Kataja, in normal fashion, was hungry. She wasn't pudgy or anything, she just had an black hole for a stomach and was never satisfied. The poor part of Kataja was that she wasn't a very good hunter. In typical hyena views, scavenging was just as good as hunting. And sometimes the more naive hunters would leave the good bits.

She was wandering, looking for something to eat somewhere. "Uuugh, so hungry!" she whined, flopping onto her back to take a breaf from aimless wandering. There was a slight thud as she set her head against the ground, looking at the world upside down.

It was time for Kizuka to go find something to eat as his stomach had been grumbling all day. Fighting his laziness, he poked his head out of his small den, feeling like a meercat or hare as he scanned the area, a blank stare on his face. It would really be wonderful if he had someone to go out and hunt for him. Would that ever be possible?

With a sigh, he heaved himself out of his den, stretching out as he did so. Slowly but surely, he trotted along sniffing at the air occasionally, hoping that prey would be near. He stopped, as he spotted a rather dark patch of grass not too far away. From his distance he really couldn't make out what it was, but perhaps something would come and stay there.

Eh. With her ears near the ground, it was easier to hear the vibrations of movement on the ground. Still, at the moment it was a little more fun to just stare at the sky, hoping that a zebra thigh would just...fall out of the clouds and into her mouth. No work required!

Oh, how she wished.

Grumbling, she rolled over and pushed herself up onto her feet, shaking all the grass and dirt that got stuck in her neck-fluff. "Ugh, okay, guess I gotta do this hunting thing myself," she groaned, really not looking forward to that. Maybe she could just find something along the ground. Might not be fresh, but it would do the job!

Kizuka stopped suddenly, blinking in confusion when the patch moved.

Well more than moved.

It got up and shook itself. He groaned aloud. It was another hyena. So much for thinking food would be lingering near it. He sighed, grumbling to himself as he continued to walk faster, and aimed to go past the other hyena so he could find food and go. Damn it all.

Her ears perked up as she finally saw the pale movement in front of her. Oh, oh!

"Hey! Hey!" she called out to the fellow hyena, as her eyes were starting to focus better. "Waaait, are you just going to leave me?" she sulked, but scrambled after him. Better than being alone, that was certain. Maybe he'd know where some food was, or...something. She was just hungry.

Damn it! The white hyena stopped, knowing that he would feel guilty later on if he didn't. "Yes?
Can I help you?" he said dully. Kizu would feel even more stupid and dumb if he had left a female behind. After all, as a male he had to be the better one, looking after weaker females, blah blah blah. He rolled his eyes, this one seemed a little too whiny for his tastes.

Why, just why couldn't he have dashed off into the bushes and never look back? Why?!

Kataja's ears flattened against her skull. She was a little upset, since...well, he seemed upset. "D-did I do something wrong?" Her shoulder slouched a bit; it wasn't a ruse, it was how she genuinely felt.

"I just...do you have any food?" He might not want to share... a lot of others didn't. But it never hurt to ask! Otherwise...well, she might have to go hunt for herself, and that never went over well. Hopefully she wouldn't trip over her own feet this time, like previous times.

The sadness in the female's voice made him stop. Oh no. Now she was sad.

As much as he didn't want it to, he could feel the guilt slowly building up inside him. Why was he so terrible? "No, no, no. You didn't do anything wrong." he sighed, feeling like a jerk.

He looked at Kataja, "Uh...no...? I ate this morning so..." did she not know how to hunt?

Oops! Kataja didn't really want to like...well, not break his heart, but something along those lines. She didn't want to guilt him, she was just a little upfront about asking questions. Asking is what made it possible to get something, especially food.

"Oh, okay." She brushed her tail against her rump, wondering what to do next. "I'm just...always hungry. It gets really annoying, especially when the herds thin out and there's less to find."

No, she sucked at hunting. She mostly struck it lucky if it was a fresh kill to eat off of.

"What did you eat?" she asked excitedly. "Something good, I bet."

"I can't blame you I guess..." he got hungry pretty often too, but it was probably because he didn't really get to eat as much as he'd like.

"What'd I eat?" Kizu blinked stupidly at her question, "Uh...I ate...an impala...?" he was unsure of how to answer her question. It wasn't a hard question to answer, but he didn't want to make her even more hungrier or anything. "The vultures got to the rest so..." he shifted paws uneasily, hoping she didn't get sad again or anything. He'd feel terrible if she got sad again.

"Oh, and I'm Kizuka'bui. You can just call me Kizu I guess."

"Oooooh." Impala. That sounded good. Kataja knew that she'd go wandering around looking for some food soon, maybe she'd look for that. Er, that sounded kind of gross, but she'd take what she'd find in the end.

"I'm Kataja!" she said brightly. "Girl with....a bottomless pit for a stomach, I guess," she added on bashfully. Might as well be honest with the statements too. "Sorry for asking so rudely. Sometimes I get something, and sometimes I end up in a fight, but...guess you gotta do what you need to to survive."

Erp, she said a lot, didn't she? Oh well...

Kizu knew that he was going to hate himself for the rest of his life for doing this but, "I'll hunt something down for you. I'm not the greatest hunter with this light coat, but I'll get something for you." if he could, he would just run into the nearest waterhole and just drown himself.

Kataja, huh? He shook his head, "Nah. It's not rude at all." The hyena gave her one look over before trotting along, wondering where her next meal might be.

Kataja's ears shot forward. Really? "Really?" she echoed her mind. "Wow, um, that's really nice of you!" She didn't really mean for this to happen, but that didn't mean that she was going to refuse! Her stomach wouldn't really allow her that.

"Umm, I could try to help you, if you want?" And not trip this time. She'd really concentrate for that to not happen. "Thanks!"

If only she knew what he was thinking. Orz.

"Don't worry about it." he said, his back to Kataja. She seemed like a little pup to him, and probably that was the reason why he was trying to get her food. Or something.

"Er. If you want..." Kizu shrugged, not really caring either way, "I guess two hyenas are better than one." though he didn't know if she was actually a good hunter. Not that he was a good one either to begin with, buuuuut.

Kataja was pretty excited about it. Food! And help with getting food! "Well, I shouldn't mooch off you completely. C'mon, lets go find something yummy!"

She wasn't motivated with food at all. Nuh-uh, nope. She did have all intentions of sharing with Kizu, though!
