there is a book floating around online that helped me out a lot. it's by mimi fox

it's a little slow in the beginning but once you really get into it will improve your ability to improv and go with it.

A guy i know at berklee said they use that book in class quite a bit.

go for the standards like Summertime, My Foolish Heart, How High is the Moon, etc learn how to work with jazz chords first and then get into the improvisation and soloing. To be honest, you'll never be good at jazz guitar unless you completely devote yourself to playing only jazz. It's by far the hardest genre there is.

I'm really looking for things to grab my attention. My main problem is not knowing what to play and jazz interests me.
