Corvus panted softly as she leaned against the dresser that she and Devi had spent the past several minutes moving across the room through the debris and rubble in order to prop the door open. While it seemed to be doing well enough with the whole 'staying open' thing on its own, Corvus didn't trust the door. Either of them. They could have a fight at any moment and the painted door could decide to slam itself and...

She closed her eyes tightly, shaking her head before bringing her hand up to rub lightly at the bridge of her nose. "... We just spent how much time... Talking to inanimate objects. Only they weren't inanimate. Were they?" She glanced over at the other girl after lowering her hand, looking for some sort of reassurance, or at least a confirmation that maybe they should just drop it and start worrying about the real problems now that the road to door to freedom lay open before them.

Devi scratched her head. Corvus had a point: they were talking to doors. And Corvus had seen it all too - was she on drugs as well? Devi did not know much about drug use or hallucinations, but was it possible for two people to have the very same hallucination? It seemed very unlikely, whatever just happened must have been real. "Well, those doors definitely talked to us."

She looked out the doorway, it looked to lead into a corridor of some kind. "Should we head out of here? Maybe grab somethings," Devi said without much certainty. She wasn't a very brave girl and felt much safer inside this room than venturing outwards, but she had a feeling the only way to get out of this mess is to explore and find a way to escape.

Corvus looked back at the door for a moment, eyes set sternly as though still trying to make sense of it all before she simply shook her head, seemingly banishing it all to the back of her mind. "I think we should. Or, at least, I don't think we should stay here in this one room for much longer. I don't know about you, but I don't want to risk having to go through that again..."

Or worse. If the door closed there was a damn good chance it wouldn't open again, and then they'd never get out.

Swallowing down the sick feeling she got at that thought, Corvus turned away from the door to look at her civilian companion. "We need to stick together. I don't know who did this, or why, but I'll do everything I can to get you out of here." She nodded slowly before glancing around once more. "... What are the odds that there's actually anything useful in amongst all of this junk?"
PostPosted: Fri May 21, 2010 8:41 pm

"Not likely," Devi said, turning around to get a full look of the room. When the hell did that broken lamp get on that table? And she could have sworn the chairs were different before. This was weird room - was someone messing with the furniture without them knowing? Were they not alone? "I think we might want something to use as a weapon, I don't know if we're alone in this place. Unless you have powers or something. I'm sorry, I don't really understand the whole Senshi thing."

That wasn't an invitation for an explanation, just a general comment. She dropped the paintbrush she had been holding to the floor and started searching other areas of the room for something she could beat or poke someone with - not that she likely will. Devi was far too much of a coward to hurt someone. Maybe a zombie. Zombie killing would be fun. But a person? No.

"Senshi do have powers. Each of them..." She continued on as she made her way over to a pile not far from Devi. "... Each of them correlates with their sphere. When I introduced myself to you it was as Sailor Corvus, the Senshi of Vengeance. Vengeance is my sphere; my specialty." A trace of a smirk curled the corner of her mouth as she paused on that thought for a moment before shaking her head so that she could simply continue on once more.

"Anyways... The way my powers work?" She let a piece of a rotting doily fall from her fingers before dusting herself off again. "They don't. Not unless I've been attacked first. It just means that I've gotten used to being... Resourceful." That was as good a word as any when it came to being a pro at BSing things.

Oh great, she gave an explanation anyways. "Okay," Devi said rather uncaringly. She didn't mean to come off rude, but she probably did anyways. She was far too busy focusing on what in all this junk she could use. Finally coming across a broken chair leg, she picked it up. "Do you think this would be good for anything?"

Devi then thought for a moment about what Corvus had just said. "So if I hit you with this chair leg, what can you do?"

Corvus stared long and hard at the other girl, seemingly wondering whether she had really just asked that. Her eyes narrowed and she answered plainly. "Send you flying across this room... Which I think might be a little counter productive, given our situation. Stick to bludgeoning anything else that moves. I'm on your side, Devi."

She let those words linger in the air for a moment before releasing the breath she'd been holding, letting go of a bit of the 'serious business' air that had been clouding around her. "I think that's a good start. Not quite a baseball bat, but I'm sure you could put enough force behind it to swing it like one if you needed to."

"I'll keep looking, but for now I've got this," Devi said. She tried to act useful, not having super powers to measure up with. In an attempt to make herself appear cool, she tossed the broken chair leg up in the air, letting it twirl above her head, hoping to catch it. However, like most things in Devi's life, things did not work out as planned. No, instead the broken edge of chair leg hit Devi on the right brow, giving her a small gash, before it fell to the floor.

"OWWWW!" she screamed, covering the wound with the back of her wrist. There was some blood and an open wound, and she didn't want to mix the guts of the bird's brain with the open wound. She was hurt, humiliated, lost, confused and frustrated. Devi was not in a good mood.

"Is there any kind of napkin or cloth or anything?" she snapped at the other girl, who seemed to be only trying to help her.

Corvus watched the piece of wood twirl through the air as though it was a baton, as if this was part of an act. She would have smiled and applauded had Devi caught it, but when it hit the other girl before falling to the floor with a clatter she stood, eyes fixed on the blood. Blood. The window. There had been so much blood. So much blood...

For a moment Devi was forgotten as Corvus was caught up in the call of her mind drawing her back to the window. Her eyes drifted towards it, brow furrowing as she contemplated walking back over, staring out it... Or was it in? In, out, in, out.

It was the other girl's question that drew her back out of her daze, head shaking as she looked back at the civilian. "I think I saw a pile of old clothing over there. Or cloth napkins on the tables by the food." She frowned as she watched her for a moment before heading over to one of the tables first, eventually coming across what appeared to be a moth eaten piece of cloth. She shook as much of the dust off of it as she could before holding it out to the other girl. "Are you alright?"
PostPosted: Sat May 22, 2010 6:05 pm

"I'm fine, I'm just unlucky," she replied as she grabbed the cloth. She cleaned off her hands, but recognized that even though Corvus had tried to clean it, it was far too dirty to put on an open wound. Instead, she continued to dap at the wound with the back of her wrist. It wasn't bleeding too badly, nothing she couldn't manage, but it stung like a b***h.

Devi reached out behind her and grabbed where she had dropped the chair leg, picking up the object. Only something was peculiar. It didn't feel like a wooden-rectangular shape in her hands, it felt cool, roundish, slimy, slithery and alive. Was it---Devi looked down to what was in her hands. Yup. It was a ******** NO!" Devi screamed. Not thinking clearly, she flung the chair-leg-turned-snake at the wall. Of course, as soon as it left Devi's hand, it resumed to being a chair leg. The chair leg cracked against the wall and broke in half, making it useless as a weapon. "I swear, it was a snake a second ago."

"I don't like this place."

If Devi had been Eridanus, or any of the other members of her team for that matter, she would have snarked at her. She would have impressed the importance of keeping a level head; of trying to use reasoning. She would have been the pot lecturing the kettle, but she wouldn't have had a table leg thrown at her... Or at least in her general direction (hey, the wall was close).

She waited until Devi had calmed down from her episode before slowly making her way over to where the 'snake' was lying, kicking it lightly with the toe of her shoe. "I think you killed it. Probably a good thing. We'll find something else... Maybe a poker, if there's a fire place in one of the other rooms." Provided they would even be able to get into them. "We'll give this room one more look over before moving out. What do you say we check that corner over there together?"

Her 'serious business' face slipped slightly, a brief glimpse of worry visible on her face. "... I don't like this place either."
PostPosted: Sat May 22, 2010 6:47 pm

"Alright, together," Devi said. She picked herself off the ground entirely and creeped behind Corvus, using her as a human shield of sorts. Devi had gone from scared, to foolishly brave, to rock-bottom scared. The only thing that could really help her now would be a frickin' Scooby Snack.

As the two girls approached the corner, Devi would peek her head out from over Corvus's shoulders. "What do you see?"

"I see..." Her eyes narrowed slightly at the shadows in the corner. The heap of junk looked so imposing, but it was the only corner that they had left unturned (so to speak). If they put this behind them they could head out of the room. They could explore the rest of their prison. They could plot their escape. They could..

"Devi. Devi... Run." Corvus turned on her heel quickly, reaching out to grab the other girl's hand after nearly stumbling over her. As she'd tried to tell the other girl about the pieces of junk she had seen just lying about in the corner the shadows had started to move. It might have been a play on the dancing lights of the candles, or maybe even a reflection from the shattered mirrors strewn across the room, but Corvus wasn't sticking around to find out. No, she wasn't going to risk herself, or her civilian, just to see what was beneath the shadows that were now moving. The shadows were moving.

"We need to get out of here. Hurry!" The senshi seemed panicked as she let her fear get a step ahead of her. The looming darkness, now filled with the sound of a dozen flapping wings, was far too familiar. It was a nightmare, one that she wasn't yet ready to visit or embrace, having thought that she had left it far behind somewhere else in Destiny City... Maybe even buried beneath her bed.

While she knew the shadows were chasing her she didn't even want to think about what sort of horrible thing might be after her new friend.

Devi didn't need more than Corvus's command to run to do so. She bolted from the corner as quick as she could and sped out of the propped-open door the led into the corridor. However, curiosity ultimately got the best of her and she turned back to see it: it was a stampede of animals, but something wasn't right. They were stiff as if dead: a bear, birds, deer, rabbit, raccoon, some dogs and even a cat. It came to Devi quickly - these weren't live animals, these were all the animals that she had taxidermied!

She stumbled as she began to run again and used the walls in the corridor to regain composure and balance. "CORVUS!" she screeched. "Where are we supposed to run!?" The corridor seemed to continue for infinite feet and her depth perception was toying with her - every time she thought she saw an exit approaching, it ended up being endlessly far away.

"I don't know! I don't..." There were so many doors. They had passed dozens by now and the thought lingered that they should just try to throw one open and duck inside. But if the doors didn't open... If they paused for just a moment too long and the shadow caught up with them?

"Here." Finally they came to a crossroad of sorts. She tugged Devi sharply to the left before stopping, eyes closing as her back pressed against a wall, chest heaving from the effort of running (in heels, no less). If they were lucky the shadows, and everything that lurked within them, would just keep on going.

After spending a moment catching her breath she released her hold on the other girl's hand, peering slowly around the corner. She was met with the chill of an empty hallway. "... Nothing."
