Uck, what a horrid day. Gabriel had been stuck cleaning up after the beasts today. She didn't mind the animals themselves-- they were rather nice-- but their dung! It was just so smelly and gross! And now she smelled like it too! She hated stable duty with a passion, and it was with much eagerness that she rushed off the the bathing pool after she had finished her chores.

There's not enough sand on all of Pern to get rid of this stench, the brown-haired teen thought bitterly to herself as she disrobed and stepped into the water. Grabbing up a handful of sand, she started scrubbing away at her hands and arms. This girl was on a mission.

Farellen was disgusted, he didnt mind beasts but this.... this was ridiculous, he'd been shoved into a dung pile by some of the bigger lads for commenting that their tunics were wonky, and he'd tried to straighten it out for them, that... hadn't gone down well, and here he stood, head to toe in muck, at least they're my work clothes he thought stripping off, he hadn't quite noticed the girl in the bathing pool until he was halfway into it himself, "oh hello" he said brightly to her "sorry i'm Farellen, i seem to remember your face from somewhere, but i dont recall your name" he said, the words slipping easily off his tongue

The teen had to roll her eyes as Farellen introduced himself. "It's Gabriel, you dingus," she replied, sending a splash of water his way. "Shards, is you memory really that poor? We've had this conversation at least a hundred times already. Ick, looks like you got worse off in stable duty than I did." Her face scrunched in disgust at the sight of the fecal matter covering him. "Grab some sand and start scrubbing, will ya? That's gunna take a while to get clean." She continued her own cleaning as she spoke, hardly pausing in her mission to get clean save for the one splash she had sent his way a moment ago.

"Really? a hundred times?" laughed Farellen, "then you'll know that yours is a pretty name" he said chuckling as she splashed him, "thanks, saves me dunking." He grabbed a handful of sand and started scrubbing at his hair, the worst affected of himself now he'd stripped. "I guess that the others hadn't shared my opinion" he said with a wry smile, he stole glances at her as they washed, hoping she didn't notice too much. after a while he'd gotten his hair about as clean as it was going to get, the highlights shining wet in the sun "at least it wont take long to get us dry" he said, scrubbing at his body now that he'd fixed his hair. He always did it in order from head to toe, hair, then torso, then down his legs and finishing with his feet, he NEVER washed anything before its order in his mind.

Gabriel's cleansing had a semblance of order to it as well, but it was more along the lines of 'wash anything in sight' first before moving on to the rest. She missed the glances that Farellen was aiming her way, but even if she had noticed she probably wouldn't have thought that much of it. After doing her hair, Gabriel starting to do another quick once over on her body- just in case. You couldn't be too thorough when it came to fecal smell. "Getting dry won't be an issue, no, but I don't suppose you brought any extra clothes to change into?" she asked semi-casually. She had only just now realized that in her haste to get clean she had neglected to stop and grab some fresh clothes-- and there was no way on the Red Star that she was going to be dressing back in her tunic given it's current state.

"Oh screw it, I'll just wash those too," she muttered to herself, stepping back out briefly to grab her clothes before re-entering the bath. The dark-haired brunette started scrubbing again almost immediately. "Shards, of all the chores to give us today, why stable duty?" she complained, brows furrowed in a mix of annoyance and disgust. "Isn't that what the beast apprentices and such are for? I'd rather be stuck with numbweed duty any day."

Farellen grinned, and pointed to the bag he'd brought with him "i always remember a spare set of clothes, though washing them if a good idea" he said grabbing his own stinky, filthy garments, dunking them in the water, scrubbing them with sweetsand.

"I guess it's because we'll have to clean up after our dragons when we Impress, and they'll leave alot more mess than this" he said grinning, his teeth white against his tanned skin, "numbweed stench clings for longer that beast dung" he said, his smile fading briefly.

"Dragons are different though. I wouldn't mind tending to my own..." Gabriel replied, a thoughtful, longing expression briefly crossing her face. That was quickly replaced however as she continued to scrub her clothes. "And true, numbweed stench is rather awful as well, but at least the numbweed itself is rather useful." Hazel eyes glanced over at the boy briefly. "How did you get so covered in dung anyway? Decide to go for a roll in the hay and not look first?"

Farellen nodded, the same look he'd seen in nearly every Candidate when Dragons were mentioned was plain on Gabriel's face, as on his own. "yes, it may be foul but we'd lose so many in threadfall without it to numb the pain of the dragons and people" he said quietly.

He shuddered when she asked how he'd gotten so flithy "you mean you didnt see? i would have thought every Weyrbrat knew" thinking back to that moment, he'd only tried to straighten the others jerkin, that was all.

Gabriel blinked a moment before realization dawned on her. "Ooooh, that was you?" She tried to keep from laughing, but a small giggle still slipped through. "Sorry, didn't recognize you from where I was at the time. Sheesh, what'd you do to piss those guys off so much?" The young teen lifted her clothes out of the water briefly to give them a once over. They appeared clean, but-- she took a quick sniff-- their smell said otherwise. With a resigned sigh she dunked the clothes back under and continued scrubbing. It may be a lost cause in trying to save them from the stench, but by golly she was certainly going to try.

Farellen grimmaced, "yeah, that was me" he closed his eyes briefly as he scrubbed his clothes. "i....the lads jerkins were lopsided, i only tried to straighten them out for them, i guess they didnt approve" again he gave a little grimace, then brought his clothes to the surface, "ugh, they're still terrible, i dont think this is going to wash you you know, we might just have to earn some marks for new clothes" he commented

Gabriel rolled her eyes again. "You tried to straighten out their clothes for them? Seriously?" She shook her head. "Neat freak. And I'm not giving up on these clothes yet! Worst case scenario they can at least be set aside for the next time we get stuck doing this." There was no sense in getting rid of perfectly good clothes if it could be helped.

Farellen frowned "but they're stained, all over, and there's bound to be rips or something, you're really going to wear Stained clothes?!" he replied to her, surprise evident on his face, he shuddered a little at the thought, but didn't say anything more, remembering the treatment just a short while ago, for doing exactly what was going through his mind right now. Instead he shrugged and went back to attempting to get the stains out of his own garments, furiously scrubbing the worst bits with sweetsand.

"Mine's not stained!" Gabriel replied, holding her clothes above the water proudly to display her scrubbing work. "I'm not the one who was shoved into the dung, remember? I'm just trying to get out the scent from having been in the stable for so long. And even if it was stained, wouldn't that only make it a better outfit for working in? Then you wouldn't have to worry about messing it up as you would you with your nice clothes."

Farellen gaped "i have nice clothes, one set for working another for well.. not working, but i cant wear Stained! clothes! you gotta be joking" he said in all seriousness, still trying to scrub the stains out, he really didn't want to spend what little marks he's earned on new work clothes.

"Well, to each their own. If you get shoved into something nasty again in the future after buying a new shirt though don't say I didn't warn ya." Gabriel lifted her clothes from the water again to sniff and, finally satisfied, began to dress there in the pool. She and her clothes both were already soaked as it was, so it didn't particularly matter whether she dressed there or waited till she was out first. "Having any luck with your scrubbing?"
