Hey, welcome to the workshop. This thread is for art help, if you need have questions about the artsy part of making a comic. This thread is for you to trade questions for answers so that other people can see em and maybe learn something from each other. Anyone can answer a question, we are all here to help each other grow!

If you need help with storyline, get your pretty little pen down to the Freakin Method thread, we wont help you here.

okay, so say like for the maay contest, script is given, actions for the character already defined, and you're up against multiple other artists doing the same comic as you. Of course everyone has their own art style but how do you make your comic really stand out?! after all, you all have the same script and have to portray the same actions, how different are we expected to make these?

considering i am typing this late at night, i might miss something, but here i go:

so you have a script. look at what you are given, and figure out just how much wiggle room you have. the way you handle this wiggle room is what determines the uniqueness of your comic. Let me explain.

There are certain things the writer writes that are unchangeable. Things like dialogue and expressions, when specified, are most likely not supposed to be messed with.

There are then certain things that are not said. allowing the artist to fill in the blanks. if the script says two people are talking to each other, that in and of itself is rather boring. However, from the dialogue, you can deduce what expressions they are making, or using the context you can move the "camera" around to capture more of the surrounding while they talk, or have the character doing something. Still, it must make sense within the context. If two characters are having a serious talk, it would not make sense if one of them is hopping on a beach ball the whole while, unless they were clowns.

There are also things which only the artist can deal with. Panel size and orientation. Speech bubble placement. Background. All that jazz. Be clever with that and it'll go a long ways.

Especially with background. The script says classroom, you can have much more than desks and blackboards. Include maybe chairs, people, cabinets, etc. Make it interesting, but not clustered.

Wut else?
Bottom line is, if it isn't specified, see how clever you can be about it while still remaining true to the script.

You know, this question is way too big. Maybe if you had a more specific question? Hope this helped a little, if not, ask what i missed that still bothers you and i'll try to answer it. *passes out*
