Night was descending across the land. The moon shined bright in the orange and purple sky, but clouds dotted the sky threatening to block out the moon. The night was still warm from the day prior but a breeze held the promise of a cooling eve. It was these late spring days that would get warm in the day but could still catch a chill in the darkest hour of the night. The river on the forest's edge churned and thrashed about. The forest wasn't exactly scary all the time though it's dark depths held terrifying and horridly life altering, and even deadly creatures...
The night was still young and for one mare full of opportunities to escape. Once more one of her mood trips and caused someone to run away from her. Her attitude though was one of passive annoyance. The young mare meandered along the edge of the river. Zheadeos one of the few Stallions that dealt with her mood swings would have been as far away from the angry water as he could be, but that was not Omutia. She liked when the water churned and trashed about. It reminder her about her own mood's. The night held an air about it as if it were charged. Something stirred the wild life within the forest but Omutia was in one of her foul moods so she cared not what was wrong with the small critters.

Eyes from the forest followed the mare as she made every move. She was being hunted, and didn't even realize it. Oh, that was the best part. Lime green eyes glowed slightly behind some well hidden plants. Rimes body was completely still. He let out a almost silent growl. Almost wanting to charge now, but knowing that'd be a bad mistake. He wanted to actually get close enough to put a few deep wounds in. Would be more ideal to actually kill her.
His belly rumbled. Oh he was hungry, and just thinking about killing the mare made his mouth water. He normally didn't go for something this big, but he had sights on her tonight. He was crazed, and nothing could stop him. Not tonight. He moved slightly, but not enough for anyone to notice even if they were looking for danger. Patience was the key, and he could wait all night for her to make one vital mistake. Then he'd lunge at her. Attack with all his force. He could smell her beauty, her sweat. It was hard to resist attacking now, but he had to if he wanted to eat tonight.

Omutia grumbled lowly as stones crunched under her heavy foot falls. A squirrel that looked oddly familiar to her as it scampered across the ground a foul look upon it's face. The sight caught her slightly off and she paused in her movement. She had a squirrel friend but surely that had not been him. She tossed her head and cast a glance upward to the sky and saw that the shades of orange and red were giving way to the purples and dark blues of night. Stars were glittering scattered far and wide in the sky. "Stupid stars." She mumbled under her breath as she once more started to walk.
Omutia was in a foul mood and her thoughts mirrored her mood. Zhea was such a know it all. Always so silent and such acting like he was better then everyone. Those stupid foal playing without a care in the world. If she could have growled she would have but it was not something she could do. She settled for huffing and taking heavy steps crushing riverbed rocks and leaving hoof prints in the soft ground. The moon glittered off the river casting a silver sheen on the ground, but Omutia huffed in disdain at the silver lit scenery.

The time was almost here. He could feel it in every inch of his body. Every ounce of it was pointing towards the moment he had been waiting for. He watched her carefully. She had been frightened by a small pest, but that didn't make him move. No, that wasn't the moment he was looking for. She must let all guard down before he went. Though his belly was protesting. He didn't know how much longer he could stall before his stomach took over his control.
Of course, even then it wouldn't be too bad. He didn't mind when it took over. It meant that he'd feel less pain if he got hurt. He could smell her blood now, at least, he thought he could smell it. It was all part of his imagination and the hunger was slowly getting to him. Just a few more minutes, he urged himself back into control. His mouth watered even more, drool started down one side of his mouth. His long bottom teeth stuck out with his closed mouth.

Omutia spied a loose pebble likely from the river on the bank side and with as much might as she could muster she kicked the small pebble as hard as she could. It made a soft thunk off a near-by tree and then rebounded and shot past her. She gaped at the pebble as it flew by nearly hitting her in the process. The stupid pebble had nearly dared to hit her in response to her angrily kicking it with all her might.
In as tight of a line she could muster her jaw clenched she wanted to huff and puff and blow of steam so she meandered her way closer to the water. Her heavy foot fall splaying water in all directions. She though she heard something but ignored it figuring it was not more then a pest. She was a sturdy mare better then most other mares and there petite frames. Surely a much easier target then herself. No one would ever imagine taking on a war mount. Least she thought.

Rime couldn't wait any longer. His mouth was causing him to almost drool in excitement of possible taste of fresh meat. He let out another growl, louder then he had hoped it'd come out. His eyes now full of blood lust and hunger. He came out of his hiding place, but only slightly. He was mostly hidden by the darkness of the night. Now with the sun fully set and the stars above looking down on the two.
He wanted her to see him now. Wanted to see her fear in her eyes as she realized what was going to happen to her. Of course, that's probably the last thing he should have done. She could get away this way. His head was down slightly, in attack position. Almost like a wolf, yet he wasn't in his wolf form. His eyes were fixed on the saddled mare. Growling, and taking slow steps making his presences known.

Omutia gasped when she heard a growl come from not far from her. Her eyes widened and her walk faltered as she nearly stumbled. She looked about in search of the source of the growl. "Who...who...who's.... there..." She couldn't quite make out who she saw when she figured out where the growl came from.
Like a deer caught in the headlights Omutia froze. She could barely make out the figure in the dark of the night with only the stars above but she wasn't alone. "What... what do you... what do you want?"

Rime's bells rang slightly as he moved a few more steps. He was now in the line of light, but only to scare her more. He wasn't in his wolf forum, it hadn't been a totally full moon that night. He continued to let a low growl escape his mouth. His long bottom teeth gave an even more frightening feel too it. She hadn't moved, this would be too easy if she didn't move.
He didn't want it to easy. He made a quick movement as if he was going to jump at her, but stopped himself. He was more trying to scare her into running. He wanted to play a little game of cat and mouse. He wanted to let her feel the panic go through her body as he chased her down, and hurt her. And hopefully killed her. He was hungry, and longed for her flesh.

Omutia mind kicked into gear as a wolf skin walker emerged from the forest. It was odd to hear bells. The wheels of her thoughts were slowly turning and quickly gaining in momentum. The only thought that was being cranked out was one her muscles were only beginning to catch though the moment it settled in she seemed to lurch forward just as he seemed to feign jumping at her.
As if branded within her head the word run screamed. The only thing she could think about was running. The skinwalker had razors for teeth pointed and vicious looking. Though the more she thought about it the more she began to think about the sharp teeth digging into her hide, biting and tearing. She wasn't sure how close the skin walker was but she was sure he was right behind her. The bank by the river was soft and her pounding hooves seemed to sink further in the closer she was to the water which would make sense. She contemplated crossing the river but where she was the river was too deep and it would slow her down more then it would help her. Though the thought caught that if she would be slowed crossing the river the skinwalker would as well. However she was not particularly ready to try the idea. She would run along the bank.
Upon running and thinking Omutia nearly hit a log that lay along the bank. She barely managed to leap over at the last possible moment curing her own distracted thoughts. Going back to think of only running could have been best but she was beyond going back to thinking of nothing but running. She was use to running well enough so she would be able to continue a good ways but she'd never before been chased. There seemed to be a boost of energy pumping through her as she ran hoping she could avoid her soon to be attacker.

As the mare took off running, the real fun was about to begin. Of course he should have probably went after her from the beginning, not letting her have a chance to run. Though, where was the fun in that? His lime green eyes glowed in the night as he moved swiftly behind her. Not as fast as he could go, no. He wanted to let her get a little tired and more panic running threw her before he actually made any motion to his real objective. His pelts tail flapped in the night. The bells upon his saddle, and the sound of his pelt tail was the only real noise he made.
He got good at being stealthy as much as possible when moving. With her loud movements to get away from him, he could easily hide the sound of his hooves as he moved. He followed her on the river bank, he wondered if crossing the river ever crossed her mind at all. He hoped it didn't. Not that he wouldn't follow her, or that he hated water. It just slowed him down more then normal. Making his pelt even more heavy then it should be. Of course, that wasn't too much of a problem. It was easy to deal with, just an annoyance.
He watched her stumble over the log, making him guess that she wasn't totally paying attention to her surroundings. This gave him an upper edge on the situation. He pulled off to the side now, not directly behind her like he was doing. Perhaps a side attack was to call far. He moved faster now, catching up to her slowly. Not really wanting to rush things, and letting them slowly take their course. Though, the long her waited, the harder it would be for him to do what he wanted. He snarled as he was at her back legs, though off to the side. He wanted to make sure she knew he was there, still.
He snapped at her once, but made sure he wasn't close to actually snag her. The second time he moved closer, trying to bite at her hip. Aiming as best as anyone could on a high speed chase as this was.

Always shoot for the Moon... Omutia was determined, she was not a silly little mare. She had been a hard trained messenger horse bred for her war horse size. She'd been hit and swatted, kicked and smacked. In a sense beaten by her care takers for her foul tempers she would not allow this to be her end. Sheer determination would keep her going so long as she was bodily able.
A shrill shriek like whine came out the first time she felt his warm breath upon her back leg. Though she continued moving forward. The first snap had her focused on the course of moving forward. Though he had missed the second snap left a stinging sensation on her rear. She wouldn't be surprised if her blanket got caught in the last snap. Her hind legs began to slip from under her as she edged closer to the river nearly going from under her at the last snap. The water wasn't deep So she continued forward with a new determination. She would at least get to deeper part of the river before she crossed. ...because even if you miss you'll land in the stars.

He pulled away from her, not really looking to see if he had actually gotten her flesh. He had a bit of fabric stuck in his teeth that he didn't want there. Ripping a bit of her blanket off when he pulled away, he shook his head to get it off his teeth. It fell to the ground shortly after. Of course, they were long gone the part where it had landed gently into the wet ground. He could tell her idea was now changed, trying to get away from him every chance she got.
He caught up to her again. Snapped at her again, as he got as close as he could. This time sure to avoid the blanket upon her back. Going straight for the open part of her hips. Aiming a little lower this time towards her leg. If he could do slight damage there, she'd be pretty much screwed. Though, he had a good chance of only landing a bit of her flesh, and not even getting close to bone. Making it still easy for her to get away from him.
He didn't pay attention to the water, even though it was making things a little more difficult. He had something else on his mind, damn it, and he was determined to get what he wanted. Of course, the chances of getting his meal were slowly becoming more impossible, though, he didn't notice at all. He wanted to at least make her feel pain. He could easily pick up a rabbit later. This was fun, at least. Even if he didn't get to eat her. Though, he so desperately wanted to. He so wanted to get what he wanted. He could feel the drool run down his face, just thinking about the taste of her flesh.

She round no relief when his hot breath was no long on her hind quarters. He'd easily caught up to her before when she'd slipped and she was no faster now then she had been then. She just had to continue a little farther, the river was beginning to widen, which would mean it would get deeper.
She hissed when she heard his snap again accompanied by a renewed warmth of his breath. Only this time there wasn't just a sting. Something warm other then his breath began to flow down her hind leg, he caught her and drawn blood this time. Pain seared through Omutia's leg, she ground her teeth together to keep a cry of pain escaping. The vibration that climbed up her legs when her hooves stuck the ground did nothing to help the pain they only increased the pain.
It would likely only take another snap like that and she'd be done for. The mare was not happy about thinking of things ending as such. Her foul attitude to others was a poor thing to leave off with. So many mean things she'd said... she shook her head and turned her attention back to the river. It was getting deeper just a little further... she began to edge further into the water hoping to get away the only thing she hadn't been paying attention to was how the water was acting where the river had widened. The current was picking up and would turn to more rapid like waters.
