pipe was a scrawny long hair elf and when he lit the pipe and after a few minutes of inhaling unleashed a cloud of tangy smelling smoke…and for some reason…butterflies.

Oddly enough this seems to be some sort of signal, as the squadron of pirates began to chant a single name in unison.

“Kar Alagos, Kar Alagos, Kar Alagos!”

Then as the cheering reached a crescendo he appeared from the door.

His short stature, pointed ears, and angular face marked him as an elf, however that’s where the similarities between him and those god damn hippy tree hugging elves ended as he put it. Even as he swaggered towards the fighting area it was clear that he was far more muscular than any elf the crowd had seen before. His skin was pail almost on the verge of being opaque and a blue face tattoo squalled across his face was also a point of interest. However as he climbed onto the fighting stage he pull a ring off his finger and casually tossed it aside. Tilting his b***h’n hat upwards so his entire face could get a bit of sun, His pale skin turned a dark red, the blue face tattoo suddenly becoming pitch black.

Suddenly the audience was very confused.

There was silence for a while until; the now red elf looked over at the audience with a defiant look on his face. His white eye brows furrowed as he posited loudly

“What the ******** ya’ll look-in’ at?!”

The audience's confusion did not cease, but however due to the sudden realization that at the captain statement the squadron of pirates seemed ready to stop spectating and go back to plan B of robbing everyone.

The crowd decided to look somewhere else.

Satisfied that the audience had decided to hold off on their curiosity, he moved forward towards his female competitor. He then took off his b***h’n hat reviling a white colored mohawk as he swept down a brief but deep bow.

“Madam Viviana I presume? It’s a pleasure to meet you. You’ll have to excuse my outburst there but I can get rather upset if I have had my rum before ten. “

Despite the sincere expression on his face his eyebrow angled playfully making it uncertain whether he was being serious or poking fun at the military officer’s coat, He saw by her feet. With a flick of his wrist he placed the b***h’n hat back atop his head, he angled his head towards the audience as he said, “I imagine most people paid good money to see more than two people talking…I suggest we do not disappoint.”

"But of course Capitaine Alagos." Viviana said with a nod of her head. "I 'ardly imagine why you would wait until after 10 to 'ave your rum. I myself 'ad mine at aroud 7:45 this morning with some pancakes." The Lamia didn't even bother trying to keep a straight face. Her lips were split in a broad wolfish grin. Anyone who knew commander Merquise knew that she had more than just a passing penchant for liquor.

"But it is as you say, the crowd do not wish to see us trade pleasantries. We shall save it for after the duel."

And with those words, Viviana loosed her sabre from her scabbard, and launched herself towards Kar Alagos. The tip of her blade was not infact aimed at any part of the Pirate's body, but instead the purpose of Viviana's attack was to simply knock the hat from his head.

After all, it was a rather large target, the Lamia was concerned all those feather's might distract her from the man's torso.

"Ah, hell."

Connor hurried through the tunnel; he could see the light at the end and the arena in which his opponent waited for him. And had been waiting. He rushed into the arena, all thoughts swept from his mind at the sight of the roaring crowd. "Well...it's certainly no Heaven or Hell."

Whether or not Viviana's original opponent had forfeited or just hadn't shown up, Connor was here now and that was all that mattered. The plumbing wrench smacked against his leg as made his way to Viviana. Her choice of dress didn't seem to ruffle Connor, but then again all he was wearing was a stitched up jacket over an undershirt and a pair of loose-fitting khaki pants. Apart from the tentatively armoured boots, Connor was dressed rather casually. And at 5'11" with dark bluish-black hair, he was pretty average looking, if a bit tall compared to Viviana.

"Sorry to make you wait!" he apologized, giving Viviana a wide grin. He didn't immediately adopt a fighting stance but scratched at his right arm absentmindedly as he turned around, taking in the arena before he completed the circle, facing Viviana. "What say we get this started, eh?"

Viviana had been concerned, that her previous opponent, a hat of grand proportions was to be all that was to challenge in this first round of the GTB. While it had offended her sense of style, it hadn't really done much to offend her person physically. And then, Connor Kroww came bursting on the scene. Viviana did a double take. There was something familiar about that kid. She shrugged it off as he slid to a halt before her.

"All I 'ave to say to you, young man, is I am glad you are not wearing a 'at." Came Viviana's rather brusque reply. Poor Connor would have no idea why she'd said that, but he wasn't wearing a hat, it was true. So at least that much would make sense.

"We'll save the introductions for afterwards. You'll be buying me a cognac."

And then it was time for some action. Viviana hadn't bothered to resheath her sabre and so it was still drawn. With the practiced grace of a Renaissance fencer she assumed an En Garde position and proceeded to aim a swift attack at Connor's gut. Patiently waiting his parry so she could perform a clever riposte.

"Well crud. That's a sword."

He frowned momentarily before tossing a quip back at the Frenchwoman. "Lady, you can have your cognac. I prefer rum."

And then she struck.

"Whoa, hey!" Is she trying to kill me!? Connor leaped back, hands scrabbling for the metal wrench hanging from the hammer loop on left pantleg. He had nothing but a tee shirt on, hardly armour. Eying the sword, he figured it was roughly three feet to his--he managed to yank the wrench out and glanced at it before returning focus to Viviana--one foot steel plumbing tool.

"Just...great." Oddly enough, he wasn't terrified, apprehensive maybe, but scared? Hell no. He was smiling. That sword wouldn't be the problem, long as it missed all those squishy internal organs.

So in the span of a couple seconds, Connor had leaped away and yanked free his 'weapon'. Now he stood a few more feet away, watching Viviana and ready to move should she immediately follow up on her attack. He didn't move apart from minute swaying and flexing his left hand, which held the wrench.

Waiting.

"Rum seems to be the flavour of the month. As long as you're buying the drink, mon ami, I'm not too worried what it is."

Her eyes watched as he leapt backwards out of her range. Unexpected, perhaps, but it couldn't be helped. Not everyone was a fencer after all. She eyed the wrench. Was this man a plumber? How odd!

On the surface, Viviana Merquise didn't really appear that much different to Connor. She too had no armor to speak of, just a nice white dress shirt and a red waist-coat, some plain white leggings, a linked chain belt and a pair of impressive looking black calvary boots. There were a pair of daggers visible. Sheathed at her left hip. But other than that, she appeared more attired for lunch in a Lord's court, rather than a fighting tournament.

Which is why her next movement was likely so surprising to both her opponent and the crowd. Her left hand slipped beneath the folds of her waist coat and in the blink of an eye withdrew three shurikens. She fanned them as if they were a set of playing cards and then sent each of them flying directly at Connor's face.

'Let's see 'ow useful wrenches are for blocking projectiles!' She thought to herself with a smile, taking two strides forward to close the gap between her and he once more. Sabre always extended before her at the ready.

And then the crowd went wild!

"Kar A-La-Gos! Kar A-La-Gos! Kar A-La-Gos!"

"Now she's a ninja? What is this!?"

The appearance of the shuriken saw Connor going wide-eyed and ducking. Viviana, however, caught him by surprise. Or maybe he just wasn't fast enough. He felt one brush past his hair and another tearing a neat gash in his cheek. Connor stood up straight, something akin to comic anger on his face as he clapped his free hand to the wound.

He felt that faint stirring of an all too familiar cold in his chest.

"...Pfft. Ow." He chucked the wrench at Viviana's chest. As much as he wanted to hurl it at her face, she'd probably just duck the same way Connor had. That was no good.

Face burning not with rage but with the smarting pain from the shuriken wound, Connor charged immediately after his thrown wrench. With that smile still on his face he planned on using his momentum and weight against the smaller woman.

To put it plain and simple, Connor was going to tackle Viviana, using the thrown wrench as a distraction.

Viviana watched in amazement as the man did not attempt to deflect her shurikens with his hefty wrench. Instead. He ducked. She blinked. None of this was proceeding how she expected it to at all. It was true, in her long life Commander Merquise had never fought a plumber, and perhaps this was where her problem really lied. Perhaps she should be getting out there and fighting with the salt of the earth. The carpenters and the butchers... rather than sparring with Drow and Ice Elementals.

It was food for thought. But she had no time for it now. The man had flung his wrench at her. Her eyes trained on it, watching it spin through the air, and as soon as it was within the range of her sabre

CLANG. She thrust the sword into its path and pushed it to her right to deflect it off course, away from her handsome dress shirt. Who knows what pipes that thing had wrenched lately. It looked dirty.

All this paying attention to the wrench was exactly what her opponent had wanted. By the time the Lamia's eyes focused on what was coming behind the weapon, Connor was already upon her.

"Ooomf" Was all she really had time for as Connor brought his full weight crashing into the Lamia's petite figure, sending her careening backwards to make contact with the marble floor beneath. The force of being knocked to the floor in a tackle worthy of a football match cause her to loose her grip on the sabre. The blade skittering away from her right hand.

She gritted her teeth.

Her left hand fumbled at her hip for a dagger.

WHUMP.

The two hit the ground and immediately Connor was grabbing at Viviana's arms and scrambling to pin her legs down with his own. The one thing he had to hate about fighting was going to ground and dealing with grapplers. When it came to that, he had no experience whatsoever. He had learned a bit though, and that bit told him: pin the limbs. If they have no leverage, it's near impossible to defend yourself on the ground.

Weren't those daggers on her hip? Ah hell. Grunting, Connor clamped his right hand around Viviana's left bicep, struggling against her movements as he reached for her right arm with his free hand. A shanking right now would be...more than a bit annoying.

"Hey! I always wondered..." He had a change of heart and clenched his left hand. He had her left pinned, maybe, surely that was enough to keep a dagger at bay. There was also the matter of what came next distracting her from the dagger.

He punched Viviana in the nose.

"Why do the french get to lay claim to vanilla!?" And he punched her again.

PostPosted: Sat Jun 12, 2010 11:35 pm

CRUNCH.

Connors fist made contact with Viviana's nose, it wouldn't be what one would consider a clean break. But then, nothing could be a clean break with Viviana Merquise.

SQUELCH.

After asking some absurd question about Vanilla he punched her again. Blood splattered all over his hand and the marble floor. Viviana thought about answering him, but really, she didn't have time to explain the intricacies of crème brûlée.

Her left arm was pinned for now. So the dagger was out of the question. It was time for her right hand to stop groping around for her sabre and join the fray. Viviana sent it flying straight towards Connors face, her fingers extended out like a claw and headed straight for his eyes.

Meanwhile, her legs decided to do some fancy footwork of their own. Her right knee came rocketing up toward Connor's tail bone with no small amount of force.

The Lamia's aim was to knock her assailant forward into her oncoming hand, and also off balance.

Should she succeed, she'd do what she did best. Use the newly acquired wiggle room to wriggle out of his grasp. She was a snake after all, and her anatomy was naturally inclined to squeeze its way out of tight spaces.

He had his left raised for another punch, readying another quip and then she kneed him in the back. Connor fell forward, mouth forming a grimace and grunting in surprise at the jolting pain.

This is why I hate fighting on the ground.

Not even bothering to salvage the situation, Connor scrambled off Viviana, kicking back at her head as he scrambled for her dropped sword, dirt sticking to the blood coating his hand. Whether or not Connor hit her didn't matter, he was rushing for her sabre and not caring about much else. Well, he really didn't want a knife in his back and didn't feel safe searching for his wrench. The irony of him using Viviana's weapon against wasn't lost on Connor.

If he managed to grab that sword Connor would spin to face Viviana with the weapon held in a awkward guard. It was clear he hadn't had much experience with a sabre.

He fully expected the frenchwoman to be on her feet and attacking with that dagger now that she was free of the short-lived pin.
