Well, my schools budget is going down the drain. The Govenator isn't much help. At our school,(Analy HS) We traditionally have a 7 period day and a tutorial. We also have a block schedule. However, because of budget cutbacks, we might have to elimanate tutorial, one of our periods, and the block schedule, which would effectivly drive us all INSANE. The work overload would be tremedous. I would just switch schools. So, I say, California needs to start giving schools more money, rather than trying to starve them, like they are now. What are your solutions to this problem?

we have a block schedule with tutorial, too (not insluding 0 period and we don't have tutorial on Fridays). the district is actually thinking of changing the schedule to 8 periods, with 7th being the athletics period and 8th being the teacher prep period. this means that they'll get rid of tutorial, which will cause the whole district to collapse since we're the district guinea pigs.

Well, one of the reasons this is, is because the public schools get money from taxes right? Except that the illegal immigrants here don't have to pay taxes, so they don't support the schools, but they get helth care and such because of the democrats.

we used to have blocks when i was at school, 4 a day.. the school made some extra money by having the shop classes do production work, and the profits from sales going back into the school. until one of the teachers retired the year i graduated, and that was the class that brought it the most money.

I dont think my school has had any cut backs so far.... It has always had 6 per, or u could have 7, but then u would have a 0 per. The only thing i can think of that could have resulted from any cut backs i havent heard of was that we need to print out our assignments from the school web site, so they dont have to buy as much paper i guess. Im not sure if this is cuz of cut backs, but i dont really mind. I guess its cuz theres a lot of preps at my school, so we get high scores... =/ i dunno.

I don't think that's what we're talking about now, it's the change in our schools, not how they suck. ^^;

My school, fortunately, hasn't had any cutbacks yet. My middle school still has the same old electives, except for fantasy football/baseball, because that teacher went to a different school to teach way back when school started. My high school doesn't seem to be changed at all. If the high school I go to cut back seventh period, then the eighth graders who go there for geometry and phys ed (me included) wouldn't have anywhere to go for phys ed.

But I wish more money would go to education... :\ This is about our future, you know? Bad education could lead to an even more disastrous economy in the future.

Point taken exactly. It's one of the many things in politics that don't exactly make much sense. Sure, try to make California's education better, but then cut the money on education first....? It's no wonder why our state's education level is still pretty low on the ranking scale...

I'm hit both ways because I work part-time at a local library and I go to community college (ElCo, yay...Hell v.2.0...but only for one more semester blaugh ). Because of the budget cuts, my school's raised their prices per unit EVERY year since the 2 years I've been attending. On my senior year, the cost was only $12/unit. Then once I got in, it was raised to $18/unit. Now, it's $26/unit and most likely going up to $48/unit in the near future. It's ridiculous, especially since the universities most likely want high school seniors to go to a JC before the 4-year college, which makes those who really want to go straight to 4 year to come in. And how is the upcoming generation's supposed to get a good job when they can't even afford to pay for school? And that's NOT including paying for books, which can cost up to $200-300 depending on the subjects your taking.

Not only that, but at work, the library budget's been cut a couple million...yet again. That means less (updated) books for kids to read, and less interest. And now the library has to merge with another department of the city to save money. And they're two totally different departments... stressed

Okay, now they're proposing we cut back our music programs on all 23 schools in our district.
The whole thing supposedly "saves" $225k.
Ohhh, it's on, biatches. mad

Alright:

It all ties in with warring, cost of living increase, taxes and congress.

Congress allows a certain ammount of money go to states, and the governer just happens to be a republican, so he supports the richer things, like fancy schools and blah blah.... I think the illegal immigrants should just register, and get a job, they are wasting our money, and also, california roads are in horrid condition, especial here up in northern cal.... it's just...... the roads are so cracked..... so they need to repair those....... everything just costs loads of money that the government doesn't have, because they want more money from us for the war.....@.@ and they might possibly re-instate the draft, in which i'd move to japan. xd
