Character Name: Kazvar Age: 23 Sexual Orientation: Business. None of yours. ((Technically bi, but generally so prickly it barely matters.)) Craft/Rank: Wherhandler-apprentice? History: Actually born at Malvren, one would almost assume Kazvar would have been far more inclined to actually try to impress a dragon, at least until he opens his mouth and snarls something anti social in your direction and goes back to what he was doing. It's nothing personal, he just finds people hard to tolerate, and bothering to stand for impression he figured would be a waste of time, since dragons are generally more social animals, and he felt he'd be a millstone around the neck of anything that actually wanted to be around groups of people. That may have had something to do with what attracted him to the idea of Wherhandling. It wasn't a craft hold, which was well enough, he's not especially skilled for most production crafts, and reasons he's not smart enough for most more 'scientific' crafts, but Wher's... their often of-putting reputation and, equally importantly, general lack of causing their partners to delve into suicidal depression, ((He has a healthy enough desire to survive.)) drew him at first, followed by a growing respect for their complexities, which he finds many loose beyond their brute power... and he fixated sharply on the idea of acquiring one for himself, figuring that the role of being a night guard would suit himself and a wher pretty nicely, and they could interact when it suited them, not when it suited anyone else.
He's always had a particularly feral, somewhat unpleasant vibe around him, so most people aren't surprised at his choice of profession, only that he hasn't decided he'd rather be a robber or a mass murderer, though in truth he didn't always make an effort to maintain this facade. When he was much younger, he'd actually try and socialize, but there was just something about him that makes it easy to feel as though you're about to offer a hungry predator a nice kiss on the lips. Eventually fed up with this reaction being the majority, he simply decided it was far easier to play the part, and be left well enough alone.
Ironically maybe it was this particularly wher like personality that made the nesting female allow him near her eggs to choose one, though the tension was thick enough to cut with a knife, with the Wherbreeder and even Kazvar fairly certain that she'd change her mind before he could leave with an egg, and another following candidate nearly lost a finger being reminded of the particular Wher's ability to do just that, change her mind at the drop of a hat.
He rarely discusses it with anyone who's never similarly faced off with a wher, but it was one of the few moments in his life where Kazvar was abjectly terrified, if admittedly somewhat after the fact, needing to go sit down for several minutes to make his legs stop shaking.
In spite of this, he felt no doubt at all when blooding Kazvask, but reasoned that if the small Wher was planning to go feral, he'd be more likely to end up dead than simply mauled, and he fears less the idea of being dead than of being helpless, and with Kazvask, he's not alone, and not as dependent on others and their opinions as he would have been had he impressed a dragon.
For him, it's the perfect relationship. Together, but capable of being apart.
Description: Thick wavy brown hair, usually in a pony tail because he's too indifferent to cut it, with an short beard (also sometimes straggly for the same reasons), Kazvar has sharp, dark gray eyes with all the welcoming charm of a well sharpened kitchen knife, and notable cheekbones and arched nose that only make him look that much more predatory.
Personality: All things being said: Kazvar comes off as thick skinned, unpleasant, and intolerant. ...And all these things are true, since he thinks most people are as dense as boulders until proven otherwise, though he's been known to make a few exceptions, usually revolving around people who take an interest to himself and his partner. The other truth is that he's also largely bark, and considerably less bite, but pointing this out will only cause a lot of glaring and a theatrical departure which may go so far as to include a broken cup of Klah and some nasty words about your mother.
The bond between dragons and their riders actually alarms him, even frightens him. He's never known a rider who lost their dragon and suicides, but he shudders at the concept, something few Hold Born do, or at least, something few Hold Born would admit to. The idea of being so intimately entwined with someone that it's better to loose your very life than be without them... terrifies him on a gut level that he can't even begin to understand. It's for similar reasons he's almost afraid to have a relationship with anyone other than Kazvask. If any relationship begins to feel deeper than his bond with the Wher, he's likely to become edgy, anxious, and prone to retreat from fear, making a lasting relationship difficult, and even potentially impossible, though only time will tell.
Other: In spite of the standard 'trope', Kazvar does not actually find small baby animals or children cute. He finds them messy, loud, and needy. Baby WatchWhers however, are perfect, because they are SO damn ugly, they have to be cute.

Wher: *FANGIRL* -Kazvask is a distinctly stocky creature, and if not fearless, a damn good bluffer, who sometimes surprises others by being willing to use show instead of attack to prevent danger to his partner or to those under his protection, but not so non violent that he would hesitate to leap into the fray if need be. He's rather fond of his equally prickly handler, though under the right circumstances, he can be swayed slightly by a really good scratching and a snack, though only if you've first been approved by Kazvar. Anyone else using this as a bluff to try and get where they aren't supposed to may find themselves retrieving their arm minus part of it. Whoops...wasn't that part of the goodie? Oh DAMN. He could have sworn....

That creepy "R" word. ((Relationships)) -----
Azuran ((And flit Drakell)): -Interesting young man. Candidate. Naturally. Tamed a wild flit, which I didn't know was possible. Kazvask didn't eat it so it must not have annoyed him too much. ...I wonder if a flit would be fast enough to keep from being eaten if he tried. Are they that smart? Maybe we'll find out someday. ... probably get in trouble for it though. Should put a couple marks aside in case he eats some snivelers pet. This one sniveled less than expected. Could be tolerable.
