Hello there! :} I was wondering... Is it possible for one to create their own spell? Their own magic?

For instance, if one wanted to create a spell to make a plant grow better, would it be possible? How would one do it?

Or even to make ones metabolism work better, faster, or stronger? How does one do that?

I am just curious to understand the concept of "magic" and power in Wicca, as it seems rather complicated with all the candles, incense, circles, and so forth...

As for creating your own spell it is 100% possible. People make their own spells all of the time, but it helps to start with pre-made spells to understand the set up, and the methodology. As for making your own magick, I am confused by your intent. Magick is magick, no matter who uses it or how.

There was a thread in here about making your own spells, and talking about how hand made spells are stronger because of personal intent. But since I am having trouble locating that, I will just run down the basics.

~First you need a clear intention. Like "I want my Plant to grow big and strong."

~Then you can research items that relate to plant growth, spiritually and physically. Like a watering can or the color green. Feel free to add anything else that helps you represent growth in your own mind.

~Then write the Rite. This is often a poem sounding thing but it is basically the words / chant/ etc. When writing this think about tone, forceful or gentle, and think about intent, what you want to have happen.

~After writing the Rite you can pretty much cast the spell. Think up how you would like to use your symbols / tools and then you are off. It really doesn't matter how you do it, just that you do.

The part that you think is so complicated are the tools. They are really not as necessary as the Rite. The words and the intention are the important part, the tools help you focus your thoughts and will on the intention. With an unclear intention a spell will fail every time.

Ah, interesting! Thanks for clearing this up for me! biggrin Now... I will not be trying anything until I look into magic(k?) further... But, hypothetically, I could do something like this? (I've had some... a lot... of time to think).

Lets say, I wanted to make my eyes green or more green. Hypothetically, I could obtain things representing the color I wanted, my own personal element (Aries, fire, diamond, red), and so forth and after writing the Rite... Technically, it may work?

Haha, I apologize for my lack of knowledge, but thus far the website I have looked at have been lacking in information in spellwork. And most of the stuff I have found in regards to magic includes complex rituals with things that I do not have the means to buy...

I don't really believe that you could make your eyes change color. I have heard about it, and I think it is biokenisis, but still. Magick follows the laws of the universe. Since gravity exists you can not cast a spell to turn it off, since you are human you can not cast a spell to shoot lightning from your figure tips, and since your eyes were made one color you can not cast a spell to change them. Besides, eye color is built into your genetics. If you can not live with your own eyes then maybe your problem is not the eyes but a want to be someone else. It may be a psychological problem.

As for other rituals, which spells often have, you can always substitute. If it calls for an herb of power find another herb with similar properties, or just use grass. If it asks for anointing oil and you do not have any, use water or olive oil. Anything and everything can be substituted. The items listed are just an "best case scenario" list.

Ah, mmkay! So working inside the laws of physics, haha! razz Interesting...

Thanks very much for the advice! biggrin

May I ask, if it is okay, what sorts of spells have you (or anyone for that matter) worked with, seeing results?
PostPosted: Wed May 26, 2010 5:15 pm

I have done a lot of healing/wellness spells, this is because I enjoy helping myself and others. Many warding and protection spells. That covers my focus I guess. But I am not limited to those.

some spells I've done and succeeded with...

~Protection from a mislead spell
~Protection from negative thoughts (myself/others)
~Warding away pests (mosquitoes mostly) "Harder / not very effective"
~Creating false Night - silent space
~Healing small wounds (cuts and bruises)
~Healing emotions
~Healing a friend
~Removing illness (cold/flue)
~Finding spiritual enlightenment
~Attracting love
~Healing a tree
~Encouraging plant growth
~Healing a sick fish -failed the first time-
~Sleeping spell (for myself) -insomnia-

Wow! That is so cool! ^^

In regards to healing, how do you know your cuts/bruises healed from magic, and not itself? And same for the tree? O: And wow! You really worked with keeping mosquito away!?!?

I believe that my spells helped the process. It is much easier to work with nature than against it. I know they worked because when I did cast the spell it went much faster and when I didn't the duration of the hurt was longer.

The mosquitoes was hard. I used garlic and smoke to help keep them away initially. And made a bubble/shield to keep them away. Then of course the Rite. It worked but not terribly well. Bug spray works better, but is so caustic or expensive.

writing your own spells is both a taxing and rewarding experience. My advise is don't come up with it five minutes before the ritual longer and more thought out spells I find work better then "winging it"

for the bugs, I have an herbal bugspray, hand-made by a professional herbalist, without harmful chemicals though the herbs are preserved in vodka sweatdrop

I find it helpful to just take a blank piece of lined paper and ask the following questions:
What do I want to do?
How will this affect things?
What do I know about it?
What would help to have for it?
What do I have for it?
What is the timeline I am working with
What should I say?
What should I do?
How Will this affect me and others (this is where you ask: Does it "harm none"?)

Try doing a brainstorm or a prewriting with those questions in mind. look-up things you are unsure of and do a little research before-hand. remember spells seldom work exactly as planned, there is a level of the universe's artistic license that you have to account for. but with some practice you should be able to get the hang of it smile
Good luck

In general spells that you have written yourself are the best ones. The books that are out there can be used as a guide, but if you use them you should always be "tweaking" them to your own personal needs, or using them only as a base framework for writing your own. There are quite a few people who say that one shouldn't be doing any spellwork at all unless one is comfortable writing their own.

Well...when you have a nasty looking bruise one minute and it's gone within minutes - it's probably not just healing itself. Well, it is healing itself, but through spellwork the process has been moved along at a much faster rate.

This isn't to say that you should resort to only using magical means to try to heal these sorts of things (especially major injuries) - if you think you need medical attention - get it. 3nodding

If you did that spell, about the only way it could be considered successful, would be if you parents went out and bought you contacts as a result. xd

I don't think that is completely true - while you can use almost anything you want in spells, you need to have a reason for doing so. You are going to want to use items that have properties similar to that which you are trying to accomplish - using something that has absolutely no connection at all (or worse... opposite properties) probably isn't a good idea (even if it's not harmful - it could weaken/negate the spell). Though to be fair you don't necessarily need any tools/items at all to do spell work, I think that throwing in something "willy-nilly", just because you don't have the proper item - makes for sloppy spellwork. You'd be better off not using anything at all - than trying to force properties on something that doesn't already have that connection.

Ah, thank you everyone! biggrin

@Oceantail: Ah! I will try that for my first time trying, as a brainstorm-type thing! :}

@Too2Sweet: Ah, indeed. razz Have you done something like that? A bruise disappearing in minutes?

Also, would someone be kind enough, unless there is some reason I am not permitted, to send me/post one of their own spells they have tried and seen results? I have no idea a template, really. o-o;

Lastly... Is there something I should start with, before trying out my own spells? Such as grounding?

If you go though 2009 issues of the guild newsletter there are articles on spells. Also in the Library forum, there are several threads with various types of spells in them.

An easier way would be to use the Newspaper Directory. All newspapers with a Spells article are linked there to make searching quicker smile

The newspaper is viewable by all...you just can not edit it. the Crew Headquarters is the only unauthorized part of this guild. Try again. I think you may have just accidentally clicked the wrong thing.
