Character Name: S'kagi
Age: 21
Sexual Orientation:Straight (may consider experimenting but atm only thoroughly boozed up, or otherwise coaxed. Being hold born, he's a bit more uptight, but especially now he wants to fit in.)
Craft/Rank:Weaver Apprentice ((And lousy at it.))
History: There are a number of untoward rumors involving Saekagai's father, who equally conveniently happens to be missing. None of them ever affected Saekagi himself directly, since the man disappeared early in his memories, but if the grumbles and whispers bandied about hastily over cups of Klah by drudges and other women of the hold are true, the man turned nasty as soon as alcohol entered the picture, and he -liked- alcohol. Exactly how he came to no longer be in his son and wife's life is an matter of equally closed lips, and Sae himself doesn't actually know if the man was simply 'encouraged' to leave the hold or even outright the victim of silenced mob justice and buried somewhere around the grounds of the craft hall where he and his mother served and trained.
Unfortunately these rumors didn't make a particularly deep impression on Saekagi, who originally was searched at Ista Weyr. He immediately fell into the worst crowd possible, escaping the up tight lifestyle his mother had reared him in, and at every chance, getting into trouble... and alcohol, wherever he and his companions ((Many weyr born and with an unfortunate sense of entitlement)) could beg borrow or filtch it.
His behavior turned bad, fast, and there was debate of just packing him on home... which became even hotter after 'the incident'.
He wasn't unaware even of his father's bad reputation, but like many youths, he assumed that such things just didn't apply to him. After all, wasn't he special? Hadn't he been searched? Clearly he was nothing like his father. Or so he thought until, while drunk, he tried to steal a kiss from a disinterested drudge, and when she resisted, made a grab for her. In the resultant short, panicked scuffle... ((She was admittedly a nervous thing to begin with...)) She slashed open the side of his face repeatedly with a broken cup. Truth be told, a good slap might have done just as well, but it was an highly sobering moment for Saekagi on almost every level.
The girl was large in part alright, though her escape left her with a cracked wrist when she was abruptly let go and slammed into one of the tables, but Saekagi was in need of notable attention from the healers, and had come within a hairsbreadth of loosing an eye. He also plunged into a black depression, ashamed of his own behavior, and no longer blind to the resemblance to a man he grew up hating from vague stories told by his mother.
This deep shame and depression may have been a notable contributor to why he wasn't simply sent home as he expected to be, though he was quietly sent to Trine instead when his injuries healed enough for travel, especially after the girl came after him a second time, apparently a little unhinged by the experience.
Saekagai, having very little clear memory of the event, assumes only the worst about his behavior, and doesn't blame her, and has entirely sworn off ever drinking alcohol again if he can possibly avoid it.
His impression came as an overwhelming surprise, and S'kagi was one of those who broke down into tears on the sands, holding his beautiful dragon.
Description: Saekagai spends a lot of time trying to hide half of his face behind his somewhat long, thick black hair, trying and largely failing to hide the still red, mostly healed scars on his face. If he smiles, ((currently rarely)) it's lopsided, since a deep slash on the side of his mouth still aches, and twists his smile on that side anyway. His brown eyes are sincere, and are an open book to his emotions, which these days, are largely deeply depressed, cautious of hurting others, though occasionally he can be coaxed into warming up briefly, giving a small glimmer of the much more vibrant man he's capable of being. He shows signs in spite of the scars that he'll be handsome enough when he's fully an adult, though not as much as he could have been.
Personality: Saekagi occasionally shows glimpses of who he is, or was, capable of being. Warm, friendly, and occasionally politely flirty, he's a much different person sober than drunk, and at the moment, usually almost cripplingly depressed and deeply guilty. He loves a good cup of Klah, which is his current guilty pleasure.
He still loves the dragons, and is a bit jealous of the bonded and their unconditional affection and completeness, especially feeling so keenly aware of his own shortcomings, though he's admittedly not at all fond of the craze for flits as pets, since he figures they mostly get into trouble, and he can do that well enough on his own.
He's not embarrassed to have come from a hold, though he is sheepish about lacking his mothers almost magical skills in the craft, feeling as though he somehow failed in this also by not picking it up on it with her legendary ease, but he does have a need to excel, and now more than ever, to both follow the rules himself and make sure others follow them also. Isn't he a good enough example?
Although his scars will also follow him until his dying day, he's equally determined not to ever allow a similar incident to happen on his watch, and has no patience with the inebriated, who can count themselves to be reported to authority at the first sign of trouble, and even less patience for signs of abuse, an already unlikely affair in close knit Holds and Weyrs.
As he heals mentally and physically, these traits will show more and more, though he'll likely never fully get past random rounds of depression and guilt, his sense of duty and the driving need to apologize by his actions, (an desire he'll never feel is completely fulfilled) will be the force that allow him to keep going, even in the darkest of moods, and he'll lean on others to temper him from going to extremes on the other end of the spectrum as the mistake he made during his candidacy.
Other: old art:
Saekagi by Ryugen-
Saekagi by Demon Pachabel --------------
Coming from the craft halls, Saekagi is actually surprisingly bad at what he was apprenticed in, and can make one hell of a mess with the loom, though he grew up watching his skilled mother weave incredible patterned cloth, the art seems to be just beyond him.
Although straight, and hold born, Saekagi might actually be coaxed into 'experimenting'. He's distressed, lonely, and wants to fit in. Someone offering comfort may be able to play on this, deliberately or otherwise, to get him to go further than he previously might have. How this would play out in the long run would depend on the RP.
