Taking slow and even breathes, Calix inhaled the scent of the freshly crushed berries, silently focusing on his work. Slowly he made strokes across the back of a large piece of bark, for the most part using the paintbrush he had been given, until it came to the larger areas that needed to be filled. The atmosphere that surrounded him as he painted was one of peace, the air around him as calm as he felt.

Every couple of minutes the blue hart pulled back, getting a better look at what he was doing, checking to make sure the perspective and such were correct, something that was hard to tell with only one eye. Still he managed, unable to tell if the drawings were skewed unless someone told him, though at the moment the only one he'd met who'd criticize his work was his mother. Most of the time the comments he received from her weren't much help, the vast majority of them just complaints about how they couldn't match her beauty, but every once and a while one would be useful.

"This is useless," he snorted, quietly, rubbing his dirty juice stained hooves off in the grass. He cast a glance at the flower he had been drawing, a small amount of frustration showing on his face before he looked away. "I think it'd be best if I took a break..."

Flora had been sneaking off to her secret spot more and more recently to get away from it all and just sleep or relax or not be so cheerful or make stupid comments that were supposed to be taken as a tease and not serious; and just generally not have to worry about hurting someones feelings. Of course she still didn't mind not hurting peoples feelings; and she liked all of her friends a lot; but sometimes she just needed to act completely different from herself.

She was humming as she made her way to her spot; it all clear in her head which way she was to go; even though the first time she'd found it she'd gotten lost for an hour. She smiled to herself as she moved from a walking pace to a trot; her hair bouncing and her flowers threatening to fall with the movement but never quite making it as always. Her curly locks being just that; locks to keep in the flowers.

She smiled as she looked down and saw a few of the flowers that made up her spot. The closer she got to the place; the more concentrated they would be; rather than a few here and there. But as she got closer she picked up the scent of someone else. She stopped and sniffed; recognizing the sent but almost not. She hadn't talked to this herla in a while...

She thought long and hard for a few moments and realized it was Calix with a big smile and giggle she picked up her pace and soon saw him. "HI CALIX!" She called out to him as soon as she was certain he'd be able to see her. And once she got closer she stopped remembering that he was always concerned someone might take his eye patch. "Nice to see you again <3 What are you painting that you've come all the way out here?"

Calix would've jumped out of his skin if he could, he wheeled around, surprised by the sudden loud noise that was Flora's shout shattering his peace and then stomping on it. Startled, his wings spread out and his tail stood up as he prepared to bolt. He let out a loud, annoyed sigh as he glanced at Flora, recognizing her and moving so that he was between her and his drawing, feeling slightly paranoid.

"All the way here?" He snorted, casting a brief glance around the secluded meadow. "Flowers, nothing special..." He grumbled, looking back at her to mumble a half hearted "nice to see you too."

"I wander about all the time anyway, being here is nothing special, though I'd like to visually catalog what is where. Makes it easier to figure out where I am since I can only see half of the place."

He didn't feel like he needed to explain himself, but he figured it would result in less pestering if he did. He shifted, while he talked, dropping his bag down to nudge the piece of bark towards the open flap, hoping the rest of his drawings wouldn't come spilling out along with the rest of his belongings that he had decided to bring with him.

"And what brings you here?"

Flora caught the nice words he begrudgingly gave her; but decided not to comment on them and ignored them in case he'd wanted to save face. But she wouldn't overlook his comment that flowers were nothing special. "Nothing special? You really can't think that? Not someone as artistic as you!!" She exclaimed stepping a bit closer to him; pawing at the earth. "Flowers are amazingly special!! They're so versatile! they can be food; something pretty to look at; something pleasant to smell; or even an accessory!"

She shook her head. "Why in fact; there's a small clearing that's filled with nothing BUT these flowers. The scents so strong the moment you step through the tree line you're blasted by it and all your troubles seem to go away! And you don't have to take my word for it either; Kindle goes there a lot too!" She told him nodding her head. "I bet if you wanted to; you could use it as a beautiful background for one of your awesome peices of art <333" She giggled and smiled at him widely before realizing he'd asked her a question and then she looked and felt a bit stupid.

"Oh... I was just passing through here to go and relax. Do a bit of my meditation. You know~ get rid of all the bad stuff~"

Calix snorted as he listened to her, his eye drifting over to the flowers in her hair. "Flowers are everywhere, sure they may look different just like every herla does, but just like us, there's is plenty of them. Perhaps the rarer species can be considered "special" if you'd like, but there is nothing terribly spectacular about a dandelion, it struggles to survive and reproduce just like everything else." His head pulled back as she got closer, eye widening slightly as he kept it on her. "My mother would be angry if I killed a flower for such uses when there are other things that can be eaten or used for decoration." He glanced at his stained hooves and murmured, "berries have scents too."

As the young hind began to talk about a nearby meadow he crinkled his nose, trying to envision it. "I think it's more likely that I 'd feel suffocated by the scent there..." He mumbled to himself, laying down so he could rest his head in the grass, but at the mention of Kindle his ears perked. "Kindle goes there?" He tilted his head, surprised and now a bit curious about this place. "I don't think I'll use it as a background... If there's really that many flowers it'd take a long time..." he said quietly, biting his lip.

At her answer to his question he raised an eyebrow, "Meditation?" He smirked, "I'm surprised you are capable of having bad stuff with how everyone loves you."

"But that's what so cool about flowers! how simple they are and yet how similar they are to us too! how they struggle just like we do~ It's awesome <333" Flora giggled not at all affected by how he didn't feel the same. He had his opinion and she had hers after all <333 "My mother doesn't like me picking flowers to put them in my hair either... but she's stopped saying it..." She nodded her head happy to see he atleast had something to say on the subject of scents. "I like the way Berries smell better~ It makes me hungry." She laughed; her giggles calming down now.

She could see how someone would feel about that; the scent overwhelming you; not that she ever felt that way; it just made her forget all of her worries and fears. She nodded her head when he asked about Kindle; remembering that the two of them were friends. "Oh yeah; a lot more now that he's come back! I found it one day when he wasn't there; and had been going a lot cause it was so pretty; and one day Kindle came in and said he'd been coming there ever since he was a fawn too!" She didn't mention that he'd also ran away that very day; and that when he'd come back to find her; he'd confessed in that same meadow that he'd run away becuase he'd fallen in love with her as a fawn and had felt shameful becuase of it. Mainly becuase Calix didn't need to know that; and also becuase that was one of the things that she needed to think on. And talking about things that got her frustrated wasn't always a good idea.

"Sometimes I don't like everyone loving me... that's a lot of responsibility... I hate hurting others... and when I think that some day I'm going to have to choose a mate... or that someday I'll fall in love and have to tell my friends I can't return their feelings.... it breaks my heart..." She sighed her ears lowering to her head; laying them flat as a frown spread across her face. She didn't want to sound full of herself... as if her turning someone down would send them into a deep depression; but some of them... she wasn't so sure if that wouldn't happen. "That's what I have to think about most of the time I come out here... sometimes I just want to scream at them to stop liking me... to lie and be the opposite of what I am. And when that urge comes over me; I go to my clearing; and think happy thoughts."

Her gaurdian whispered something into her ear and Flora perked; looking up to the right; her right ear moving as if straining to listen to something. "My Guardian StarChild says that if you just dab at what ever you're painting the flowers on; just a bit of a glob of different shades of red; and then make the ones closer more defined it should take you about 20 minutes... Oh. And she says she loves your technique. >_>" She giggled a bit about that because she'd said some other things about how if SHE was Flora she'd be all over him to paint with him among other things that made Flora want to run away screaming at. Since it was like thinking about her parents having sex D;

Calix tilted his head, resting his cheek against the cool grass as he listened to her. "But that doesn't make them special..." He grumbled, snorting about the similarity between their mothers, "my mother would kill me if she even found out, not even bothering with scolding or warning me not to." He laughed, closing his eye, "berries are good for much more than flowers..."

"I suppose I'll have to check this place out when I'm feeling lonely and see if I can corner Kindle there," he snickered at the thought itself, peeking open his eye as she talked about how she and Kindle met. "Or maybe I'll just pester him into taking me sometime."

As she began to talk about how hard it was to be loved by everyone he bit his lip, almost wanting to yell at her. "Oh I'm sure it's real tough. Ya know, it saves everyone a lot of pain to just tell them how you feel, regardless of whether or not it'll hurt them, because the longer you put it off, the worse it'll hurt." He grimaced at the talk of mates and all that mushiness and hurting others' feelings. "All your doing by trying not to hurt them is giving them false hope and having that hope crushed hurts a lot more, so you should just be yourself. If you want to scream then scream, no one will think less of you for it if you act more like a real herla who has feelings instead of some happy beam of sunshine who's faking it, that just makes you seem arrogant."

He cast a glance at his drawings and quickly shoved the one he was working on into his bag. "Well, tell your guardian thanks for the suggestion, I'll consider it.... As well as thanks for the compliment," he smirked, bowing.

Flora sniffled when he took on that obviously agitated tone with her. But he didn't understand her... he could live with not pleasing everyone; he was so much freer than her to do what he liked when he liked how he liked. People were always with her; always watching her; always wanting to be around her and talk with her and getting upset when she tells them she doesn't like anyone like that. Or getting a hurt look on their face when she talks about how Ember and Asher are her best friends but she doesn't say their name as well. It's heart breaking for her.

"This is why I don't like talking about it... It makes me sound conceited and bitchy..." She told him honestly taking a deep breath. "I do tell them; I don't like anyone. I have no feelings like that for anyone. But they all still think there's hope... I've known them all my whole life... doesn't that mean I would know if I felt anything more towards them by now? Shouldn't I know? You know... I once tried to tease a male for hiding when that vervain was yelling at the both of us... and he ran off until he was an adult to become a man for me." She shook her head and lifted her head to look up at the sky in a sort of 'why me' way.

"But I'm not faking being happy... I really am happy to be around my friends... just sometimes I want to be alone; and be a bit sad; or angry; and not feel selfish or self centered about it either. Sometimes I want to be in a bad mood and not have everyone come up to me and see if I'm alright; or make sure no one has been mean to me... or that they aren't the reason for why I'm so upset." SHe got a sort of angry look on her face; nothing serious; more as if she was annoyed becuase she could hear them acting like that. "She says you're welcome <3 and that apparently... there's a big place around here that has more tools for that sort of stuff."

Calix groaned loudly as he listened to her, "That's your problem," he snorted. "You think if you weren't so concerned with how other's think that you had to baby them and instead of flat out yelling at them that they made you mad or whatever, that they would still treat you that way?" He rolled his eye, smirking, "You drove your own friend away because of your behavior, you think if you didn't care so much about what everyone thought, that he wouldn't have realized you were joking? Don't worry so much about offending people."

He grimaced at the talk of love again, "How should I know, I don't know what love feels like in the first place, my mother whisked me away when she discovered I was missing an eye because she was ashamed of my appearance. First thing she did to me was stick this eyepatch on me, then when I finally discovered something I liked, she yelled at me to never do it again." He chuckled, shaking his head as he reminisced, "And you may not have noticed this, but I don't really have many friends."

"If you act happy when you really feel like you want to be alone, then your faking it. Most people are only concerned with themselves, don't feel bad just because you have feelings too. Your not letting your 'friends' consider you as someone with feelings because you don't show them anything but happiness, which means they think they can do whatever you want and you won't get angry." He snickered, peering at her a bit angrily, "The curse of popularity, your feared, they don't want you mad at them because they think you'll turn everyone against them," he growled. "It's why I'm content with being a loner."

As Flora began to talk about her guardian again, he let out a deep breath, relaxing himself. "I'll have to go looking around."

Flora felt a bit insulted when he said that. Her friends knew she would never turn anyone against anyone. That was wrong; and mean; and-and-and just not nice! She would have told him too if he didn't seem to want to stay stuck in that one set mindset. She wondered why he was so bitter... no one wanted to be alone. Not really. And she knew that... Maybe he was also hiding his feelings? Not that she would ask since it seemed like such a sore subject... maybe it would be best to forget it.

He seemed to relax when she started talking about that stuff... maybe she should just stick with that? Maybe if she went a got the stuff for him... he'd be a bit nicer to her? OH MAN! maybe he'd even be her friend. She started giggling at that thought; which to someone that wasn't Flora's guardian; or Flora herself would seem very odd and out of place.

"I could go get it for you 8D if you wanted~" She told him nodding her head. Her Guardian would lead her in the right way she was certain! This would be so simple; go find the art stuff and then he would totally want to be her friend! Maybe she could learn to do that whole art thing as well! Oh that would be so cool! She smiled widely at the idea. Certain it was one of the best she'd had yet.

Calix crinkled his nose, staring at her with a small frown. "I don't need you to get anything for me," he grumbled, disliking the huge smile on her face. She was planning something and he didn't like it, but then again, he didn't like her in the first place, just like with almost everyone else. He didn't need more friends or help, he was an adult who was perfectly content in the way things currently were, if he decided things needed to be changed he would do it himself.

He huffed, shifting uncomfortably, he didn't want to be indebted to someone like her. Appearing so happy and cheerful in front of others all the time, no one was truly that way unless they were purposely deceiving everyone. Superficial, that's what she was, and he didn't like it at all. He wouldn't trust her until she earned it, and he definitely wouldn't accept her help, especially when it wasn't needed.

"Besides, I'm content with using what I already have, I can make do until I wander across supplies on my own." He sighed, blowing his bangs out of his eyes, after all, what he'd said was true. He'd been using berries to draw all his life, he didn't need more art supplies when he had found some that would never run out, berries would grow back, paints wouldn't.
PostPosted: Sat May 29, 2010 11:19 am

Flora's ears went back in a distraught sort of manner; and her smile faltered for maybe 3 or 4 seconds at most. She didn't mean it to be taken so wrong. "I just thought.... I mean that is.... I don't know much about painting and stuff.... just that... my guardian says that if you use a um... a paint brush?" -isn't too sure what that is- "That you'll be able to do much more.... but I mean... I know you don't need me to! just like I don't need to do it~ but i want to <3 Becuase I like making people happy <3 and not only would this... hopefully; make you happier? Cause I know it makes my guardian happy when she watches you paint."

She looked away awkwardly pawing at the ground uncertainly. She wondered why he was such a grumpy butt. I mean... if he was friends with kindle he couldn't have been that bad right?

Calix sighed, looking away from the hind, closing his eye briefly as he reflected on his current behavior. His mother had drilled into his head that he should be nice to girls, but what was he doing now? Sure, he didn't need to like her, but he should at least be polite. If his mother was here she certainly would've scolded him for how he'd acted. Thankfully she wasn't here at the moment, but he still felt slightly bad for the way he was treating Flora, regardless of his feelings for her. She hadn't done anything bad to him yet, it was just her personality that set him off, the way it oozed disgusting amounts of happiness that made others lower their guard.

Glancing back at Flora he took a deep breath, trying to control himself. "I already have a paintbrush and you shouldn't assume things, you don't me, so how would you know if that sort of thing would make me happy? I'm fine with things the way they already are," he said, shooting a glance at his bag. "Being given things simply for that purpose doesn't make me happy at all, it makes me feel like I'm being pitied. Besides, most people don't have to work to make others happy, if they are good people, just being there will suffice or small little actions, even just those that are day to day, can make people incredibly happy." He sighed, looking down at the grass, "I'm glad what I do pleases your guardian."
