Li Wei:
It had been an eventful few days to say the very least. No doubt his guardian would be pacing circles in the sand by the time he returned home for a rest, but it couldn't be helped. A mortal couldn't cross the continent near as quick as a god. It would have taken them weeks just to reach the closest neighboring pride, months to reach the big-water, and even longer to track down the surrounding prides.

The ocean was perhaps his favorite part of the trip so far. He never in his life thought he'd see so much water in one place. He'd seen the dead sea, and the smaller seas spotting the land but it was nothing compared to the endless waters. He couldn't wait to get back and tell his new 'brothers' about it. No doubt they'd harass him for tales of the 'big water' for months to come.

Today, however, was different. The sand he stood on was untouched by water and seemed just as endless as the ocean had been. Waves of sand rose and fell under the wind's currents, preventing anything green from growing there. He'd only heard rumors of a pride living in the wasteland. How anything could live, and thrive, was beyond him. Sure enough, he'd crossed a pride marker not too long ago. After landing in the shadow of a dune, the young god veiled himself in his mortal form and continued on forward, eyes squinted against the heat and the occasional sandy breeze.

Maua:
There was nothing to deny the fact that the past few days have been... interesting. In fact, Maua had not had this much fun in a very long time; or at least she thought she hadn't, because in all honesty, she couldn't quite recall her past lives. A shame, really, once she stopped to think about it. Alas, following the lithe god of Peace was entertaining, to say the least, and it was doing miracles to her mental health and balance, though she was making sure not to voice that much around, strictly keeping her findings to herself.

She'd kept her distance when she'd felt the male needed it, if only because she really didn't want to have to give chase later on. A safe distance was a good distance, every now and again; she was sure the guy would drop from brain overload or something if she teased him 24/7. Maua would have, in fact, kept her distance today had she not caught scents of a pride nearby. The aura coming off of the lands in question were enough to make her ears perk and her eyes narrow; she teleported and appeared by Li's side in an instant, "You probably shouldn't go there," she told him matter-of-factly, as is she were commenting on the weather, "Or maybe I should go first," her wings vanished from view, her tail changing to resemble a lion's one as she disguised herself up as a mortal, "I don't think this is your sorta place, no offense."

Li wei:
Li's normally passive expression had become one of focus and anxiety. As she appeared next to him the cub nearly jumped out of his mortal mask. His illusion flickered for a moment before he re-focused and solidified himself once more. While he was growing used to the ever-present of the female, he wasn't used to anything simply popping in after him. Especially when skirting the boarder of a pride's territory. The nightmares hadn't let him be, and it seemed with the female around they were growing worse. He'd lost sleep, sometimes waking up in the middle of a dead sleep with a cry. Perhaps it was because his horn was beginning to grow in and his memories were slowly beginning to settle.

He ran a paw over his face and let it drop back to the ground. "I have to." He looked over to her and slowly worked seriousness back into his expression. "This is my job...I'm just looking for now- so I can find it later."

Maua:
Maua watched him out of the corner of an eye, arching a brow as he spoke. She'd been around him quite a bit, and she'd rarely, if ever, seen him get serious, and gosh, she'd teased him enough to warrant that, that was for sure - still the poor little dude seemed unable to snap at her. It was almost pathetic, in a way, not to mention cute, "Uhhhh... no you don't," she told him as she took a step forward, "Even if it's your job, I hardly think it's a good idea for you to go up ahead, ALONE in a pride that I'm telling you .... is not your type," and by that, she meant they were violent, which was putting it nicely, from the waves and aura she was getting from the place. She was wondering if Li could feel it, or if it was just her, "At any rate, getting yourself killed is sorta counter productive for doing a job. I'm pretty sure."

Despite the time she'd spent with him, she had no idea why she was following him in the first place. Some says, she kept quite near, while others she gave him several miles of space; still keeping near enough that he could track his familiar feel down. Yet still, had anyone stopped and asked the small goddess why she kept at it, she would have been entirely unable of telling them just why. It had to do with the way she felt around him, but that wasn't all there was to it, not by a long shot, "I'm going to go ahead, just in case," that said, she took a few paces ahead of him, intent on checking the place out. She couldn't have told you WHY on earth she felt a responsibility for him, or why she was bothering to protect him.

She just was.

Li Wei:
"I have to be fair." He wrinkled his nose up in a pitiful, far-shot attempt at a frown. The exression was completely forgien to him, as was the emotion associated with it. He'd seen Squall scowl and glare- two expressions that worked extremely well for the lion's means. For the most part, the lion was seen as gruff and intimidating. He was rarely denied from getting his way- accept by Li of course, who knew better.

His 'scowl' however, made him look like he was trying to fight off a sneeze. He was flattered by the offer, in truth. None had ever wanted to help him in his duties- at least he didn't think so...

"I have to give everyone the same chance...no matter what. It wouldn't be fair to turn my back just because it...didn't smell too right." He continued forward, throwing his head and tail into the air and throwing his chest out. Maybe if he looked strong she'd let him go.

As she bolted in front of him his jaw fell open. Oh no she didn't!

Maua:
Oh yes she did!

"Scowling doesn't suit you," she told him, peeking over her shoulder, "Also, you're not quite doing it right, honey. You gotta furrow your brows a little more, and narrow your eyes. Sometimes helps to lips your lip just a bit into a sneer, so you're showing some fangs," she offered him her own, sharp, intimidating scowl, which swiftly dissolved into a smirk as she turned to look away from him and continue walking forward, this time faster so she could take the lead again. She planned on getting there first, and damnit she WOULD manage it, even if he was older and technically had the advantage, as far as physical power probably went (though then again, he was pudgy, and cute, so she wasn't sure if in a race, she'd mange to over take him).

"It's not that it doesn't smell too right. The whole feel is off. This is my sort of place, love. Which means it's totally not yours," she was now climbing a dune, her head peeking over the edge, but only more desert stretched before them. Her head turned this way and that, and then raised up to sniff at the air before she continued walking, "You can put up a show all you want, Li, but..." she stretched a hind paw and placed it directly in front of him, waiting to see if he'd trip on it, just to make her point, "I think you're cute and fuzzy. It means you're out of place in a place like this hon. No offense. I like you this way anyhow."

Li Wei:
Li blinked... furrow his brow? Show his teeth? He began squishing his face up, narrowing his eyes and pushing his brows together, eyes crossing in an attempt to see if he was doing it right- of course, unsuccessfully. He slowly pulled his lips up, showing an awkward flash of teeth that looked more or less like a lopsided grin than a growl. His brows looked more confused than angry, and his wrinkled nose only gave the effect that he was still waiting for a sneeze to over-take him.

He lifted his head, waiting to see if his look would gain Maua's approval. It was then she turned and flashed a scowl of her own, earning a yelp from the god and a leap backwards. He brought one of his paws up, recoiling from the look.

That...wasn't fair.

Huffing, he shook himself off and broke into a run. He didn't have wings, he wasn't a good fighter- but running was something he could do right. If only to flee from danger, if needed.

Besides...he'd not be able to live with himself if someone else got hurt doing his job!

Maua:
He was cute.

There was just no denying that, and Maua was having a really hard time not d'awwwwing at his efforts to scowl, "Honey, I think the cross eye thing is a bit much. Might wanna practice in front of your reflection in a river - it'd probably be a ton easier than trying to see down your nose, stop it," she watched as he recoiled when she showed him her own expression, and rolled her eyes, though the tug of her maw indicated she was actually rather amused at the situation.

At least though, to his credit, he didn't trip over the foot she'd extended, and instead turned and ran up ahead. Arching a brow, she let him take the lead for a moment before pushing herself forth; she didn't need her wings to race him, "I still think this is a really bad idea!" she called from behind, though seeing as how he WAS indeed a good runner, she eventually slowed down to a trot and watched him vanish over a dune. ********, she really didn't particularly enjoy running, "BAD IDEAAAAAAA~~!" she called, placing a paw to coop her maw, as if to enhance the sound of her voice as she called after him.

Something told her she should keep near though, and that in mind, the goddess-in-disguise picked up her pace and trotted after him, intent on finding him.

Li Wei:
Li's jaw set as he ran forward, leaving a trail of sandy clouds in his wake. In flight, often, he'd call up little whisps of wind under his hooves to leap and run over. He found he quite liked the sand.

At her call he turned his head over his shoulder and leapt out into the air, calling a few small whisps to push him up and over a smaller dune- damn hard things to climb otherwise.

Snickering, he turned ahead- just in time to see a blob of red rushing at him. "OH GOODNESS!" He 'swore', pawing at the air in a futile attempt to stop himself. The disguised lion came to a full and complete stop on the back leg of a very large, very solid lion.

The male slowly turned his head, golden eyes blazing from a black mask. To Li's horror, the male had been out hunting- and had suceeded in crushing a hare's spine in his powerful jaws. He opened his mouth to mutter an apology, only to find himself making a high-pitched squeaking sound.

Maua:
God damn, he was FAST. How the hell was he doing that?

Deciding that she would later ask Li (if only because knowledge was power), the female goddess pushed herself forward, her paws sinking into the sand as she ran. She was discovering very, very fast, that she did not like sand. Not at all. Not one bit.

She would have taken a rest after a particularly tall dune when she heard Li's voice, calling over the sand as he 'swore'. That didn't sound at ALL like something the male would do, unless... well, ********, "Ahhhh, this is so ******** unfair!" she growled as she kicked the sand in frustration with one paw, frowned, and then ran forth again, climbing over a dune in time to see a large, VERY large, red male looming over Li's form, "I told you this was a bad idea!" she called from her place on the dune, looking both mildly bemused and ..... mildly concerned. She was hoping her call would tear the red male's attention away from Li's quivering form, "God, you never listen! Why do you never listen?" she allowed herself to slide down the dune and trotted the last few paces towards the pair, stopping just a small, short distance away from them, waiting to see what would happen, though it was clear she would rush forward if the red lion made any strange movements.
