Marcella edged into the dormitory common room with her arms crossed, and took up a spot on the wall about six feet from the doorway. With all the insanity going on in the city, the Crystal dorms were not letting people out at ALL at night, and now, her particular dormitory had decided that it would be a really good idea to schedule an event for everyone to keep the girls stimulated but indoors on a Friday night.
It was seriously stupid. REQUIRED fun was no fun at all. And Marcella knew from her work in the afternoons that the hospital needed her more than any preppy and contrived social function. How seriously dumb was it, that she was not allowed to volunteer at the hospital to try to take care of the Destiny City outbreak, and instead was supposed to sit around inside in the evenings to hide from it?
She had a running countdown in her planner until she was officially graduated from Crystal, and she could move out and actually try to help instead of ... sticking her head in the sand and attending an utterly dumb dance party in her dormitory to pretend like nothing was going on.
And so, determined not to have fun, the girl had put on her favorite yellow dress and one of her more comfortable pairs of dress shoes, and planted herself as freaking wall ivy two arm's lengths away from the door.
... There were a lot of girls in their dorm building, though, so Marcella hoped that eventually she would run into someone she knew. And they could complain about how dumb this was together.

Kaatje would have skipped. Could have skipped, maybe, as her mother was one of the unfortunates in Destiny City General, out closer to the suburbs than Memorial. Everyone was willing to cut anyone with a comatose relative some slack, especially when all she wanted to do was sit in her empty, empty room and paint pictures. She would have asked Cassia Katsaros to hang out with her, except...
Except Kaatje was friends with Cassia Katsaros, and that automatically meant that any party in Crystal, Kaatje had an invite. Not only did she have an invite, she was obligated to go. And so Kaatje had turned up to the mandatory 'movie night' of the Crystal second floor girls, sulking near a wall. Most everyone seemed to be avoiding a specific wall, and so she meandered over there "casually"--Kaatje did nothing casually. Everything was done with purpose, and this purpose was to form a cordon of wall-ivy with someone she recognized as Marcella... Marcella someone.
"What up," said the redheaded girl as she slumped onto the wall next to Marcella.

"Oh, not much," she replied casually, tilting her head backwards and to the side a little to look at the girl who had joined her. Marcella's head remained a point of contact with the wall as she arched her back away from it a little; her arms were still crossed in spite of the fact that she recognized the other girl. She was already fairly determined not to have fun tonight, but if this other person wished to commiserate, the outbound senior supposed that was alright.
A moment later, she stood up straight, no longer leaning on the wall, but kept her arms crossed. "I just sort of got here, so I haven't looked around much yet. Do they have sodas or something to drink, at least? Since they forced us all to come?"
In one corner of the room, a DJ stereo system suddenly started throbbing a bass beat, and Marcella rolled her eyes. A moment later, though, the speakers' volume dropped and finally hissed with a bit of static before falling silent. The people in the corner running it scurried around, giving the room a few more minutes of blessed (relative) quiet while they checked the nest of cords and cables.
