// rider profile

Character Name: L'tan
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Straight

Description
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 140 lbs
Skin tone: Darkly tanned
Hair: Dark brown
Eyes: Black
Build: Wiry and very skinny
Other: Lothan has square hands with long blunt fingers and heavy calluses. He is quick and agile and smiles frequently. He prefers fitted clothing and sleeveless tunics, and pays meticulous attention to the color and condition of his clothes.

Personality: Lothan is intense and stubborn, with an independent, mischievous streak that has calmed only slightly as he's grown. When Lothan devotes his attention to something, he devotes all his attention to it; once he decides he wants to do or learn something, nothing short of major catastrophe can shake him from his goal. This drive can blind him to reason and common sense from time to time, though it's proved an asset in his craft training. In matters that don't interest him, he can be flighty and forgetful.

Lothan is generally friendly, but doesn't get close to many people. However, once he makes a friend, he's attached for life. Likewise, he holds grudges forever. He likes wordplay and teasing, but isn't always sensitive enough to the feelings of others to realize when he's being a jackass. He probably didn't mean anything by what he just said. He just doesn't realize he offended you. But what's said can't be unsaid, so once he's made a statement he'll stick stubbornly by it; his pride won't allow him to back down, even if he regrets his words.

Lothan is energetic, always on the move. He finds it almost impossible to sit still without fidgeting unless he has his full attention on a task. He carries little bits of busywork with him most of the time; when having a conversation or listening to a lecture, he may be absently plaiting a bracelet or whittling at a bit of wood. This doesn't mean he's not paying attention. He just needs something to occupy his hands. This habit means that he often has something small to present to a pretty girl or a fidgety child. He likes to give away his handiwork and get a smile in return.

Though he can read, he doesn't care much for it. It requires too much sitting still, and anyway, too much reading gives him a headache. He has an excellent memory - when he's paying attention.

History: Lothan doesn't really have any idea who his parents were, and doesn't much feel the lack. Raised in the Weyr from a very young age, he got into everything and tended to be underfoot at the worst possible times. He stole small objects compulsively and pranked anyone and everyone. When he met his friend Therion, the general reaction was a mix of dismay and relief; the boys became fast friends, Therion bringing some small and welcome measure of common sense to Lothan's wild schemes, and Lothan egging Therion on in their shared mischief. When Therion suggested that they should become "blood brothers," Lothan agreed enthusiastically.

The close, brotherly friendship remained strong even while the boys were separated for their craft apprenticeships, in spite of the short and awkward letters they only occasionally exchanged. Lothan threw himself into his new craft wholeheartedly, though he never quite stopped missing the Weyr that had been his home.

Now, in his 18th turn, Lothan has returned to the Weyr as a Candidate, excited at the prospect of becoming a rider and thrilled to be reunited with his brother and partner in crime.

Other: Lothan can spin, weave, and dye fabric; he can cook a meal without making it inedible; he has a good grasp of glassworking theory through his friend Therion, though he's never done it himself. He's good at fishing and enjoys it thoroughly. He swims like a fish himself and loves the sun.

His handwriting is incurably messy and almost unreadable. He talks with his hands and has an unfortunate tendency to knock things over if they're within gesture range. He is spectacularly ticklish, though he can hold out for almost thirty seconds before collapsing in hysterical giggles.

Name: Capeth
Color: Brown
Personality: Capeth, all things considered, is surprisingly mellow. That's not to say he's not proud, but all things in moderation, right? This handsome brown, large for his color, is strong and level-headed, with a surprising capacity for planning ahead and a remarkably long memory for a dragon. Nobility runs in his blood, and he won't let his forget that, or anyone else, for that matter. He requires high standards of himself and his, and Capeth's morality is something that is very black-and-white, with very few shades of grey. Wiggle-room is not something Capeth will give an inch on: you're either doing what's right and good, or you're doing wrong -- end of story. He expects chivalry, loyalty, and honesty at all times, and he'll give 110% of that from himself. He refuses to use underhanded tactics even when they would probably be more effective. Why would he want to sully himself? Clearly, the battle favors the righteous.

As a result of this inflated sense of nobility, however, sometimes Capeth finds that his idea of the most 'righteous' course of action doesn't always mesh with common sense, and his pride suffers a hit when an action doesn't quite have the outcome he planned. After these sorts of events, his lifemate will have a very disgruntled, confused brown on their hands. Why would anyone so demean themselves? Capeth will want to know, and his rider had better have the answer. He just doesn't understand the appeal of doing wrong. Still, he doesn't have the might (or, in his mind, the right) to punish those who wrong him or his ideals, because he recognizes there are as many codes of morality as there are dragons and humans on Pern -- he just thinks his is correct!

This isn't to say, however, that Capeth considers himself in general superior. He's more than content to play second-fiddle when it's called for, as long as he's accomplishing something for the greater good. He wants to make an example of himself, a legacy of sorts that he hopes will live on long after he is gone. In fact, this extraordinary brown has the highest respect for one of his clutchmates, bronze Pioth, whom he supports without question from day one. Above all else, Capeth pushes for Pioth to excel, to go above and beyond the call of duty -- and if he is capable and it's within his code of honor, he'll do anything to see that his clutchmate succeeds in any endeavor. This intelligent, sturdy brown will act as a moral counselor and a strong support for Pioth, and encourage His to do the same for Pioth's lifemate.

Why ME!?
At first glance this seems a match of opposites. Lothan is energetic and mischeivous where Capeth is steady and noble. However, if you take a better look, you'll find these two are quite suitably matched!

Lothan is fiercely loyal once he makes his ties and this is something that drew Capeth. He would never consider someone who is unable to forge and hold ties - what kind of unscrupulous creature do you think he is? Capeth is level-headed and devoted, just like Lothan and his rider's tendency to hold grudges isn't something that's particularly negative either. You see, Capeth has a highly developed sense of nobility and a memory to match - that Lothan holds grudges means he won't forget slights and ignoble acts, something this brown knows he can count on.

Indeed, Lothan balances him perfectly! He knows he can be rather unbending in his views and stubborn in his approach so His' ability to joke and have a little fun will help mellow this loyal brown out. Don't expect him to always put up with mischief however! He won't be afraid to tell His that he should be more upstanding. Warm and tender with friends, supportive, steadfast and loyal... Lothan embodies Capeth's strengths and smoothes out his weaknesses just as Capeth does for Lothan.
