So, everyone in concert band went out into the storage room to help clean it. I was told to help 3 other guys move a filing cabinet into the band room, and when we walked in there, we noticed this sopomore clarinet player, just sitting in there reading. Her name is Abby. Dustin, who was pulling the cabinet, said to her, "Hey, Abby. Why aren't you out there with everyone else?" and she says "Oh, I'm not in marching band." "Oh, I thought you were in marching band." "No, I quit after my freshman year." He then says, joking very heavily, "Oh. Well then I've lost all respect for you." Abby, who has no sense of humor, and can't handle any swearing (even 'crap' is like Satan is crawling out of our mouths. She's a preacher's daughter. She's in a shitty small-town youth symphony and thinks she's God.) replies, "Then, I've lost all respect for you too. Sorry for being an actual musician." Now, all 4 of us, being accomplished musicians, heard this in real time. We could have ******** up her world in a few simple sentences. We, however, ignored her and went back to swearing very loudly.
And, during marching season, one of my friends on drumline told her, "Yeah, we did pretty well at a competition this weekend." She, being absolutely perfect, replied, "You must not have been competing against a lot of bands then." Who the ******** allows her to talk like that? You're not Jesus. ******** no more of a musician than anyone else is. She's in concert band. She squeaks every other note. She made last clarinet, last band in an honor band. She then made last clarinet, second-to-last band the next year.
tl;dr: stuck-up bitchy musicians who believe they are Jesus.

Some people just think the world belongs to them, that they're the only worthwhile person out there and if they don't like it, it shouldn't exist.
She appears to be one of them from what I see in your post. Do your best to leave her alone and remember that marching band isn't for everyone, maybe she just doesn't like it. Maybe her year, the band sucked and now she thinks marching bands suck all the time. I don't know. There's always someone who thinks they're the best even if they don't practice; this one girl at my school claims to have quit both marching and concert band because: "I'm too good for all of them, I don't need to practice. I coulda made first chair but I didn't feel like it."
Band programs are often pretty big, try to stay away from her and her apparent negativity/rudeness.
Although, instead of 'rocking her world' and cursing at her/around her, your buddy could have just told her he was joking and ended the whole thing.

Squeaky stuck-up clarinet players= DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 'nuff said. Learn to play yer clarinet. Woodwinds are sorta easy to learn to play, and if you are squeaking EVERY OTHER NOTE you shouldn't be stuck-up. Seriously. Just ignore her, gives her less people to be a conceited jerk to.

Maybe she's really insecure about her playing. She probably quit because she couldn't do it, and the fact that you're bringing it up is making her feel not included. Either way though, she's an under classman, and she should not be acting like that

How annoying. :
I understand if some people don't really like marching band, but come ON. She sounds like the trumpet players in my band that quit their senior year (that our Jazz director is still bagging on for their recording sesh playing).

What an awful person. If she had been our band and said that, she would have had about one hundred and forty pairs of feet up her a**.
But since you might not want to go that way, I think there's something you need to remind her, or at least bring to her attention "people who aren't in band (or in this case: marching band), AREN'T in band because they're not GOOD ENOUGH to be in band" and that's something you can take to the bank.

Someone should inconspicuously confront her about her behavior someday. :/ Such a shame that she's like that, really.
