Isidomu loved to visit the rogue lands. Somehow, it wasn’t enough to fly around on the back of a Goddess or stay in the snow where he was safe and supposed to live. No, he liked to see the lions and other animals in the rogue lands far far away from their normal home. Nquma didn’t understand it, but she certainly disliked it. She disliked it more that she couldn’t say no to the little Ibex.

He was such a cutie, but such a pain in the a**!

She sat by a pool of water, letting it keep her cool as her illusion protected her form from sight by the mortals that might be roaming around them. As she sat there, she kept her eyes pinned on the small animal in front of her, trying to make sure he stayed out of trouble for once in his young life.

It was troubling.

Maybe she was to blame: she treated him more like a cub than a baby Ibex. Was that why he was more fearless than he ought to be? Whatever the case, she knew she had her paws for making sure he didn’t run too far. Isidomu was happy stomp around in the dust, making heavy prints with each step, the little animal trying to kick up as much dust as possible.

A slight growl rumbled in Kongwe's throat as he padded along the lands, otherwise in silence. He'd been searching for something to eat for the past three days. Sure, a God needn't bother himself with the feeding of flesh, but considering his domain... How could he be expected not to be thrilled to hunt? The thought of fresh, warm meat within his jaws made his mouth water and his stomach grumble. Damn those with hooves that proved they could outrun him.

A breeze swept through his fur, light but still welcome. The God inhaled deeply, enjoying the cooling sensation of the air.

Suddenly, his ears perked forward. There was a scent in the air; a very interesting one... It was something edible, for sure. He recognized the smell from earlier in the day when he'd tried and failed to catch a prey herd by surprise. Even though the God had finally grasped that he needed to disguise his identity in the form of a lion; still holding his stripes, stub tail and mohawk-like mane; hiding his wings and sabers; he was still too large and still within the mindset that he should have been hunting with a pack of 'his' kind... Hunting alone wasn't as easy as he'd hoped it would be.

He followed the scent, carefully, amber eyes locked on a far off cloud of dust near the closest watering hole several yards away; Kongwe wondered earlier if he should have stayed there, but in his irritation of not spotting an animal to catch there immediately he had quickly taken his leave.

As the God drew closer; low to the ground and attempting to keep camouflaged against the golden grasses; he took notice of the other lion. Ears pinned back against his skull. Was it another attempting to catch this prey he had caught wind of?

Kongwe caught the movement of the ibex bounding in the grass, and locked his gaze onto it. He pressed himself onto his belly in the grass, motionless in wait to see if the young creature would come closer.

Nquma settled against the ground, resting her chin on her crossed paws. Though she knew he was a mischievous sort, the silence in the air made her feel a bit more relaxed in letting him do whatever he pleased. It was only in the presence of company that she truly worried for her little morsel of a child. Her long hair dangled in front of her face, though not so much so that it completely obscured her view of the world around them. In fact, it was her hair that managed to help her notice that not all was well in the rogue lands.

In an effort to rid herself of her troubling mane’s inability to stay out of her eyes, Nquma pushed herself back to a sitting position, giving her large head a good shake. It was only then that her eyes caught sight of something in the distance. It was low to the ground, and almost looked like a fallen tree trunk or perhaps the thickest tree she had ever seen. Soon, though, she realized this massive form was no toppled plant, as it inched just a little bit closer every couple of seconds.

This was no tree- it was a threat. A massive threat, both literally and figuratively. Nquma couldn’t remember the last time she had seen a lion so large, other than her fellow Gods. Gods, however, always looked a bit more… God like.

Growling lowly, she got to her feet, taking a few slow steps towards Isidomu. Regardless of the size of the threat, Isidomu was not about to sit back should this creature decide to make a meal out of her only friend.

Isidomu, meanwhile, had no idea there was anything going on around him, content to continue mindlessly whipping up dirt while Nquma came closer to him. For him, there was no danger.

His mind had already drawn the conclusion long ago that nothing could hurt him so long as the lioness stayed by his side.

For a long while, the God dared not move a muscle. He lied tense against the ground, ears flattened against his skull and head held as low as possible without making it impossible to see his potential prey frolicking near the grasses that kept him hidden; so he believed, at least.

As the young ibex danced closer... And closer... Kongwe readied himself for the kill. Surely this would be simple, the easiest meal he'd gained in his life; or, this one, at least.

Then, the second was right. Bellowing a loud roar as he lunged, Kongwe burst from the grass with jaws open wide and claws outstretched to grab onto the until then unsuspecting little ibex.

The panic that beset the ibex in that moment was more than enough to make the little animal pee himself as he scrambled off to get out of the way. As he heard the roar and saw the animal leaping at him, his instincts to run had kicked in, but there was no way he would have been able to get out of the way in time.

Thankfully, he wasn’t the only one there.

Nquma had been aware of the thread. Once the male moved to attack, so did she, despite knowing that she was the smaller of the two and at a disadvantage. She didn’t need to win, she just needed to keep him from eating her little friend. Tackling the lion from the side, she didn’t use her claws, more her head, to knock the other off his route. As Isidomu scrambled behind her, She braced herself for another attack.

“You leave him alone!” she roared, no illusion in play. Let them see that they were dealing with a Goddess.
