Mom's Little Helper- Minny helps her parents run a small stand at the local farmers market. And by helps, she means that sometimes she helps take the lighter stuff down from the truck and then runs around the market looking for entertainment. Occasionally she will stay by their stand and shout to the customers to come see their products. They sell various fruits and vegetables as well as different honey products and candles.
Candle making- Minny spends at least one night a week making candles with her mother. This gives them time to catch up over Minny mixing in colors and Mom pouring scalding hot wax into candle molds. The wax they use is a mixture of store bought and wax from their own bees. Minny is also currently trying her hand at soy wax candles.
Gardening- With living on a farm comes gardening, and Minny has her own corner of the expansive garden, across the walkway from her mothers. At the moment her corner has a small row of green beans, red bell peppers, sugar snap peas and zucchini. Along the fence she has California Poppys and Tansy Phacelias. She adores the mix of purple and orange!
Virtues:
Creative "having the ability or power to create"
-Just like any kid, Minny loves to draw, color, fingerpaint, and do pretty much anything else that allows her to be creative and/or messy. She has such a big imagination, and she loves to use it every chance she can get. This means games of make-believe are always over the top, and she and her brother Zack can get lost for hours fighting pirates, running a bakery complete with mud pies, or catching the cat burglar.
Organized "formed into a structured or coherent whole"
-For a kid her age, Minny is surprisingly organized. She was taught very very young that everything had it's place, and when it wasn't in it's place it got thrown out. After a few of her favorite toys and shirts ended up in trash bags because she thought her Mom was kidding, Minny took the organizing thing to heart. Now her room is neat and tidy, the doll sin the doll house, the animals in their "zoo" box, and her clothes folded up in her dresser. The only thing that isn't perfect is her bed, which is never made.
Trusting "trustful: inclined to believe or confide readily; full of trust"
- Minny thinks that everyone is a good person and she can trust them. She doesn't think twice about wandering around alone, because there's "no way someone can take me while I'm in a market full of people." She also doesn't mind walking home from school alone. She spends a lot of time trying to convince perfect strangers to buy produce from her, so talking to strangers is another thing she doesn't have a problem with.
Her easily won trust also means that if someone makes a mistake, she will forgive them a lot sooner than most people. She realizes that everyone makes mistakes and that people should learn from them, but not be punished for them.
Enthusiastic "having or showing great excitement and interest"
-Minny is an excitable child. Everything she does is an adventure, from getting up in the morning to going to bed at night. This is one of the reasons she loves to go to markets, because every day is different. She will spend hours wandering about, and when her mother gives her a task she jumps on it with ferocity. Even if it's something as simple as "Go buy a couple apples dear", Minny will turn the walk over into a dangerous journey through the jungle, complete with man eating lions and scary natives.
Flaws:
She thought up a lie, and thought it up quick! "fast thinker"
-The problem with being creative is that it is a power that comes with responsibility. A power that Minny has yet to grasp. She is a quick thinker, and if something goes wrong, she's ready with a story to explain it without getting herself into trouble. She knows she lying, and part of her feels bad about it, but a bigger part doesn't want to get into trouble. The stories vary from plausible to completely outrageous, but the fact is she always has a way to blame someone else. "How did the lamp break?" "Well, I was sitting there watching tv when the cat came in...." Her parents have learned to see through her stories though, and she usually ends up in more trouble than if she had just told the truth. She is frequently grounded in her room for lying.
Nit-picky "finicky; overly critical; concerned with insignificant details"
- Maybe its because she is already pretty organized. Or maybe it's her Virgo nature. Either way, Minny is very particular about the way things are done. If you are playing pirates with her, you have to play by her rules. Blocks are stacked a certain way, board games are played with certain "special" rules and if these rules aren't followed, she throws a fit. It starts with her pursing her lips together and staring at the person with a level gaze, just like her mother does. Then she simply stands up, and stomps away without saying a word.
Naive "marked by or showing unaffected simplicity and lack of guile or worldly experience"
-Minny is only 9, and being that young means that she has yet to experience a lot in the world. So to her, everything is in the outside world is rainbows and sugar sticks, and the bad guys always lose. The fact that all she reads are stories about knights saving damsels, Mother Goose rhymes, and the only movies she likes to watch are Disney movies. All of these fuel her "The world rights itself and the good guys win" notions. She is also easily tricked. If someone told her it was supposed to rain today, you can bet Minny would come to school wearing rainboots and carrying an umbrella, even if there wasn't a cloud in the sky.
Over enthusiastic "unduly enthusiastic"
- Minny is excitable. The problem is, when she gets an idea for an adventure, she runs with it. Sometimes literally. She has gotten lost on more than one occasion. When she gets really excited, her voice gets louder and higher and she starts bouncing from leg to leg. Her parents tend to try and ignore her at this point because she constant talking can get on one's nerves.
