This is a simple contest. Post a solo related to birthday parties and festivities in your journal. It has to follow all the basic requirements of a solo, of course. For those of our participants who don't have kids yet, you can post your solo here.

Best solo wins this adorable little jello-fellow!

The little zombie girl carefully straightened the black beanie atop her head to cover a missing clump of hair as she quickened her footsteps. "Wait, mommy!" Just ahead of her, a purple-haired woman paused and waited for her to catch up.

"Try to keep up, Minda. We need to finish getting everything for your party," Kat spoke as she took the girl's hand, the exposed bones of which were cleverly concealed by a thin black glove. While most of her outfit was black, her bracelets, wristbands, shoelaces, and hairclips were bright purple and green. There was even a cute green bow on the top corner of her beanie. Instead of the horrified stars that she might have received during their walk through the supermarket, people were actually pointing and smiling at Minda's cute outfit.

"Mommy, can we have balloons? Green, purple, and pink balloons?! And st- ... string - .... stringers?" Minda frowned slightly, trying to recall the name of the decorations.

"Streamers?" Kat asked, trying to hold back a giggle.

"Yes, I want streamers!" Minda gave a little hop of excitement. "And cake. Uncle Gavin said cake is important!"

"Of course he did.." her mother mumbled softly under her breath, though a smile played on her lips.

Minda continued chattering as they finished the rest of their shopping.

Most parents probably would have made all birthday preparations a surprise, but Minda's birthday was special. Since the zombie girl had been conjured by Darcy, already ten years of age, no one really knew what her real birthday was, and she'd never celebrated one before. So Kat had decided to make Minda's birth date exactly six months after her 'birth'. Kat wanted to make sure that everything would be just the way Minda wanted, so she was letting her plan all the preparations.

Instead of the guests arriving after the preparations were completed, Minda's aunts, uncles, and baby cousins were all there to help decorate the first floor of her Uncle Jake's house with as much purple, green, and pink as possible.

"Uncle Jake, huurryyyy. Mommy said the cake is almost ready!!" Minda called up to the white-haired shifter, who was putting up the last of the streamers.

Jake, perched precariously atop a step-ladder, smirked down at Minda. "This is the last one." After adjusting the streamer just a bit, he stapled it to the wall and hopped down off the ladder to hug his niece. "Perfect. Now we can eat cake and you can open your presents!"

"I get presents too?" The little girl's mouth hung open at the idea. Apparently, in the long list of things Uncle Gavin had said a birthday party required, her mind had failed to remember the all-too-important presents. "This is great! Can I have a birthday every month?!" Her wide-eyed hopeful gaze turned to her silver-haired uncle who was, in her mind, dubbed the 'birthday expert'.

"I wiiiish!" Gavin whined as he pulled one of his famous I'm-not-getting-my-way-again pouts. "Then I might actually get what I ask for every single year."

"Gavin, no one's going to give you a dragon...." Jake stated.

"And why not? They're not all as big as a house, and I'm sure I could figure out how to potty train it...." Even as he said it, Gavin's own expression looked slightly doubtful.

"Dragons are real?!" Minda's voice was nothing more than a squeak when she spoke.

"Oh dear..." Jake mumbled, glad for the moment that he wasn't a parent.

"DADDY! Can I have a pet dragon?!"
