Rosetta Stone (there you go) is used by government officials all the time to learn new languages. That, and I know someone that used it to learn Italian. She said it was great, and she did speak much better Italian than I ever managed.

I've used Rosetta to learn Latin, and have had a friend who used it while she was in the Navy to learn Korean. It worked for her really well, but not for me at all. It's worth the investment only if you're going to actually have some discipline while learning it; that means at least an hour a day.

It's not good for a very well formated understanding, but it does work for a buisness-level type. In other words, you could communicate, but not extreamly well.

I used Rosetta Stone to learn both French and Spanish and it worked for me.

I actually had the Japanese version, and it worked very very well. You learn very fast, and it's just as effective as they advertise. The only this is; it's expensive. But if you can afford it, and really want to lose the language, it's highly recommended by me.

However I can't speak Japanese so don't ask me. xD I got too lazy to continue with it, and I ended up Christmasing it to a cousin. sweatdrop
