Who: Doucette and Ripley Where: The Movie Theater When: It's an all day movie marathon! (But we're only showing up in the afternoon...) Weather: Sun is a bit on the glaring side
The paper corners fluttered briefly as a small breeze picked up and moved on. Only the white-knuckle clench upon the flier had prevented it from soaring off on some whirlwind journey. Upon it was a large white castle covered in spires and frosting-like beauty and a number of dates and times and shadowy figures of faces from famous and well beloved visual adventures. Doucette had been planning on attending the all-day Disney Movie Marathon for weeks, maybe even months now. She couldn't remember quite when she'd gotten the flier, but there hadn't even been a consideration about whether or not she would attend.
But that had been before the phone call from her mother.
Now Doucette worried about what would happen, sitting in a movie theater alone while she had some mysterious person out to get her. Movie theaters were dark. Movie theaters were good places to plan and execute abductions.
Her hands clenched again at the thought, the sides of the paper helplessly ruined by creases at this point. There would be no scrap booking with this souvenir.
Blue gaze swept up from the paper and squinted at the nail salon in front of her. Was she crazy to be doing this? Maybe. A hundred names had filtered through her mind about who she thought would be the best to invite along. She'd even considered Rivener before she'd considered Ripley. But there were more pros to inviting Ripley than anyone else she knew, and it was honestly only a bonus that he was a tough looking guy.
The Irish woman wasn't looking for someone to be a bodyguard though. She didn't think she could rise to that level of "using" someone without having an emotional war with herself. Ripley would be invited because he shared her love of cartoon movies. He was just so-happening to also be a bit of a deterrent as well. The likelihood of Liam making his appearance at the movie theater was slim-to-none, but she wasn't sure she wanted to take her minimal chances and roll the gamble on them.
Yes. Ripley was perfect. She was glad she'd called ahead and asked Rong Wei if the "date" was ok, though the woman was probably going to be glad to have a day to herself without the electric raevan hanging about. Now Doucette just had to will her feet to move into the salon and face Ripley himself.
Somehow she managed to propel herself forward and soon found herself standing like a docile kitten in the entrance area, grinning a bit too brightly and waiting for them to take notice of her if they hadn't already.

"You're going to be fine with Doucette, so long as you keep your hands off her. I'd almost say I'm begging you not to do anything at all to her since she invited you along, but I have this odd feeling you'll treat her just right."
Rong Wei was filling the small washer near the back of the store with a load of towels, the lid slamming down as she reached and turned the knob to get it started. A few stray towels she'd overlooked before of their color were kicked out of the way and to the side as she tried to shuffle herself out, the light getting clicked off as she closed the door. Ripley was floating just a little out in front and to her left, his customary frown on his lips, but he didn't say anything in response to the woman's accusations. Instead he almost seemed to want to will her on into continuing, which she happily obliged him with.
"She'll make sure you get to the theater and back just fine so if you stay with her you won't get lost. You know her so. . . .I'm not going to say you can trust her or anything. I know how you feel about humans."
"Not all humans in general, just more or less how I feel about you. Please don't fool yourself into thinking something else might be different and you're not special."
Ripley moved to the side as Rong Wei glared and him and stomped out into the main area of the building, her eyes scanning the tables to see if she'd missed anything else. It just so happened she had, more specifically Doucette standing at the door, and Rong Wei whistled to get her Raeven's attention. Ripely was taking his sweet time floating out but hurried at the sound of the whistle, most likely because he felt resentment at being summoned by a whistle. He was about to open his mouth and say something when he too saw the woman, and his 'business smile' (as Rong Wei called it) spread over his face.
"Hello Doucette. Thank you for inviting me to join you today, I've been looking forward to it. I'm ready to leave whenever you're keen to go, so shall we get a move on?"

Doucette grinned brightly up at the Egyptian Raevan, fiddling with the little flier that had begun the whole adventure into the idea that there might be someone to enjoy the movies with. It simply wasn't the same when you went alone, and there'd been that huge fuss when she'd attempted to take Dolce and Gabby. Really, they could have passed for seeing eye dogs if the man had just accepted her little bribe...then again, it was quite a little bribe, perhaps that had been the problem to begin with.
The woman's freckled faced clouded over with mild confusion as she momentarily got lost within her own tangled and rambling thoughts, but she quickly shook her head, rough tangles of curls bobbing to and fro, and motioned with her hand towards the door at Ripley's words. "Oh, yes, I'm quite ready." Doe beamed, all white teeth and dimples as she held open the door for the man out of sheer politeness.
After the Raevan had slipped past the threshold the redhead shot an apologetic grin at Rong Wei. Of course the invitation had been extended mainly to Ripley (being that he seemed considerably more interested in Disney films than Rong Wei was), but the guardian was more than welcome to come along if she felt nervous over Doucette's protective abilities. "We wont be gone long I suspect, and I've left my phone on vibrate if there's some emergency you need to contact me about." Doe colored slightly in the cheeks, remembering she'd already mentioned all this before.
Somehow she wasn't sure how to approach the whole event. It wasn't a date or some babysitting mission, and she could hardly count Ridley as a friend, but here they were, going out to the movies together for half the day.
With a little bob of her head and another quick glance at Rong Wei, Doucette slipped out of the door and moved next to Riley. "Have you ever been to the movies before?" she asked, steering him in the direction of the theater complex and attempting to convince her mouth not to water over the thought of a large bucket of popcorn.

Rong Wei didn't even bat an eye as the pair left, not that Ripley expected her to, and instead went back to doing whatever it was she'd been planning on completing for the day. Her movements appeared to be a lot happier though, at least to Ripley as he looked over to see if she even cared, and he inwardly frowned at how she didn't even try to mask her delight at him leaving. A stupid woman would find herself in a bad situation when he returned, and that thought amused the Frei - enough that he actually smiled. It was a brief smile that barely even registered on his face so there was a high probability that the human woman at his side would not have noticed. Ripley doubted she was looking that close anyway.
When Doucette actually started talking directly to him again, asking about the movies, his brain had to focus its attention whatever he was thinking on and back to her. Manners would need to be used since he was the guest along this route even if Rong Wei had given him money to spend on tickets and whatever else a person got at the theater. Seeing as he was unable to eat or drink, snacks were out of the question.
"Rong Wei doesn't take me out into closed, public places. She said she doesn't want me interrupting her movies or running the risk of someone getting upset over me doing something. Hardly fair, I think."
There was likely much, much more to that story than what Ripley was willing to share, but then again he didn't feel the need to explain himself to a human. Even if she was taking him somewhere and was being nice to him, she was still below an explanation at this point in time. Besides, he was certain she'd figure out his special little 'talent' as soon as they got in and the lights started to flicker. Would the movie be able to successfully play with him in there? He didn't know.
"Do you know what movies will be playing? I spent a good deal of yesterday re-watching a few of them to make sure I knew the plots well enough. I don't want to go in blind to it since I don't want to have to talk during it with questions."

Doucette's lips twisted into a puckered little frown as he spoke, but she nodded along all the same. No, that didn't really sound fair to her, but then, Ripley wasn't hers and it wasn't like she knew the Egyptian frei very well to begin with. Best to keep her opinions to herself despite the slightly ominous way he referred to Rong Wei. Doe wasn't worried at all that Ripley might not behave himself. It was a movie theater for heaven's sake! What kind of shenanigans would he be able to get up to in that circumstance? Movies were meant to be watched and enjoyed, and not knowing that he wasn't able to eat or drink she was already contemplating how popcorn and big gulps of coke kept everyone content and quiet.
"Oh! Hmmm, let me check," she said, digging around in her hobo-sack inspired purse, grumbling as she pushed aside all sorts of odds and ends as she rumpled around for the piece of paper with the movie listings on them. "If I remember correctly, they're trying to do it in chronological order, so I guess we've missed the older ones like Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella." Doucette had a feeling that Ripley would not count those as a true loss. He did not seem the type to be overly concerned about prince charmings.
Triumphantly, and with a dark mutter to her purse about it's impending clean-up, Doe pulled the little piece of paper from her purse and quickly scanned down to the times they'd be arriving for. "It looks like Hercules, Mulan, and The Emperor's New Groove," the redhead said as she held out the paper to him in case he was interested in looking at it and the movies that would continue to play after those. "How do they sound?"

"Sounds wonderful. Rong Wei has all of these movies in her collection so I can rewatch them again should I find the noise to be too distracting, though I'm certain it will lack the flair that comes with viewing something in a theater. Her house does not have that wide screen I keep hearing about."
It was funny to think that a hardass like Rong Wei would have all the Disney movies out there. . . but when you thought about the fact that she had younger relatives to entertain often it made sense. Tamora and her siblings were at the age when movies mattered and they needed easy distraction, not to mention Ripley was still sort of at that age as well. If he wasn't then why would he be going to a theater full of children with a stranger?
Point made.
After a bit of walking, and perhaps taking a bus or a taxi, the pair arrived at the theater and Ripley glanced around, the surroundings unfamiliar and his nerves playing with him already. Should his human companion walk off and leave him he would be useless on his own, something that caused a drip of chill to run down his half-back.
"Where do we get tickets? Rong Wei suggested earlier that as the gentleman, I should pay for your way as well."
She hadn't, but Ripley was testing something.

The redhead grinned over at Ripley as they walked and chatted, her shoulders shrugging a bit from time to time or her head nodding along with whatever he was discussing. "Oh yes, the screens are quite nice here. Really gives you a new experience. I do hope the kids aren't too chatty though. You really never know with them after all." One of the many reasons kids and Doucette didn't mesh well; they were too unpredictable. Well, she knew that the raevans were technically kids, but all the ones she'd met had been fairly on the mature side, and none of them actually looked like kids!
"Hmmm, tickets are over that way and the popcorn and drinks are a bit further in. I suppose we could split up and cut the time in half but..." A worried glance was given to Ripley for a moment, her eyes distant and deep in thought before she checked the time and shook her head with a smile, "Nah, we're good enough on time we don't have to worry about it. And that's very kind of you to offer Ripley but since you're my guest at my invitation I'll take care of the fees."
Doucette pushed through the crowds before Ripley, checking to make sure he was behind her every few minutes and not getting swept away with the enthusiasm the other movie-goers were displaying.
