Who: Lucia and Cordelia (and Ebony?)
When: Midday – around 2 pm
Where: The same beach as the Lab Summer Beach Blowout
Weather: unusually hot for Spring with a mostly clear sky

The Kitten sat on the picnic table facing away from both the beautiful blue ocean with its rolling waves and the stretching white sands, warm from the unusually hot Spring sun. Lucia was facing the parking lot, looking for her friend – or former friend maybe – Delia. Ebony had been really great in trying to help clear the air between them. She obviously received the letter—and when Lucia had called, she arranged everything for this get-together.

The frei's insides were churning. It was to be her first time seeing her friend since she had tried to burn her face off. The wrapped present on the table was important to her, but trite compared to the apology she had to make.

She still hadn't completely forgiven herself –and if Zul was right that would mean this wouldn't work. But if Delia could forgive her, it would be one step in the right direction. The frei looked up at the sky. The sun was beaming down on her head and it made her feel more comfortable, somehow, with what was to happen.

Lucia looked mostly better. There were a few light scars on her body, and a few red scars that she hid with accessories, but her body was not deformed from its 6 week recovery. She had dark circles under her eyes from waking up too early today. 1:00 was very early for the kitten lately. She had been getting up at 6 pm every day. But Ebony suggested midday today because it was supposed to be very nice out. So Lucia hadn't argued.

The kitten's ears were back as she had spent time trying to figure out her appearance for today. In the end she went with her usual look with one exception: her hair was back in a single pony tail – almost mimicking Delia's typical hair style with the addition of some teased bouncy bangs and protruding white ears.

The box next to her was pretty large – a boot shoebox – and was wrapped in a dark green shimmery paper with a silver bow on top. The gift was a combination purchase and hand-made adjustment. Lucia hoped that Delia would like the things in there. But she didn't know. The kitten bit her lip and chewed on it slightly as her nerves rose.

"We're here." Ebony stated obviously as she slide the small vehicle smoothly into an open spot and switch the engine off. She looked to her ward then, a touch of concern swimming on the surface of those silver orbs. Cordelia had been extremely quiet all day and it was starting to worry her. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to force the basilisk into a corner like this? After all, the girl had made it very clear earlier that she wasn't exactly Lucia's number one fan anymore. "Cordelia?"

She'd heard her woman, heard every little thing she'd uttered since they left the house and made their way to the beach in this tiny tin can. And it wasn't that she was purposely trying to ignore her, but rather she was so focused on listening that she'd forgotten to reply. Or rather, Cordelia didn't feel the need to say anything. Until now that is.

The automatic response to hearing her name brought the serpent Frei eye to eye with her guardian. Face utterly composed and calm, she simply replied, "Yes Ebby?"

Frowning, the British woman unbuckled and got out of the car. "I'm going to meet Lucia now. I would hope you'd join me, but...well that's really up to you. I won't make you, yet I really wish you'd at least hear her out." She didn't wait for a response and shut the driver's side door quietly before making her way down to the beach.

Again, Cordelia reacted immediately and followed suit, trailing after her woman silently. As they moved along, the floating girl's head tilted from side to side at the many interesting sights and sounds. For the beach, the day was just beginning as people began to pour in from all over Gaia, wanting nothing more than to bask in this beautiful day.

"Lucia!" the purple haired female belted out once she'd caught sight of the familiar Raevan and even dared a wave in her direction. Cordelia motioned to view her former friend, yet remained detached as she'd been for most of the day.

Lucia felt her chest tighten and an unease settle in her half body as she saw Ebony drive up to the sand. She fidgeted, her hand moving from one spot to another, her body moving up floating off the table, sitting on the seat, slouching near the ground. She didn’t know what to do with herself. The entire wait she had been nibbling slightly on her lower lip, which was now mostly devoid of lip-gloss.

They were talking, she saw through the window, as she finally settled her body closer to the ground. Her fingers ran through her hair and then one hand stopped to play with the ends, twisting and turning them as she nibbled on her bottom lip. The breath caught in the Kitten’s chest as Ebony got out of the car before Delia. Oh God she hates me, the frei thought tossing her black hair over her shoulder and twisting her ribbon around her hand.

Lucia watched the Snake float out from the car, but the blank look on her friend’s face did little to ease her nerves. The frei was tinking the prong of her belt buckle back and forth constantly at a steady pace, only revving her emotions up further.

Ebony yelled out to her and waved, but Delia hardly acknowleged her. Lucia’s heart suck and she breathed in a deep breath and let it out before gingerly waving back to Ebs and settling on the picnic table’s bench. She was nibbling at her lip still. The prong tinked incessantly to the left of her head as she used her other hand to do everything. Her eyes cast downwards, towards the gift she had so carefully made and wrapped. For her it seemed sealed: Delia would never be her friend again. And she couldn’t blame the snake.

"Lucia..." Ebony seemed to breathe in a relieved tone. Truly the woman had been thinking of the kitten and her blonde guardian for sometime now, even when there really wasn't anything she could do since she hadn't a clue what had happened or where they were. With a tight smile, knowing full well that everything wasn't yet all well, "It's so good to see you dear. I hope you're well as is Yuurei?" Though she didn't exactly ask, the Brit's body language pretty much showed she was looking for any sign of the busty woman.

Meanwhile, Cordelia's black head tilted ever so slight at the metal object, the tiny clink sounding so loud in her ears, she watched as Lucia continued to flick it. She could feel a heaviness starting to weigh her down again as if she might sleep, yet the basilisk Raevan didn't so much as bat an eye. Delia was on the verge of remembering something when Ebony's hand reached out and tugged the girl closer.

As if answering a question that no one had asked, Delia softly uttered, "Yessss..." Her serpent's tongue drawing out the 's' longer than she normally would have or was necessary.

The kitten sighed softly as Ebony spoke to her. ”Hi Ebony,” she said, her eyes on the table. ”I’m doing better. Zul and Alex have been helping me. Yuu’s not here. She’s in Australia with her brother getting better, but she mentioned coming home pretty soon last time I talked to her. I think she’s coming home next week or so, with her brother.” The violet eyes flicked up to Delia, who was looking not at, but almost past her. She continued to tink the metal prong steadily. She waited until they settled down

”I’m so sorry, Delia,” the frei blurted out. She didn’t say hello. She just apologized. She wanted to get it over with. She wanted everything to be okay again. Dropping her ribbon’s buckle both of her hands reached out to the box she had put together for her friend of things she made and things she purchased. She pushed it to her friend, not wanting to buy a renewed friendship, but more just break the ice.

Lucia looked at Ebs and decided to explain. She kept her attention on her friend’s guardian, but hoped that Delia would listen too. ”I’m sorry, Ebs. I have this problem, I guess, where I can get possessed easily. When I attacked Delia I was being completely controlled by that serial killer—Brian Sparks. It wasn’t me and-and I couldn’t do anything to stop it. He made me do it. I hated myself for a while, but I didn’t do it. I tried to stop him. I just couldn’t…” the frei trailed off as her breath caught in her throat and she felt very tired. Lucia slumped down as her hair fell in her face and her shoulders fell forward. She wished she hadn’t arranged this. Better to let Delia continue to hate her then deal with the stress. But she felt bad. And she missed her friend.

"Sssssorry..." This could have been seen as mocking, but in reality the basilisk had yet to really learn that conversational tactic. What she did was tilt her head back and forth as if mulling over the apology and its meaning, like some great truth would be revealed if she did.

When the gift was abruptly presented to her, the younger Frei gave it the same consideration as her friend's apology. Yet with this she added something more by physically inspecting it as well, slender digits sliding over its smooth surface and finally tugging at the shiny bow once, but giving no indications of actually opening it.

"It's pretty." she said plainly and truthfully. Had Cordelia been in her right mind, she would have been pretty gleeful for having a gift (even one from what she considered an enemy) and wrapped so thoughtfully in her favorite color too.

Ebony nodded and listened patiently to Lucia's rushed run through of what had happened to her previously. Placing a firm hand on the girl's shoulder, "Think nothing of it now dear. What's done is done and now it's past. What matters is that everyone got out of it alive, you especially. I'm sorry for your terrible ordeal, but glad to have you back to normal. As I'm sure..." The woman gave her own dark ward a curious glance, brow arched high at the girl's unusual mannerisms and lack of emotion. It was so unlike her, yet perhaps she was still very upset about the whole incident between her and Lucia. "As I'm sure Cordelia is. Right Cordelia?"

Something seemed to stir in that mirrored gaze and Delia instantly responded. "Yes, of course, glad to have you back." She even managed a small smile as if remembering something very pleasant.

Lucia felt like she’d been stabbed when Delia mocked her apology, but of course didn’t continue. The frei just bit her lip and continued. Delia didn’t even open her gift that she had worked so hard on. Was the “pretty” comment sarcastic? She didn’t even know what was in it. Lucia’s heart fell.

The kitten sighed again softly after she finished her explanation. When Ebony touched her shoulder, she was surprised. She would have jumped if she had the energy, but just thinking back to what happened exhausted her. At the British woman’s words, Lucia didn’t say anything. Zul wasn’t here to support her, so Ebony would have to do. She slipped her arms lithely around the woman’s waist in a hug, just enjoying having the side of her face and her open ear pressed against the woman’s chest. Though it wasn’t as flat a surface as Zul’s, it worked.

She slowly released Delia’s guardian and said simply, ”Thank you.” Lucia didn’t know if there was something wrong with Delia, if she was forced into this, or she really meant what she said. She wasn’t acting like herself – not that Lucia could blame her for her distance.

The kitten tried to push it aside and not worry about it. Maybe if she acted normal towards Delia, the blankness would go away and their relationship could start to return to normal.

She grinned at her friend. ”You should open your present. I worked really hard on your stuff. I—“ she paused and let out another sigh, almost a sigh of relief. ”I really missed you Delia. And I can’t tell you how sorry I am. But open your present!” There was a slight edge of excitement in her voice. Maybe her friend would be her friend again.

A surprised gasp and some stiffness was what awaited Lucia on first contact with the hug. Ebony still wasn't use nor prepared when others did that to her, but thanks to her own overly affectionate ward, she was starting to get use to it. Dare we say, even liking it?

Slowly, the woman wrapped her own arms around the other dark Frei and gave a light squeeze. She could just sense the utter need for reassurance, for comfort in that one weak moment from Lucia, and it nearly broke Ebony's heart. The Brit knew that Delia's feelings of mistrust and hurt were justified, but Lucia honestly seemed to be better now and was most clearly sorry for what she'd done. Hopefully the snake would see this and stop being aloof.

"You're welcome Lucia." she murmured softly into the girl's ear before letting her go.

Again, if Cordelia had been acting like herself, such an act as the cat hugging her guardian then would have been most unacceptable. But as it was, the girl merely watched in silence, finding no harm of the simple action for the moment. Things might have changed for the blissed out Raevan had Lucia decided to do something to hurt Ebony, but this was not the case and thus Delia remained as she was.

Her eyes, of which looked so much more serpentine in this hyper-aware state, trailed over to the girl and the present once more. Curiosity clearly reflected in those silver orbs, Cordelia listened attentively to what the other girl had to say. Yet at the suggestion of opening the gift, the smokey girl quickly complied, effectively ripping the package open wide and removing the items carefully.

The hug being returned from Ebony was comforting, but not as much as Delia’s reaction to her urgent desire to see her friend get the gifts. She floated over next to her friend as she pulled out each item, so she could give a play-by-play of where she bought, what she made, what she modded just to suit the Snake’s tastes.

She knew the kind of gifts that Delia liked from New Year’s Eve and her impromptu sleepover. But while the accessories her friend had displayed were pretty enough, they didn’t remind her of the frei to say the least. Delia was classy, modern, and edgy. A contradictory, maybe, but that’s what Lucia thought of.

The first thing Delia pulled out was a black charm bracelet with dangling silver charms. The charms were hand-picked by the frei: spheres, squiggly snakes, and swirls of the light metal. ”I got all of that at a really cool shop not far from Zul’s house. But I picked out all of the charms.”

She smiled watching Delia move onto the next item. ”Oh! This one I bought, but completely modified for your wings and coolness. “ The soft cotton t-shirt was black and gray, with the colors blending around each other, it almost resembled a dark smoky color. On the front was a shiny black snake silhouette appliqué that the Kitten had placed strategically. There were slashes in the material, so show some skin, along the arms, back (also to stick her wings through) and across the chest to show just enough cleavage.

The next item Lucia had hand-sewn and everything. A black canvas purse with snakes and gray splashes of color was decorated with green safety pins and green zippers. It had taken a few tries to make the bag right, but decorating it had been fun and easy. Hand painted and accessorized, the bag looked hot. ”I made it from scratch,” she said quietly. This she had put a LOT of effort into and she wanted Delia to like it so badly. The inside was even lined with a bright green silk. Please let her like it, she thought.

Silver watched silver dance in the sun as Delia dangled the charm bracelet around, looking at it from almost every angle. "Zul..." she said with a soft fondness. That was right, she remember that Rivener had mentioned that Lucia had been spending a lot of time with the demon lately. She remembered how angry she'd been (still was), but none of that displayed now as she extended the jewelry carefully to her guardian for safe keeping.

Next was the trendy, yet somewhat risque shirt Lucia had modified for the other Frei. At the sight of it, Ebony's eyes widened considerably, yet refrained from snatching the thing out of the youth's hands. It was hard, but she didn't want to hurt Lucia's feelings especially with knowing how hurt she already was. Yet...her mind was already thinking of good places to hide the shirt until she deemed Cordelia old enough to wear it. Which was never of course. Delia, on the other hand, simply traced her fingers smoothly across the black snake splattered across it. She liked it very much, smiling sweet before handing it too to Ebby before the poor woman busted an eye vein from all that twitching it was doing.

And last, but not least, the coup de grace. The basilisk's smile soon pulled into a larger grin, her eyes almost glittering with the same level of brilliance it normally did when she was extremely pleased. Hugging the bag in a tight hug as if very protective of it suddenly, "Green...I love green...thank you..." There was another moment of silence that seemed to stretch for eternity. Her mind could be seen quickly thinking, calculating something. Finally her dark lips moved again, "You know that this only softens the blow you dealt."

"CORDELIA!" Ebony gasped, entirely shocked at what her ward was saying. She was fit to continue on with more, but was stopped by her Raevan's almost sinister glare and strong lifted hand that pleaded for her silence. This was a side of Delia the woman hadn't seen until now. What had gotten into the smokey girl?

Turning back to the kitten, "I will accept your gestures of apology, but I will not, cannot accept the apology itself because I cannot easily forgive. What you did was unacceptable Lucia, even if it was outside yourself to control." Her hands roamed gently over the bag once more. "By your hands destroyed, by your hands rebuilt. Let us rebuild."

And with that, the dark serpent's enlightened spiel ended, her looking more worn from it than could have been anticipated. Ebony was speechless of course and could do nothing more than look back and forth between the girls, mouth slightly agape. Where the HELL did that all come from?

Lucia’s breath caught in her throat as she was scolded by the younger frei. It— It—wasn’t fair! She didn’t do it! She didn’t want to hurt Delia! She panicked. She wanted to die. She expected to be killed. Because she thought she had hurt Delia. Lucia hadn’t expected to be welcomed back with open arms, but she didn’t hurt her. She didn’t want to…It just wasn’t fair at all.

The Kitten’s head slowly fell to her chest and her face adapted a pained look. Her shoulders hunched forward as she instinctually protected her body. She slowly wrapped her ribbon around her arm again, tinking the buckle again, only below the table.

With her long ears flat back against her head, Lucia blinked a few times and stared at the table. ”Look Delia. I didn’t want to…I’m sorry.”

Her eyes, slightly blurred by wet tears, turned to Ebony. ”I think I should go. I think we need some time…” It wasn’t fair.

She closed her eyes and floated up. ”Enjoy your things…”

"No Lucia, wait!" the British woman quickly said, grabbing the girl's wrist gently to keep her there with them. "Please, just...just wait a moment okay?" With that she let the Frei go and hoped she would wait.

Turning stormy eyes onto her own ward, Ebony carefully placed her hands on the youth's shoulders, giving them a little shake. "Cordelia, you NEED to understand and apologize for being...for being..." Her first thought was 'for being so cold', but then thought twice about saying that. No doubt Cordelia would take it far too literally as she had to be cold being so close to the cool sea. And getting side-tracked now wouldn't do any good. "For being rude and inconsiderate. Lucia is trying to apologize the best she can. You may not be able to forgive her, but you CAN accept her apology. You must!"

With the jarring, Delia felt herself waking just a tad, yet not enough to completely snap her out of her trance. Smoke black locks shook with her head. No, it was they who misunderstood. She knew she couldn't forgive the kitten for what she'd done, but she was willing to move beyond it, to rebuild their broken relationship. "I forgive nothing, but I accept everything Lucia places before me now." Couldn't they understand that? Or was she speaking in tongues again?

When Ebony’s warm fingers wrapped around her wrist she stopped moving. Even when her fingers released her wrist, Lucia floated still just staring at the direction she had been facing: down the beach. Lucia wanted Delia to understand, but she didn’t know how much work it would really entail. She had spent months laboring over it. Zul said that she would need to forgive herself before everyone else would forgive her. He said it might take others time too.

But it wasn’t fair.

Though what Ebs said wasn’t right. ”No – “ she said suddenly. ”You don’t have to accept it. You don’t have to forgive. And you don’t have to apologize.” Her liquid eyes looked at Ebony, almost apologetically themselves. ”I’m the one who is sorry. You can’t expect her to just get over it. It’s not like I don’t understand that these are things and what happened was emotional.

“It takes time to heal wounds. It scabs. It’s sore and raw. Eventually it heals. Bad wounds leave a scar.”
The frei absentmindedly touched the scar that remained on her arm from Zul’s war with Brian. The Kitten looked down at the warm sand sadly.

She floated down slightly and traced her fingers through the sand leaving small pathways in the tan granules. She didn’t want to talk any more. She was tired and just wanted to go back to bed now. She wished she’d brought Zul along. She wished she’d just mailed Delia an apology not and let it rest at that.
PostPosted: Sat May 29, 2010 4:27 pm

The woman opened her mouth, facials pulled into a defiant look, yet nothing came. Eventually her tan features smoothed out as her mouth closed, but a frown remained etched in her brow. She couldn't claim to understand this process in a friendship as Ebony had never been exactly close enough to anyone (aside from her late father) to have to get to an apology stage. Perhaps her want and need for having others in her life that she could care for and that could care for her is what had driven her to desperately cling to the feline then. She didn't want Cordelia turning out like her, un-bendable and alone.

Nodding her purple head at Lucia, the Brit decided to be quiet and keep out of it. This wasn't her battle to fight. The girls would have to find common ground again on their own, as much as she hated it.

Despite the sun, the sand and Delia's black attire, the ocean's breeze was strong and keeping things under one hundred degrees on the beach today. Thus fatigue was waning on the cooling snake as well, but it was hard to even try to fall asleep when your subconscious was so hyped up, thoughts buzzing about like little bees.

A tired sigh left her lips, "I'm hungry..." An odd thing to say at a time like this, but it was true nonetheless. With a tiny smile, the younger girl floated down and took Lucia's hand in her own. Tugging her along back towards Ebby's car without really asking if she wanted to, "Come on, it's too cold here. You'll come home with us. I'll show you my violin."

Lucia’s face was a masque of surprise as the frei took her hand and led her to Ebony’s car.

As she climbed in the back seat, her eyes locked on the back of Ebony’s head, driving them towards her home in Gambino. She would have to call Alex to tell her where she was, but Lucia wouldn’t mind seeing more of Delia. They needed to get over things. It would take time, she knew.

But this was a start.

The kitten was quiet most of the way to the home, preferring to let Ebony and Delia talk. When any chat faded to silence, Lucia stared out the window as her Snake’s strength faded and she fell into a light sleep. When they get there, Lucia reasoned, she’d figure it all out. For now, this was okay.
