So I let my boyfriends little brotbher borrow my rebel because he needed it for his photo class. One of the rules that I stressed was no one else was to use it for any reason. I look at the pictures on it.....he had left it at his girlfriends house. She used it. When asked why he had left it there he said she had wanted to, and I quote, "play with it" ..............he didn't understand why I said he couldn't borrow it the next time he asked. This was after he lost my lens cap.

How old is this kid? For this reason (and several others), I don't let people borrow my equipment unless I know they're good for it. Of course, you'll get a better camera sooner or later. Once I graduated, I got a new canon 5d II and have no problem loaning out my old rebel if anyone needs to use it.

Hes graduating Highschool this year. stare

He asked later to use my "Canon" (all of my cameras are canon) and I gave him my little Powershot. He just kinda glared at me, and I laughed and told him he would never see my rebel again. Then I let him know that he would be going to B&H.com and getting me a new lens cap that says "Canon" on it. =P

I <3 my little rebel. I'm still learning all the finer points of Photography, so its nice to have a simple little camera. My grandparents got it for me for graduation, and my grandma isn't doing so well, so its got a lot of sentimental value to it as well.

Mmm I'd have flipped. I hate when people lend things they've borrowed from me even if it's just a book or whatever but my camera? No no noooo. I'd be pissed if they lost the lenscap too though I don't use them.

My Alpha is my baby and I don't lend it out for anything more than a moment anyway.

I think you're right to only lend your Point and shoot after your bro's disrespect to your Rebel.

You don't use lens caps? What are you going to do if the glass gets scratched?

How does the Alpha compare to other SLRs? That's made by Sony, right? If I'm not mistaken, they have some sort of deal with Ziess for lenses.

The Sony Alpha line is right up there competing with Canon and Nikon. The top Zeiss lenses (which Sony has an exclusive deal with) are very comparable to the rest of the top glass out there.
Plus I can use older Minolta lenses and some of those were awesome! Pentax and Olympuses aren't too shabby either.

That's what I thought. So why wouldn't you want to cover up that expensive glass with a lens cap?

I don't always use one either. I have a uv filter on all of my lenses though.

UV filters are more expensive than lens caps. What that gets scratched?

Meh, I don't tend to put the front near anything that would scratch my baby and if the lens were to get scratched, I'd have an excuse to buy a better one biggrin When I get a 2.8 lens, I'll use a lens cap but with the kit lens, I'll let it ride.

Eh, I guess I just don't like to continually clean my lens or buy new equipment.

Mine doesn't get scratched and I've been carrying on the same way for a few years now. Sometimes there's a bit of dust and I wipe it off smile no worries.
