Pathways, pathways everywhere. Pathways that lead no where, ones that just doubled back into circles and made them SEEM like they lead somewhere. Even the occasional time she is brought back to the larger path. It seemed like these paths lead somewhere, and yet no where. The woods surrounding her had not changed at all, she has even yet to see any form of wildlife even though she can HEAR them. She was now wondering if her mind was playing tricks on her, was she even awake or was this world all a dream? It felt real- she normally did not pay attention to how her dreams smelled while within them. For good measure- she pinched her wris- ACK, ok yes this was real. Owch that hurt! She whined inwardly.
One thing that was also nagging her, was that she seemed to be the only 'human' here. Was she stuck in some sort of mental paradox? Had the washing machine of reality spit her out into some hopeless replay of reality?
One thing was for certain- the laughter that had once started in her head seemed to play out all around her. She tried her best to ignore it- pretend it was not there- but the more the tried the more it showed. The tree's seemed to be making faces at her...
She needed to find something, ANYTHING breathing that she could. She felt this world would drive the redhead insane.

It was the most... surreal thing that Ametrine had ever experienced. She had thought her nightmares had been strange, but this went so far beyond them that it was incredible. The first byroad that she'd taken had led her nowhere, and crankily she had traced her way back to the main road. Now she was on a divergent path, and could only think of the Wizard of Oz. She was following the yellow brick road, as it were, except that she had no idea where it might go, and the thing wasn't consistent. There were so many pathways that she was, in a word, lost. She hated being lost.
Not so much because she was frightened; no, Ametrine had decided when she had first set out on this course that no one and nothing would get to her. Sort of. Kind of. A little maybe. But she wasn't frightened. She was a bit angry, wondering who or what had brought her here. Still half-convinced that she was suffering an ill effect from the painkillers her doctor had proscribed, she made her way past places where she could have sworn she saw movement. A hand gesturing her way, beckoning her off somewhere. At times, she thought she heard a voice, or the warm hiss and crackle of a fire.
A campfire, she had assumed. Not knowing whose camp it might be, she was unwilling to explore off of the path. "Hello?" she called out, scanning the trees around here. "Is anyone there?" Her current trail was comparable to the one she had left, but she had no way of knowing where it might lead. That was why it was important to pay attention, to keep track of things. She had wanted to skulk along the way she did at night, but there was nowhere to hide that wasn't among the rotten logs, and moss covered landscape.

Was that a camp fire she heard crackling? The sound pulled her out of her momentary state of insanity and back into, well, whatever reality this was. Green eyes flickered around, wondering where the sound came from. To the right? To the left? Just for good measure her eyes also flicked upwards- nope just trees.
"This is driving me nuts.." She sighed- now sure than ever that all these noises were of things her mind made up and flung back at her. While she now knew this was not a dream, she wished she knew why she was here or then again how to get OUT. She continued down the pathway looking for anything that might say she wasn't alone. A rustle to her right side nearly scared the poor senshi out of her skin; she waited for whatever it was to emerge.
"Awwh... hello little thing." She said looking down at the small rabbit that leaped out. It was adorable and small, with bright yellow eyes that seemed to stare into her. The glint that came off them was almost as if it was begging her to step off the path and pet it. She was reaching out with her hand when something made her stop, a sound.
"Hello?"
She turned away from the small animal when the voice called out. Was that rabbit...speaking to her? Turning back to face it her eyebrow quirked as she stared at it puzzled. "Hello?"
"Is anyone there?"
She was certain now that it was not the rabbit. Turning her back towards the creature she called out loudly. "HELLO?" This felt like a massive game of telephone.

"HELLO?"
Well, that was new. Never before had anyone answered her when she'd called out. Ametrine had been sure that she'd heard a voice before, but never so distinct. "Over here!" she called back, trying to reach the voice without leaving the path. It would be better not to be alone, for now. She didn't like to have company on her hunts, but this was an entirely different issue. She was in a new, unfamiliar place, and she was fairly sure that she was lost. How one could be found in a place that they had never before been, she didn't know, but until she had heard that voice she hadn't believed she'd ever make progress.
Now though, she felt a hair more confident in the situation. Was that... a flicker of red? No, orange. ... No, definitely red. A fire, perhaps? She hadn't wanted to find the campfire, but in all honesty it might be better to bite the bullet and seek out assistance from the camper. "I saw your fire and I..." Oh. That... that was not a fire. Blinking, Ametrine took in the most fiery head of hair that she had seen since her foray with Captain Obsidian. It was almost disappointing, really. She'd been looking forward to the prospect of warming her hands by the fire.
Sizing the stranger up, she recognized her outfit as being a fuku. What, really? All of this, and her first encounter with something human was a senshi? She almost allowed her disgust to show in her expression, but caught herself just in time. Eh, a senshi would be more useful than nothing at all, surely. She would just choose not to bandy this about later, when she met up with her own teammates. "Are you lost as well?" she asked unnecessarily. It was pretty obvious that the redhead was as out of place in this forest as she was.
Her hand clutched reflexively for her pitchfork, closing just a little too tightly for comfort. ... Of course. How could she have forgotten that her weapon was nowhere to be found? It bothered her on a rather basic level to be weaponless in the presence of an enemy. Well, her best bet was probably to act casual, as though there was nothing wrong beyond their present predicament-- her present predicament. No sense in borrowing more trouble than she already had.

If she had not been expecting it, the sudden appearance of the girl in purple probably would have startled her. The female seemed to slink out of the forest, as if she was a part of it. True the color purple normally did not belong in a forest of greens and browns, but it blended in a lot easier than the white of her own fuku. Lyra could be compared to a albino in a sea of neutral colors, not really belonging.
One thing could be said from all this, this was the second living thing she had seen. One that she could actually communicate with. While her outfit was a bit different Lyra did not associate this to be a outfit of a negaverser. Lyra has known her fair share of them, but this one seemed like something that someone would actually wear. It looked like a stylized version of a sari, the female looked young enough that she had fashion tips so it made sense! Normally the negaverse outfits stuck out like a sore thumb... plus this one did not summon a weapon upon spotting her. That had to be a good sign, right? Lyra had yet to realize that her powers were useless here.
Ignoring the rabbit (whom was, mysteriously not there anymore) she approached the other human. "Very, these paths seem to lead no where." She shrugged her shoulders. Lyra's mood had picked up tremendously, she was ecstatic to see that she was not the only living thing stuck in this paradox. Holding out a hand to the other she said "Super sailor Lyra." She figured it'd be best to remain in the code of silence while here... she was in her fuku, and figured it best to give out senshi names. She had not tried to power down just yet, in case a senshi was needed. "Lyra for short." She waited for the other to grasp her hand, a friendly smile on her face.
In the meantime- to the side of the duo where the rabbit had disappeared... the sound of crackling flames grew louder.

Right. There was no way she was going to give her full name. It wasn't particularly that she was afraid to do so, but more that she preferred to have the upper hand here. In Ametrine's opinion, withholding the information that she was a part of the Negaverse would give her the advantage. She gave Lyra a long, considering look, and reached out to shake her hand. "Ame. I've been lost for... well, I don't know how long. It's hard to keep track of time without a cellphone or a watch." There. Perfectly normal, right?
Of course right. 'Super Sailor Lyra' sounded a little ominous. She'd never met a super before, and she wasn't entirely sure that she was prepared for the experience. Now was the time to prove that she could handle herself in difficult situations. Since the woman didn't seem inclined to attack her, she decided to roll with things as they were. "Lyra, then. Shall we try to find a way out of these woods?" Anything, anything at all to find a bit of civilization.
Distractedly, Ametrine gave Super Sailor Lyra a smile, though the expression did not quite meet her eyes. No, she was far too wary to be at her ease around the other young woman. "I tried a couple of paths before, but they all seemed to lead to nowhere." Nowhere and nothing but the phantom sounds and sights of before. Now wasn't that just incredibly frustrating? In the distance, she thought she could hear a toad. She'd never heard a real toad before in her life until arriving here (however that had happened), but there she was, hearing toads... in the middle of $*@#ing nowhere.

After it was said- she turned red a little. Why did she have to say super? Too late now but all the same... some things were better left unspoken.
She was too naive to notice that the smile only reached her mouth and not her eyes, Lyra was just the kind of person to look for the good in everyone. Look as the glass half full, never half empty. She enjoyed meeting people, she was never someone whom enjoyed solitude. Before this reality dream world occurred she had met up with her team mates just beforehand, it brought her out of her depression and back to who she was. Still giving that childish grin, the red head nodded.
"Please. I dont think i could stand being here alone any longer." She nodded and started to walk in the direction where the road split. "Ive tried a few too and most just doubled back to here..." She nodded down towards the largest of the roads. "Have you seen anything else here? All i keep hearing is toads and what sounds like fire." and laughter, but she would keep that last part to herself.
"I haven't dared walk off the road... even though it feels like something is telling me to."

There was a noise on the path behind them -- an odd sound, for rather than the swish of leaves and branches, or even the crack of splitting wood, or the rustle of forest creatures going about their daily habits, this sound was more of a long, slow creaking. It was the sound of a door, well-balanced, but on old hinges, creaking back and forth in the wind.
The path behind them was narrow, barely wide enough across for one person to pass. It seemed much narrower by far than the path ahead, more crowded. Perhaps the path before them led nearer to a main road, but then -- perhaps the path behind them led to a cabin. Hadn't they heard a door? It had distinctly sounded like a door.
Neither direction seemed an entirely sure prospect.

Ametrine turned sharply at the sound of something inorganic, the sound of something... out of place. She didn't... remember hearing anything like that before. No, she was sure that she hadn't heard that sound before. "Wait. Did you hear that?" she asked, frowning as she stared in the direction of the noise. "I think I heard something." Not just something, even. She had thought-- had sworn-- that she had heard a door. Huh. Well, maybe this place wasn't entirely unpopulated after all.
Except that somehow that didn't seem encouraging. No, that was not actually a pleasant consideration right now. "Was that a door?" Hinges, maybe. Maybe? A door that was open, not locked or closed, from the sound of it. Frowning all the more, she held up a hand as if to ward Lyra off from moving forward. "What do you think? Should we check it out?" She didn't want to check it out, but then again, she didn't want to keep wandering aimlessly either.
It had never seemed like a good idea to leave the path beforehand, so maybe it wasn't now. But then again, they ran the risk of wandering who knew where without provisions or even a map. "Do you think that we could find something useful in there, wherever there is?" Was it worth the risk, really? Did they have a choice? Yes. They had a choice. The trouble was, Ametrine wasn't sure that either choice was the right one.

She too heard the creaking at the same time Ame had. It caused the senshi to stop and wheel around- noticing the path that went by unnoticed before. "Shh..." She said- listening intently to see if the noise was still ther- AH! yes, there it was again!
"It... does sound like a door, a old door." She had the same puzzled look- but it soon turned to a look of curiosity. She started to inch towards the pathway... it was still a pathway after all! Similar to the others, just less used. She was soon stopped by a hand in her way when she tried to step towards the path.
"It couldn't hurt to look right? We can be cautious, if anything seems out of place we can turn right around again." Naive as ever. They did say that red heads were just blonds with high blood pressure.
"I say we risk it." Moving around the hand she walked past it and grabbed the wrist of Ametrine. She tugged lightly on it- as they moved single file down the new pathway as cautiously as possible.
She didnt want to admit it- but it felt like the eyes of all the creatures scurrying around were on them.

"Um." Ametrine didn't get to get out more of her protest, because already Lyra was dragging her toward the sound. "..." Oh, this was not going to end well. Still, there was the chance that if something came out to get them, Lyra would get all heroic on her. That, actually, was something she needed to encourage. Heroism never did anyone good, unless it happened to be in the form of taking hits for someone else, and one happened to be the someone else.
Do you know what the definition of a hero is?
Someone who gets other people killed.
Oh yeah. Okay, maybe that was not such a good plan. Even so, she wasn't sure that she had a choice. It was always the people who split up in horror movies that got ganked. Ametrine was not going down in such an appallingly stupid manner. Right, so... here was her line of thinking:
Tactic: Run toward the potential danger. Logic: REVERSE PSYCHOLOGY. The monster at the end of the book wouldn't eat her because she had read through the book. ... And the monster was the Cookie Monster, so maybe that did not apply. But the point was, it would leave the enemy off balance. Assuming there was an enemy and not just an empty cabin somewhere.
Was there ever an empty cabin somewhere?
In the middle of overgrown, toad invested woods?
Answer: No.
It was all in her head. If they went to the cabin (if indeed it was a cabin) and discovered that it was completely harmless, she would feel quite the fool for concerning herself over trivial matters. But Ametrine was not going to forge ahead blindly. Not today. Not when there were seemingly phantom voices, and fires, and who knew what else. "This might come as a surprise to you, Lyra, but we don't know what is waiting for us ahead." With that, she grabbed for a stick, just whatever she could find.
As nice as combat training was, sticks were nicer. Sticks were good for jabbing, and poking, and for thwacking. All of the above could do her some good in a tense situation. And who knew? Maybe there would be a dog waiting in the cabin. If so... a surprising number of animals responded well when treated as though they were household pets. Your household pets, in particular. 'Fetch the stick!' would get her places that 'Oh god, oh god it is going to jump me!' would not.

A pile of straw was strewn across the path, about half a foot high. It seemed to have been in neatly cut, tied bundles, once. A few of the ties still held.

End well or not- Lyra kept a firm grip on the others wrist until she was sure that she was following and not going to turn around the other direction. Lyra might have been considered 'brave' for doing this, but she also was wary and probably would have lost her cool if she was left to do this alone. Security came in numbers.
Lyra was still under the impression she had her magical powers, she still did not realize that she couldn't henshin down either. Not that she would, stranger or not if they were stuck together for some time Ame would always know Lyra as Lyra.
"We also have no clue what was waiting for us at the end of that larger road either." She replied back to the other girl, finally letting go of her wrist. "At least this road is not doubling back or ending in a dead end."
A little further ahead Lyra stopped in her tracks, being a one person wide pathway it would probably cause Ametrine to be irritated. "....Straw?" She stared at the pile puzzlingly. "What is straw doing all the way out here, i cant see any farms being out here." The senshi moved forward- eyes still on the new straw'd road. Taking one of her shoes she nudged some of the un bound straw. "Maybe we can just walk over it? Keep going?" She looked around to see if she can find any more straw- or was this the only source?

Grimly, Ametrine observed the straw. "Were the situation not what it is, I would say that we should just burn it." Being an individual who make good use of cover, she recognized the opportunity for it when she saw it. Carefully, she prodded the straw with her stick, frowning like a rainy day. "No, I don't like this at all... but you're right, who knows what awaits us either way?" They might as well pick one direction and stick to it. Stalling wasn't going to help matters, not at all.
There was indeed security in numbers-- up to a point. The mob mentality had never helped anyone. Or rather, the herd mentality. Like hell Ametrine was going to be a part of any stampede. There were better ways to die than to be crushed under the feet of one's terrified comrades. Personally, she had a rather long list of preferable deaths, and she wasn't ready to meet any of them.
"Ehhh, yes, there is that. This road leads somewhere." Road might be overplaying things just a tad. Just a smidgen. Gritting her teeth, she continued to prod and poke at the straw, much more prepared to deal with something that came out of hiding under her control, rather than something that sprang out at her. Still, she could roll with the punches, when it came to that. Literally.
"Fine. We can walk over it," she said rather sourly, because she did not at all like the idea. She was letting Lyra call the shots right now, because she wanted to be free to act when the time came. If the time came. Also, it was better to let her enemy's back be to her than to have Super Sailor Lyra behind her. Rogues might do it from behind, but she wouldn't completely discount senshi. For all she knew, they were as sneaky as ever a rogue. After all, they certainly had the citizens of Destiny City fooled.

The straw seemed, apparently, harmless. They walked on for a few more minutes before they heard the door-like creaking again -- yet once more, the sound was behind them. Had they passed the cottage? It sounded so close.
They looked back, towards the sound, but all they could see was the path they had come down. It was narrow, very narrow, barely wide enough for a human to even scrape through, pushing branches all the way. Only . . . had it been that narrow? That wasn't what they remembered.
Up ahead, a pile of sticks lay across the road, maybe a foot of the ground. They'd been carefully knotted together once, like a beaver's dam, but now seemed to be castoffs.
