Into the Unknown

It has been thirty years since the destruction of the first DEATH STAR at Yavin IV, and the GALACTIC FEDERATION OF FREE ALLIANCES remains an unsteady newly formed government. Since the destruction wrought by the YUUZHAN VONG WAR vast populations of refugees require resettlement. With a lack of worlds willing to take in such populations the GALACTIC FEDERATION OF FREE ALLIANCES have hired the CZERKA CORPORATION to find worlds suitable for colonization in the vast and unexplored UNKNOWN REGIONS.

Nervous about reports of dangerous activity on the edge of known space. Both the HIGH COUNCIL and GALACTIC EMPIRE have dispatched ambassadors to the exploration teams to keep their governments up to date on the exploration efforts under way.

In the UNKNOWN REGIONS a wide variety of threats await the exploration ships. One ship, the modified Loronar E-9 Scout Clear Skies based out of the modified Nebulon B frigate Walkabout has taken the lead in finding worlds available for colonization and is about to discover that more then empty planets exist beyond the rim.

RULES

General Game Management Rules and Hierarchy:
1. Listen to the Game Master hereafter referred to as the GM and follow his advice, do not complain if the GM does damage to your character or rejects your profile. His word is law and can only be overruled by a majority decision of the moderators.

2. Listen to all moderators and voice all complaints about the GM to them, only they can overrule the GM: Nelowulf, Cale Darksun, Darkened Angel and Elladan Kenet. This axiom also applies to any whom may be promoted to mod-ship during the course of the RP. They have higher authority than you or I in such matter.

3. Guild rules and GAIA TOS must be followed ALWAYS.

Character Types and Their Use:
1. Characters are divided into four separate classes. Player-characters (PCs), Non-player-characters (NPCs), Game-master-player-characters (GMPCs), and Opposing Forces (OPFOR).

2. PCs must conform to following the BIO format when submitted. It is against the rules to puppet a PC unless the two parties have agreed to such an arrangement. If so please keep any PMs in case of a dispute. PCs are cannot be auto-hit, but this isn't to say that the Game Master can't intervene and force damage if PCs have managed to avoid an inordinate number of attacks.

3. NPCs are characters generated by the normal role-playing of Player Characters, they can include the PC's friends, allies, superiors, subordinates, and named extras. They too cannot auto-hit their target, Players who created NPCs should not be inordinately concerned with their safety unless they are required for the Player's plot, in which case it is best if the Game-master is informed of this requirement to avoid their loss. It is normally acceptable for one PC to puppet another character's NPC if the other PC is not present in the encounter. Due to the nature of this RP NPC allies are going to be significantly rarer then in other RPs simply due to the smaller scale involved.

4. GMPCs are Player Characters controlled by the GM. These are normally characters vital to the entire plot of the RP and act as guides, commanders, opponents, and mentors for player characters. Often times a GM will create GMPCs in positions to allow them to help direct PCs toward the plot outlined by the GM. GMPCs should be obeyed as though they were the Game Master himself, think of them as in-game versions of the game master.

5. OPFOR are the opponents to the players in RP, ranging from Chiss rogues, Ssi-Ruuk soldiers, to the unknown alien you're hailed by. They represent all NPCs with which the character may have hostile dealings (Note the MAY in this sentence, some diplomacy may convince them to leave you be, or even ally with you). Unlike PCs they can auto-hit players under controlled circumstances. Additionally they are controlled by the Game Master most of the time.

Combat Rules:
1. Auto-Hits are prohibited. The penalty of conducting an auto-hit is quite simple, you get auto-hit in turn. This is because conducting an auto-hit is the in-game equivalent of becoming target-fixated, by becoming target fixated you are vulnerable to the enemy picking you off.

2. Be willing to take injuries and casualties, but you don't need to die. Personal weapons in star wars are primarily plasma based blasters, which if you think about it have neither mass nor penetrating power. Expect to get burnt but not necessarily get killed. Think how many blaster scorches the 501st troopers in Survivor's Quest had on their armor before they were rendered ineffective, and none of them died. Plus we have a doctor, give him something to do. Being wounded on an alien planet far from the ship opens up a wide variety of role-playing options, investigate them.

BIO Submission Format and Character Design Rules:

Both force users and non-force users use the same BIO format. All BIOs must be approved by me, the Game Master, before the player may post in the RP. I am quite restrictive in what I will and will not allow to appear in your bio or on your person. For example: if you are not a Mandalorian do not expect to wear any Beskar, if you aren't a jedi or similarly trained individual you will not wield a lightsaber.

All posts are expected to be in a 3rd Person POV with literate writing, think of it as a novel being fashioned communally. I also like to have BIOs for ships larger than starfighters with a role in the RP, they are characters of a sort after all.

Short History: Captain Jarsa Altmann has done it all. Born 19 years before the Battle of Yavin on Ord Mantell, Jarsa has had an interesting existence since then. He had a fairly plan childhood, but signed up to join the Sector Rangers on his eighteenth birthday. Ironically enough he had barely finished going through his training when Emperor Palpatine was killed. Still he did his job out on the rim, apprehending criminals, pirates, and smugglers.

Then Coruscant fell and every sector ranger across the galaxy was given a choice, to stay with the Empire or join the newly formed New Republic Security Forces. Jarsa took a third option, resigned his commission and joined up with a former Imperial Survey Corps pilot to form a small exploration company.

It wasn't long before a nasty crash cost his partner his life and left him nearly broke. He found the Loronar E9 Scout sitting in a used starship dealer's lot on Ord Mantell and bought it with the few credits left to his name. He named the ship Clear Skies in the hope of bringing good luck and fortune to his future.

Such things never seem to work out that way. After a few trade runs in the outer rim to get a feel for the ship the Clear Skies suffered its first major breakdown while he was on approach to land on Bestine. The drive cut out and the ship dove into the drink like it belonged there. It took him just over two months to get the ship functional again and burned through what little earnings he'd had with the ship.

Desperate, he signed up with the New Republic Scout Service for a stable paycheck sighting his work as an independent surveyor a few years earlier. Accepted, he and his ship were sent off into the unknown regions on a series of mapping expeditions.

He kept up this work until the Vong War derailed the New Republic. With his stable earning gone he contracted his services to Czerka corporation. Now, with the GFFA looking to find unclaimed planets out in the Unknown Regions, he's found himself working for a third galactic government.

Description: A lean man with graying hair and a trimmed beard, Jarsa uses a loose ensemble of equipment that he's picked up from a wide variety of sources. As a sector ranger he was extensively trained in various martial arts, the years have little affected his skills there or deadened his aim.

Short History:Born the child of Immigrants to Asation in the Gree Enclave, Qual was one of the few Selkath who escaped Enslavement by the Empire. Showing potential in the force, however, members of the Order of Shasa tracked him down and eventually found Qual studying XenoMedicine and Life sciences at the University of Sanbra. There, in secret, he was trained in the Order's ways and completed his training by crafting his Fira on Pilgrimage to his species' homeworld.

Once he received his doctorate at Sanbra, Qual began a lifelong quest to return Manaan and her people to the prominence they once held in the galaxy by experimenting with Kolto. He has joined several scouting teams heading into the Unknown Regions, hoping to find some component that can further improve Kolto and allow it to be mass produced on a scale to compete with Inferior Bacta. What this meant for Czerka was that he was an experienced field medic and Scientist, a perfect recruit for their latest expedition.

Description: A Green Skinned Selkath male, standing 1.7 meters tall wearing a Blue and Black Environmentally sealed Jumpsuit with black gloves and boots. He is rarely seen without his Triscanner and speaks basic with a deep, dry voice bereft of an accent.

When not studying his findings and samples, experimenting, or logging reports, he practices dueling with his Fira, though he rarely takes the weapon into the field. He views Jedi in the same light as a church going christian would view a Jehovahs witness, as in he views them as preachy, annoying recruiters for an arcane belief.

Nickname: Though he finds nicknames completely aggravating, he's been often called Doc and Green.

Short History: Born and raised on Duro, Dendis had always shown a remarkable intellect, matched only by his disinclination to use make use of it. His father, dissapointed by his son's lazy and carefree manner, was finally driven over the edge when Dendis announced that he wanted to become a musician instead of following in his scientist father's footsteps. In order to not let his son stray, he sent him off to study science and medicine on Coruscant. This didn't put Dendis off, though. On Coruscant, the young Dr. Kob's easygoing manner was stronger than ever. His love for music led him to master the Red Ball Jet Organ, which he became mildly renowned for in the Coruscant club scene. It was during this time that he met the love of his life: Reda Koorba, a Duros girl like no other. Just as Dendis' life was at an all time high, he lost the one thing that he cherished above all else: Reda. One night, in celebration of Dendis' scientific studies culminating, Reda was momentarily lost in the crowd. Dendis finally found her, passionately latched on to a hardy Duros spacer, who was taking Reda away, with promises of "all the stars in the galaxy." Soon after, the new couple's departing ship had a mysterious technical fault and exploded after leaving orbit. Dendis, meanwhile, drank his carefree attitude to death. He wasted away under years of science and study, until a pivotal moment for him in the Yuuzhan Vong War called him to save the one thing left for him: his home planet. After the taking of Duro by Nom Anor, Dr. Kob joined the New Republic, and later the Galactic Alliance, to put his talents to good use. Now, with the war over, and Duro off to a new beginning, Dendis found himself with not much to do, until the GA gave him a request he honestly was not expecting.

Short History: Born in 10BBY, Zaehyn was born and raised by a notable family on Kiffu. Had it been but a decade sooner, he would have been noticed by the Jedi Watchmen of the system almost immediately, but instead he was to become a Guardian, but that did not alter his eventual fate with the Force. His Force sensitivity manifested wholly when the boy was still young, but this was kept a secret by his family. They had him receive training from a Jedi who had been a family friend for a long time in return for a time of sanctuary. In this time, he was taught but the basics, and the skills to hide himself in the Force were stressed. When the Jedi was finally forced to leave, he did so only after the boy was able to understand enough to train himself further, though only rudimentarily. After years of belittling his presence the act eventually became second nature, he found ways to train his sensitivity otherwise, finding that he had a remarkable amount of influence over animals and his environment, he even befriended some from time to time, much to the disdain of his parents. The development of his psychometry had been a subject since the manifestation of his abilities, though it still particularly disturbed him for years to come.

Once becoming a full Guardian, Zaehyn's unique abilities gave him an edge, even as sparsely trained as he was with them. He quickly ascended to the rank of Hunter, a Kiffu Guardian with the job of tracking down outlaws and criminals throughout the Sector. He was a natural predator, and became known as 'The Hawk' by most fugitives in the sector.

In 14ABY, Zaeh left Kiffar space for the Jedi Praxeum he had heard about from various sources. After joining, he was quick to hone what he knew with the shared knowledge of his fellow Jedi, he also showed a great talent in understanding the Force through his environment. He soon became an instructor in some ways of the Force, particularly in the arts of cloaking oneself with it both from the senses and within the Force itself. He also often taught his students the ways of hunting and tracking through Yavin lV's forests.

Several times over the years leading up to the Yong War he helped push back Imperial plots against the Praxeum, and followed several missions off-planet to assist the Republic. He had also requested, but been denied to ability to visit the Outbound Flight wreckage when it had been discovered in 22ABY. Though he did leave Yavin IV for a time from 19ABY and 22ABY to visit with the Ysanna on Ossus, learning from their ways as hunters and adapting their techniques to his own. It was this that had convinced him to prominently adopt the slugthrower, a weapon he had not used to much of a degree since a lad out hunting. He also spent time at the newly founded Academy on the planet, but it was a short lived stay.

After the war, Zaeh, alongside another Knight and Master Steen purposed to reorganize the Agricultural and Exploration Corps of the Jedi Order to help re-population of worlds taken during the Vong War and to help find new worlds to colonize for refugees of lost worlds as well as other, more long-term ventures. When this was approved, the Jedi Master was set as the head of each corp, but when he left for Dathomir, each of the Knights became the heads of each respectably with Zaeh controlling the Exploration Corps, answering up to the Council.

Zaeh's experiences have made him a tough individual, and aside from being a master survivalist and almost impossible to track -via the Force or otherwise-, he is also quite the sharpshooter, particularly with the hunting slugthrower he carries. His skills with a lightsaber lame in comparison, but when forced into such close contact, he relies on defense and counter-strikes heavily in a form similar the ancient practices of to Shien and Makasi.

Description:Facial Profile

Zaehyn stands about 6 feet tall with an athlete build, his skin is tough, almost leathery from sun and element exposure and is a golden brown hue, his hair a medium golden brown, and his eyes are hazel. His qukuuf are marked as three black vertical bars closely spaced over his left eye from mid-brow to cheekbone and four thinner horizontal bars extending from in front of his right ear to just below the corner of his eye, a scar stretches from under his jaw to cut across three of those four bars.

He is usually dressed in a serviceable forest green short-sleeved, hooded tunic and black trousers tucked into flexible dark brown boots, with his utility belt, a lower clasped gunbelt, a pocketed vest holding a few slugs in slips, and arm-guards with leather gloves. Over his clothing and equipment he wears a grey all-weather poncho. He often also dons a brown bandanna over his head.

His lightsaber sits snugly on a clasp on his gunbelt which holds his SSK and two water-tight pouches, one with a spare power-pack, the other with three slug clips for his rifle, his hunting knife is in a secure sheath next to lightsaber.

Short History: Danika had been a slave for most of her life. She never knew much of the outside world since she was kept close to her master's side for his personal pleasure. That all changed one day when her master's base came under attack by Alliance soldiers during a cleanup of worlds once held by the Galactic Empire.

Now free, she was able to see the world outside of the base she was imprisoned in. She was fascinated by everything, and wanted to learn more, which soon led to entering the field of science. She quickly showed a knack for scientific pursuits.

Although very smart in the matters of science, she is inexperienced, having only been a scientist for a short while. Because of her intellect, she was given a chance to give her that worldly experience in the form of joining a crew on a mission to explore new worlds. She accepted the job, curious to see what's out there. However, while she is a scientist wanting to learn more about the galaxy, she's still a Zeltron, and she isn't against using her more intimate talents to boost the crew's morale.

Description: Ruust'narek is a rare Lethan Twi'lek, a twi'lek with a deep vibrant crimson skin hue. He stands at 1.88 meters, weighing around 225 pounds. Rek's casual attire is a grey tunic and black pants with brown combat boots. On his chest and arm, Rek wears a few pieces of Imperial Sand Trooper armor on his chest, back, left shoulder, left upper/lower arm, and left gauntlet, a trophy he took from his first kill as a Mercenary. Rek sports a large brown duster that conceals most of his body. He decorates his lekku with feathers and beads from various places around the galaxy.

Short History:Ruust'narek was born on Ryloth, a blessing to his parents due to his beautiful crimson skin. He had a normal childhood, with the exception of having to help bring food into the house. He worked part-time with an uncle as a mechanic, learning the skills of the trade. Eventually, he grew up and became a professional mechanic. For the most part, he fixed swoop bikes, civilian transports, and any other ships that needed some fixings. He married a beautiful rutian Twi'lek named Shahr'azad and had a beautiful daughter.

In 25 ABY, the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the Galaxy and bombarded many planets. Rek was among on of the billions who lost their home and families in Vong attacks. So, filled with hatred and rage, he left Ryloth and joined the New Republic Army in 26 ABY. He fought against the Vong for 3 years, including in the Battle of Borleias, all the way until the 2nd Battle of Coruscant. While re-taking the planet, he was seperated from his unit and injured badly. He awoke after the battle had ended in a Mobile Hospital to find out that they had won Coruscant back and that due to his injuries, he was being honorably discharged. He was enraged that he had not killed enough Vong and helped take back the planet. So, he waited until his wounds had healed, took his credits, and left Coruscant for Nar Shaddaa. There he became a Mercenary and on his first job, he killed an ex Sand Trooper, collecting the armor and rifle he would for the remainder of his career.

Currently, he is working for Czerka Arms as a hired gun, unaware that he is about to be assigned to a mission that will change his life.

Short History: R6-N5 was the 135th model of the R6 line, serial number 0034502-D. Off the market, he was subsequently bought up with a good many of his breathren by the New Republic Military, and Arsix saw use as a mechanic aboard the Star Cruiser Erratic. Many years into his first job, the Yuuzhan Vong invaded, and the Erratic was pressed into service to combat the aliens. Not long into the conflict, the Erratic was blown apart, and almost the entire crew was lost.

Arsix survived by the good grace of being locked in his storage locker, so a day later when the salvage team showed up, he was rescued. Given a memory wipe and repaired, and Arsix was back on the front lines within a month.

His next assignment was to Gargoyle Squadron, as part of the 17th Reconnaisance Wing. His pilot was one Ben Gorey, who piloted an XJ-2. They were present at a few battles, including Ebaq 9. Following the strategic victory, Gargoyle Squadron was attached to an Assault Cruiser and sent on a patrol near Vagaari Space. The unit was attacked, and all ships were either destroyed or rendered inoperable by a mysterious enemy.

Against the odds, Arsix survived again. The battle wreckage wasn't discovered for a few weeks after their last transmission, and by scavengers no less. The remains were skiffed and loaded onto an aging Action V transport, before being hauled to the smuggler's base. It was there that Arsix was discovered.

Once again, he was repaired and given a memory wipe, before this time being set up on the Black Market. He was eventually purchased in late 29 ABY by a wealthy businessman operating from Dac, and loaned to the Czerka Corporation. Most recently, he was attached to the crew of the Clear Skies, to serve as resident mechanical unit.

Short History: The Clone wars produced many droids, serving many functions. One of the more expensive, but less produced came as the BX commando droid, who saw limited engagements for their commando style of combat. With the war's end, they were deactivated like everything else.

At least, the ones still active were. W3 was not quite so lucky, deactivated by decapitation. Found some time later, his head was replaced with a new model, and slightly modified by a woman who's knack for exploring the rim led W3 into a new life and function. Vora Survik, a spacer by trade, rebuilt the the battle droid while keeping most of his former memories, but an inhibitor and sense of guilt that made it almost... human.

She taught him strange things, that most war droids never know. Things such as life sciences, galactic lore, and a strange sense of pacifism even with a blaster. Shoot to disarm, at best to wound. Short History: A Chiss from Csilla, "Arranen" (as he is typically referred to outside of the Ascendancy) was a starfighter pilot in the CEDF during the Yuuzhan Vong War. Once the incursion of the extragalactic empire had ended, Arranen moved over to less combat-oriented jobs. After approximately four years, complications arose between him and his superiors, forcing him to flee the Ascendancy, seeking refuge elsewhere in the galaxy.

A year passed, and Arranen found himself in the alien government known as the Galactic Alliance, and was drawn to a corporation dubbed "Czerka Arms", which was in search of a guide that could accompany a scouting mission into "unexplored space". The Chiss man had been selected due to knowledge that his species inhabited what the outsiders consider the "Unknown Regions" and although Arranen wasn't known for is interstellar cartography, his transfers in and around Chiss space and migration after going AWOL had given him decent knowledge of the area, and he had in his possession several star maps held in his datapad. Czerka had promised him good pay and free necessary supplies if he accepted the job, to which he agreed.

Arranen had convinced himself that the alien company's expedition would be some sort of grand star trek, but was disappointed to discover that he had been stuck with a rag-tag group of barbarians and a ship of questionable design. Regardless, he pushed his lost enthusiasm away and joined in on the mission and intended to do his job to the best of his ability.

Arranen keeps a diplomatic personality with his fellow crewmembers, allowing him to adjust to the ways of the foreigners, and does his best to be friendly, if only to get the job done. He still has not perfected Basic, thus making his speech somewhat broken.

Chapter 1: Rendezvous at Farpoint


Jarsa Altmann adjust his camoflage poncho as he trudged through the woods, cold rain beating against the fabric. "Dendis,S-seven; you find anything on this wet rock? Sensors picked up life forms besides plants. I haven't seen anything for over an hour."

Jarsa adjusted his pistol holster, most of the crew was out exploring the world known only as PX-1818. The Clear Skies was about a kilometer back sitting in the middle of a lake. The jungle here was too dense for even the most suicidal of swoop jocky... so they were walking.

Jarsa hated walking.

W3 gave a digital sigh, not letting the transmission go to the vocabulator to prevent his approach be any more noticeable. The likelihood of him understanding these wanton explorers was limited. They moved too fast through the surrounding areas and across the planets to be doing worthwhile research. It's a good thing his comlinks were internal, and could be selected to be direct feed to his core, otherwise the small monkey-like creature that he currently stared at with cold, blue orbs of light would have already scampered off. As the droid switched through various colored lenses, his newest entry in the memory core recorded physiology, unique spectrum data such as ultraviolet or thermal graphs, general speeds, predicted forms of primary imput, and so on, so forth.

"There's nothing out there; absolutely nothing," W3 stated with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "Except the number of organics which you so frivolously decide to deem worthless. Are there any other questions which you wish to present rhetorically, or shall I continue to investigate the native zoology and moss botany which is cleverly growing along the undergrowth?"

"No need to get snippy about it..." Jarsa took off his hat and poured a great deal of water off it's brim before putting it back on. "I'm getting old for this."

Jarsa stopped as he saw one of the creatures that W3 had identified. "I guess there is some life besides plants on this rock."

Dr. Qual suddenly snapped up his P-8 Laser Pistol and blasted the creature between the eyes with a blue beam of energy, the simian collapsing to the ground spasming from the stun beam.
"Excellent." The alien stated as he aproached the stunned animal, walking past th expedition leader. "One more specimen to add to our collection."

" And if it's intelligent, the 1st thing it's gonna be asking is why the sith we just knocked it out when it came out to greet us. " Danika said. " Then again, maybe it likes it kinky. "

She looked over her datapad, giving only a quick glance at the few entries made since they started exploring. " At least it's something worthwhile. I was beginning to think this was gonna be a rainy day for science. " She was quiet for a moment, realizing they were in a downpour. " No pun intended. "

"I Sincerely doubt that this creaure is intelligent." The Selkath replied as he began to take measurements of the unconcious creature, taking pictures with his recording rod and taking skin, blood, and hair samples for further analysis. "Especially since our scans showed no sign of civilization or sapient life of any sort."

"Ah ahm awar I alreddy sed et," Arranen said in his heavily accented speech. He was doing his best to pronounce the words in the Galactic Basic vocabulary, but it was still somewhat difficult for him. His jungle-pattern camouflage was soaking from the downpour, and Arranen could feel the moistness coating his blue skin. "But 'is werld es unfahmiliah to meh. Grahnted, eh lot of 'ese plahnits look 'e saym."

"That is why you don't touch the plants." The Selkath told the blue skinned humanoid as he finished collecting his samples. "You have no idea what you are looking at and we can only make educated guesses about which plants could be potentially dangerous to organic life. Leave the Botany to W3-S7. He doesn't possess allergies."

The Selkath passed the sample vials to the Zeltron. "Danika, hold on to these until we get back to the ship." With that the Fishman drew out his Triscanner and began sweeping the area around him for other animate life signs.

W3 reached a mechanical arm out to touch the simian friend, before he noticed it perk up. The echo of the stun blast hit his fine tuned audio sensors, as the creature darted away, a digital sigh left his speech center. He stood up, and moved further across the planet, trekking the path, cataloging the various life by taxonomic guess. None really caught his eye, until his foot gently snagged on something. A vine, before the whizzing noise of a patch of quills firing, some bouncing right off the metallic body he possessed.

Bending over, W3 stared at a quill, analyzing the goo oozing off the barbed needle.

"Found potential hazard. Beware groundlevel vines with exposed veins. Camoflagued by green; no ultraviolet scans discovered. Beware, this might mean many animals hunt by sight or ultraviolet spectrum. Do note, potential biohazard in the form of toxins. They'll fire multiple quills within a 2 meter radius. Designation: Landmine plant."

" Dammit, Qual, I'm a scientist, not a mobile containment unit. " Danika said, though her tone was friendly and she took the samples from Qual anyways.

Seeing the simian come to and run off, she gave a slight sigh. " Something tells me things are about to get a lot worse. "
