"In my lifetime, I murdered 21 human beings. I have committed thousands of burglaries, robberies, larcenies, arsons and last but not least I have committed sodomy on more than 1,000 male human beings. For all these things I am not the least bit sorry. I have no conscience so that does not worry me. I don't believe in man, God nor Devil. I hate the whole damned human race including myself."

Thanks to the wonderful world of movies I came across the film adaptation of this wonderful autobiography starring James Woods. At the time it was easy to get ahold of the book through the public library. Now I have a difficult option of even finding one to re-read it after all these years. I have a short overview of his life in one of my detective magazines though so that's something of a fix.

Carl Panzram is such an interesting man despite his violence toward others. The things he wrote about regarding the problems of his time seem even relevant today and he wrote about them during the first quarter of the twentieth century. I particularly remember how his comment on the prison system resembled today. This account was written when a guard smuggled paper to him before his execution, and there are also some biographical segments sprinkled throughout by the editors to give you a feel for other things happening during the times. It's a real good read if you can find it, but unfortunately it is out of print so that might be hard. I received an e-mail awhile back from one of the editors of the book, whom had read my reader's review on Amazon, and was told that it was going to be re-released under a different title. However, I'm not sure if that plan went through or what title that might have been. I'm sure my love for criminal analysis probably began around the time I read this book! xd I had no idea what "sodomy" meant before exposure to this work. I think I worried my history teacher when I asked him what it meant during the class break in high school.

So has anyone had the offchance to read it?

No I haven't, but that sounds really, really good! Think any cheaper book stores or libraries might have it? I'm on a budget...

Probably. I imagine that would probably be the best places to look. I keep meaning to go to this large book sale place when I go to Eastgate. I think it might be a good place to look for gems.

The only place that I have seen it in years is on Amazon. I think the cheapest copy is like $36 though... sweatdrop Or at least it was the last time I looked.
