So, anyone that remembers me from a while back might know that my steampunk alter-ego is Airship Captain Michael Gifford, Mercenary-Captain of the Riptide.
i was going to write a full story based around him a while back, but i have decided instead, i am going to create a series of short stories, maybe fifty to a hundred pages each, and have been developing characters the past few days now that i finally have time to get back to writing. These are only short bio's of a handful of the characters, and might give away some of the plot i have put some thought to (not necescerally how the stories will pan out, but one possible storyline so far)
so without further ado:
Michael Gifford:
Occupation- Mercenary/Airship Captain (Cpt. of the Riptide)
Age- 21yrs Old
Country- English
Biography:
Although young, Giff has already fought in 2 different wars as a soldier, eventually turning his back on his country and becoming s soldier of fortune. He will work for almost anyone, if given the right price, and has even been considered a valuable ally of the British Empire, although in public they would declare him a turncoat and traitor.
He keeps his past a secret, although everyone knows he is "publicly" an enemy of the British empire, although very few know the real reasons for this. he keeps his past locked away inside him, but is high-spirited when it comes to talking about the present or whatever the future holds.
Lexia Stone:
Occupation- Crew Member (on the Riptide)
Age- 20yrs Old
Country- Polish
Biography:
Raised by a family escaping to england from the law, Lexia learned to stay alive on the streets of the undercity in New London. The whereabouts of her parents are unknown, and her motive is to find them. Gifford 1st met her in the Undercity trying to fend off a trio of drunkards who would have had their way with her if Giff hadn't stepped in, and after seeing how handy she was in a fight, he offered her a place on board the Riptide, giving her a greater oportunity to find her parents.
Robyn Wraithwite:
Occupation- Highborn/Crew Member (on the Riptide)
Age- 18yrs Old
Country- English
Biography:
The Wraithwite family is a name to be feared, even among the other Highborns (Upper class families in English society). They are the descendants of the famous Dread-Pirate Garess Wraithwite, and are still beleived to have one hand in piracy and the other in government. Robyn has always dreamed of flying, and when she finally comes of age, she leaves to travel the world, her father paying Gifford Handsomly for the protection he can give his daughter. Despite being spoilt, she turns out to be useful when she deters a pirate raid on the ship simply by showing her family crest. After a while, she begins to become more like the crew, and eventually, when she returns home, she persuades her father to let her stay with Giff and the Riptide, becoming a permanent crew member.
Autumn Oakley
Occupation- Explorer
Age- 20
Country- English
Biography:
Autumn is an Explorer by trade, gathering riches from the tombs of lost civilisations and from the ruins of ancient kingdoms. She sells what she finds on to museums, the Highborns, or, if she can't find a buyer legally, the black market. she isn't afraid to get her hands dirty, and even joins up with Giffords crew breifly while searching for a relic of the mayan kingdoms. she finds herself drawn to Gifford, and the way he keeps his past a mystery, despite being so open and high-spirited when talking about the present or the future. This feeling of attraction grows steadily until she realises she's become infatuated with Gifford, eventually becoming a permanent addition to those on the Riptide in the hope that she has truly found her kindred spirit. she has a romantic heart, but a passion for adventure and the unexplored "deep places" of the world.
Kruger & Loquehart:
Occupation- Sky Pirates
Age- 26yrs Old
Country- American and African-American
Biography:
Kruger and Loquehart are twins, but only in that they were born on the same day. they aren't actually related, but the American and African-American consider each to be their brother. Raised in slavery, eventually breaking free and becoming sky pirates. Kruger is a White Male, and built like a Brick Outhouse, whereas Loquehart is a Black Male, with a leaner, more athletic build. What Kruger lacks in Brains, Loquehart makes up for, and vice-versa with Strength.
Loquehart is a sharpshot with a variety of small arms and rifles, wheread Kruger prefers his three-barrelled Blunderbuss, custom made for him by Loquehart. no-one knows the surname of either pirate, and they are great freinds with Gifford. the trio have gotten eachother out of numerous scraps over the years.
Lady Victoria; Queen of the Sky Pirates:
Occupation- Queen of England/Leader of the Sky Pirates
Age- Unknown
Country- English
Biography:
Lady Victoria, Queen of the British Empire, is infamous not just for being the queen of england, but also for being rumoured to be the "Queen of the Sky Pirates". either that, or she has an evil twin.
Over time, Gifford begins to peice together the mystery Behind Victoria, and will eventually be led to unmasking her as the tyrant she really is, however, will he choose to publicly announce it, despite the huge ammounts of good she has done in Uniting Europe together under the British Empire?

so, what do you guys think? if anyone wants me to put a character into the books, then can you fill it out like this: Quote: Gaia Username: (should be obvious, haha) Name: (the name of your character) Occupation: (what do they do?) Age: (the age of your character) Country: (which country are they from?) Appearance: (describe the appearence, or use an image) Biography: (past experiences? relationships? When he was sent into the field to recover a special device to improve the looted technology they had obtained from trading and stealing, a explosion went off causing him to lose his left arm to a shard of metal.It was replaced eventually by a brass replacement which is uncomfortable to most to see. Many of his comrades saw him as a curse due to loosing what they wanted to use as a weapon.He nopw wanders the plains and is hired time to time to work as a engineer and mechanic. He still prefers to use his title of birth as a Forge Shaman.

hmm, some details will need to be changed, since this is based mostly on the existing time period, so there would be no such thing as a "Forge Shaman" or the "fetish" thing you described...
ill keep the character in mind, but i probably also should have mentioned, no weird powers. they need to be "normal" people... those you might find in a Law Enforcement, Sky Pirate Crew or Explorers Guild maybe.

fire - link hmm, some details will need to be changed, since this is based mostly on the existing time period, so there would be no such thing as a "Forge Shaman" or the "fetish" thing you described... ill keep the character in mind, but i probably also should have mentioned, no weird powers. they need to be "normal" people... those you might find in a Law Enforcement, Sky Pirate Crew or Explorers Guild maybe. Forge Shaman is pretty much the term for a steam mechanic of tribal decent I use for several characters of mine..and the fetish can be switched out to a hatchet or spear. He fits perfectly as a mechanic or explorer/archeologist group's guide. And their are no weird powers to it really, just a love for machines and a few prayers that do nothing so he is pretty normal. Just a outcast dog soldier who's making his way in the world. But thanks to keep in mind, do what you want with Lobo!

Country: The United States Of America (Detroit is her home town.)
Appearance: Of average height and weight, Iris has a simple, yet charming face. Eyes of blue and hair of ash, she likes to wear high fashion, even whilst in the skies.
Biography: An American who immigrated to England under the request of her mentor and lover, Dr. Rowley was the chief medical officers aboard the HMS Anoura while it was still under English rule. After a mutiny, it was decided that Iris should take up the duties as captain.
Now as a sky pirate, Iris and her salty crew plunder the skies in search of wealth and fame.
Or so everyone thinks. Her true motives are to search the globe and find her lover, who has absconded with her two infant children.
(You're welcome to use her however you can. She has her own story, but I'm kind of a whore for my own characters. xp )

She has her own story, but I'm kind of a whore for my own characters. xp ) that is a really well thought out character. definatly one i'll consider putting in. that said though, saying she was a Doctor and Captain in the occupation bit, then springing "Now as a sky pirate" threw me a bit! xd
