I have upgraded to 12 defense Alloy armor, the reason I kept it until HR 11, because it has the best skills that come with it(Speed Sharpener,Trapmaster, Critical Eye +1(mines +3 though))
Anywho I'm about to change armors should I start with Rathian armor or wait until Rathlos armor?
I don't like buying something knowing there is something better coming up.

I think it's a matter of personal preference. vs monster match-ups matter, yes, but you're more likely to get hit by a non-element attack than, in this case, a fire, lightning, or even dragon attack.
But given that it's what you're basing your choice on, Rathian is the anti-fire armor compared to Rathalos. On top of that, there's the +20 HP boost to consider. Rathalos is better off for attack and defense, and whether you decide to gem the Defense Down(S) out or not is negligible when it comes to defensive comparison. There's also the slots to consider, but at that point in the game, you'll probably need it to just gem out a few bad skills. But if you want slots, Rathian is again the armor of choice.
I personally think Rathian is better, but I do like the Rathalos female set quite a bit. Mmm, a**. :3

Low rank I would say Rathian
At High Rank I would say Rathalos because of Mind's eye

I never found Mind's Eye useful. In fact, I found it counter-productive. Sure, it could save you from taking a hit if you react accordingly, but as far as I could tell a null'd attack reduces your Sharpness more than an attack that does normal damage. Which means, unless you're going to a safe MAP, you're giving the monster a chance to bash you. Which is never good. It'll probably be more helpful to just charm/gem it in.
On the other hand, Sabertooth(G) has a 55% affinity. Just wearing full 'los+ turns it into 75%. Gem in five more points and you get 85%. That's the only reason I'd ever wear 'los+.

Rathian is kinda useless though.... I personally do not like the Rathian armor, the skills are kinda useless if you ask me. I mean the +50 Health is instantly negated by eating at the canteen (it's only +40, but that's all you need) the fire res doesn't help all that much, but can be useful when taking on like 80% of the monsters in the game, lol.
The Rathlos armor has the Crit Eye +2 and Mind's Eye (these are all of the + armor sets) You can gem up with the 6 slots that the armor has +3 from an accessory, and +1 from your weapon (depending on what weapon it is). Crit Eye+3 will make your damage go up, plus the mind's eye to make it so that your weapons don't deflect, and maybe if your accessory (or if the armor has room) slot it in or add in (if your accessory has it) Sharpness +1 which will make your life much easier.

I only remembered this morning, and you're right, yes. But rather than using the canteen for an HP boost, you could always chug a Max/Ancient Potion for better canteen boosts. And the 'ian armor really is just fire gear, making life a little easier if you like taking flaming hits to the groin.
Although, about the accessory. I've never seen or heard of a 3-slot charm. Exactly how rare are those? D:

Agnaktor, Uragaan, Peco, and if he/she is in the mood Alatreon, are all good monsters to take fire res into, but the best defense against these monsters is not elemental res, but super high effin defense or knowing exactly when to dodge. I could argue that absolutely no skills are better then Evade+2 Evade Up and Speed Sharpening/Sharpness+1, but there are a lot of other play styles and better tactics. High Rank Volcano mines can net them sometimes, especially the delivery quests in that area... They are insanely rare though, I can guarantee that they exist though and they are amazing... three extra slots will make you a very happy person. All of mine are 1 slot, but my friend picked up a 3 slot one.... He plays a lot though (HR 113 or something atm I think... depressing)

Thanks for your opinions I'll go with ian armor, but getting a ian plate is a 2-5% chance out of carve and rewards...
Also skills sucha as sharpness +1, Attack+1, Health+1 etc.
Do you need +10 in order for it to take effect?
Say I have a total of +6 attack via slots, Does my attack raise or do I need +10?

Rather, you need to get +10 to get AttackUP(S), +15 for AttackUP(M), and +20 for AttackUP(L) Sharpness +1 only requires you get +10 of the corresponding skill, there is no Sharpness +2, or 3 sadly, lol.

personally, i just abused ian armor for pretty much all of my low rank quests because earplugs was amusing especially since i could cancel demonic protection with a few decorations also, the health +50 was useful as a buffer in case id get carted
after hitting high rank, i didnt like the los+ set very much so i overforged my los armor, with talismans i can hit attck(L) or heat res(hi) with crit eye(+1), just as useful for the raw damage compared to minds eye with crit eye (+2 or 3)

in terms of tri, any lance with the Agna set alongside it instantly makes the game too easy. Rush through any enemy's strongest attack with your shield up, and that's it. I actually kept the regular set and upped it as much as possible rather than moving to + just because of the guard skills; there were people begging me to do missions with them by the time I was through with that game.
Now that I've hit MHP3rd with the patch, the ice agna set is the new guard whore, and again it made me indestructible, however the natural torch ability no longer existed in that game, so it gave me something actually useful in it's place next to the guard skills...
Now, between Rathalos and Rathian armors, it depends on what weapon you specialize with- however, I actually preferred the rathian set to gun with. once you pull of earplugs, the fire res. goes well with it and I managed to get a good charm for trap master. it was easily my best set for awhile. That, and the archer's turban made a good swap-out piece most of the time. (in portable 3rd, the archer's turban is the most AMAZING head armor ever to grace the game.)
