I can still remember that fateful day, the snow danced against the night sky, with no signs of ceasing to do so. The feeling of anguish and denial swelled in my heart as I was told my brother's fate. "I hate you, don't lie to me!" were the last words I said to her. I might as well have slapped her, seeing that look of pain on her face from my words. At the time I didn't care all I think was, 'Sean is not dead!'. In the freezing cold I huddled in my secret cavern. Crying so hard it felt like my tears would freeze my eyes shut against the icy winds.
That was all I could do, until I gazed upon a new wonderous sight before me. The falling snow had changed from white, to pink, then into a deep color of red almost like crimson. Back then as a small child the red snow seemed so beautiful to me, that I gone and danced with the snow as it fell. Unaware that the snow had a poisonous touch. But the snow did not touch me, it was like an invisible silhouette kept it away. Until one lone snowflake fell, and rested itself on my forehead. I laughed for the snow started to tickle, as more came to rest on my skin. Then I heard him, calling my name "Summer". But the voice was carried by the wind so I couldn't tell where it came from.
I ran trying to find him, where eventually I did. He had changed, he looked different and was with a mysterious man, who was covered with clothes head to toe. So much that not one patch of skin was visible. The mysterious asked if he had found her in a deep voice and I knew he was talking about me. Sean the brother who was thought to be dead said no and they left. I came out of the bushes I was hiding in, and found my mother and father's graves. Of course I cried and wept great tears, but I had to hurry after my brother before he left me behidn and alone.
As I ran through the village you'd think that i would stop, seeing the rows of dead bodies before me. For they had suffered the Red Snow's curse, the curse freezes and boils your blood once touched by the Red Snow. It is a quick but painful death, it is said that only the most pure survive it. But I did not know this back then, so I was confused on why everyone I knew was dead. For that moment I forgot why I came running to the village in the first place, till I heard the crunching of snow. I jerked my whole torso and saw them again.
Sean was walking behind the giant man he was close to the gate, if I didn't hurry he'd be gone forever. I had no time to think I picked up the pace in my running and shouted his name on the top of my lungs. "Sean!" he stopped in his tracks, happiness swelled within me that I shouted his name again "Sean!".
His whole body turned and face my direstion, the man also turned. Sean looked at him for one minute and I think the man nodded at him for one minute and I think the man nodded I couldn't tell because he was buried in clothes. Sean ran to me in the equal haste, we soon ran into eahc other, embracing. I cried in both sadness and happiness by his warm embrace.
I told him everything that happened that day and once I told him of the beautiful snow I saw. He let go and took three steps back horror struck for some reason.
"You were touched by the red snow?", he asked as if fighting great tears. I nodded confused as another snowflake rested onto my arm. He gasped at seeing the snow touch me and sank into the snow crying on his knees.
"Sean", I said confused. "Why are you so sad? The snow's only touched me eight times". But then another snowflake touched me, he saw and sank even lower into the snow. The man sighed and walked towards us slowly. I had the strangest urge to run far away from this man. But I dared not leave my brother again after seeing after so long.
He halted his advance once he camt to Sean, I could his eyes through his goggles. He looked at Sean then looked at me as if he could see my very soul. "She hasn't turned", he said and sound of his voice was so deep and cold that i shivered from the sound of it. "Sean, I know this ins't what you wanted but there is nothing you can do now. We'll have to wait till she changes then lets just drop her off at the Uncle's house you were talking about." Sean didn't answer him and I just stared dumbfounded and confused, I was about to ask but then a tenth snowflake landed on my skin. This drew the man's attention he looked at then looked up in the sky, I did to wondering what he was look at. As I looked up I oculd see the surrounding snow avoid me like it didn't want to touch my skin. It was so strange, thousands of snowflakes, but only ten touched me.
But it soon changed to eleven, when one snowflake broke through the invisible barrier and landed on my cheek. I put my hand on the cheek it landed, expecting to feel some sort of wetness but there was none. The snowflakes presence was completely gone.
"What be this?", I heard the man say, and drew my attention back to him. But I would soon regret it, for he was staring at me with great intensity. Something inside me was telling me to run until I heard Sean speak again. "The snow" he said I drifted my gaze back to him only to see him staring at the sky. "The snow" he said again in a harsh whisper, "is disappearing." I looked around me to find he was right it was slowing down it'd only be a matter of time. In only what seemed like minutes the snow slowed and came to a complete halt. We all waited in silence, and after a few moments I heard my brother sigh.
"At least she isn't the one you want", he said with great relief and then turned to the man and continued. "Isn't that right Kole?"
'So that's his name', I thought. The man named Kole sighed and nodded.
"I had such high hopes, but still...," he stopped and starred at me, "Why hasn't she changed?". Then all of a sudden he looked at the sky as if something caught his eye. He took off the scar covering his face and smiled a wicked smile. "That explains why". I looked up at the direction he was looking at and gasped. There was one more red snowflake only this one was glowing a brilliant white and blue light. It was the most beautiful snowflake I had ever seen. I soon forgot everything, where I was, my past, even who I was. The only thing that I was aware of, was that snowflake. As it came through the invisible barrier, I cupped my hands and lifted them up to catch it. I could feel myself smile as it floated just above my hands. I could feel some sort of energy from teh snowflake, and I was able to pull it to my face. Through the brilliant light I could see the intricate design of it. Never had I seen such a snowflake, I yearned to feel its icy cold feeling. But before I could fully grasp it in my hands, my brothers frantic cries broke through my trance.
"Do not touch it!", he cried. "Do not touch it!". I looked to find Kole holding Sean back, as he tried hard to fight him off and get to me. I was confused why would he not want me to touch it? But before I could ask I felt a suddne coldness in my hands. I looked to find my snowflake on the palm of my hand sparkling its glorious light. Then it disappeared absorbing into my skin.
As soon as it was absorbed, the brilliant white and blue light errupted from my hands, and wrapped around me. I could hear my brother shout my name three times. But after that I heard nothing. I looked all around me at the swirling vortex of light, never had I seen something so beautiful in my life.
The vortex seemed to go on forever, for it blocked me from any other point of view. When suddenly it came closer to me, so much so I could reach my hand out and touch it. It was strangely cold and it stung. I tried to avoid the light but it soon swallowed me whole. Every part of my body was touched by the poisonious light. Within I could feel myself changing but its a vague memory for that light cause me great pain.
The first I felt was great cold, so cold every cell in my body was crying, screaming for warmth! Course there was none which made the cold even more excruciating. My hair soon started to feel as if it was made of ice. Though soon to my relief this feeling started to fade. But I would soon wish for the cold feeling to return, for right after came a great pain that made me scream. The pain was something I had never felt before. It was like a hundred shocks of lightning hitting every nerve in my body. I thought I was going to die there and now. I crouched my knees into the snow and wrapped my arms around my chest. As if that was where the pain was coming from and I was trying to make it leave.
A few more minutes passed, before the pain finally subsided and once the pain was gone the light came closer till my entire body was glowing. I stood up and turned but all I could see was white and blue light, I almost panicked and thought I was blind. But it soon disappeared and I could see my brother and Kole looking intensely at me. But there looks soon changed, and they were very different from each other.
Sean had a look of horror and pain when he looked at me. As if I had become someone else. Kole on the other hand smiled a wicked smile. As if he had won some sort of prize.
"Well", he said "looks like we have finally found what we were looking for." Sean looked at him, then looked at me. Never had I seen him so afraid. But I could feel that my face was even more terrorified, as I looked into this man's cold, black souless eyes.
Kole..no that man advanced towards me, his step catlike and wicked as if stalking his prey. Again the urge to run came upon me, but I did not move. For I did not want to leave my brothers side again. But as he came closer I could help but take a step back, this man everything about him was shouting at the top of its lungs Danger!
