Please answer the following: What weapons interest you? Do you want to learn a rigid weapon or a fluid weapon? Blade or Bludgeon? Short or Long? Strong or Fast? Form or Application?

i was hoping people would sort of throw out styles and weapons(cause there are so many) and then i would consider them and decide.

The combination of long and fast is difficult with rigid blades. However, take a peek at naginata-do. Kung fu styles also often use halberds and spears.
Do not use long rigid swords. They are heavy, slow and unwieldy. Miyamoto called long sword users cowards. For good reason.

i think you should start with something easy like a staff then upgrade to something a little more difficult like sword or nunchucks(cant spell it).its easier to do that so you can combine all of them like doing a staff form move but only with a sword or some other weapon. and that way your not intirly a begginer in any other weapons.

ryusei99 lets see, i like, rigid, blade, long, fast. application? not sure what you mean. Rapier if you don't mind mixing in Western arts. Otherwise a xian (Chinese Long Sword) is a good match. Also, there is the Korean longsword, which is between a xian and a western long sword in terms of weight. Katana can be wielded quickly, but it takes training to draw quickly. That's if you want swords. Other bladed weapons are halberds, such as the Naginata and the Kwon-do. You could also go the route of one of the longer-bladed Yari/Nuki spears, or the Nagamaki, which is a katana length blade with an equally long handle. I have personally always found Nagamaki intriguing weapons. There's also the b*****d Sword, which is a Western weapon that has a Long Sword blade attached to a Great Sword handle. Arming Swords are fairly quick, as they are shorter than Long Swords, and are one-handed. Pretty much any of the Cut-and-Thrust model of European sword (which is almost anything that's a pre-renaissance battle sword; versus the Rapier, which was a street weapon). European pole-arms are many and various, though many are meant to essentially stab a horse out from under a cavalryman. But if you shorten the pole some, you get a fairly good, fast weapon. Joshua Kenzo is correct that long and fast tends to be difficult with rigid blades, but it's not impossible.

Oregon, i did searches, the closest thing i could find was the California Naginata Federation....and well.....that would be one hell of a commute.

I trained quite a bit with a jo and katana in my aikido days. The shihan of our organization really stressed weapons training. He emphasised that every movement in aikido, even in empty-handed techniques, was based on weapons forms.
More recently, my weapons training has been in kali, which trains in just about every melee weapon imaginable. The old dual-wielding-obsessed D&D geek in me is especially partial to the two-stick forms that kali is best known for. biggrin

There was a fantasy con in town where they got out the padded weapons and played around. Me and my buddy smoked the Lord of the Rings fan club. Good ol' kali.
