It had been at least a week since the whole horrible thing had happened. Audrey had cried herself out against Elzo's shoulder and he had tucked her into bed where she didn't remember much other than waking up in the dark alone. Her hands had gone for her penguin then, contemplating in the silence of her lonely house what to do next.
First she'd just resolved to fill her time with school, which backfired when all of her classes were canceled and Meadowview closed and used as a National Guard base of operations. Then there had been patrolling as Linarite, but that fell off pretty sharply once she'd been shot at twice. Senshi attacks were one thing, but the Captain had no desire to pull metal slugs from her body.
So finally she'd gone to the hospital, where the bluenette found that Pasha had fallen to the same malady. Pasha, her adorable best friend, who was the sweetest person. Pasha, who was really too good for a girl like her to be friends with. Jada was there too, as was Fallon. All her friends, her family, falling like flies. Audrey had finally seen Elzo there again, at his brother's bedside. She'd sat with him there for a time, kissed him on the cheek, and told him he was welcome at her home whenever he needed it.
But he hadn't come. Hadn't even mentioned it until tonight, when a text lit up her phone mid-dungeon on WoW and she'd immediately abandoned it to go sit out on the front porch swing. Slowly she moved back and forth, watching and waiting. There were no words for how lonely it was to live alone in such a big house, and it was wearing on her day after day. Seeing Elzo would be such a relief!

So many things had fallen to s**t since that night. What had started off as perhaps the best night turned to be the worse. Stargazing, talking, cuddling, a firm affirmation in his mind that they were now 'a couple'. A tentative couple, but a couple none the less. Then it had fallen apart. Her folks had fallen to the coma that plagued the city, and Elzo couldn't do anything. When he first came into the Collin's residence, he hoped it would be for something like a invite to family dinner. To be hounded by Audrey's father. Something he almost hope for, expected. The invite he got, was to keep Audrey safe, to hold her while she cried and her parents remained motionless. He had no idea what had caused it. Well, one idea, but there were no signs of struggle, no forced entry. The negaverse were attacking people in the streets, not in their homes. There he had stayed with her, comforting, even as the paramedics arrived and they drilled her for information. He remembered what she had told them. He was her boyfriend. That simple statement made Elzo realize how much she trusted him. She called him to comfort her. She was in her arms as she cried. His own heart was torn. He was her boyfriend. It was his place to be her support, the one she could depend on.
A week had passed, he kept his distance. Mostly due to the fact he couldn't provide support when his own had crumbled from beneath him. Marlo had fallen into the same coma. His father had expressed his thoughts on the matter. 'Why waste money when he won't wake up anyway?' 'Let him sleep his life away. Better then have him as a vegetable.' The saving grace had been the fact that due to the nature of the pandemic, a cure might exist, and doctors wouldn't pull the plug until they could properly deduce what had caused the massive black out. His brother still had a chance, but right now, all Elzo could do what sit by his brother's bedside, and pray for a recovery. A slim chance, but it was a chance. Marlo had never been one to give up. He'd always seen things through. Elzo couldn't give up. He just couldn't.
A chance meeting with Audrey at the hospital. The first time she had seen his brother, tubes stuck into his body, machine clicking away as a IV drip sustained his life. for a time tjhey had sat, speaking little, her invite going almost unnoticed.
But soon enough, he needed her. He needed to hold her, to feel like something was left in this world he had to fight for, to protect. Audrey was one of the few things that made Elzo feel so deeply, and the separation he felt from her was almost painful. The Guard had stopped him twice along the way. the fact he wasn't in his uniform and that he was 18 allowed him to pass, but soon, he wouldn't be allowed on the streets. He might have to spend the night. That didn't bother Elzo. He'd slept with Audrey before. He didn't intend to do anything. Not with their nerves so frayed. The engine was killed just outside her house. His helmet locked in the side containers.
Seeing her on the front porch swing, he felt a sense of comfort. She was still safe. She was okay as could be. He'd woried about her. About how she was doing, if she was eating right or binging on cinnamon buns, and if she was lonely. He certainly felt that way at Hillworth in the past few days. "Hey." His voice was subdued. "Got room for one more?" He was wearing a new leather jacket. He'd never asked for his old one back.

Seeing him, standing there, even looking as lost and forlorn as she felt deep inside, Audrey's heart jumped up into her throat and she couldn't help but smile. It was so strange, how just looking at someone, someone who wasn't Castor could make her feel the same way. It was one of the reasons that she'd been seeking out his company more and more, that warm and fuzzy feeling that made her feel less lost and more sure. Sliding over on the swing, the bluenette smiled down and paused her swinging for a moment. "Well my butt's sorta big, but I think there's room if you squeeze in close." It was odd almost, hearing and using her voice again. There'd really been no one to talk to for a few days, so she'd just lapsed into silence.
The Collins house was almost deathly quiet, too quiet for Audrey to enjoy. Her mother was usually sewing or clattering around in the kitchen, and her father was almost always in the bedroom watching something loud and manly on the television. Now there was only the one light in her bedroom, illuminating the yard, and the lights on the porch that haloed around the pair. When he sat next to her, she kicked the swing off again, and lightly rested her head against Elzo's shoulder before he could move. "I'm glad you're here. I missed you." Audrey wanted to ask if he was doing okay, say that she'd worried, that she'd been lonely. But some things were a little too clingy, and he'd only just gotten there!

Hearing her voice brought him more of that comfort. She was still the same Audrey, putting her self down as usual. "Sorry Audrey." He made his way over, taking his seat beside her. "I like big butts and I cannot lie. I also like cute little ones. They type of which you own and need to scoot closer my way." He removed his jacket, wrapping it around her, pulling her to his side. It was something he did often. Pull her close, hold her. Something about having her near gave him a sense of completion. It was just natural, the right thing to do.
He kissed her forehead. They hadn't even had a real kiss yet. Just little pecks to get attention or to comfort. These days, they needed more comfort then kisses to a cheek or forehead could provide. "I missed you too. You've been eating okay? Nobody bothering you? I heard the dorms at crystal were getting crowded and I worried you might not be happy and-" He concern was bleeding into frantic worry exposer, showing just how much he had worried about her. He kicked the swing into motion. "Sorry we can't seek out to go star gazing tonight." Quarantine, such a fun status. "But, still, I'm glad you know you're alright."

Scooting closer and smiling as the warmth of boy and jacket draped around her, Audrey slid her arm around Elzo's lower back and snuggled in close. It was almost peaceful, and she could pretend like there was nothing wrong with the world. It was a late-spring evening on the porch swing with the flowers growing right off the edge of the porch, and the crickets singing. Everything was always so peaceful when Elzo was around and gold eyes looked up into blue as she beamed.
"Yeah, I hear Crystal is tripling up some rooms, Vicky was furious. She swore up and down that anyone who didn't meat her attractiveness quotient wouldn't set foot in her dorm. I heard they were sending the boys to Hillworth, got any admirers yet? Do I have to challenge anyone for your honor?" Giggling softly, Audrey shook her head. "I've been fine here. It's really quiet, and lonely all by myself though. I can't really say how happy I am that you visited." The smile dimmed a bit and fingers started to tug at her hair.
"Have you been okay? Not spending too much time at the hospital with Marlo, right? Eating and sleeping in a real bed? I keep wanting to go up there and check on you but...the Guard doesn't let me out. I'm a defenseless girl and all." Her tone was displeased and a little scathing. "But...it's also hard to go during the day. To see them all laying there. Pasha's the hardest, he's so tiny. I made him this thing..." Shaking her head, Audrey trailed off and smiled again. "I'm just really happy you're here, Elzo. You're really important to me, I'm not sure I could handle it if anything happened to you too." She'd been wanting to say that for awhile. It was as close as she could get to how she felt right now, even if it was inadequate.

It was peaceful out in sub-urban area of the city. Even more so now that half of it's population was in a coma. Even without the fact looming like a dark cloud, it was the first time Elzo had the chance to relax. The last few days had been hectic at best, abysmal at worse. His hand ran down her hair, brushing out tiny knots with his fingers. "All I have to do is show them a picture of you and they all go walking. Nobody can't beat you and they know it." He did have a picture of her on his phone now. Just sitting in the corner of Shufflepuck, a gooey cinnamon bun half in her mouth. It was a rather cute impromptu picture. Even if she hated it.
He pulled her hair from her fingers. She was always such a fidgeter. Then again, he was always running his hands in her hair and massaging her scalp. Touching. Some sort of physical contact. It was a slow transformation to the PDA couple they had mocked but a few weeks ago. "It's been just been a lot of phone tag with my dad and, well..." He'd been at the hospital daily, checking in to see his brother. He hated it. He hated the smell of the hospital, the lack of personal care. As justified as the hospital was for doing what it did, he still felt like Marlo was better. He deserved better. It was utterly unjustifiable as Marlo would have blankly told him, but Elzo still wanted it. His brother was in a coma, and that was what mattered most to him.
His feet kept the swing rocking. "I can come get you during the day. As long as it's light out and I'm not in uniform, all they ask for is to be home by sundown." They being the National Guard. Elzo pulled her a bit closer as a brush of wind sent a small chill down his back. "Well I'm your boyfriend right? It's what you told them." The question had been on his mind now. "I hope I'm your boyfriend..Unless that's not what you want. I won't leave if you say no, but I-" Moment of truth. "I want to be. Your boyfriend that is."

Tucked under Elzo's arm while they swung, all but sitting in his lap, it was impossible for Audrey to do more than jerk lightly and swing her face up to look into his incredulously at his last statement. Boyfriend? He wanted to be her boyfriend?! Nobody had ever said that to her before, not even the long-mourned senshi who had sworn his love to her! Amber eyes went wide and stunned before she blushed red and a smile crept over her features. She liked Elzo very, very much. It didn't matter really to her that he'd done things with a lot of other girls, and she knew exactly why he was at Hillworth.
But people changed, didn't they? Audrey herself certainly had, or maybe it was just a shedding of identity into the girl that had lain beneath the WoWhead for so long.
Lashes dropped and though the blush still stained her features, Audrey smiled and nodded. "I did say that, and I wouldn't have said it unless I wanted you to be. And I do! Want you to be, that is." Her hair was denied her restless fingers, so she simply started picking at his jeans instead, biting her lip through the smile. A part of her mind suddenly worried that he might grin and crack a joke about how he was faking it all along, that he was joking, and boy what about that friend ******** the friend zone. Audrey Collins liked Elzo Xanis, and it was high time he knew it!

There was a God. And it was not only looking down on Elzo, it was smiling. A deep sigh left his body as she told what he's been wanting to hear for practically forever. Pulling her fully onto his lap, (well more like the last parts of her, she was almost completely on him anyway), Elzo gave her a very entrapping hug. "You have no idea..." His hand slid under her chin, making her face him. "How ******** long I have wanted to be able to do this."
It was the first true kiss. A soft kiss, a tender brush of lips. Simple and clean. Yet, for all it's softness, it was over as quickly as it began, and it left him just as breathless as any other. "You're my girlfriend now Audrey Collins. Mine." He squeezed her close. "That means I get full cuddling rights, a one kiss per day, and all your base. This is non, well, slightly negotiable." The first time since the week began, and he could feel that sunshine. He finally felt a ray of happiness through all the darkness that had invaded Destiny City. "Is it too soon to say that I have been wanting to call you that since forever? My girlfriend? Because I kind of want to tell everyone I know." Utter jubilation. "I got the best girl in town."

Twisting in his tight embrace, Audrey snuggled much closer and wrapped her arms around his neck as much she could without smothering his face in leather. Though it wasn't her first, it was still their first real kiss as an official pair, and even barring that, it was a kiss from Elzo. It made her shiver inside, and it slid out of her fingers to thrum them lightly against the back of his neck. Her breath backed up in her chest and though she wanted to kiss him again, she spoke first, breathily.
"Well you are out of luck, because I demand at least five a day. I would demand five an hour and stack them but I am not entirely sure you could handle such a rough job. And if anyone gets near your base..." She ran fingers through his hair and fisted lightly, pulling his head down to hers and grinning like an imp. "I will not be happy, boyfriend mine." It was a threat, given with a smile and a carefree laugh as she kissed him again, brief and warm and soft. Audrey had a boyfriend! Audrey had Elzo Xanis as a boyfriend! She knew Fallon disapproved, Jada wasn't fond of him, but that wasn't the point. The point was that Audrey was very fond of him, and he made her feel special and amazing and wonderful.
"And you know...if you wanted. You could stay here with me. I can cook well enough, and you wouldn't have to be crowded, or sneak past the Guard." She was staring at her toes, gnawing on her lip again, fingers lightly playing with his hair now instead of her own. Nerves, boy did she have them. Her parents were gone, Vicky wouldn't leave her dorm at Crystal, Audrey was all alone and hated it. It was odd, how she used to seek it, crave it, and now she ran from it as if it were the bogeyman out to get her.
It was amazing, how things changed in six months. Really, despite everything...she couldn't remember being happier.

At this point Elzo had one thing running in his head. And that was the sound of utter spastic joy. It was glowstick drinking Demitri down the hall kind of joy. The kind you couldn't shut up even if you wanted too. Unable to really hold it in, Elzo did what he did best.
Pick up chicks. Literally.
Pulling Audrey into his arms, he stood up and danced with her, the same dance they had been practicing not even over week ago. Laughing as the sun started to fade, he kept spinning her. All the way down the steps and into the lawn. Then finally, finally, he set her down, grinning like the fool he was. "Five a day or five million." He kissed her left cheek. "All at once or over a 24 hour period." A kiss to her right. "All my base and every zig." A kiss to her forehead. He stopped kissing her, and just looked into the honey browns he'd come to adore. "I want to make you as happy as possible. I want more then anything, to be your boyfriend." Fianlly, a kiss on her lips. Fifth kiss. Not that he was keeping track. He'd never do anything like that.
"That makes five kisses." Of course he would. He was Elzo for god's sake. "I require extra for late night body guarding. Cuddling is free and payment can be deferred to the form of dances to the radio for extra practice." He sighed again. It was a happy sigh. "I want to stay...I say this in case my blabbering confused you and nothing I just said made no sense what so ever."

It was probably dangerous, letting a boy that you'd known for only a few weeks stay with you alone in your house when you were an utter virgin. Especially a boy like Elzo. It was wrong, all wrong, but it was also so right at the same time. He could sleep on the couch, the daybed, her parent's bed, whatever he wanted. It was just be so nice to wake up and have someone in the house again, someone she cared about! It was like a giant click in both their lives, something they'd started a few Saturdays ago in the middle of a booming club downtown.
It was just unfortunate that it took a major tragedy in both their lives to push the pieces together into a fit. Clinging as Elzo spun, her head tilted and it was hard to do anything but focus on his face until he stopped, and the world kept going around them in dizzy circles. A strange and unnatural thought hit Audrey then, but it was so strange that her mind didn't let it linger for more than two seconds - after all, there was no way that she loved him yet. Certainly not more than Castor. No. Not at all!
Mirroring Elzo's actions, the bluenette pulled herself up and kissed Elzo five times in return, beaming each time before settling her weight back down in his arms. "That's an advance payment, and we can draw up the contract with your lawyer. I apologize, but I definitely demand payment for seeing me in my pajamas and you can think up how to pay me on your own time." That she was blushing again only gave half a clue as to what she might think was adequate payment. But then after all, she usually slept in a pair of teeny shorts, and for a girl who never wore anything less than full leg coverings, it was a major trust.
"But you have to promise to stay out of my mom's underwear drawer. That's a deal-breaker." Tongue in cheek, definitely the way to go.

It was every guy's dream to have a house to no one but himself and his girlfriend. It was a bad thing waiting to happen. Elzo thought it was perfect however, and for all the right reasons. None of them having to do with anything beyond maybe getting to spoon in a real bed and not in the open outdoors. And even that was a big maybe. Audrey was shy and he knew it. Teasing was fine, but acting on her words? He wouldn't press her. "I already know how to pay you back for such a sight." He chuckled, bending over to nuzzle her neck properly. "You can see me in mine." There was that dark side of Elzo, tease, taunting, but never serious. Well, almost never. Occasionally his true yearnings slipped out, but, they could be masked over. Held in until a time when maybe someday. Someday...
"By the way, my pajamas are known as boxers. And you will happy to know I wore them today and they are blue with a tiny whale etched on the side. Why a whale? I have no idea. They're just comfortab- I'm babbling again." He laughed at himself. Feeling awkward for the first time in a long time. A girlfriend. A full on, I think I am in love with this girl, girlfriend. "Shall we go inside and you show me your cooking skills? Or do you have other skills I need be aware of?" His actions of rocking back and forth with her in his arms and his words hardly matched up.
"As for underwear, I don't think you'll have to worry about that...unless you have a favorite pair you don't want me stealing. I mean, you don't wear skirts so I can never quite catch a glimpse..." He laughed, letting her go and running up the steps. A night of just them for once, and no one to bother them. No worries about being caught out late. Having to sneak in and out. Just them. Together. Finally.

Boxers? Did he just say he slept in only his boxers?! Audrey Joanna Collins what did you just get yourself into? her mind asked, when her heart shot back that it was probably the best thing she'd ever gotten into so kindly shut the ******** up head! It did, however, center her emotions just a bit more, and her heart stopped beating so damn hard. It still wasn't easy though, this was all so new for her. Too fast? Maybe. But everything was going so fast. The Negaverse, her family's malady, everything. Audrey was learning just as swiftly that you had to learn to live in the moment or there was not going to be anything left.
After all, she could die tomorrow, couldn't she?
The comment about skirts brought her up short, and tossing her hair with a sniff Audrey simply stuck her tongue out at the Hillworth boy. "Just because you've never seen me in a skirt, doesn't mean I never wear them! I own tons of skirts with a lot of stockings!" Stockings that didn't quite cover her underwear, but he didn't need to know that either. "If you're lucky, you might even SEE one."
Going to walk past Elzo, she stood on her tiptoes and kissed his chin, the only thing she could reach at this height. "I can sew, and make picture frames, and bead charms. I can also knock you on your a**, because Drew Collins adores me and teaches me how to beat people up." She poked him once in the chest as the door was opened with a click, and she held out her hand.
"C'mon in. You can help pick what you want to eat. My mom has a pile of recipes, and I'm ashamed to say I've been living mostly off of cake and cinnamon rolls." Her stomach hurt from it, really. Having a real meal, a reason to cook a meal, it was amazing. It was domestic.
It was home.

The first time he'd entered the Collin's home, it had been in under less then ideal circumstances. Now, it was ideal. OR semi- ideal. Ideal was when he was invited by her dad. Then he'd know he was welcomed. But, still. It was like his first real time in Audrey's house. Crazy trauma night just didn't count. "You should wear a skirt sometime. If just so I can tell everyone how cute you look in it." His mind wondered how she would look in one of those light pastel skirts that ran to about they knee. He could see her in that come the warmer days of summer. Maybe even without the leggings!
"Drew Collins just better be aware that the second he tries to do more then adore I will call him a massive p***k and shove that towel he used to snap down his throat." Elzo still didn't like the idea that his old assistant gym teacher was teaching his girlfriend how to fight. Sure, it was good for her, but it was Drew Collins. He was just...Ugh. Bad memories of running laps. "Besides your obvious seductive abilities with food, and your charming ability to render me a slave to your every whim with just a smile, I have to also say you can make me laugh, you can amaze, you can surprise, and of course," an arm went around her waist and another took her hand. A dancing pose. "You can dance."
And dance they did, to soundless music and silly little laughter all the way into the kitchen. "If I can place an order, how about something simple? Like pasta?" Elzo loved a good pasta dish. It was his comfort food. And Audrey was also his comfort. Pasta and Audrey. Double comfort, double Elzo's awesome day factor.

That made her put a hand out and lean against the foyer wall as Audrey's petite frame shook with laughter. "Do anything? Drew? He likes punching me, I don't think Drew knows how to like a girl. Not to say he's gay, because that will get me knocked into the dirt, but no. Don't worry Elzo." The look she shot him was warm and encouraging. "I'm all yours." All except one very tiny part of her that nobody knew existed. That had belonged to Sailor Castor since before she'd ever met Elzo Xanis, so it wasn't traitorous. Right?
It didn't take long for him to sidetrack her rational mind and make her heart beat delightfully in her chest as strong hands reached out and pulled her into the dancing stance, compliments flowing from his lips the way teases and numbers fell from hers. It wasn't really surprising, but never hearing these things ever before in her life from anyone, it was more than a little stunning. Her eyes sparkled with delight and feeling, her mind getting no quarter for logic. Really, it's why she liked Elzo so much - he never gave her time to think. She didn't want to think all the time, but didn't know how to stop. He'd help her, whether he knew about it or not!
Giggling, she shook her head and took the lead, backing him into the kitchen where he picked her up and twirled her one more time before setting her on the counter where he legs crossed primly. "As soon as this is all fixed, you can go through my closet and pick something out and if it's not too outrageous, I will wear it." The condition was sensible, she'd been dressed by Jada before. Or at least, Jada'd tried. It hadn't happened.
"Alright, since I'm up here, you have to go get everything. The pasta is in the fridge, we buy it fresh when mom doesn't have time to make it. The sauce...hm." Ingredients ran through her head and her fingers drummed the counter. "How do you feel about a red wine sauce? I can't do a full marinara from scratch tonight, but I can do a wine sauce. Like a marsala! Do you like mushrooms? I might have to leave you if you don't." Her face pulled into a serious look...except for the gleam in her eyes. Audrey was an awful liar.
Already, she was looking for the frilly scrap of hilariousness her mother wore as an apron. Elzo would look darling in it!
