Sunagakure is surrounded by all sides by massively thick walls of stone. The gates act as a great defense, for they force all invaders of the village into a narrow corridor, which the shinobi of the village can defend well. By channelling the enemies into these hot gates, they become a perfect spot to devise a phalanx, having a small group of shinobi defeat a far larger approaching attack. Furthermore, the outside of the walls act as a defender against the elements. Though they may be breached by such massive natural disasters as the Sandstorm, the walls act as a good buffer from the wind of the land, as they provide for less great gusts then the unprotected areas of the Land of Wind receive. The outer edge of the walls have many tiers on which many shinobi guards are placed. These look like massive steps, and are used to create a climbing defense against attackers that can avoid entering through the main gate. Occasionally, spread throughout the wall, there are underground bunkers placed to provide for sleeping areas for watchmen that are off duty, or various other strategic means, such as bunkers for supplies. The largest of these gates are to the east. This gate is far wider then the others, but also features a massive stone and iron gate that can be closed to block entry. Other then this, there are two far more narrower gates to the north and to the south. These gates are only wide enough so that three full grown men can walk down them at a time, and although they have no doors, the village is not above collapsing the rocks around them in order to shut them off. Precautions have already been made for such a potential necessity, and both of these gates feature hidden explosive tags that can easily collapse them quickly.
