"Mmmmgggghghfff," Marcella sighed, expressing her profound tiredness with about the only word that could come close to covering it as she rubbed her hand down her face. She did not care if anyone saw her at the moment, uncharmingly distorting her features with the palm of her hand as she rubbed her eyes, then her cheeks.

She had no real formal certification at the hospital, and so her volunteer work was originally supposed to consist of menial tasks that required no certification to perform. But then all hell had broken loose, and, just for want of ANYONE'S help, the Crystal graduate, among several others, had been tasked with some other more difficult tasks that required certification technically, but really did not quite seem like it. Allowances had to be made, with just how many people had suddenly turned up comatose in beds - there was no way that they could have enough people to take care of all of the mysteriously sleeping patients unless outside cities started turning out an awful lot of helpers.

And Marcella knew that there was just too much paperwork involved there.

So a nurse had shown the girl how to check on the vital signs of the patients, and where to record the numbers on the forms. Everyone had to be checked regularly, with enough of a span of time in between visits that one might think she would have a chance to rest at some point during her shift. But no, a new round of sleeping patients had arrived, and now Marcella had enough people to check on that by the time she was done, it was nearly time to go back to the first one.

She was hardly about to give up her volunteer position just because it was hard, though. If nothing else, she was not sure how else to help. And she had to help. What sort of aspiring doctor did not want to help people?

It just made for a very very tired girl by the end of the day.

Digging out her keys, Marcella stood up straighter and started on the last block's walk to the entrance to Crystal Academy. Maybe she was fifteen minutes past curfew in arriving, and maybe she would get yelled at, but really, she had been tending to the ailing populace of Destiny City. What was the gate guard doing, but sitting in the little booth waiting to hassle students who had been held up?

Looking down into her purse in the fading evening light, Marcella rummaged around for her ID card and keys.

The city had been so quiet lately. Soooo quiet. There weren't nearly as many people on the streets as there usually were. There was a slight buzzing sound that seemed to come from a tree near the guard's booth, as if expressing some sort of anxiety over this fact.

Yet, the clinking sound of keys made the sound hush.

There was another human nearby. Another faint buzz seemed to echo from behind the tree. They had already managed to locate a human in a strange little box, literally just sitting there. Sitting there waiting for his starseed to be claimed. It was almost like they had gotten a gift.

Having no use for strategy, rather suddenly 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 creatures loomed out from their hiding place. They were drawn to the slight metallic jangle of a brunette's keys. Perhaps she wasn't paying attention since she was shuffling through her purse to find some key items, but when she looked up ever so casually after locating her ID card and keys, this girl would find 5 overly large bugs hoovering close, wings gently buzzing as they set their sights on this girl.

They looked like mosquitoes, but they were were at least 2 feet in size. They looked pretty menacing, since it almost looked like they had giant surgical needles glued to their faces and they seemed to continue to get closer to the girl. Amidst that faint buzzing sound, there was something that the girl could barely make out.

It sounded like "Starseeeeeeds."

Hearing a strange sound, Marcella frowned and held her keys in her hand so that they would not make nose as she withdrew them from her purse. Then she carefully zipped it closed, keeping her eyes on ... was that sound coming from the gate booth onto the Academy grounds?

The monster mosquitos answered her question a moment later when they emerged and moved towards her. The girl's eyes went wide, and she tensed, holding her purse by the strap in one hand while she worked to get the keys between her fingers like claws with the other. And then she tried to hold as still as possible - it seemed like a faint hope, wishing that the monsters would move on if she did not move, but Marcella was not keen on engaging the giant bugs if she did not have to. Perhaps the one useful thing she had learned at Crystal was how to defend herself from would-be rapists, but in recent months, what with all the reports of unearthly creatures attacking people, she was realizing that she might not be the best prepared to deal with something that was not ... human-shaped.

Shouldn't bugs that size be extinct?

If it was possible for these overly large insects to smile, they would have done so as sinisterly as possible. They hovered in closer, seeming absolutely free of fear as they drew in closer.

That was, until there was an interruption.

"You have got to be sh*tting me!!! Five of them?!! SERIOUSLY?!!!"

It almost felt as if some sort of narrator should have mentioned that this message was brought to you by the number 5.

"I already told you what you need to do... so just do it already, Iris!"

There was a rather notable groan before a yellow-suited blur rushed up to this dark-haired girl. When the blur stopped close by, it was obvious what sort of person this was. Obnoxiously bright colored schoolgirl uniform and crazy blonde hair. The outfit was telltale that this was, in fact, a Sailor Senshi.

The mosquito youma buzzed in unison with some sort of strange delight within that humming sound. Why go after a normal human's starseed when they could go after a senshi's starseed?

A smirk managed to find a way onto the senshi's lips. "...yeah, I ain't got time t'explain too much... but take this if ya wanna live!"

"...how long have you been waiting to use that line?" a voice groaned out.

"Shut up, cat... I'm doin' ya a favor!" Rather suddenly, a blue-gray bundle of fur was shoved at the civilian without much more of an explanation. Only once the cat was securely in this other girl's arms did the senshi then literally leap away. The strange insects eagerly followed, not wanting to lose such a catch.

"Catch me if ya can! I'll totally zap yer asses!!!"

The bundle of fur groaned again.

As Marcella waited to see if the bugs would make a move, and debated internally whether it would be more effective in drawing attention to yell "rape" or "fire", she suddenly heard voices approaching rapidly. Shouting anything, and doing it soon now seemed like a good plan, and she opened her mouth and took a deep breath, edging a little closer to the wall that ran along one side of the sidewalk.

The breath left her lips in a cough of surprise rather than a shriek, though, as the newcomer to the scene proved to be one of the Sailor Senshi Marcella had been hearing about on the news. Seriously? They were real? The tiny part of her that still refused to grow up had always toyed with the possibility that such people were real, but of course most of Marcella Palomo was far too grown-up for that sort of nonsense - they were people in suits who wanted to make a difference, which was, in and of itself, admirable, but ....

She scanned over the short-haired girl who had all but appeared beside her, dressed in brightly-colored frilly skirts, and the words formed on her lips as she thought it, as well:

"Seriously??"

And then the girl shoved something into her arms. The brown-haired girl pretty much had no choice but to take it, especially since it looked alive. Dearly hoping it was nothing dangerous, Marcella released the grip on her keys, letting them dangle by their ring from her pinkie finger, and gathered the furry bundle in her arms.

Naturally, the super hero girl hopped away. Fortunately, the Sy-Fy Original Movie mosquitoes followed.

... Wait, the skirted "terrorists" fought with cats? This was like some sort of ridiculous internet joke or something, like one of those videos Marcella's freshman year roommate had forced her to watch off YouTube.

"What is going on?" she demanded of no one in particular as she stood there watching the girl in the skirt lead the giant bugs away.

Within the hold of a new perch's arms, the cat used her good forepaw to gently knead her claws delicately against this girl's shirt. ********* was trying to get attention, but at the same time, was also trying to not have to dig her claws into any skin underneath the clothing. She always did like to think she was considerate (though Iris would have argued she was no such thing).

The manx also considered herself pretty polite too (despite how frequently she insisted upon getting attention), so when the brunette asked her question, the feline was more than willing to oblige.

"Those Youma were going to attack you." Hello, Captain Obvious. "I suggest you find us some place safe to hide for the moment." There was a slight pause before the cat added the infamous saying "No, this is not a dream. This is all real." Pale green eyes looked intently towards this girl's face. Certainly, there was a slight concern about leaving Sailor Iris to tend to the swarm of five youma, but ********* continued to remind herself that Sailor Iris was more than capable of taking care of them for a while. So where as, she might have wanted to take a quick glance at what Sailor Iris was doing, ********* refrained.

Sailor Iris had 5 youma on her tail, yet she was still able to notice something as she passed the guard's booth. There was a hand outstretched on the ground, just reaching past the opening to the booth.

"...god damn it... they already got a starseed too?!!!!" She groaned. There still wasn't enough distance between her and the cat yet, so the yellow suited senshi continued to run down the pathway, past the guard booth and onto Crystal Academy's campus. Mentally, Ellie Spectre was cringing upon even patroling near Crystal Academy, let alone fighting youma on the campus itself. So gay! It didn't look like any other civilians were in the area, so once she felt there was plenty of distance, she spun around.

"Alright, which of ya f*ckers' got that starseed? We can make this easy, or we can do this the hard way. Ain't gonna matter much, because I'm gonna get that starseed, no matter what!"

Perhaps the swarm was too stupid to understand, or perhaps they flat out didn't care. When she spun around, they hadn't slowed down at all. So rather than stopping and surrounding her, all five of them flew past, using their sharp noses to attack, cutting Iris along the arms and shoulders.

The blonde hissed at the five different sensations that stung her body, reaching to cover one of the faint now-red lines running just short of her neck. She pulled her gloved hand away, and there was a thin trail of red upon the palm of the glove.

"Got it... hard way it is!" Her mildly blood covered hand tightened into a fist, and a pastel rainbow seemed to flutter out from nowhere. Even though all five had attacked her at once, they hadn't caused any serious damage.

They were weak. Though, one of them was probably stronger than the rest, thanks to the starseed acquisition.

Regardless of whether claws were being used or not, Marcella still ended up with cat paws on her boobs ... ordinarily, this might not have bothered her too much (cats were cats), but something about the fact that this one was talking made it that much more awkward.

Giving the tail-less cat a look somewhere between "offended" and "can't freaking believe this", Marcella gaped as the creature explained that she had been assaulted by "youma" and should hide now. And apparently this was not a dream.

At the sounds of shouting from the skirted girl who had stuck her with the cat, Marcella's hazel eyes flicked upwards to glance at where the distant battle was now being waged. She stood there a moment longer, then looked down at the cat before pursing her lips into a slight frown.

"If I'm not dreaming, then that means she might really need my help," Marcella muttered. Whatever was going with monsters, she would have to let the senshi handle it, but no doubt the mundane girl's first-aid skills would come in handy for dealing with those stings. If nothing else, Marcella could call an ambulance if it proved to be necessary.

And so, with her purse dangling from her crooked elbow, her keys dangling from her fingers, and a talking cat held in a careful embrace, Marcella crouched and scurried forward, closer to the battle, to hide behind a bush. Hardly a quiet advance with her load of stuff, but she still wanted to see how things would play out.

And if it would indeed prove to be a dream or a hallucination. Didn't dreams tell you all the time that you weren't dreaming?
PostPosted: Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:38 am

In a knowing tone, the manx let the girl know "She may need your help, but that will come later, I promise!" If she had a tail, it would have flicked slightly after her comment, but alas, no tail meant no flicking action. The feline did not comment about the girl's choice in hiding places, but when they were behind the bush, she began to struggle slightly within her arms.

"You can set me down here" she instructed in an extremely pleasant voice. Having one leg in a cast was such a burden. It really was. It was so much easier to give out henshin pens and cellphones as a cat, rather than the way she was about to.

The youma swarm almost seemed entranced for a moment by the senshi's attack. It might not have been bright, but it was a bit brighter than the other stuff nearby. And it was pretty.

One of the Youma curiously buzzed as it hovered forward, and all it got for its efforts was a rainbow suddenly wrapping up around it. Sailor Iris then flung her arm hard so she could smack this giant insect against the ground. Upon impact, there was a sickening SPLAT sound, followed by the Youma dissipating into an ashy substance.

The rest of the swarm did not seem to like this, for it didn't even take but a few seconds for them to attack the senshi again. Again, their noses cut against her, and one of them even managed to slice through her glove a bit. Naturally, the senshi's hand twitched in pain, and unfortunately, loosened to a point that made her attack disappear. "Damn it!" the yellow suited scout grunted out.

The monster mosquitoes buzzed in an intrigued manner.

Pleased to have one less thing to carry, Marcella obligingly set the cat down as carefully as possible. Since the creature had a cast on its leg, she kept the cat close, so it could lean against her leg if it needed to, at least for a moment; once she was no longer burdened by the feline, the girl's muscles tensed as she scanned the battleground for the next closest thing to hide behind. She could probably just creep closer and be careful, and that way, if the strange girl in the skirt needed help, Marcella would be nearby.

... And it looked like a good idea, too, to be closer. Once one of the giant monster mosquitoes had been vanquished, the others attacked the other girl again. Marcella's conflicting instincts told her at once to both get closer and help and to run away and watch her own hide.

She looked down at the cat again. The manx seemed to have a good idea already what was going on, so maybe she could give some advice.

"Do I keep waiting here while that girl gets hurt more? Or is there something I can do?" Her voice was hushed but her tone still carried a demanding edge to it. "Are you two saving me, or do I have to save you?" Though she had entirely no idea what, if anything, she could do against mosquito monsters, the feline's gimpy leg and the fact that the girl summoning rainbows seemed to be getting overwhelmed did not give Marcella much confidence in the former option.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 22, 2010 7:52 pm

The moment the feline was set on the ground, she said in a playful tone "Don't blink!" In all honesty, it was probably going to receive the opposite reaction. It was like telling someone to not think about water when they really needed to pee. It was almost impossible. Yet within 1 second after making such a statement, the seemed to grow rather quickly, changing from a simple tailless cat to the shape of a girl with silvery-blue hair and a top hat. The arm that corresponded with her broken leg dangled limply at her side uselessly, the cast itself seeming to disappear with this form. With a small giggle, the girl (who had pale cat ears peeking out from the rim of her hat) added "You might miss something important if you blink now!"

For a moment, the girl came across as if she were a sphinx, offering a statement which could almost be considered a riddle. "We are saving you, and you are saving us." For a moment, the ********* green eyes seemed to drift back to the action, managing to catch sight of Iris' newly formed rainbow latching onto another youma. As she turned back to face the girl she was keeping company at the moment, she clarified slightly. "Sailor Iris is tough and can handle herself quite well." It was a good thing the Senshi of Rainbows was not within earshot.

Regardless of this girl's reactions to the sudden cat-to-girl transformation, ********* continued onward as if it was business as usual. She was quite adjusted to the whole "Oh my god, IT IS NOT A CAT" reaction, which was about the same as the "Oh my god, THE CAT CAN TALK" reaction. "Now, I have something to show you." With that, the girl held out her cuffed left hand in front of the brunette to see. With her palm held out open and flat, ********* began to concentrate. The space above her palm began to glow, faintly at first, but gradually growing brighter with each second that passed. Eventually two objects began to form in that glowing space. One looked like an older model cell phone, and the other... was that a pen?

Marcella did not blink, but she was reminded of a similar adage regarding telling people not to do things; as a result, she was thinking about elephants when the cat changed into a person. Or a cat person. Leaning a little to get a better view, the human's brows furrowed as she tried to gauge whether or not those were real ears or not. So busy was she, gaping like a fish at the transformation the feline had undergone, that Marcella did not quite hear the cat-person warn her about missing something important.

She came back to reality (or whatever was apparently trying to pass for it at the moment) somewhere around the "sailor iris" part, and cocked her head the other way, wondering if she had been somehow poisoned by one of the mosquitos and was now flipping out on some sort of drug or toxin.

"What's a 'sailor iris'?" Marcella asked, her confusion taking the form of an angry, terse edge in her tone. "And what are you? What is going on here?"

She was about to add, "And why do you need me?" to the onslaught of questions as the cat held out a hand in an offering gesture, and somehow manifested a pen and a phone. They evidently needed the aspiring young doctor for more than she had originally imagined, and it was a lot weirder than she had originally imagined, and somehow, the sudden weirdness, this offering to her, by a cat person, of the two actually reasonably normal-looking objects ... just reassured Marcella that explanation would be coming.

"Are those for me?" she inquired, coming out with possibly the stupidest question she possibly could, but, well, what else could she say to all this?
PostPosted: Sat Oct 09, 2010 11:09 pm

"That's a Sailor Iris!" With her only good arm occupied with the objects at hand, the girl strangely lifted up one leg and pointed towards the action with a toe. Nothing super flexible, it was just merely using something other than her head. Her big toe attempted a wiggle or two, but it wasn't anything noticeable.

Pulling her leg back into a normal position, she continued to answer questions rather politely despite the situation. "I am *********, and I am a cat, whether or not you believe such is up to you. And I would have thought you would have noticed the Youma that almost attacked you."

With a delicate nod of her head, causing a faint jingle to escape her bell about her neck, she confirmed that the objects at hand were indeed Marcella's. "Take them both, but tuck the phone away someplace safe for now. If you could please, take the pen, then shout out Asclepius Power Make-up!"

********* winked her eye. "And shout it like you mean it!"

As the cat lifted one foot off the ground to point, Marcella leaned slightly out of the way for a moment, and looked as directed at the girl still engaged in combat with the giant mosquitoes. Then she took the phone and pen, holding them for a moment before dropping the phone into her purse and zipping it shut.

She twirled the pen between two fingers, and was opening her mouth to ask a question when the cat then directed her to shout magic words. The girl's brows drew down into a scowl almost instantly, and she put one hand on her hip.

"Okay, seriously?" Marcella made a face. "Will this really help? When do the camera guys come out of hiding and everyone starts laughing at me. You're not allowed to put this on television. I won't allow it," she insisted, clenching her fist around the pen.

Hazel eyes tracked to one side as she spoke, following one of the mosquitoes that had moved away from the others. And started coming towards Marcella and the cat again. Then the girl looked at the pen. Then at the Sailor Iris girl.

Brandishing her fist, still holding the pen, she conceded: "Fine, but if you're just doing this for some stupid reality show or whatever, I will be extremely pissed off." Maybe this was all serious. Maybe it had to be. Her mind flickered to the security guard slumped dead against the glass inside the booth at the gate.

Squeezing her eyes shut as though it would offer her some semblance of protection against feeling stupid, Marcella took a deep breath and shouted out, "Asclepius Power Make-up!"

And, instead of some chuckling, smarmy television host stepping out of nowhere to shove a microphone in her face for some sort of Candid Camera act, Marcella found herself bathed in warm light, obscuring her vision momentarily. When the light cleared and her feet touched the ground again (Apparently she had been floating, too, without realizing it? How did that happen?), she was no longer in her comfy-yet-stylish flats, but in a pair of blue heels that matched but were not the same. Marcella spread her arms and looked down at her new outfit, blinking in surprise. She had to expect some weirdness after the talking cat and all but, seriously? How was this supposed to help.

"... Okay, now I'm good for prom, I guess...."
PostPosted: Tue Oct 19, 2010 8:17 pm

Another loud splating sound echoed through the air as well as another grunt from the yellow suited senshi. The blonde didn't seem to notice the glow behind the bushes as yet another girl became victim to that thing called senshi-dom. She was more focused on what she had left to defeat. She had managed to get rid of 3 of the 5 youma, leaving two for her to fight against. Her uniform had seen better days, for it now had thin slices edged with crimson.

In all honesty, she was breathing harder than usual, for she was actually feeling pretty drained. She was only good for 1 more attack, and there were two youma left. There was no way she'd be able to hit both in one more ribbon.

Since there was no more reason for her to retain that human-like shape of hers, as the newly discovered senshi transformed, the silver haired girl shrunk back to her usual form, complete with the powder blue cast.

With a smile, the feline jested "Somehow I doubt you'd want to go to prom in that... but that'd be up to you! Right now we have some serious business to tend to!" There was a pause, then a nod of the head. "Sailor Asclepius, you need to concentrate. I need you to create your Eucrasia Remedy... Sailor Iris is going to need it soon." Despite all the cheer, ********* had quite the matter of fact tone to it.

"Who is Sailor Asclepius?" Marcella stammered, though a part of her had a good feeling she already knew the answer to that question. She felt her cheeks growing hot, and, in spite of having grown quite practiced at wearing high heels, the girl found herself wobbling a little on her present pair of ... magical shoes.

"And seriously, what kind of outfit is this? Like, battle-toga or something?" Apparently all worry that noise would attract the attention of the giant bugs had fled from the brown-haired girl's mind. She fiddled with the ribbons of her outfit a little, and then seemed to notice that the cat-girl was just a cat again. Marcella put a palm to her face momentarily and sighed heavily. Then she muttered, "If you've drugged me or something, I will press charges. This is ... this is ridiculous."

Marcella squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, then took another deep breath and let it out. Raising her head, she opened her eyes, yearning for something normal to meet them. But of course it was all still there: the big evil bugs, the girl in the skirt doing battle with them, the talking cat with the cast on her arm....

No, there was something normal. Sailor Iris needed her help. The way the cat had just spoken to her - it was not a joke. Marcella could see the blood.

"So... Am I like some sort of reincarnation of the Greek god of medicine or something?" she then inquired, studying the battle as one arm now hung limply at her side, while she touched the snake-and-rod emblem at her chest with the other hand. "How do I 'create' the remedy? What am I supposed to concentrate on?"
