Skypiea (スカイピア, Sukaipia) is a land located in the sky above the Grand Line[1]. The people are unique in that they have small wings on their backs, similar to the stereotypical angel, though no use has been revealed for them. The daily life of sky people revolves around the use of Dials, which normally aren't available in the Blue Sea. As opposed to the beli of the rest of the world, it uses extols as currency. The people of Skypiea have a religious reverence for soil, because it can yield plant life much better than island cloud can, and also other materials that comes from the Blue Sea.

Seperated is the Vearth, a piece of land that was blown up from the Blue Seas. This is where God, the ruler of Skypeia, resides as a sacred and holy place. The current ruler is Herai.

Above the ship was a thick, dark, dense cloud. The Eternal Post quivered straight up in the direction and the ship halted. Crewmen quickly tied on safety cords, running to their positions. Herai remained on deck. She did not fear wind pressure, and so stayed safe in the palaquin.

"Ready the dials! Prepare for launch!"

Long posts descended into the water, swirling and collecting pressure. Smaller ones went out into the air, spinning around to collect even more pressure. Gauges rose as they waited for all the dials to fill their exact pressure in order to launch into Skypeia.

"3...2....1....LAUNCH!"

With a violent upward thrust, the entire ship shot directly up like a rocket, the pressure from the full dials gushing free into the ocean below. Workmen clung for dear life while Herai's hair merely whipped around as they were shot up. In her guarded room, Lamia clung to the wall in panic while the elephant mouse, as present as ever, squealed in her cupped hand.

Finally, like the bowing of a whale, they burst through the open cloud cover, splashing onto the White Sea. Workmen heaved on the deck from the extreme change in pressure, rubbing their popped ears. Herai brushed her hair back. "Set sail for the Vearth!" she ordered. And on the clouds, the oars dipped into the cloudy water and rowed.

Seyo clung to the top of the ship, having been hurled up there by the sudden stop in vertical acceleration. He shook his head lightly to get the fuzzy feeling that always accompanied cranial transformations out of his head. He could feel his lungs changing to adapt to the low-oxygen content of the upper atmosphere, and his body was changing density to compensate for the lower density of the 'water' below him. He came to the conclusion that if he didn't get Lamia off this ship soon it would be too late, and uttered a word whose meaning in English is unprintable.

He climbed down the large golden orb powering the ship, thankful that the orb was insulated, and behind one of the crew. A quick tap with the butt of his dagger ensured the man would sleep for a while.

Unfortunately, it didn't ensure that the other two guards wouldn't try and stab him.

Seyo backflipped over the railing, landing on a small boat like the one that the archaeologist had been in, and cut the cords binding it to the ship without a second thought, jumping off and latching on to the bottom of the small boat next to it. Well, he thought, as the commotion increased and the search intensified, They certainly know that I am here now.

And things might have gone much differently had he not noticed the window below him and, through it, the back of a familiar serpentine head.

"Milady! We've found an intruder on the ship! It-"

"Seyo," Herai finished the sentence with a sigh. "Very well. Bring Lamillia up here and I'll fly us both to the palace myself. Search for the intruder and try to get the ship into port on Angel Island for reinforcements."

Lamia was quickly yanked out of her room. Her guards attempted gentility, but the hurried orders of their God forced them to grip her arms tightly. As soon as they let go, Lamia found herself dizzyingly pushed into the crook of Herai's arm. She'd barely adjusted to the sudden shoot into Skypeia, much less the air and pressure. But Herai was quick to send them both flying into the air like a bird. Lamia was forced to latch onto her waist as she was carried through the air, watching the guards rush to get the ship up the cloud river and fight off Seyo at the same time. Her small rush of pride and admiration for her friend was swiftly punctured when Herai reminded her;

"I'm sorry to have to go through with his execution later."

Seyo continued hiding, even after the strange, unseen being ordered Lamia - or was it Lamillia now? - taken away. He reflected that the guards may have been diligent and thorough, but they certainly weren't the ripest of P'taie fruits on the bush.

And that gave him an idea.

He hopped up on deck, spreading his arms and smirking at the men that rushed him. "Good job. I did no't expec't you lo't t'o do this well, hones't'ly."

The guards stopped, confused. "What?"

"Come, now, men. Surely you did no't think tha't the God would leave only normal guards aboard the ship, no? I am one of her secre't guard, and I am supposed t'o remain unseen by any and all of the God's subjec't's. I would no't like t'o kill the lo't of you, so please do no't t'ell anyone of my exis't'ence, yes?"

The men started to relax, since this explanation fit perfectly with their own mental image of their God's ways. Of course she would have some sort of backup, a loyal servant who would secretly watch over her in case dire enemies managed to destroy her normal guards. "Sir, in that case, please watch out. We've been told to expect another being like yourself, but shorter and with stripes on his skin."

Seyo looked down at himself, though the guard took it to be a glance at the rest of the crew, due to the height difference.

Seyo's body had changed dramatically from the altitude-adjustment. His body had grown by at least three feet, and the stripes had disappeared from his skin to be replaced by close-set swirls that made him look like a bright blue cloud. "In't'eres't'ing. My li't'le brother is going af't'er the God again? He does no't learn. I will keep wa't'ch un't'il we reach the end of the river."

All according to plan.

"Milady!" Servants swarmed Herai and Lamia as they touched down in the beautiful courtyard, "How was your mission ma'am?"

"Almost successful, save for one Blue Sea dweller." She shook them off, ordering them about instantly. Lamia was gently tugged off by a few young maids. They treated her nicely enough for her to go with them, but she was still rigid with worry about Seyo. "Triple the Palace Guard. Send the White Berets to await the drekar. We have a bottom-dweller in Skypeia. If anything is to seem out of place, investigate immediately."

"And what about the daily convening of court?"

"Give them my apologies and have it delayed until the intruder is found. He has a thick accent, blue skin and is extremely tall. Take in custody anyone matching that in the slightest. Take in custody anyone who seems suspicious. And be sure to release the Speedy Sky Shrimp Riders to patrol the Vearth."

Having made her orders, Herai summoned a pair of servants. She took her seat on the throne, fluffed up and softened with pillows. The servants brought her food and water.

It wasn't easy being in charge of everything.

The ship pulled slowly into port. No-one exited for at least ten minutes, and when civilians began to wander on they found no cargo of any value, and no conscious crew. When woken later, none of them remembered the strange cloud-patterned secret guard. The entire guard force was mobilized, but no trace of the being who had been reported was found.

Seyo moved silently through the white cloud, his thin form helping him in this instance by making him much more hydrodynamic. He slipped through the thick cloud with ease, swimming just far enough beneath the surface that he couldn't be seen from above. he didn't doubt that a manhunt was on for him at the moment, the Sky Beings had always been temperamental...

and there was his target, gaudy as anything. The trees were mostly still there from when he had last visited, though more than a few had fallen. Thankfully that wouldn't be a problem. As he stepped onto the solid ground Seyo felt himself change drastically. Everything seemed to scale up until it was twice as large as normal, heights exaggerated to comic extremes. He felt... heavier, too. Certainly bulkier. And his skin was no longer blue, or at least was no longer as blue as it was normally. In response to the native serpentines he'd encountered last time his skin had turned a blotchy greenish-purple so that he could move among them unmolested. Apparently merely being in their home territory was enough now. And the reason for the exaggerated perspective, he realized, was because he was now only five feet tall, less than half his normal height. Well, that was certainly convenient. He waked down the main path, sneering as the guards approached to arrest him. "Oh, do shut up, you stupid idiots. Do I look like I'm t'en feet tall? Now let me through, I've just traveled two miles vertically to meet with your goddess, if she exists, and I don't want to be turned away. York-sama will be very... displeased if tha't has to happen."

One of them prodded him. "I don't know, he could be it."

Seyo sighed and rolled his eyes, prodding the man in the chest. "Listen, shrimp-for-brains, three things in my favor: First, I'm five feet tall. I've met some of the same species as your 'intruder' before and their children are t'aller than I am! Second, I'm not blue. yes, I know I'm green and purple. That's because I'm a Fishman, you idiot! And third, do I sound as if I have a heavy accent!?"

When given these bits of evidence, the guards had to concede that he was, as the available evidence suggested, not the intruder. One of them went to report to the God.

Herai had been full refreshed and ready to use her Mantra when the guards arrived with the news. "Milady, your guest from Fishman Island has arrived."

Herai's facial features remained perfectly still, but she was rolling her eyes inwardly. They were all loyal, trustworthy, and powerful guards...but they tended to be too hesitant sometimes. "You may send him in. Tell anyone else who is waiting to go away. I want everyone out of the courtyard now unless I call."

"Yes milady."

The open court was instantly empty. Only the shaded silk canopy and pillows of Herai's throne made any movement, rustling slightly with the ever present breeze, when they opened the doors.

"So you did find your way in you rascal."

Seyo paused when he saw the face of Lamia's captor, but he shook the hesitance off. Surely it was only an uncanny resemblance? He couldn't really be looking at the goddess of his people, the one whose name he used?

Remembering the ground he stood on, Seyo stretched, his bones lengthening and expanding until he was his normal height. "Of course. Your securi't'y is nothing like your father used t'o keep I't is for't'una't'e tha't I can disguise my accen't when I need t'o."

He bowed formally, smiling as he did. "Oeya'ina'uet'ietpo'ulaio."

"Greetings to you, O Daughter of the Sky."

"My father's security was in hare-brained buffoons who overused their power. These guards leave me as much more popular and favored God. I suspected your abilities before, but of course there were several things to think about. I'm surprised at your adaptation to Skypeia."

She shrugged and then looked at Seyo with a bored sort of glaze, "You are the audience of God now. And let me guess...your boon is for me to give you back the young snake girl?"

Seyo smiled benignly. His eyes did not reflect the kindness in his lips, nor did his voice when it came out. "No, my condi't'ion is that you give back Lamia, or Lamillia, if you will. In re't'urn, I promise t'o leave this place unharmed and withou't undue loss of life. If i't is refused, you and your guards will die within the hour for your peoples' role in the des't'ruc't'ion of the Olo't'seyo'et. I remember well the weapons given t'o the Olo'ua, the Clan of Ro't, who call themselves 'humans.' And I remember who i't was who gave the weapons t'o them. The Olo'iet'ulaio, the Clan of the Sons of the Sky, you Skypieans, are the ul't'ima't'e cause for the ex't'inc't'ion of my people. I think tha't one living, unharmed human is a ligh't price t'o pay for the forgiveness of a xenocide, yes?"

Herai wasn't the type to flinch, but his statement certainly raised an eyebrow. "The Poneglyphs, or True Stones as you call them, mentioned such weapons...named after gods as I recall. But my father never invested in such extreme pursuits and I only have interest in the World Government's part in the destruction...didn't they use..?"

Herai rattled inside with questions...if what Seyo said was true, then Herai had even more to pin against the World Government than she'd imagined. If she could only gain his trust...

"Perhaps we ought to talk history.." she suggested. "While I do not deny my heritage...Skypeia has long missed such a weapon...and none of my Poneglyphs are making sense to what you say. In any case...even if a God did pass on or lose a weapon...it is hardly a cause to come against us. Does a sword-maker know the fate of his blades? No, and for all I know, the world that once was is gone, and the Void History is still missing its pieces."

Seyo's eyes narrowed. "I am no't some unin't'elligen't Skypiean t'o be ben't t'o your will with words and promises as solid as the morning mis't. The World Governmen't is the descendan't body of humans tha't t'races i't's origins back t'o a group connec't'ed to your people. I't was before your father's time, bu't the blame s't'ill lies on the shoulders of the descendan't's of the original Xenocide, my friend Uriel."

Still not breaking eye contact, Seyo drew his dagger and started tossing it up into the air and catching it. It would be a sword in the hands of a lesser being. "I believe you misunders't'and wha't I say, Skypiean. I do no't wish the Ancien't Weapons t'o be released upon the world again, I merely wan't to have Lamia safe with me, and neither of us t'o be t'roubled by your kind again. In re't'urn, I will no't kill you where you s't'and."

Herai treated every word before with upmost seriousness. But at his attempt to threaten the young monarch, she could not surpress a laugh.

"You have obviously not attempted to slay a god before!"
