A Private Role Play
with
Vyn
and
Lucia, Yuurei, and Ty

Where: Gambino Outlets (an outdoor shopping plaza)
Time: Early evening (5 pm)
Weather: very nice out – sunny, warm, a light breeze

”This will be awesome. I haven’t been out shopping for myself in so long. And we need to get you some cool clothes Ty. I don’t know what the fashion is down under—“

”Simplicity”, he said with a smirk at his half-sister as they pulled in the parking spot. He now knew what really got the Kitten talkative.

”—but up here” she continued without a pause, ”you need to accessorize and look hot. You talk about the ladies all the time. Well let’s make the Gaian ladies crazy."

”Okay – but I think I need some bras or something.” Ty watched the butt of a very sexy brunette swaying into a Victoria’s Secret. That store would DEFINITELY be one in which he would stop.

Yuurei turned off the ignition and stepped out from behind the driver’s seat. In a tank top and shorts, she was happy their car had a/c, but at the outdoor mall the stores were the only refuge from the heat. This would definitely be an interesting outing, she realized, looking around the busy mall. Smiling and tossing her blonde hair over her shoulders, she waited for Lu and Ty to get out of the car too.

Ty and Lucia were still bickering when they got up to Rei. ”Can you get her to stop?!” Ty asked, grinning at Yuu. Pretending to pout as Lucia swatted at him Ty jumped up on the curb.

”YOU!” The kitten giggled lightly and chased Ty as he ran awkwardly. Lucia almost bumped into Ty as he stopped quickly right before the Victoria’s Secret window. ”Hey! You won’t find anything in there!”

”You’re such a pervert Ty!” Yuurei called as she caught up with them. But Lucia wasn’t paying attention. Yuurei and Ty were taken aback as Lucia, who a moment before had been looking through the window, pulled open the door and flew into the store. Yuurei didn’t know what she wanted from there, unless there was a cool bra, or something in their Pink line of clothing that she wanted.

Ty grinned broadly and pulled open the door for his sister. ”After you!” he said teasing. Now to find that red head with the sweet a**. Or was it a blonde? Eff it! He’d be able to find someone.

Yuurei looked for where Lucia had floated to. ”Lucia?!” she called. An angry ”SHHHHHHH!” silenced her. ”What’s wrong? Why are you shhing m—“ the blonde cut herself off as she spotted what must have drawn the Kitten in. A Rose. Well not any rose. A rose frei. Vyn. The dark raevan was standing at the counter with an item in hand – either purchasing or returning something. ”You should talk to her.” Yuurei knew that she had also attacked her friend. But she had to start talking in order to know how Vyn felt. Slipping her hand in the crook of the Kitten’s elbow, she walked up, going Lucia’s pace. ”Lets wait here; there’s no way she’ll miss you” She pulled the frei to a stop, and urged her to look at whatever item they were near – their perfumes – rather than stare. When Vyn turned around to leave the counter, they’d be right in front of her.

During her miniature shopping spree a few days earlier Vyn had splashed out a little bit foolishly. Enticed by reduced prices and objects that were tantalising and good looking on the hangers she had been so enthralled in the action of purchasing on that hot day that some of the items bought were totally the wrong size... She hadn’t desired to try stuff on in that sweltering heat and when at home she had found a handful of her goods were either much too baggy or uncomfortably small. Because of that she had spent the most part of this afternoon remedying her errors; revisiting shops and exchanging what she could for better fitting sizes. This shop was her last stop.

The rose had actually left the brassier vendor till last for a good reason. She was fairl embarrassed about her folly in regards to purchasing the wrong sized bra... She hadn’t exactly had a good upbringing in regards to underwear shopping and in the past she had judged the right size by eye – the actual labelled ‘size’ of her bust was a mystery. Fortunately her purchases in the past had been near enough to spot on, but this lacy black number was too small and when the shadowy frei had tried it on she had found it very uncomfortable. Because of that the frei simply had to take it back, even if it meant that her face was flushed red as she floated hesitantly at the counter.

Hello, how can I help?” Inquired the store assistant; a pleasant looking middle aged lady. Vyn thrust the underwear across the counter, her dark eyes failing to meet the eager to help expression.

This is.. too small...” Her words were quiet as her whole body prickled with embarrassment. However, as the woman inquired which size Vyn would like to trade in the lingerie for, Vyn’s sloped ears burned hot with something totally separate from embarrassment.

Lucia was across the shop, looking right at her. Lucia, her once fond friend who had so ruthlessly attacked her... Vyn had read the letter Lucia had sent, but even so she could not forget the malice filled expression that had crawled across the feline’s features in the shadows of the train station. Heart fluttering Vyn’s hands clenched nervously into tight balls. What should she do? Part of her wanted to talk to the other raevan, another part of her wanted to complete her exchange as swiftly as possible and make an indifferent exit... Finally another part of her, dominating right now, wanted the ground to simply swallow her up and remove her from having to deal with this situation.

As she stood, stunned and unable to decide what to do, one very confused store worker frowned. “Ma’am... Excuse me? What size would you like?

The kitten’s breath was caught in her throat at she accidentally caught Vyn’s eye. She blinked a few times, and glanced down at the table of scented sprays. She shouldn’t have come in here, Lucia realized. She didn’t want anything. She wanted to go home. She wanted to see Zul. He’d help her. This sucked. Her black hair fell in her face as she was staring at the display.

But Zul wasn’t here.

Suddenly a hand was over hers. Her eyes snapped to it and then flicked up to its owner.

Yuurei smiled as Lucia’s violet eyes laid on her. ”I’m sure she’ll just be happy you’re okay. It’ll take a little. But you won’t know how she feels unless you talk to her.” The blonde glanced over at the crimson-haired raevan. It had been a while since she had seen Vyn too. ”You should go up to her.”

She was doing better, she thought, watching as Lucia took a few deep breaths and began floating slowly, hesitantly, towards her friend. This guardian thing wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, but maybe the blow to the head did the both of them some good.

Inside the frei was scared. She . . . didn’t know how Vyn would react. Not that she’d ever seen her friend angry before, but . . . she just didn’t know. Her hair in her face, the dark Kitten floated over to her friend. Lucia floated lower now, naturally, than she had before. She was shorter than her friend, and her belt buckle occasionally tinked along the floor as she moved. The sound that had brought her comfort when she had just regained control over her body was now a daily reminder of – many things. What could happen if she wasn’t careful. That she was, in fact, in control. And what she did to her friends. The tinks as she bobbed towards Vyn both comforted her and scared her.

Floating behind the Rose and to the right, Lucia was sure that she had noticed her closer presence. With her hair in her face, Lucia looked like a fallen beauty. Her voice was soft and a little hoarse as she spoke.

”Hello, Vyn.”

She bit her lip, blinked, and noticed what was in the salesgirl’s hands. ”That looks way too small for you.”

She closed her eyes briefly, waiting for the lashing, for the anger, for the scream that would stand her hair up and run chills up her spine. She didn’t know what to do, and again, she wanted to just flee.

Even as Lucia moved behind her Vyn was still frozen with worry. She had no idea how to react to this situation and the awkwardness could not have come at a worse time. However, atleast the cat didn’t seem to be trying to converse with Vyn about any issues... yet. She had simply greeted her and said what Vyn already knew – that the bra was too small. The rose could hope with that, it was impersonal and didn’t require much thinking. Detatching herself from the huge strain of nerves that was building up like a rising pressure in her chest cavity Vyn inclined her head to nod in a rather awkward fashion at her once dear companion. “Yes. I was in a rush the other day...” No hello or warm greeting had spewed forth – Vyn didn’t know what impression she wanted to give the cat because she didn’t know what she was feeling herself!

Turning back to the shop assistant she frowned. She didn’t know what size she was... She could ask the woman to aid her in selecting a better size but if that wouldn’t have been hard enough on it’s own Lucia – the most streetwise raevan Vyn knew – was right next to her and even if they weren’t definitely friends anymore she didn’t want to seem like a fool... Therefore she made a stab at guessing what size she would have. “Uh, large please?” Almost as soon as she had said it she winced, knowing that she had made a mistake. The cashier was frowning and after an awkward hesitation she said; “Ma’am we use the standard measurement system... chest size followed by cup size. This is a 30A for example.

Flustered Vyn’s wings drooped and her ragged ribbon sagged noticeably. She really couldn’t structure her thoughts with the tension between her and Lucia making the atmosphere so taught. Defeated and knowing that she couldn’t brush off interacting with the other girl much longer she put both hand briefly on the counter. “Could I have a moment to talk to my frie- Lucia..” She implored, correcting her mistake swiftly... Lucia wasn’t her friend at the moment. The coming discussion could restore that title but Vyn really didn’t know where she stood right now, so keeping impersonal was what she had to do – even if that was incredibly difficult.

Turning to face Lucia the shadow summoned a brave face. “Let’s talk...” She glanced over to a different section of the shop, in which rows of sexy underwear for the larger lady were displayed... It wasn’t exactly suitable for the conversation they were about to have; regarding their friendship and the extreme violence which had upset it, but it was relatively private and would keep them away from the cashier.

Lucia was quiet and very internal as Vyn was so cold with her, replying to her without even a hello, as if they were passing strangers and Lu had had the audacity to comment on the Rose's choice of size. The kitten blinked back emotions. She didn't know what to think. She maybe would have preferred a screaming retaliation to this...nothing.

And then she was dismissed. Vyn turned away from her and towards the woman who knew nothing about her friend. She bit her lip and chewed on it a little. Holding the buckle, she didn't even realize she was making it tink so rapidly. Her wrist was flicking it back and forth at a rapid pace.

Lucia could see her friend getting frustrated with the weird sizing. She could tell, pretty well, what size Vyn should get, but she wasn't going to interrupt her. She didn't want any more ire directed her way.

Just when Lucia was about to turn away and leave Vyn to the sizing that she'd have to do with the salesgirl, Vyn stopped the transaction, indicating she wanted to speak to her. Not as a friend. She'd stopped herself from saying that. But to her.

Lucia's eyes flicked up to Vyn's face, almost hopefully before she saw the look on it. The forced braveness. The desire to leave. The frustration and anger. It was all there on the Rose's pretty features.

Her eyes downcast quickly again. She nodded at the "let's talk" and only knew where to follow by watching the jagged ribbon float above the floor. "I don't hate you," she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper. She didn't know if Vyn would remember the question she had asked Lucia in her letter from Japan, but the Kitten certainly did.

"I --" she didn't know whether or not to say it out loud. In an area like this. "I was being possessed. Controlled. By someone else."

Her eyes flicked up nervously and then went back to the floor. She knew they were in the store still, but not in what section. "I never would have. I fought so hard." She blinked her eyes, silent tears creeping out as she remember the night in the subway station. "I'm so sorry." She blinked and drew in a heavy breath. She hadn't given Vyn time to speak. And now she waited for the verbal punches. She had stood her ground with Rivener, but with Vyn it was different. Maybe it was because Ty wasn't here. Maybe it was because she missed Zul, and his reassuring words weren't reverberating so loudly in her head anymore. Maybe she didn't know.

The words of the other frei rang in Vyn’s ears. They were absurd... Any normal person would never believe them... Yet. They were not normal people. Vyn could make shadows come to life and Lucia could contact the dead. Considering that power it wasn’t altogether out there to suggest that the kitten really had met a malignant spirit... Vyn had watched enough horror movies in her time (she didn’t like them all that much but when they were on television and there wasn’t anything else to watch she’d given them a go) to know that not every ghost was pleasant. Possession meant that the ghost’s will was usually stronger than the person being possessed... Lucia had always been so strong willed... So... If it was the truth Lucia must have been up against something very powerful. A shiver of pity itched through her. Poor Lucia...

Catching herself with this sympathy she felt her stoney expression crumple. She couldn’t just pretend that she didn’t care. However much she didn’t want to face the issue Lucia had caught her now and there was nothing she could do but resolve the problem between them. The rose and the cat had been good friends. A lump firmly wedged in her throat, the bat winged girl turned her black hole sun eyes up to face the violet droplets that were clearly awaiting her response. What to say? The rose didn’t know... She was such a mess of emotions. Keeping all her feelings bottled up and shoved into a corner had allowed them to strew and become completely confusing.

Finally, determined just to say something and perhaps start the gush of explanation she said, “I know you’re sorry now...” Her breath rushed out of her in a shaky exhalation. “I just hurt so much seeing you.” Her intention wasn’t to make the cat feel any worse – but clearing the air and saying everything how it was seemed the most logical way to tackle the issue for the messed up young lady. “What happened?” She inquired... She wanted to know why her former friend had fallen foul of a possession. “Tell me how you got possessed and what they made you do...” Gulping back the knot of upset in her throat a quiver of fear entered her voice. “Did you hurt anyone else, or just me?

Lucia's ears flattened back at the scolding. She knew she had hurt her friend, but hearing her say it. And the accusation that she hadn't been sorry at the time. It killed her. And then the questions came. And came. And the Kitten let out a slow breath.

"I can travel to another world - full of spirits, or souls. I don't anymore, but I was there. I heard a girl crying, so I went to see what was wrong, but it was a trick. A guy who used to kill people here was making the sound, and he went inside me and controlled me. I couldn't do anything. I tried to talk to him. I tried to scream at him. I tried to push him out. But he was too strong. I fought the whole time." Lucia looked down and slowly sank to the floor, hoping that Vyn would join her. It was a long story. It wasn't easy for her to tell.

"He hurt raevans -- you, Riv, Delia, LuLu, Prajna. And he hurt people. I thought I killed Yuurei." She glanced towards the woman who was currently over with her brother. "I - I hurt other people too. Or he did -- he made me Vyn. I fought so hard when he was making me. I-" The frei trailed off slightly. "Zul - do you know him? He saved me. He somehow saw that Brian was controlling me. That he was making me do these things. And then he killed him. I felt like I was dying. I wanted to die."

Lucia was staring at the ground. It was more remembering than telling. She would have to ask Zul what happened. How he managed to get rid of Brian. How he knew there was a Brian. Most of that night was a fog in her memory. The rest of it she just wanted to forget.

As Lucia sunk to the floor with a soft tinkle of her belt buckle Vyn resisted for a few moments, not wanting to make a scene. Sitting on the floor of lingerie shops wasn’t exactly a social norm... However, it was only Vyn, Lucia and the person on the tills within the shop and hovering above her repenting and explaining friend felt too overbearing and ominous... She had to keep reminding herself that Lucia hadn’t meant any of the violence towards her... It was this invasive spirit... Descending she nodded as Lucia spoke about how the killer had tricked her. It was frightening knowing that her friend had been exposing herself to such dangers! Knowing that Lucia could just hop over into another realm was alien enough in itself... but adding the possibility of violent psychopaths to the mix really set the rose on edge. She was glad that Lucia had confirmed that she didn’t do any more exploration of the spirit filled world...

As Lucia named raveans attacked by the malicious puppeteer spirit Vyn felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise. Lucia’s assault on her hadn’t been just a blib – it sounded as though there had been a dire string of attacks all of them as violent if not more than the incident with the chain... Lucia had admitted to nearly killing her guardian. Vyn could not begin to comprehend how it must’ve felt to be trapped inside a body with the spirit making her do that. Vyn thought she had been hurt by her friend... Yuurei had nearly been killed yet there she was, outside, still doing her job as a parent. It was inspirational in a way... From the human’s obvious dedication to the cat the shadow formed the conclusion that she too must forgive and forget.

Zul... Killed him?” She hesitantly moved a hand to place it comfortingly on the other girl’s shoulder... Forcing a brave expression Vyn tried to pluck out the silver lining amongst the tangled messy of black clouded revelations. “At least he’s gone now...?

And as Vyn settled beside her, the kitten felt a little hope. Maybe, since she was willing to listen. Maybe she'd also be willing to try to understand. The frei didn't want to look at the expression on her elder's face. Lucia bit her lip and waited for Vyn's response.

Lucia nodded slowly at the first question. He was dead. That much the kitten was sure of. She had not seen it. She had not been conscious. But his reassurances made her know the truth. Brian Sparks would never return. And then a delicate hand was resting on her shoulder. And the breath that the frei had unknowingly been holding was released. She gently pressed her warm cheek against her friend's hand, going slowly. Non threatening. But that, it seemed, was the rose's goal too. Slowly. Non threatening. And a little tentative.

Her cheek was cool against Vyn's hand. "He's gone." Lucia sighed softly. A little relieved and a little scared. What if she hurt Vyn again? She wouldn't let her guard down completely, the frei decided. But it was good to know the rose was willing to try. Lucia was stuck a bit. Desperate for forgiveness and unwilling to risk her friend by getting close again.

As her friend inclined her head to rest her cheek on Vyn’s comforting hand the rose felt that this was the poiunt to confirm that they would make up and attempt a friendship again rather than living in fear of being hurt or hurting each other... There was already a sense of that resolution in the air around them but the rose wanted oral confirmation, plus she knew a way that would make the cat feel less guilty, the shadow could tell in those subtle traces of body languages and the obviously recounting of the story that the cat was grievously regretting what her body had done during her possession.

Gently the rose moved her hand, cupping the other girl’s chin and moving her head up to be straight... Letting her slender fingers linger momentarily on the cat’s slim jawline she spoke her thoughts. The contact spoke volumes for the girl who usually had a great aversion to physical closeness. “I want to be friends still Lucia.” She moved her hands to slip to the black leather satchel located at her side in which she kept her purse, fashionably embellished with a lacy rose. “I kept what you sent me...” She undid the clasp and dipped her hand in, pulling out the chain and familiar links of metal... “But I wasn’t wearing it because I was...” She trailed off. They were turning over a new leaf now. Friends again. Admittedly not as close but they could work towards that.

Braving a smile she extended her wrist and draped the bracelet over it. “Would you put it on for me... Like the necklace.” Her black hole sun eyes met the cat’s lilac eyes and hoped that the cat would do her this honour. It felt right to use this as a confirmation of the new start. The breaking of the necklace had half symbolised the breakdown caused (in hindsight) by the possession. This would be a symbolic form of starting afresh. Reforging the bonds between them, both metaphorical and literal.

Slowly, as Vyn moved her head up, Lucia let out a breath. It wasn't a comfortable feeling, someone positioning her head. She didn't like it. But she was silent, as she could tell it was not done in violence. The cool hand lay on her jaw as the Rose spoke. Lucia nodded after her face was released.

She did too. That was plain in her actions, in her letter, in her tone. She didn't want to lose so close a friend. Even if it was no longer as close a relationship. Biting her lip her eyes followed Vyn's motions. What she sent?

The Kitten pursed her lips into a sad smile when she saw the bracelet. She could fill in the blank easily enough about why the frei wasn't wearing it.

Lucia's head cocked to the side slightly. She didn't remember putting the necklace on her, and if she did, there certainly wasn't any big deal made of it, but if Vyn wanted her to, she would put the bracelet on her wrist.

Lucia nodded, still silent. Her hands reached out and her fingers easily positioned the clasp and let it close, sealing the ornament around the pale wrist. She was quiet, even when she said, "Thanks. For being willing to forgive."
PostPosted: Thu Sep 09, 2010 1:48 pm

With a solemn smile Vyn lifted her hand up, examining the wrist decoration. Even when she had still been upset and confused with Lucia she had admitted that the cat had done a good job at patching up the broken necklace and crafting a pretty piece of jewellery... The dainty chain was made of painted black metal, strung along it were the small ornaments salvaged from the broken necklace – small dangly metal shapes contrastingly starkly against her pale skin... It didn’t matter that she was wearing her arm warmers, it still looked pleasant. “Thank you,” she murmured. The hand without the bracelet gently touched the metal and moved a disk from the original necklace between her fingertips.

I’m glad you came over and made sure you could explain...” Here her eyes drifted from the other girl’s face... Lingering on the objects around them, she couldn’t keep eye contact with the cat. What Lucia had done had been very brave. Vyn could have so easily turned round and emotionally attacked her, for all that Lucia had known Vyn could have even physically attacked her – the other frei had been resolved enough to face such a threat. The shadow sighed... “I know I wouldn’t be able to do that...

Rather than letting this awkwardness linger the rose decided that perhaps it was better to do something, even if that meant ending this conversation... It felt weird to have lapsed into silence with the normally chatty and exuberant frei... Rising slightly she waved an arm at the woman at the counter. The human’s face had been peering over at them and Vyn felt the light tint of a blush rising his her cheeks. “I suppose I better go get my sizing sorted..” She mumbled, feeling the embarrassment of her folly returning after the scouring of her emotions by her interactions with Lucia had pushed it aside.

Lucia nodded quietly. She had been strong lately. She knew, but "You'd do it. You'd have to." She looked sadly at her friend, but without regret. Even if Vyn didn't understand what she meant, it was fine. She couldn't let it sit as it was. It wasn't her fault, but she just could not let people think she was the one attacking people. She couldn't lose her friends because of it. It would make it so Brian won. So she was resolved. Now that she was okay with Vyn. And with Delia.

"They have this cool measuring tape that can figure that out for you. But I'd bet your a 36 B or C." Lucia smiled and floated upwards, pulling Vyn up the rest of the way. "And don't let her push you around! Remember she sells it for a living and has seen everything and answered every question a million times before." Spotting Yuurei and Ty waiting, she motioned to them. "That's Ty, my guardian's brother. He's kinda hunky. And he has a crazy cool accent. You have stuff to do, obviously, but maybe once you have time you can come by, meet him, and hang out."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:44 pm

Vyn’s eyes lingered upon Ty. Lucia was right, he was easily describable as hunky... But she had never really viewed humans as attractive in that sense. Perhaps it was her association with them as carers. Regardless she nodded mutely. Lucia had always been much more open minded about boys – she positively bloomed when attention was given to her; especially when it was with good looking people. “I would love to meet him.” Her eyes were still trained on him and the kitten’s guardian. No doubt the pair of them would have been Lucia’s safety net during the hard times that she had been through. Again a cold wave of nausea rippled through her leaving the after effect of awe for her incredibly strong companion.

B or C... 36. Thank you Lucia.” She intoned, smiling genuinely as she broke eye contact with the humans and looked back to her well informed companion. “I’ll tell her that. And I won’t be pushed around now that I know.. Roughly.” Her fingers clenched into a determined fist; emulating some of the other girl’s life energy and street smarts. “I’ll go do that... You can wait if you want or...” She looked to Ty and Yuurei. “If you have to go, that’s fine.” She paused, her heart in her mouth. All of a sudden she felt a little awkward again; it was like a ghost plaguing her – the memory of Lucia’s face contorted into a snarl of hate.

I’ll ring you. We can meet up like you said?

Lucia looked at Vyn with a small nod. She could get the hint. And the tension was certainly still there. "Yeah, you have my number." Lucia let out a small breath and placed a smile on her face. "I'll talk to you later." And she floated towards her guardian and Ty. With a jerk of her head towards the exit Lucia led the way outside.

It wasn't really the understanding reunion she had wanted. The space between them was very obvious. But if they were to be friends, she knew it would take time. Letting out a sigh Lucia went and leaned against the car, her head down. Before she knew it, a warm hand was on her shoulder. Lifting up her eyes, the faces of an understanding Ty and a forgiving Yuurei were before her.

Nodding slightly, she placed her own hand on Ty's. "Now about your clothes..."
