The inevitable downside to viciously poisoning your liver is that the rest of your body beats you up in revenge.

Valeriu hadn't moved much from the position he'd initially woken in. He'd shaken off the cushions piled atop him (damn it, Writ--), and then proceeded to limply lay there like the dead for the next half hour. Every noise rang in his ears unpleasantly, even with them flattened against his skull as tightly as possible.

He eventually found the energy to turn his head out, resting his cheek on the cushion and squinting painfully at the light, muffling a drawn-out groan.

The living room was a mess. His eyes trailed wearily over the fort, the scattered game pieces and popcorn, the abused, stacked furniture.

He just remembered watching Doctor Who.

Denying the room's existence, he turned his face back into the couch, sighing at the blessed darkness and mentally half-heartedly encouraging his sluggish body to get up and clean everything.

His body reminded him it would be sick if he tried.

Good point, body.

Quinn peeked in around the door frame, and saw Vale wiggle a little. He smiled, and came all the way around the frame with a cup of water and a handful of pills in his hand. "Here, you go. Take these." He walked up to Vale and set the cup on the ground by the couch, and the pills inside Vale's hand. He folded the fingers closed.

"I've got most of the rest of the house cleaned up, but I figured I'd leave this nice room for last. I think Writ must have escaped at some point, but I recognize his dog fur around here." He shrugged. "You guys are assholes, you know that?" He laughed.

"Whatever, this couch can stay here. I only ever use my bed, anyway. I hate my house." He began running his fingers through Vale's tangled hair, and scratching at his ears.

"I have some soup cooking right now, and I haven't seen Sydni, so hopefully you secured her somewhere." He looked around the room like she would magically pop out from behind something.

"You guys look like you had quite the party. Invite me, next time." It was more of a suggestion than a command, which was unusual for him. He smiled brightly at Vale's hungover body.

"I know how he is when he's drunk, though. Did you--?"

He almost jumped out of his skin at Quinn's sudden presence, senses too dulled to have realized he was there. Almost. At most, his body gave a miserable twitch, fingers curling around the pills reflexively. His other hand sought the glass of water, though he didn't down the pills just yet.

"Nn- v'hen did you get here?" He tilted his head enough so that one eye squinted groggily up at Quinn. The real question was: how did he sleep through Quinn's arrival?

Oh, but Vale did not care at that point. Quinn's hands were taking the pressure off of his brain somehow, and Valeriu very much so appreciated that.

"Nnrgh," he muttered into the couch, giving his shoulders a tentative roll in preparation to actually sit up and feel the full-weight of his indulgence last night. "Cleaned? Couch?"

That was right. This couch was Quinn's couch.

"How in the v'orld-?"

What the hell did they do?

He finally managed to push himself up (for the most part), muffling another groan and head hanging in his hands. The pills were quickly washed down with the water.

"Thank you. I am sorry v'e-" He looked down at the couch, utterly puzzled. "Stole your couch." His eyes ran more thoroughly over the rest of the room. "And your blankets." His eyes traveled back over, and then to Quinn, embarrassed and bed-raggled. "And your cushions."

He shook his head, stopped, decided that was a bad idea, and instead leaned it back against the couch.

"Sydni is v'ith the Carnegies," he clarified, absently, rubbing at his aching eyes. "There v'as...agh, that b*****d, he gave me catnip. And then v'e got drunk. It v'as not planned, I assure you."

But Valeriu remembered it being pretty fun. Marshmallows tasted pretty good with alcohol, that much he could recall.

"Did v'e v'hat?" Hm. His shirt was on inside-out. And backwards. He plucked at the tag tickling his neck, belatedly realizing he had a glow star stuck to the back of his hand.

"I don't know the exact time, but it was a few minutes after I woke up, shivering, with no blankets on my bed," he estimated pointedly.

"And don't apologize, you'll be the one taking them back as soon as you're done being hung over." He let his hand move down to pet Vale's tail, now, using his fingernails to scratch at it.

"Sydni is safe? Good. I was a bit worried. Catnip? Did he do it on purpose? That whore." He shook his head, but laughed. He was in a very agreeable mood.

"Did you sleep with him?" He paused. "And I don't mean in the curled-up-kitty-let's-take-a-nap way. Since, I mean, apparently both of you have flexible sexualities." Or they were just Quinnsexual. Either one.

"I mean, I wouldn't be mad, just sort of weirded out. And disappointed that I wasn't invited. Because, I mean, if you're into that--" He laughed.

"We'll talk about this when you look less like a train just ran over you." He took the cup that previously held water and walked it back to the kitchen. He set it in the sink and returned to his spot next to the couch.

"Though some would call it an improvement on your usual looks." He grinned.

Valeriu at least had the decency to look appropriately chagrined.

"Of course I v'ill," he promised, though the lack of response from his tail indicated that the hangover was in more than full effect as it lay as limply and miserably on the couch as Valeriu himself.

"Da. It is actually their mother and older sister -Bobby's mother-looking after her for a few nights this v'eek." Hesitance shone in the way his eyes glanced to the side, looking as if he had something else on the tip of his tongue to say, but decided better. "Yes. Seamus and Writ evidently met, and joined forces against me." He scowled. "My v'icker couch. My favorite one. They poisoned it."

Those bastards.

Once upon a time, Valeriu would have looked at Quinn, aghast and face awash in blushing embarrassment, outraged at the mere implication. Though many things about him had changed, this remained true. Especially when Quinn had single-handedly suggested he'd slept with Writ, and then prompted a potential threesome.

He spat out his water, mistakenly having taken his last sip.

"V-V'hat!" His mouth worked further, though he couldn't muster more than an entirely disturbed series of noises as his cup was taken from him. "Quinn!"

He could do no justice. Giving up, he covered his eyes with a hand, sinking back into the couch in disbelief. He squinted between his fingers at the other godling's remarks.

"Yes," he drawled, finally deciding to fix his shirt, taking a moment to figure out how to get the damn thing turned back the right way with more than the usual amount of effort as his brain refused to comprehend how to complete the task. He finally gave up, simply shucking it off with a frustrated grunt. "Because half-dead is dead sexy. V'hy did I not see it before?"

Valeriu managed to move again, this time steeling himself to push his body to its feet, swaying in a decidedly languid, groggy way as he bent to grab the sheets and cushions, pausing only momentarily to rub his fingers against his brow and grimace.

"Now I can't get the images out of my mind," he muttered, disgruntled, returning the cushions to Quinn's sofa in preparation for the move back. "Ah - this v'on't take long, I think."

His head may be pounding and he felt ready to throw up at any minute, but Valeriu was an expert in self-discipline. For the most part.

"I v'ould offer you some breakfast v'hile you are v'aiting, but, ah-" His eyes were studiously focused on the task at hand, deftly avoiding Quinn's face. "-There is not much besides, um-" Alcohol. Which would sound worse than it actually was, because Valeriu didn't like to drink all that often. But explaining that would probably not be for the better, because then Valeriu would have to chuckle and smile and tell Quinn, brightly, There's no food in my house because I get it to go! And by getting it to go, I mean I eat people. Because there's no point in eating regular food and pretending I'm not a monster, anymore. "V'ell, not much. I really only shop for v'hen Sydni is home."

"That's why they call it dead sexy. You're half-dead-sexy." He laughed and tucked his thumbs in his shorts.

"Your fault. You shouldn't have given me the opportunity to put the images there." He laughed, and unhooked one hand from his shorts to gently run his fingers over Vale's muscles as he moved around, now shirtless.

"I'm not hungry." He smiled at Vale, then put both of his hands on the catman's shoulders. "Sit down, the couch can wait. I don't mind staying here for a while." He gently tried to nudge Vale down onto the couch with his hands while positioning himself to sit in his lap. "You don't mind if I stay here a while, do you?"

It was a simple question.

With a simple answer.

"I gave you no such opportunity," he groused, though he couldn't deny the pleasant feeling that warmed him as Quinn's fingertips brushed across his bare skin, most of the bite taken out of his grumbling as a result.

Quinn was smiling, and urging him to sit, and the pounding in his head and lethargy in his body disabled him from resisting as much as he should have. Before he knew it he was back to reclining on the couch, a lap full of precocious and warm birdman and arms resting atop the back of the couch at his leisure.

He knew he ought to be suspicious. Quinn must've wanted something - he was smiling, laughing, cheerful and helpful and gentle in moments where he would normally switch moods faster than the blink of an eye.

He knew, and he honestly didn't mind, taking the platitudes for what they were. A familiar spark raced through his veins - rousing his body to respond, an itch to wrap his arms around that waist, to curl his fingers through blonde hair and n** at every inch of bare skin--

He slammed the door on those thoughts, quite firmly. Quinn was his ex - an affectionate ex, yes, but he'd moved on. They'd both moved on. Quinn had Seamus in his sights, and Valeriu...Valeriu had no business in nursing the one-sided, ridiculous longings of his body. He'd made his choices.

Platonic, he reminded himself.

"No, I don't mind," he answered, giving a half-shake to wake himself out of the momentary daydream. He blamed the alcohol. "You can help yourself to anything you'd like."

Seeing as how Valeriu was too hungover to play host, anyway.

"V'e have plenty of blankets if you are cold," he added, somewhat more amusedly, crooking an off-center smile. "And I got a TV. It has cable, but only to classic television channels."

He, of course, had had no hand in setting it up, instead letting the Carnegie brothers handle the electronics business. Seamus spent an hour teaching him how to not break the damn thing.

"I'm not cold." He pulled himself closer into Vale, and kissed his neck. "I'm plenty warm right here." He gave the man one quick clench, then scooted off to stand up.

"Well, I'll start packing my stuff up and moving it over here." He wiped his hands on his shorts, and grinned, winking at Vale.

"Shouldn't take me more than two days, if you and Writ help when you've gotten over your hangovers. You big, strong men need to help a poor weakling out." He giggled and started heading for the door. He paused, and looked back.

"I get to stay in your room with you, right?"

Platonic just flew out the window.

His eyes, drowsily slanted and squinty, flared open at the kiss, jaw working to come up with a response that didn't consist of garbled and confused mutters.

"V'ha - no!"

Tepin's face flashed insistently in his mind; her voice rang in his ears, as it always did.

But the lonely ache in the still-human part of his heart was stronger. The outrage on his face at Quinn's sudden declaration eased into a disgruntled frown as he stood and followed, bowing over Quinn just enough to deliver a negligent bite to the tip of his ear before brushing casually past him out the door first.

"You sleep on the floor," he grumbled. "Come on. Two days? How much stuff do you have?"

This was probably the worst idea in the world, but Valeriu did not particularly care.
