It was a cold peaceful night with a full moon sparkling in the air. The ocean reflected the light and crashed against the rocky shore. Two young notorious mages bore a child with silver hair and dark skin. They named the boy Itami Asui, meaning "Pain Ice", as hair was silver like ice and his eyes were gray as loneliness and pain. The Asui family were relatively wealthy, having the mother been born into a rich nobles family. With all the money in the world, their son was privileged greatly and received special training. This allowed him to surpass most peers and therefore became envied. His parents however were more feared then envied, since it was well known that they were dangerous people. They funded experimentation, war, and crooked laws. One of the experiments funded was of a rare specimen creature with unique abilities. Itami's parents allowed her to interact with their son. She was given the name Katya Maly, and became one of the few friends Itami had....
"Katya!!! WHERE ARE YOU!!! ITS DINNER TIME!!", Itami screamed out outside. He ran all around the mansion with a simple robe and sandals. An odd attire for a child. "There you are! Hurry up. Mama isn't patient when it comes with dinner time...lets go already!"

Katya never looked at Itami as someone from another race. She was too young to know the difference, despite all the times that Itami's parents tried to tell them they were not siblings. She loved him as a brother and nothing less. But no matter how much she loved Itami, she couldnt shake the feeling that the sea was calling to her. She loved it, everything about it... But her life was on land and there was nothing she could do about it. She wasnt allowed to go to the ocean... Itamis parents wouldnt allow it for fear that she would leave. They had spent too much money for her to just leave.
Katya heard Itami call for her but she decided to wait for him to come to her. Finally he found her. "Isnt it beautiful the way the moon reflects on the ocean tonight, Itami?" She said to him. She was saddened for a moment but quickly hid it when she remembered that Itami was with her. Its almost feels as though its calling me.. She thought but didnt mention to Itami, she didnt want to worry him. He was her only friend and she didnt want him worrying about her.
"Come on Itami, we should go to dinner." She said with a smile and they headed towards the dinning room.

They reached the dining hall and feasted on well cooked food prepared by top chefs. Itami noticed Katya's eyes were distant, as if daydreaming about something. Her expression was somewhat depressed, like she was missing something essential. He also noticed her enthusiasm when they visited the ocean. He shrugged it off, thinking it was harmless, although still troubled by the fact she may belong somewhere else. He got up, took Katya's hand, and lead her outside. "Ok sis, tell me whats wrong", he said with worried eyes.

The food was good... But something was off.... Something was always off when it came to food for her and she failed to notice that Itami had noticed her daydreaming... when he lead her outside and asked her what was wrong, she was unprepared to answer the question. She racked her young mind for a good lie... She hugged Itami and said to him "Brother, thank you for worrying but nothing is wrong." She smiled wide. Oh how she wished that she could tell him what was on her mind. She would consider it since he was her best friend, she could trust him.... She decided that she would wait for the perfect moment to tell him. But for now she couldnt. Instead she hugged him and assured him that nothing was wrong and took one last look at the sea before leading him back into the house. Thats it... Ill tell him... Not now... but soon...
How long could she wait? She was dreaming about the sea, caught herself thinking about it constantly and studying everything everything she could about it. She was in love with the ocean...

They arrived back in the mansion to be intercepted by Itami's father. He held Itamis eyes and said with a clear voice, "Its about time you learned how to do magic. Itami, you will be busy for the next few days. Starting tomorrow morning, I will bring you into my studies for you to study and learn about the wonderful dark arts. Run along now." His father was known as an important mage, always busy in his studies or at some lords resident.
Itami was interested in magic, since his parents talked a great deal about how it changes the world. He wanted to be a mage ever since magic was introduced to his young mind. The Asui family was especially masters of water/ice magic. Their bloodline possessed special unknown powers few people got to witness. It was kind of already decided that Itami would continue his family tradition and become a powerful mage. With that, his father walked away and left Katya and Itami daydreaming. He snapped into reality and checked the time. Sleeping time sis. Sweet dreams, he said after running off to his private room.

Katya took her time in walking back to her room... He's going to learn magic later.. She didnt know how to feel about this... Should she be happy for him? She decided that she should but she worried... Itami's dad wasnt the best person in the world. Although she had no doubt that Itami was going to be a great mage, she couldnt help but worry that the magic might change him into someone like his father. Itami was destined for greatness but she hoped that he would still be the great person he is now.
Katya walked to her room and sat in front of her window to look out at the sea again. I wish I knew where I belong like Itami. In order to suppress these useless feelings she began to sing a song. It was a sad song about a sailor loosing his way and then finding himself again, only to discover that he had found himself in heaven. She sang absentmindedly, she had learned the song from a book in the library and forced herself to learn to sing it perfectly. Only when her eyes began to close did she decide to go to bed. Goodbye... She thought to the miles and miles of beauty, perfect blue and all the animals that live in it. Her heart, despite her best intentions, hoped to be a part of it one day. As she layed down and tried to sleep, she thought of Itami and how happy she was for him to have a place...

Itami woke up sweaty and heart pumping. He had a strange nightmare about failing all his loved ones because he couldn't get strong enough. That was his greatest fear...He got out of bed and stretched, trying to calm himself and slow his heartbeat. When that was settled, he made his way to Katya's room and knocked on the door. No response. Sis may still be asleep, or maybe just not in the room...
He went downstairs and saw his father reading a newspaper and his mother cooking breakfast. The kitchen smelled of eggs, bacon, and pancakes. Itami's stomach grumbled and he asked his mother if the food was ready. "Not yet honey. Come back in 10 minutes", she said without turning her face from the stove. He decided to go outside and look at the ocean.
It was a beautiful sunny day in the empire. After sitting in a clear spot with a good view, Itami daydreamed about the ocean and hummed to himself. He imagined swimming in the ocean, the clear fresh water. One day, he swore he would take his sister swimming for hours. He could tell it was one of her dreams. Itami smiled at the thought of bringing her swimming that same very day. Maybe thats what she needs...water...

When Katya awoke at dawn the first thing she did was watch the sun rise over the ocean. She didnt think about anything. Just the sun and the ocean becoming one for those few minutes. When this was over she walked downstairs and found Itamis mother making breakfast. She said good morning then hurried off to the library to study. She thought herself everything she wanted to know. About all the different Empires, the terrain of each, the ocean, the sirens, animals, anything. Today she decided that she would learn a little about magic. That way she could understand when Itami talked to her about it. When she was finished, she went to look for Itami. She found him outside looking at the ocean. She silently sat next to him and watched the waves crash along the shore.
Katya didnt say anything, just watched the ocean next to her best friend. Finally she spoke, "Isnt it beautiful, Itami?" She decided to tell him about her feelings. She looked at him and said, "I love it, Itami, i feel like it calls to me..."

Itami barely noticed Katya before she said anything. He listened to her words and nodded. Its exactly what I thought....she wants to be in the ocean. Ok! Then its settled!, he thought but didn't say out loud. After she finished, he grinned and took her hand. You know how to swim? Doesn't matter, lets go in the ocean for a quick swim. I know you want to. But quietly...here I know a spot. He led her to an opening to the ocean. It was hidden behind trees and bushes, but wasn't too far away from the mansion. There was a sandy shore with dozens of shells. It was vacant, so they had the place to themselves.
Itami noticed her smile and grinned at her before running across the sand and slamming into the water. The ocean had cool water, but Itami was warmed by the sun and the hot sand. It was a little windy, but it didn't matter. The moment was to awesome to care about anything but fun. How does it feel to swim for the first time Katya? he asked with a smile.

Katya was stunned, its as if Itami had read her mind. She was so incredibly happy, she couldnt believe it... Tears were gathering in her eyes at just the thought of swimming for the first time. And with Itami! There is no other way she would have wished for this moment to be like. She went up to the water and walk to Itami, submerging herself as she walked. She was delighted by the way the water felt against her skin, she was in shock... When she got to Itami, she jumped on him and hugged him with all the love in her heart. "Brother, you just gave me the greatest gift anyone will ever give me. Thank you so much.." Tears streamed down her face as she said this and she hugged him again saying "Thank you.." over and over again...
Finally, she went under the water completly and began to swim. Immediately she knew, she was born to swim. She just let herself be taken by the tide and enjoyed the feel of the water and the sun against her skin, she never wanted to leave, but she knew she had to. They needed to get back to their house before Itami's parents got worried. She walked back to the shore and layed out on the sand. She knew that she would never be happier than she was in that moment, with Itami, laying wet on the sand and soaking up sun, both of them having just gotten out of the water. It was clear to her at that moment that she belonged in the water...

Itami was delighted that Katya was enjoying her self more then she ever had in her life. It surprised Itami that she instantly knew how to swim, while it took him years of practice. It was obvious she belonged in the water. Itami struggled to keep up with her when they swam from place to place. After a while, they went on the sandy shore. It was one of the best moments Itami had in a while. He looked up at the sun and noticed it was about an hour later.
Worry flooded him. No, they wont be out looking for us will they? Wait, don't I have magic practice? Oh no...no..no..we need to leave. Itami took Katya by the hand and gave her a worried look. I promise ill take you here again, but we need to leave. My father is probably looking for me. Are you ready? He didn't wait for her to answer. Itami led Katya back the way they came from, about a five minute walk to the mansion. They made it there in three minutes and went in the house, breathing heavily. Itami's father and mother were in the kitchen, talking about politics.
Itami whispered to Katya, "Ok, im going in the kitchen. According to them, we were outside playing some...um ..tag. If I get in trouble, stay in your room and pretend to be asleep. Ok?"

Katya didnt even notice the worry in Itamis eyes until he took her hand. "Ok Itami..." Was all she could get out as he rushed her to the mansion. As they reached the mansion she looked at him worriedly as he told her to go to her room. "Im sorry Itami, i didnt want you to get into trouble.."Her eyes welled up with tears as she quietly ran up to her room. She hated herself for potentially getting Itami into trouble but now there was nothing she could do except what he had told her so she climbed into her bed and pretended to be asleep just in case. While she was pretending, she feel asleep.
When she awoke it was late and if Itami had come back she didnt know. He hadnt woken her up, not even for dinner. She got up out of bed and quietly made her way to Itamis room. She didnt bother to knock for fear that she might wake someone up. She slipped into his room and found him sleeping, she shook him awake, "Itami, you never came back. What happened?" she asked him with worried eyes.

Itami tried not to looks into Katyas eyes as she awoke him. Tear streaks dirtied his face but his gray eyes revealed nothing. Itami cleared his throat and attempted a reassuring smile at Katya. "Oh..I umm..forgot. Nothing major" he said in a toneless voice.
He knew Katya wouldn't believe this..she was too smart for that. He struggled to decide whether to tell her the truth or to attempt a lie and spar her feelings. Itami couldn't bring himself up to lieing to her, so he looked into her eyes for the first time with confidence.
"Before I tell you this, I don't want you to feel guilty whatsoever. Well, I went to speak with father but he was enraged for me showing up late. Punishment was...well....". He took off his shirt and showed her a few deep scars and marks. "But on a good note, I got to witness magic first hand. It was really wonderful Katya! Tomorrow I will be starting my lessons. I..cant be late this time...but i promise i'll take you to the ocean again." He smiled at her and looked into her eyes, waiting for her reply.

Katya was speechless as her eyes filled with tears of sadness and rage. How could he do something like this?! She couldnt believe that Itami's father had done something so horrid and that his mother had sat aside, knowing that her husband was so cruelly punishing their son. She was filled with thoughts of hate and revenge but she didnt let her thoughts show, she wasnt going to allow Itami to see her like this. She was mad at herself for keeping him out and causing him to be punished and she was mad at his parents for punishing him like this but in no way, shape, or form was she mad at Itami. She felt so bad and wished with everything inside her that they had punished her instead of him and the way he continued to try to protect her despite everything warmed her heart and made her more mad at the same time because someone with such a big heart had been punished in this way. Instead of feeding these hateful feelings she decided the best thing to do was just let it go for now.
"Im so sorry Itami, this is all my fault... You wont have to worry about getting into trouble over me again.... I.. Ive decided that if going to the ocean causes you pain in any form then I wont go anymore... It pained her to say this but it pained her even more to see him like this. She didnt wait for his reply, she wiped the tears from his face and layed down next to him, pulling him into her arms and stayed like that for the rest of the night. She didnt sleep that night, she couldnt. Thoughts of Itami and his wounds filled her mind every time she closed her eyes, making her want to cry, instead she layed with him while he slept. She got up just before dawn so that no one would know that she had stayed in Itami's room and quietly made her way back to her room and sat in front her window to watch the sun rise. Once the sun was up and it was an appropriate time to be awake, she went down to the library to bury herself in her books...

Itami woke up with a sore body. He didn't want Katya to feel bad, so he tried reassuring her that it was fine. Unfortunately, she didn't listen and refused to leave his room. He was grateful that she was so concerned, but felt guilty for excluding her out. It seemed Katya didn't want him to get hurt anymore, and probably would've taken the blame. He wasn't going to allow it. Nor was he going to keep her away from the ocean.
Presently, the time is a bit risky to go to the ocean...but...it doesn't matter. If father punishes me again, so be it. I can't see my sister so unhappy. Where..did she go? He looked around his room. She probably left while he was still asleep. Itami stretched, prepared himself for the day with a shower and change of clothes, and set out for Katya. He found her reading in the library a few minutes later. When he walked in, she didn't so much as look up. Maybe from anger, maybe from guilt, Itami wasn't sure. He walked up to Katya and sat down by her, carefully looking at her and thought of the right words to say.
She continued reading. "Katya... look at me", he said with a serious expression. He shifted a little and muttered the spell Mizugijutsu number 1: create. After quickly placing his palms together and slowly separating them, a few liters of water formed and levitated between his hands. He smiled and played with the water using his magic. The water moved from place to place, going all about the room in various speeds and forms. Itami was naturally gifted in magic, and already could perform spells by simply witnessing it and hearing the words.
He drank a few gulps of the water before freezing it. Another odd thing about him was the mastery of his family's special power in just a few hours. He spent all of yesterday practicing and training with the spell and his abilities. His magic level could've been compared an average magic user despite the young age. Itami smiled and looked into Katyas eyes, waiting for her words.
