So I am sure we have all wanted to post something along these lines, and I try not to give people reasons for posting something like this in regards to me, but I am sure I have came across as self-righteous more than I realize.
My patience nearly exhausted today, and I almost posted this directly at someone in another forum. Then I got to thinking. Some of the people here in Gaia have been having the same issues as I have so... for everyone's appreciation, and as a reminder to treat others as we like to be treated.....
You make some good points, but it's really hard to get through them with the tone that they come across in. I seriously doubt many people will stomach their way through those post of flaming self-righteousness.
At the risk of turning your violent temper against me: Some people don't feel that certain issues are all that important, do you have to come across so violently. When they post about something that they are not 100% knowledgeable in, it is because they are expressing some interest. When you are hateful to people, it just turns them off to a new opportunity to learn. Why are you here if you do not want to help people find new routes to turn their curiosity to?
So GI Joe, if you want people to know stuff, then present it to them in a way they can learn about it, because you can't know something until you learn it, and, "Knowing is half the battle," right?
Honestly, I myself would like to see more acceptance and tolerance here, because that was the main reason I joined the guild. I really think that this place is unique and awesome. Lately, I have noticed attitudes with a few people that are almost malicious to others. I don't feel that I myself have been attacked personally, but when I see others who are somewhat singled out, it makes me worry that I'm next.
I like the guild because it wasn't like the CB/M&R, but I am starting to get concerned.....
Anyway, I love you guys, I am sure you can relate.

This pickled vegetable...I rarely ever go into M&R because of all the self-righteous trolling and just plain ignorance.
I also much prefer this guild and I'd like it to stay this way. ... could kick your a** !!

I agree. The point of debate isn't who wins, but what we can learn from each other. I also know there are people like myself who get aggressive when debating. It's nothing personal; I'm usually in an environment where one debates with formality and gusto. I have to remind myself (and get supervised by my bf) that many aren't formal nor trained in debate on the internet.
At the same time, I can't debate when egos are involved. No one can.

I'm almost completely inactive on this website in general now because of this, in part. xp It's good to remember though that most of the user base here is young people. Partly, they don't know any better. They don't always understand how they come across or the art of editing and refining the tone/appearance of something you write. Young people also often have a know-it-all attitude and will improperly position themselves as authorities on a topic when in fact they are not. Ignorance is expected due to mere inexperience. Then there are those, 4shi, who do debate to "win" and prove a point. Regardless, we deal with it as we deal with it.

I've seen this up and down the past few weeks. It's been incredibly frustrating for me. Nothing gets done in an angry environment. The purpose of the debate is to educate and be educated, and if one or both parties is yelling, everyone is wasting their time. Even if the other party can't be convinced, you can still learn, and teach the dozens of people who just float these forums.

Starlock Then there are those, 4shi, who do debate to "win" and prove a point. I'm not quite sure I understand this. Are you insinuating that aggressive debaters are out to "win"? Because if you read my post you would certainly see that's not what I'm saying about that at all.
