So Mence is being tested as an uber now by Smogon. (Zetshimaru should of posted this with the latias thread)

What does everyone think?

Personally Zetshimaru can see why it is being brought up, but Zetshimaru doesn't see it jumping. Maybe another BL tier should be made. There are a few pokemon in uber that are not strong enough to play in ubers but too strong for ou.

I don't see Salamence going up to Ubers as the main reason why Garchomp made it was his ability on top of Yache Berry. Don't get me wrong, Intimidate can be an effective ability, but even on the most bulky of Mences, it's not enough to stop the impending doom of anything sporting BoltBeam. Salamence just doesn't have the defenses that Dragonite has or even the evasion from Sand Veil, with or without Yache Berry, Salamence isn't THAT hard to stop.

Needless to say, in Ubers, Salamence is completely outclassed by Rayquaza. So far on Smogon's test ladder of no mence, there is a heavy increase in stall tactics, ugh. If Salamence gets Uber banned, I'm definitely not going to be looking forward to all the slow-paced battles. Well, all in all, depending on reaction of what's decided, we can have a debate about it all on our own.

Well the main reason that Garchomp went into Ubers was because it was virtually uncounterable*

I'm pretty sure Salamence can be countered, it's just he is so versatile that one cannot know which set its running.

*there is one surefire counter, but it can still miss with Sand Veil's evil power.

Chomp was counterable, just that you lost 2 Pokémon because of Chomp.

Cole has to say this....IF SALAMENCE BECOMES AN UBER, THEN I WILL GO CRAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!

Salamence is not just my favorite dragon, but a powerhouse, yet not as bad as Garchomp. And I speak for the dragon-trainers, if Salamence is banned in the uber-tier, then dragons will suffer yet ANOTHER harsh blow. I mean, Salamence doesn't have defences like Dragonite and isn't as crap-kicking as Garchomp(whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy were you made an uber???) with massive speed and attack and a potential ability that'll make it harder to hit. Salamence brings sheer power while lowering attack, yet it can be a bit frail to the previous stated bolt-beam Pokemon. Most commonly, it falls to the ever-awesome yet deadly Starmie.

In conclusion, Salamence is powerful, but not uber enough to be in the uber tier. And if it does.....I'll still go bannannas, no ape pun intended..

This post was the best one Zetshimaru found for bumping mence to uber.

Granted Zetshimaru only read the first part, to much text for Zetshimaru, who doesn't really care enough =/

I really don't think that Salamence warrants a bump up to Ubers. As Kyrenx pointed out, Rayquaza is Salamence on steroids- no Salamence set is going to hold a candle to it, save the extra 5 speed (which will only get the jump on Rayquaza if it's +Speed, EV-trained, anyway).

To argue for OU Salamence, Yache sets are extremely rare- making that reason moot. While his stats can be bulky, those sets use Leftovers nine times out of ten. In addition, unlike Garchomp, he's got a weakness to SR, and without Sand Veil, to boot. Sets with Life Orb sap their own HP, and a turn spent to Roost can allow the opponent to set up.

Granted, I won't downplay the deadliness of DD Salamence, which is the only reason why I can see it going to Ubers. But geez, anyone who's fought a Salamence knows what to expect by now, right? I've never had a problem with a Salamence, personally, as Slowbro switches in on most sets with impunity.

Anyway, I digress. I still say it should be in OU.

Personally, I'm not seeing it either. You guys have more experience than I do on the Battle Sets and everything that people use in the Metagame, but I do know that a fast and strong ice type (Such as my Froslass Vexina) could likely send one packing with one good Ice Punch/Ice Beam. It's apparently not as threatening as Garchomp, and as Kyrenx said, Rayquaza is a massive dragon powerhouse.

I agree, it is quite the versatile beast; MixMence and DDMence both require completely different counters in regards to switching in against, but regardless the weaknesses are still the same. Things definitely appear to be going south for Salamence on the Smogon boards.

Is it just me or is Tangerine from Zet's link just trying to derail the discussion towards a discussion on the proper way to debate?

I really hate it when others get caught up in both semantics, as well, want everything completely spelled out for them. God forbid someone having to try inferring a comment or rebuttal.

As for our lizardy friend. I do feel for it if were to be elevated to the uber tier. I personally despise the poke because of how I believe it shapes the OU sphere, but I'd rather it not be elevated because of the lack of use it will really see again.

I am curious though. If Smogon does change its status, are we going to host another tier placement debate?

It's always best to question Smogon on all it's decisions.

I don't really care for Salamence, I think he is ugly so I don't use him. Lol

Anyhow, I believe that Salamence does have a major impact on the OU tier, however if he were to go Uber, a lot of other pokemon would go up to OU. I mean, some UU/NU pokemon have great potential, but they just can't keep up with Salamence. This is why they're in the tiers they're in. Therefore, if they put Salamence in Uber, then the metagame will change, like Kyrenx said, to a more slow-based stall metagame. Salamence is one who can break through walls, however he can be countered, & pretty easily if you know what set your opponent is running. Garchomp however, was deadly in OU not to mention the prevailance of Sandstorm in most Standard Battles which could make him incerdibly difficult to take down.

My opinion of where he should be placed:
OU, all day & every day. Sure he does leave a dent in many teams, but thanks to Stealth Rock, he will take 25% damage just for switching in, which will leave him in the KO range for any Ice Beamers (Which is a pretty common move), & will be taken down.

its a shame that Salamence is comeing close to being uu and i dont see why anyone would want to put it on the list besides not want to go against one that just tells you that person is real noobish in first place and to be honest salamence should stay ou because then inturn there will never be a chance for a dragon gym to be started (if there is not one allready) so i would have to say that salamence should stay at ou

Rayquaza is a massive dragon powerhouse.

Rayquaza is & always will be an Uber... unless every other pokemon gets like 200 more base stat points. Lol rofl

Btw, I know you weren't saying he wasn't Uber, I'm just kidding with ya.
