A Ьєαů†їƒůℓ Night.
A ∂єєp Night.
A §†αяяy Night.
A cℓєαя Night.

Night of a hundred demons, Hyakki Yakou. During this night, a lowly gigolo is let out of the whorehouse he is imprisoned to, able to go only a certain distance away. He was once an artist but sold himself to a whorehouse as he was barely able to bring in any more money. On this one night, where demons come out from their shadows and take over Japan, he is free for only moments. However, a demon finds a keen interest in him and buys his time. Sadly, the gigolo must say goodbye to his few hours of freedom, outside of the whorehouse that always smells of sweat and sex. Surprisingly to him, the demon does not demand sexual pleasing, only conversation and entertainment. The young man, unfortunately, must say his goodbye to the demon who treated him more kindly than other clients. As the night becomes day and day becomes noon, the man is finally given time to rest. But it does not last long as a new costumer had asked for him specifically. The young gigolo is soon surprised to see the demon from before.

A ℓøиєℓy Night.

I am quiet and very shy. I usually talk lowly of myself if it comes up. I hardly speak at all unless spoken to. It was how I was raised. I love the night sky and I love cool air. I'm not adventurous or daring like the samurai I hear stories of. I'm a bit of a dreamer, too. I love to perform and I enjoy playing instruments, especially flutes. I enjoy dancing and haiku. The flowing of water and the dancing of koi are beautiful to me. I loved all of these things at a point in my life, but now I am broken and bound eternally as a whore to survive. I lived in poverty, without food or water, for a while but now I have a home.. Even if I must sell myself to live there. I am traditional. I believe in old myths that are slowly dying. But it is what keeps me alive. I am not special, I have no powers like the gods or demons, I am only a man.

Each cold night burns my body like fire...

I was once just a young boy, my mother a beautiful geisha. My father a fisherman. My mother died giving birth to my sister, whom also died. My father was devastated and we were losing money fast. I was an artist and my father sold all my paintings. I never liked parting with art, but I knew it was for our sake. But it wasn't enough. He sold me, then, to the teahouse. I liked to watch my mother perform and so I knew a thing or two, but the teahouse sold me then to the whorehouse portion of the building. I would be raped and beaten for years to come. I learned to never talk back and always obey. The customer is always right, don't speak unless spoken to, open your obi as fast as possible and it will be over as soon as possible. Many things others have told me. I lived at that house for three years. Its become automatic to me now. And always state your gender before you are picked. My 'feminine beauty' as they called it made some think I was a demon, and I was punished for not reassuring so. Its because I'm a man, not a woman, which some customers dislike thoroughly. I just wish I could be free of this. The money I earn vanishes; I will never have the chance to buy back my freedom.

ρersonɑʟιтy⋮⋮
I am a man who will fight for anything he wants. Some may call me selfish and arrogant, but I only see myself as successful in my long life. Many of the demons envy me because of my powers over humans, and how I do not need to work very much when it comes to seducing them into a trap. They all fall into my arms rather easily. I am very shallow and picky when it comes to many things from food and clothes to mates and friendships.

Just a bite....

вιoɢrɑρнy⋮⋮
You could say I am the black sheep of a long line of powerful demons like myself. My great grandfather was an Oni, a giant so inhumanly strong that his footsteps created earthquakes. He met my great grandmother, a Kyuuketsuki like myself, and gave birth to many children. I have thousands of relatives, but our long line began with my great grandfather, who now sleeps in the deepest darkest hollowed cave of the tallest mountain in the country. My father and mother were both Kyuuketsuki, but even though my blood is completely drained of any Oni drop, I have acquired in some way my great grandfather's strength and was born hideous like the ogre. Because of this I had little to no friends and my mother locked me away in a mountain, like my great-grandfather. I hated myself for all of those years. I stayed in the shadows of my cage during the day, hiding away from the rays of the sun which could kill me in seconds, and at night I wept and prayed to Kami for any sort of miracle. And it came, much to my fortune. One day, my mother's yearly visit, she arrived to see me and stood in shock by the entrance of my cage. She released me of my shackles and brought me back to the family's estate. I saw my face in the mirror, the macabre hideousness of the ogre in my past all gone. I had become a true Kyuuketsuki, a beautiful creature of the night. I guess this is why I am rather shallow with my appearance and with others, because no one ever showed true compassion to what I had once been. My mother welcomed me, but because of all of the years, all of the centuries of neglect, I decided to start new, away from my so called family. I've become a wandering demon, stalking through the land in the night, searching for prey worthy of my beauty.

The moon waxed full upon the parading demons' night. Fireworks, specially imported, shot out into the sky, exploding into great flowers of fire. The few who dared stepped to the streets wore masks of most fearsome demons or held their beads and sutra closely to them in hopes to ward off the demons that paraded about the town. They celebrated, taking over the night, bustling back a forth, past the young man that looked sombrely into the black waters that reflected all the lights under the bridge. Pale skin was accented with the shades of his layered red kimono, accented with gold embroidered flowers. His hair was tightly pulled up in an elaborate style with a few locks loose and flowing down the back of his neck, his hair filled with kanzashi. The obi he wore was big and took up most of his front. It was his status as a mere whore. He held his parasol over his shoulder, shivering slightly as the cold air bit as his bare legs. To the side of his white face was a mask of a woman-demon; a hannya. The angry and jealous face of a women. The young man closed his eyes slowly, letting lily white tears get caught in his voluminous lashes, letting them glitter like small diamonds. His moonlit face kept straight and stoic, despite the tears that caught in his eyes. His lips were sealed and partially painted red. Everything around him moved so quickly, he felt as if time had forgotten him. Quietly, the gigolo sighed, wiping his tears carefully with his sode, being sure not to smear the makeup that took long and painful hours of sitting still. No matter how much he yearned for this freedom, the kagema knew there was only a matter of hours before he would be trapped for another year.

His fragile form crossed arms, carefully trying to hide himself from the rest of the world, hoping to stay unnoticed until his time free was gone. The smell of gunpowder mixed with the scent of clear air and calm water. It was heaven to him. The scent of musty sweat and sex that filled the air of the house he lived was soon forgotten. The cold air made the hairs on the young man's neck stand; his legs quietly rubbed against each other for some warmth. The frosty night was not an excuse to go back early. He would fight off the snow if he had to only to be able to stay outside a while longer. A beautiful, star and firework filled night, even if demons rampaged along the streets, it was worth every day of torture and unwanted sexual commitment. The young kagema took a deep breath, taking in the whole night into his memories, memorizing every sound and scent and every image. At that moment, he felt so serene and calm. Just for a moment he had forgotten his wishing and just enjoyed the night, but not a single smile touched upon his lips. They were locked in a stoic frown. He closed his deep black eyes, feeling the cool night air.

As if the very life was to be drained from him, the young man felt the minutes he had left begin to slip away. Time felt slow, but he was thankful it did. It would give him more time, basking in the freedom he was given. He parted his sad lips, praying the night would never end. Such wishful thinking had gotten him no where but still he continued to pray. The feeling of reassurance or false hope was better than sulking and wishing to die. Soft whispers escaped the man's lips, reciting simple prayers to the gods. Even if his quiet murmurs were unheard, his mind was taken from the negative thoughts that littered him.

It was a night for all of the demons who stalked in the shadows to come out of those very shadows. Tonight was a night for the creatures to go crazy in the streets of Japan, for them to throw away any thoughts of being hunted down and to bring into their minds what sort of preys they would go out to get without the discomfort of a priest at their heals. Many humans would die tonight, that was a given, but the demons could care less. It was their nature, and they would feast with the pleasure of liberty while the humans prayed all night long for safety and security, something that would be very difficult to acquire.

Silently, a girl walked quickly down the street, wearing the mask of an angry demon. Masks were the only protections that humans had from the creatures. The girl cowered at any dark shadow that licked pass her, at any oni that thundered down the street. She was a sorry mess, and she only wanted to get home. This would be so, but only if she kept the mask on.

"Oh dear, oh dear," she whispered under her breath quietly, "Please be with me Kami, please keep me safe," she prayed softly.

"What is the matter, young child?" a voice silkily spoke.

The girl jumped and turned around to see a man, wearing a woman's mask. He was tall, maybe the tallest man she had ever seen, at least, she hoped he was a man, "O-oh, nothing, I just need to get home," she said giving the man a bow.

"How formal you are," he said chuckling lightly and moving closer to her. He was wearing a beautiful dark red kimono, with a dark purple almost black design at the bottom. The design included flowers, cranes and leaves. He slowly approached the girl, the smiling face of the woman tilting slightly to the right, "Would you like some company?"

The girl thought about this and then looked around and heard the screams and shrieks of people and demons, "Yes," she said.

"Oh good," the man said and began walking alongside her, "You have a very interesting mask there," he said.

"Oh, thank you, so do you.....why are you wearing a female?" she asked curiously.

The man chuckled, "Well, very simple, because it is the most beautiful," he said in response, looking out towards the lake they were passing.

"Oh....mine is very ugly," she said giggling lightly.

"It is.....but I'm sure you are much much more prettier underneath that mask," he said gently.

The girl looked up at him, glad for the mask that was hiding her blushing cheeks, "Oh, well....I'm not that pretty," she muttered bashfully.

"Nonsense! Let me take a look at you," the man said laughing.

The girl suddenly looked up and then nervously kept walking, "I don't think that's a good idea," she mumbled.

The man tilted his head to the side, the smiling woman face doing so also and then sighed, "You are afraid of the demons,"

The girl nodded.

"Well do not worry, I'll protect you, how about we both take off our masks at the same time?" he asked sweetly.

His voice was so silky as he said this. It was as if hands had reached out at her to calmly caress her, all around her body. It was dark and mysterious, yet there was something that she could trust just from the tone of his voice.

"All right," she said and then proceeded to take the mask off.

"Silly child"

Before her death, the child was blessed with the face of the most beautiful creature imaginable. The most beautiful yet one of the most dangerous. His eyes had been a dark amber and his face had been so pale, long flowing dark hair making him look ethereal in the dim lighting.

She knew what he was the instantly she laid eyes on him.

Kyuuketsuki.

☽☾☽☾☽☾☽☾

The demon sighed with dissatisfaction. He dropped the limp body of the girl on the ground as if she was nothing but a rag doll. He cleaned himself up by taking out the small white handkerchief and cleaning the blood from the corner of his lips as well as brushing back his silky hair.

"You were right child, you really were not that pretty," he said with a sad look, "Your body was so pretty, I was expecting something more like it," he sighed once more and then dropped the woman's mask on the ground besides the limp body.

He had had a good dinner and wouldn't have to dine again in a while. Now he could enjoy the festivities without worrying about hunger. As he walked down the same street the girl had been taking, he kept looking out towards the lake. The dark water glimmered with the lights of the town and high above, bouquets of fireworks lit it up into an array of colors. He was walking every closer to the bridge that lead to the other side of the town and atop it an interesting figure caught his eye.

The one thing that had made him wonder what sort of creature it was, was the parasol. Who would carry around an open parasol with them during the night? What's more, it seemed so still in the cold and festive night, compared to all of the demons that rampaged passed it. It couldn't be human, could it? He kept looking at it as he kept approaching and slowly made his way up the bridge.

Once he approached he looked at the figure with curiosity. It was dark, but he could see as if it was the middle of the day. And what he saw was rather surprising. The person was human, due to the scent, the clothes and the appearance. Now, there was a mixture in the scent that was rather intoxicating, like the smell of perfume with sweat and a distinct hing of something that he had smelled countless of times before but had never really experienced first hand: sex.

He approached the human and got a good look at his or her profile. It was rather pretty....actually it was a very pretty profile, exquisite even. He wanted to see more though, he wanted to look at this human.

"Good evening," he said darkly.

Cold air picked up for a moment or two, blowing the paper lanterns that decorated the streets. The kagema shuddered, his legs close together. He wrapped his arms around himself, still holding onto the parasol, hoping he could stay shielded from the commotion around him. He swore he almost saw his breath as he sighed. It was a beautiful night.

Upon hearing a voice, he jumped, turning his head to the origin of the sound. He tensed slightly, his shoulders perked up as he tightly held his parasol.

Such a magnificent looking man... More brilliant than any human, for that matter. Dark hair and fine figure... The young hustler, looked down, almost ashamed to see the pleasant looking creature in front of him.
"G-good evening..." He whispered, pulling a loose strand of hair behind his ear.

He glanced up at the other in front of him. He was sure this man was a demon. He had no mask or rosaries, or any other symbol of protection, to his notice. He swallowed nothing gently, his heavy eyes returning their gaze to the side. What could this demon want with him...? Surely he wasn't worth devouring? The young man sighed deeply; perhaps his freedom was now gone? His obi stated his place in life loudly, but he was not quite proud of it. Assuming the man in front of him wanted to buy his pleasure for the night, he was thankful it was not an oni or tengu or any other hideous demons. He never had a fondness to those kind.

He said nothing else, holding an unsettling fear in his chest. Having been beaten into submission for smaller things, for being 'rude' to the guests, he dared not say anything. His long lashes glittered in the light, still holding a few stray droplets of caught tears. He did not back away from the demon; a customer was a customer. It was stupid to risk death by a demon or harassment by the lord of his house. Quivering mildly, he sucked in a quick breath of air. He felt very cold, standing so still. If he were at least walking he knew he would have been warmer.

The demon's eyes widened as they laid upon the human. He being was one of the prettiest he had ever seen. There was something so melancholy about the expression in the human's face that made him take a step closer. And once the human talked, he became surprised even more. A male, a male human this pretty and this lovely was impossible. His scent was a mixture of both female and male, so he hadn't been too sure. Now he was, and he was very very surprised.

Then the demon noticed the sash. A bow tied at the front, nothing like the more formal obi's that women wore. This boy, for he was merely a child compared to his age, was a prostitute. No doubt about it, no person would walk around with the obvious symbol of a common whore. What a pity.

Even more of a pity when the demon noticed the pretty human was crying, "A tear? Look how it grazes upon your cheek, with a pretty face such as yours one would think such droplets would turn to pearls," he said in a flattering sweet manner. He stepped closer to the other until he was but a couple of feet away.

The kagema, took a single step back as the demon had approached him further. He glanced up at the handsome-faced creature warily, switching his gaze back and forth between looking away and glancing at him. His cheeks tinted a faint pink, hearing the charming words of the other man before him. Red lips parted slightly in practical awe. Quickly, he pulled up his sleeve, wiping what tears he had left, careful to not smear his eye makeup.

He clasped both hands on the handle of the parasol, looking down as he began to speak quietly.
"I am not worth such precious words, youkai-sama... Your breath should be saved for better."
A thin hand reached to a lock of his own hair, fondling the strands shyly. Such flattery was rare to the young man; he hardly ever took it. But from a magnificent demon as this? The blush in his cheeks spread as he turned his face away, embarrassed.

He heard a few splashes in the water below the bridge. Before he looked to see what it was, he felt a leathery, wet hand around his ankle. Gasping as he jumped back, subconsciously taking his company's arm, he saw it was just a small kappa. Strange demons they were, but it was a relief to him it wasn't something else. He stepped back away from the edge of the bridge, watching the small duck-billed thing creep form the water onto the bridge, running off. As he relaxed, the man realized he was clinging to the demon. Quickly releasing him, he stepped away a few feet, bowing very low. "Please forgive me…!" He begged before straightening. He did not face the other, only away.

The demon looked at the young man with a small smile tugging at his lips. He wasn't one to find things endearing, but there was something different about this human. It was a sort of fragility that he had never seen on a human before, not fear, just quiet and submissive fragility. He smiled gently when he heard the other say that he did not deserve such words. But how could he not help it, to flatter such an ethereal creature.

"Do not cower," he said gently, moving closer to the boy. Dark amber eyes noticed the rosy colors that began to bloom on the boy's cheeks and it made him smile even wider, "Look at that, you've graced me with a blush," he said chuckling gently.

When he heard the splashing water he caught the scent of another demon, a kappa as a matter of fact. He saw the blue creature jump up and snatch at the young man's ankle and at the same time that the other jumped over to the demon, the creature hissed and bared his fangs, grasping onto the male. He watched the ignorant creature run away, his eyes narrowed darkly as he kept an arm around the other.

But the young man realized how close he had gotten and instantly moved away, much to the demon's chagrin. He frowned and then sighed once he saw the boy box at him. He shook his head and then moved closer to the boy, reached out a hand to touch under the other's chin, and forced him to look up at the demon.

"What a beauty you are, yaro-san, do not hide it from me," he said with a small smile, "Tell me your name," he said, his voice stern and unwavering. His fingers gently moved up the other's cheek to tug at a loose black strand of hair.

The young man made a soft noise as his gaze was forced to look at the other demon, but he did not fight him. With such endearing words, the kagema could not help but feel the warmth on his cheeks more prominently than before. His thin fingers lightly touched the hand that brushed against his powdered skin. His dark eyes looked away humbly as he uttered, "Isshi..."

The strength in the demon's voice to the boy was expected, but to hear the silky tones in his words made him want to shy away. He felt he could obey obediently to the other without feeling too frightful or too cowardly. He looked back to him, his lips partly pursed. "And you..? What is your name?" His voice less timid, but he wasn't quite eager, either. The boy, Isshi, shifted his shoulders, adjusting to the new closeness. His dark eyes felt drawn to the inhuman colour of the demon's eyes, staring into the gold pools.

The demon gave another flashing smile to the boy. He was an exquisite creature, and the demon wanted him all for himself. He felt the greed shifting uncontrollably inside of him, the greed of wanting to keep this little beauty, a male beauty nonetheless. His eyes trailed along the soft curves of his eyes and of his lips, and gently his thumb caressed the plump pursed lips.

"Isshi....simple yet very fitting," he said sweetly and then tilted his head once the boy asked him his name in return, "That, my dear, is something I cannot give you, but you may call me Kyuu if you wish," he said with a gentle smile.

"Now, a quick question, what is a pretty thing like you doing out in such a dangerous night, if I had not been here that kappa would have for sure taken you to its cave and kept you all to himself," he said tenderly, caressing the boy's ebony hair, "And that would be most unfortunate don't you think?" he asked.

The young kagema closed his eyes to concentrate on the gentle and loving touch of the demon with him. The kindness given to him at the moment made him feel starved for more, even if the end result would be his freedom of that night taken from him.
"Kyuu..." He whispered, his chestnut eyes opening slowly to look at the nightwalker. Upon the next question, the young man felt a pang of sadness fill his heart, making it sink in his chest.
"I..." Isshi had averted his gaze, his lips parted in the faintest frown.
"I enjoy the nighttime when I can... Even if demons fill the streets." He whispered, then gazing down, not bothering to look back at the the other male that made his heart begin to beat like no other.
"I wouldn't exactly say that it would be unfortunate, Kyuu-sama..." Isshi admitted, his shoulders lifting effeminately, as if to try and hide himself from the embarrassed and timid feelings that had been building up inside of his gut.

The boy locked his jaw tightly, feeling the cold air on him. It made his teeth chatter, his mouth quivered slightly. He silently wondered if the nightwalker was affected at all by the night's weather. It was beginning to become a little too much for the fragile man. Should he dare give up the last hours he had...?
"Kyuu-sama... Would you like... a cup of tea...?" Isshi offered hesitantly. His legs shifted, placing weight on only one as he listened for an answer.

"Oh, I see," Kyuu said with a nod, "Although dangerous to some, the night is rather beautiful.....now daylight....the sunrise, the sunset, the sun.....that is a true mystery to me," he said with a forlorn expression in his eyes. He sighed and then looked at Isshi.

Kyuu's slender eyebrow arched as he heard Isshi's words. His death wouldn't be unfortunate? That was a strange thought coming from such a young man. He tilted his head up to the starry sky, "It saddens me that you think that way, Isshi-kun," he said to the boy, "Life is a precious thing...." he muttered.

The demon looked down once he heard with his keen ears the chattering sound of the boy's teeth. He would have embraced the boy and kept him warm if only he had any warmth in him. He was just a dead cold animated body after all. But at the mention of tea, Kyuu perked up and smiled.

"That would be lovely," he said sweetly, placing a hand on the boy's hip and then pulling him close, "Lead the way," he said gently.

And then he felt a rather dark shiver going down his spine. Dawn was approaching. The demon turned his head to the east and angrily scowled. He had been looking forward to spending some time with Isshi, but the inevitable rise of the sun would prolong him from doing so. He turned to Isshi and then sadly pulled away, "I'm sorry, my sweet," he said to the young male, "But it seems that my time is up, much to my chagrin," he said, with a little irritation.

He grabbed the boy's hand and then pressed a gentle kiss on it, "I'll search for you," he said gently, "When I rise after the sun falls,"

With that said, he let go of Isshi's hand, looking into his chestnut eyes with a sad gaze. Turning, a small breeze picked up, and in the blink of an eye, he was gone, gone with the shadows of the night, with the shrieks and squeals of the other demons.
