"Bloody hell!" She swore with a stomp of her hooves, she shook her mane as she snorted. She'd passed this stump, several times already, and here it was again! How on earth was she so lost?

Really, it couldnt be that different than the mountain peaks could it? Well, it seemed it was extremely different than what she was familiar with, and well in truth her family was busy with their own lives to help her. And she would not burden them with something so..mind-numbingly easy...for everyone else it seemed.

She stomped around in a circle, clearly frustrated with what seemed to be was her lack of direction. The tiny diamonds gleamed here and there in the netting of her mane and tail, the small skulls seemed to smile against the ebony and pink locks of her mane as she danced about on striped hooves.

Dark lavender eyes shimmered with frustration, though in the very back of her gaze a sorrow lurked, like a fog hovered above the earths surface, she snorted and her head dropped forward. "Useless.." She murmured, commenting upon herself.

Another month, another meeting. The stallion was constantly on the move and rarely had a moment to himself. At times he rather missed the life he had when he was back in his father's former herd, policing them and ensuring that justice prevailed and corruption, bullying and other untoward behaviour was stamped out. He hadn't been completely successful in his endeavours there but his mere appearance and the memory of his lineage was enough to make them behave. When he'd taken time to relax and unwind there had never been a moment when a secretarial squirrel would barrel out from the undergrowth and declare that he had an impromptu meeting at high noon.

...He could have had baths, sunbathed, medidated - not any more, he hadn't been able to fall into a hotspring and doze since the very moment he'd stepped foot in the herd.

Nevertheless he accepted his position and appreciated that he had been given such power. He was in the type of role that many young bucks would only dream of, the type of role they would never see. Consequently he made certain that he did his job well and the discipline and expectations he had for himself echoed down through the ranks. He had been pleased to see that most of those in the defensive ranks had recognised the reasons behind his regulations e.g. celibacy was a must, women were not permitted to join.

He did have to be thankful for small favours though, the month had been a relatively peaceful one. Nothing had disrupted the tranquility of the slopes that would be considered a threat, rather all the noise had come from it's residence and their otherwise eccentric natures. But now? Well, the ebony stallion found himself skulking through the trees of the lowlands on his way to another meeting. Peace treaties and reports of unrest even in these parts were important information to him.

"Useless..."

His ears swivelled and his eyes fluttered towards the horizon, they had been focused on what lay above him so that he could dodge low lying branches (his arch nemesis). At first nothing seemed to be in his line of vision, but a double take ensured that he caught the flash of pink and was alerted to the whereabouts of a very petite mare. Oh he knew he was monstrous in size, but he also had a sense of what was the norm - suffice to say she wasn't the norm, she was a munchkin!

It brought a hint of a smile to his lips though it was hard to know what he found more amusing.

"I believe the soil might be affronted by your remarks, Miss," he replied smoothly, his hoof steps halting to provide her with ample personal space. He knew individuals liked it and had learnt as a child that he really was big, when it came to personal space he needed to give an incredibly wide berth to them. "Or the ants, it would depend on what you have your sights set on."

Her head snapped up at the sound of a very, very male voice, her eyes flicked to him instantly, oh unholy hell! She thought, she was in the company of a giant...a bloody GIANT!

Her brother was on the larger side of the scale, but this stallion, was..huge, no huge wasnt the right word, even that was small, she could only openly stare at him for a moment, jaw slightly slacked before she shook her head, her mind registering what he'd just said.

She looked down at her hooves, a light layer of dust covered them, before she smiled a bit. "Ive no qualms with the soil, nor the ants, and am sorry for an offence I may have given either." She gave a light bow of her head to the earth before she craned her head back, to look up at him.

"You can see over the trees cant you?" She smirked a bit, amusement danced in her dark eyes before she fluttered her wings.

He gave an internal wince at the reference to his height, however, he didn't hesitate. Instead a schooled smile flickered onto his lips and he seemed to consider her question. Obviously he couldn't see over the trees, she had opted to exagerate in a more indirect way rather than declaring he was huge like a foal. That being said, it didn't prevent her from gawking at him in much the same fashion as a fall. Suffice to say there were times in his life when he wished from the bottom of his heart that he was short, it would have been far less awkward. Alas, he had learned to live with the novelty individuals found in his height and skulk just a little more so that he was a little smaller.

...It would be easier on her neck.

"Alas, I lack the ability to see over the canopy but I expect I can see for further than most," he replied good naturally. He seemed to have dropped the topping of the soils, he had merely been using it as a means for introduction. He was sensible enough to realise that her mutterings and monologue were directed towards herself rather than to any specific landbased feature - well, other than herself at least. He fell silent and took a few moments to skim his gaze across her tracks. They weren't easy to miss and by the looks of things, she'd been pacing and going in circles for quite some time.

"You are lost," it was a statement rather than a question, but, unlike the usual rakehells in the world it held no malice. Instead he seemed to have drawn his conclusions and merely wished for her confirmation so that he could offer some form of direction without seeming to, well, what was the word? Ah yes, cocky.

...For some reason, soquili in the lowlands didn't take well to a simple offer of assistance from the outset. They didn't like to be read so easily.

He shifted his weight from one hoof to the other, giving another sweep of his gaze until his eyes settled on the petite mare once more. She really was petite, but he could be thankful for small favours, he knew she was a flutter and as a consequence he wasn't naive as to the reason for her small stature.

"I hope, I did not offend, sometimes it seems my thoughts can slip passed my manners and right out of my mouth, though, that itself is no excuse for such rudeness." She scolded herself further for the moment, before she sighed.

"Aye, I am indeed..." Her mothers voice echoed in her mind, only the barbaric said aye, it was Yes, not aye. "I mean, yes, I am indeed lost sir." She flicked an ear.

"I'd be grateful for some aid, if you wouldnt mind helping the apparently direction challenged." She said playfully.

Any form of flirtation or playful remark tended to put him on his guard. He was sure Niobe had no intention of attempting to corrupt or manipulate but he still couldn't stop the hair on the back of his neck from rising just a touch. He wasn't rankled and could appreciate that it was just a female trait, but it still wans't something he appreciated as other men would. Nevertheless he could recognise that mares often favoured such beahviour because on occasions it was the only way to get help, he had long since realised that there was no such thing as honour among many of the lowland males - they always wanted something in return.

...Even if it was a small segment of information.

The mares weren't much better.

"I've heard worse," he gave a loose shrug to imply that she hadn't offended him in any way and then rolled his shoulders. Skulking was not very good for him, he'd have the most awful creak in his neck by supper time - speaking of which, he should probably find a river at some point to fish. "I am accustomed to the directionally challenged and will endeavour to help you as best I can."

He hesitated.

"Although I do not know everything about the Lowlands, they are not where I herald from. Where is it that you were headed for?"

She watched him for a moment, he was a young stallion, but it seemed he was being plagued by something, though she wasnt sure by what. And, since she had just met him, it wasnt in her place to question it.

Her wings opened, and then closed behind her, just a slightly twitch of the muscles.

She couldnt help but laugh, "Directionally challenged..and apparently vertically as well." she shook her head, with a smile.

She wasn't flirting with him, but she couldn't help but be friendly, she was a friendly mare. She couldn't help it, she was a happy mare, though the faint sorrow that lurked hidden in the depths of her eyes, kept her from being completely happy.

"For the moment, I'd enjoy finding the river. Its quiet a warm day, and a cool drink would be a delight. But as you can clearly see, I fail at this."

He did allow a faint smile at her reference to her height. Vertically challenged often meant 'small' but he would have been one to argue that it could also mean 'tall' depending on the circumstances. In that respect they probably had something in common, both were vertically challenged in their own ways but he would envy her position more. Better to be petite than to constantly war with the trees over their determination to collect and display his horns for all to see. Or at least, this was how the large stallion felt about this particular issue. At times as a foal he'd considered getting them filed down by that strange human in the Alpha's camp but in the end he'd been persuaded of otherwise.

"I would say we have that in common, though we represent both extremes in terms of such a challenge," his smile grew a little more sheepish and he leant back on the heels of his hooves just a touch. Considering her words carefully, he could appreciate that the day definitely required some sort of relief from the heat. He'd felt worse and his black coat adored soaking up the sun but he could feel the faint prickle of sweat that often came when he was in the lowlands. His coat was thick and well suited to the slopes, it was close to torture at a lower altitude!

"That being said, I can locate water with ease and do not suffer from your difficulties in that respect," He lowered his head a little more and cleared his throat. It was definitely not a comfortable position and had there been nearby rocks or fallen tree trunks he would have encouraged her to stand on one... That way he wouldn't feel as if his neck were about to sap. "Provided you have no qualms in keeping up with me, I would be happy to escort you to a location where you could bathe and enjoy a drink."

He wasn't being intentionally cruel, but he could only shorten his step slightly. Given her size even if he placed a limitation on the length of his strides, he would stil have caused issue. However, another alternative did pop up into his head and he mulled over whether or not it was appropriate to offer such a thing.

"Alternatively you could take a seat on my back and spare the hassle."
